I tried to make this longer than usual and got you nearly 2,000 words to read so yay. I hope you guys like it. Review please :)
Chapter 40: Christmas in Dubai
It was awkward for Kensi, sharing a bed with someone other than Deeks. She tried falling into her role of head over heels in love; but with Callen as her husband it was harder to do. Everything was forced, nothing was natural and after they had to kiss each other to save their cover she wanted to vomit. Not because of Callen but because she felt like she was cheating on Deeks. It felt so wrong it made her sick. She'd spoken to him maybe once in the three days she'd been gone and she knew Sam felt just as miserable. It was a bad situation for everyone, everyone but G. They all had someone back home waiting for them but him. He had no one special to go back to, unless Hetty counted.
She stared ahead at the warehouse they knew the consul general was being held. Both Sam and her wanted to just storm the place so they could return home but knew it would be foolish and they'd only return home in a body bag. They had no knowledge of the inside layout or the routines of the men inside. So far all they had to go on was that the outside was secured very well. Cameras in every corner, guards on a continuous watch switching out only when their backup arrived. Kensi had noticed one flaw that they would have to maximize in order to pull off any attempt to get back their POI without blood shed. Whenever there was a security breach in the perimeter the guards at the front abandoned their position and consequently left the front open and unguarded, available to breach.
All they had managed to accomplish in the time they'd been in Dubai was scoping out the outside of the compound. So far no one had come up with any ideas as to how to draw them out or how to enter without someone getting hurt.
There was a light rap on her window that startled her but she was quickly disarmed upon seeing Sam's somber friendly face. She forced a small smile and rolled down the window. "Hey Sam."
"Hey, so we've got something."
"Will it get us home soon?" She asked perking up. She could tell the answer was no by the look of disappointment in Sam's eye.
"G was thinking that he could work his way in and be able to get eyes on the inside so we can finally see what we're up against."
"What would his cover be?" She asked.
"He'll be the bomb maker. We just have to have Deeks track down who their current explosives man is, then we take him out and Callen replaces him."
"But we've already been seen, won't they just shoot him once they realize that he was the guy they found at the back of their compound?" Kensi asked not seeing how this option was any better than the others they'd manufactured.
"Have a little faith Kensi. G would be able to make it work."
"But why wouldn't you just do it? You know the language just as well as Callen and you haven't been seen by them."
"Yes but, he's not letting me do it on account of Michelle and my kids and it being Christmas."
"Oh." Kensi said a little surprised by the answer.
"We're all going to go back to the hotel now so we can plan it out and phone Ops. It is Christmas after all." He said with a sad underlying tone.
"Yeah." Kensi responded matching his dismal tone. "Merry Christmas Sam."
"Merry Christmas Kensi."
"I'm sorry you're missing Christmas again." She apologized knowing she had no control over it but feeling bad anyways.
"Yeah you too. I know how you're feeling. Michelle and I were apart our first Christmas too. It sucks but you guys are solid and you know just how crazy he is about you. Just think about all the happy memories when you start to feel down, okay?" Kensi nodded and gave a small smile.
"Thanks Sam." He returned the small smile and walked back to the other car where Callen was waiting. Kensi took a deep breath and started the key. She took off hoping to get back to the suite before Sam and Callen so she could try to call Deeks.

Deeks was punching the bag with fervor and tunnel vision when his phone resounded Kensi's ringtone of Neon Trees', "Everybody Talks". The anger that had once been coursing through his veins drained. He lost focus, fumbling for his phone that he lost sight of the bag and it swung square into his chest and knocked the air out of his lungs and sent his phone sliding across the floor. As it went to its final verse Deeks scrambled for the phone and answered just in the nick of time.
"Hello!" He shouted hoarsely.
"Are you okay?" Kensi asked concerned.
Deeks cleared his throat and replied, "Uh yeah, just working with the punching bag."
"Oh. Well, Merry Christmas Marty. I miss you."
"I miss you too Princess. And Merry Christmas to you as well. I promise we'll have our own Christmas as soon as you get back. We'll get away to Lake Tahoe, go skiing, open presents, plan our wedding, enjoy the bed, and we'll watch movies while sipping hot cocoa and eating apple pie." He said painting a picture of a perfect reality, already planning the spontaneous trip out in greater detail within his mind. He could just picture them doing everything he'd listed and it brought a smile to his face.
"That sounds lovely." She responded. Already her heart was beginning to feel home just picturing them together in a suite. "Oh Marty." Kensi said with a deep sigh. The picture left her mind as she looked around and was reminded just how dismal their situation was at the moment. "I wish I was there with you right now."
"Me too." He replied sadly swallowing the emotion that threatened to stream down his face. "So, I uh learned why exactly I'm not with you right now."
"Why?" Kensi asked.
"Because of my kidney. Granger isn't letting me do any undercover work anymore because a drunk driver hit our car and impaled my kidney; and so I'm being penalized because the doctor removed it so I would live to see another day."
"What?!" Kensi cried. "So what if you have one less organ than the average person, that doesn't mean you're suddenly an invalid!" Anger began to cloud Kensi's judgment and she suddenly understood why Deeks was hitting the bag. She wished she had one at the moment. "That bastard is putting me in jeopardy because we're short a man that we can trust in the field! I'll show him what an invalid looks like." Kensi muttered cracking her knuckles ready to fight someone.
"Calm down Sweetie. I know you're upset; I am too but just take a deep breath. You don't need to lose your job by doing the one thing our whole team has dreamed of doing." Deeks said calmly, trying to dis-arm his fiancé before she literally dis-armed someone else. Kensi inhaled deeply and let Marty's reassuring voice calm her. "That's my girl. Better?"
"Yeah." She replied.
"Good. But watching you do that would be so hot." Kensi laughed and Deeks grinned. He always knew how to calm her down even if it involved innuendos.
"You would say something like that." She said with a smile and roll of her eyes.
"Guilty as charged." Deeks grinned.
"So we have an update on the case, the guys should be here any minute but I'll just give you the rundown. We're going to try to get Callen inside the compound as the person who's going to make them bomb so we can finally get some eyes on where the Consul General is being held. We're blind right now because they have something that's stopping our infrared from seeing inside. We need you to track down the bomber they are using and give us as much information on them as possible so we can take them out and give Callen a way in."
"Okay, I can do that. I can start working on getting you that information as soon as we disconnect. The sooner the better. That way we can disappear into the mountains."
"I hear that." She responded with a hum of appreciation and a smile.
"How are you holding up honey?" Deeks asked concerned.
"Don't call me honey. I don't like that one." She reprimanded able to see Deek's grin through the phone. "I'm okay I guess. Callen and I had to kiss so we wouldn't be shot and I've wanted to rip out my insides ever since I did it."
"It's okay Kensi, I forgive you. It's the price we pay and better him than some slime ball."
"But that's the thing. I know it's a part of this job and yet I still feel like I cheated on you."
"No you didn't. Stop beating yourself up Princess. It's all okay. We'll be fine. You love me and not him right?"
"Of course I do!" She exclaimed appalled that he would even ask the question.
"See, and that's why I'm not upset. I know where your heart lies." Deeks placed his hand on his heart in a gesture that he knew she was unable to see but still made him feel all romantic.
"You're me other half Marty. I could never like Callen in any sort of romantic capacity."
Deeks smiled. "I can't be me without you too. We're one now in mind, body, soul and soon to be law." He said calmly, seeming to ease Kensi's mind and alleviate the weight of guilt from her heart.
"Aww. When did you become such a romantic?"
"Always have been, but even more so since I fell in love with you, Beautiful." Kensi's heart fluttered at the sweet words whispered through the phone from the lips she now wanted to hang upon.
The door opened from behind Kensi and she quickly wiped the tear that had fallen.
"That Deeks you're on the phone with?" Sam asked.
"I take it the guys are there now." Deeks stated.
"Yeah." Kensi replied more to Deeks than Sam.
"Well then I'll let you go. We don't need to be teased."
"Tell him Merry Christmas." Callen said throwing his bag on the table.
"Oh Callen said to tell you Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas Callen. Don't kiss my fiancé again." Kensi laughed and relayed the message to Callen who just laughed. "Alright, well, call me again when you get the chance. I love you."
"Love you too. Merry Christmas." She said somberly.
"Merry Christmas Fern." He replied hanging up.
"Deeks is caught up on what's going on. He's going to start looking into the bomber now." Kensi said preferring to skip over their apologies and empty words of condolence and jump right onto common ground. The more she focused on her unfortunate situation the more likely she'd be to cry. She did not want to cry in front of the guys, they were all in sucky situation. They didn't need hormones and tears thrown into the mix.
Sam sensed Kensi's unease and rolled with her line of conversation. "Good. Hopefully he'll find the guy sooner than later. The longer that guy is with them his chance of death increases."
"Agreed. So, who's up for Chinese for Christmas dinner? We can be like Ralphie's family from A Christmas Story." Callen suggested with a grin.
Sam and Kensi smiled, nodded, and verbalized their confirmation of Callen's suggestion. The three went into their rooms to change and freshen up before leaving for their Christmas Dinner scene reenactment.
