Chapter 33: Story Telling
Kensi felt awful. Her head felt really swelled and she felt like throwing up. She ran to the bathroom as a sudden wave of nausea hit her. Blankets were tossed aside like day old takeout and doors slammed open awakening her very concerned fiancé.
"Kensi?" He asked groggily just as last nights dinner filled the toilet.
"No. Stay back." She said sickly before throwing up again. This time Deeks ran into the bathroom ignoring her words and grabbed her hair and rubbed her back. "I told you not to come in here." She said, embarrassed and feeling awful.
"Just because we haven't said 'I do' yet doesn't mean I'm not going to fulfill the vows early. In sickness and in health Kensi."
She didn't have time to respond as another wave hit and she emptied her stomach once more. Deeks hated seeing her like this. He yawned and looked over at the clock, 4:47am. He made it his mission to make her as comfortable as possible and be her nurse for the day. After all, she'd been his nurse for the past five weeks without complaining.
"I think I'm done." She said out of breath and feeling faint and too hot. Deeks pulled her up and let her rest against the sink.
"What's going on Princess? Tell me so I can help." He said with concerned eyes.
"Overheating." She said breathlessly as the room around her spun. She leaned against the counter as Deeks grabbed a washcloth and wet it with cold water. He rung it out and pressed it to her forehead carefully.
"Better." Kensi said with a sigh. Deeks got her toothbrush ready, figuring she'd want to get the gross aftertaste out of her mouth. He was right. "Thank you." She said. She brushed with one hand and held the cloth with the other. When she finished in the bathroom, Deeks guided her to the bed and propped her head up so it was elevated. He wet the cloth again but left some water on it so it dripped down to cool off her neck, face, and chest. As soon as she was comfortable, Deeks set out to find pepto bismol and some ginger ale and saltine crackers. He got a trashcan set up beside her bed and slowly fed her the medicine and soda.
"Is that better?"
"Mmmm. Mmhmm." She replied. "Keep talking." She mumbled.
"Why?" Deeks asked confused and curious.
"It sounds nice and is lulling me to sleep." She replied with closed eyes.
"Oh. In that case, I'll tell you a story." He said with a smile.
"I like stories. "She replied with a smile.
Deeks climbed back into bed beside her and lay on his back staring at the ceiling. "Once upon a time, there was...a boy." Deeks began, a story in mind.
"He was only about nine when his mom took him on the most magical trip he'd ever been on. It was filled with palm trees swaying in the sun, and beautiful white sandy beaches. The ocean waves crashed down upon the shore relentlessly. People were surfing, birds calling, kids laughing. The air was just right. As soon as the boy was unpacked in the cabin he threw on swimming trunks and grabbed his surfboard and raced out to the ocean, anxious to surf with everyone else out on the water. As he paddled out awaiting for his first wave to come he bounced with excitement. He'd been dreaming of this for three years and it was finally here. His first Hawaiian wave was just within his reach. " Deeks became so caught up in the story that he didn't even notice Kensi fall asleep. She was snoring softly with the washcloth still covering her forehead. Deeks kissed her hair and released a sigh. He laid back down and closed his eyes waiting for sleep to return.
