So, I did decide to turn it into two chapters, hope you enjoy a double update I guess. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the chapter and thanks to everyone who has stayed with me throughout this story. Anyone who is new, I welcome you and I hope you enjoy this as well. But anyway, let's get back to chapter 23, the title is self explanatory.
Chapter 23: Assassins
I stared at her for what felt like an eternity "no... no, no No, No, NO, NO, NO! You can't May. You cannot be in love with me" I yelled at her
"It's too late for that" she said, taking a step towards me. "Stay away from me!" I shouted at her, taking a step back. But she kept walking towards me "I won't Ash, I will never stop trying". My eyes widened "Pikachu, thunder wave next to her". Pikachu looked up at me in shock "Now Pikachu!"
Pikachu launched a thin bolt of thunder next to May. She stumbled to the left and coughed as the dust reached her. I sprinted past her and threw open the door, sprinting down the hallway and not looking back. I heard her call out from behind me, but I kept on sprinting. I burst through the doors and leaped on Charizard who jolted up in surprise at the new weight on his back.
"Go" I told him, he looked back at me, confusion evident in his eyes. Anger filled my gut "I SAID GO!" I roared at him. He launched himself in the air leaving a surprised Garchomp behind, but he followed. I was breathing heavily, my heart was racing, and I felt like my body was on fire.
I was panicking, I never panicked.
How?
How did three simple words break through to me so much? I grabbed my head with both of my hands. "Idiot" I muttered at myself. I laid myself down on Charizard's back and buried my face in his back, just waiting till we got to the Indigo Plateau. I wasted hours just laying on his back for almost the entire ride , brooding.
But my brooding was cut short, Charizard let out a monstrous roar causing me to look up. A group of seven Skarmory flew at high speeds straight for us and all of them had riders on them.
I stood up and looked at them. They flew in the standard V formation, with the leader at the front. I spotted their leader from a literally a mile away. He rode atop a black Skarmory and at his back. "The Black Arbok" I growled.
The Black Arbok were a group of assassins that were established in Johto as a present from King Alexander of Kanto one hundred forty-three years ago. It was a silent agreement that they'd be allies if war broke out against Unova. They specialized in torture and interrogation and were known for never speaking to anyone and even taking their own lives if captured. But they became infamous through their use of unknown poisons. They often carried crossbows with them and had the tips coated in poison.
Their attire was simple though, they wore lightweight leather armor with steel plates reinforcing vital areas. They were mainly used for single target assassinations, but their most recent use (when the Aura Guardians were involved) was to attack groups of four or less of Aura Guardians. I had never had a run in with them though, until now. The lead shiny Skarmory was a dead giveaway and they were coming for me. They wouldn't show themselves to me if I wasn't their target.
"Charizard, Garchomp, Pikachu! You guys are going to be doing a lot of the heavy lifting here. I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help here" I yelled to them, receiving a nod from each of them. "Now let's kick some ass"
They approached slowly, too slow. I was antsy to win this fight or die. Why postpone either? Soon light emitted from each of the Skarmory and seven hyper beams were launched at us. "Dodge!" I yelled. Charizard dove under the attacks that came his way and Garchomp his own hyper beam at the oncoming ones at him.
He emerged front he resulting smoke without a scratch "No unnecessary risks Garchomp" I yelled towards him. 'Just a little closer' I thought as the approaching Skarmory neared 'Now!'
"Charizard, Garchomp! launch a dragon breath at each other. All my Pokemon lean red a while ago that if I made a command, no matter how insane or stupid, it was better if you executed immediately rather than hesitate to think about it. If you paused for even a moment, you could end up dead. They launched a dragon breath at each other creating a massive smoke cloud that surrounded us.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight... Now
"Garchomp, dragon rush. Charizard, giga impact" I yelled at them "Pikachu, get ready to fire off and thunderbolt and transfer to Garchomp's back. I don't think we'll be able to catch you while attacking" I told him. He nodded
We burst from the smoke, coming face to face with seven Skarmory. Charizard immediately smashed into one, knocking him towards the ground. Garchomp rammed into another and quickly dispatched the rider using dragon claw, but the Skarmory was still in action. I looked down and saw the Skarmory was coming back, its rider still on its back.
I cursed, we barely made a dent, and they wouldn't fall for that again. Time for plan B "Garchomp tear that Skarmory apart. Get ready to pick me up Charizard, fire a flamethrower at the Skarmory you hit" he complied and launched a powerful column of flames at the Skarmory below us. It jerked to the right, but still got hit a little. 'Maybe we did do something' I thought
Wasting no time I dove off Charizard's back, straight for the rider who was recovering from Skarmory's quick movement. I tackled him straight on and pushed the Skarmory with my force. I wrestled with the assassins for a weapon, I kneed him in the ribs causing him to loose forces for a moment. I grabbed one of his knives and plunged it into his neck.
I immediately pulled it out and ran towards the Skarmory's head and dove off the space between its head and wing, but not before dragging the knife through its tough skin while I ran. Charizard was right beside me as I fell and got under me, swooping below me to pick me up. I noticed Pikachu was gone. Looks like he started using thunderbolt.
"Take us back up" I told Charizard. Sure enough Garchomp had ripped the Skarmory he had been attacking apart. Its corpse was slowly falling to the ground. I looked back at my target and saw it barely staying in the air. But there was no way it could attack us so I wasn't worked. My attention was brought back above us as the sky was lit up with the bright flash of Pikachu's thunderbolt.
"Seismic toss the one Garchomp is fighting into another one" I ordered Charizard. He flew straight towards the Skarmory who was preoccupied dodging Garchomp's attacks and grabbed it by its wings, surprising both its rider and itself. Charizard spun around and I had to hold onto his neck to not get tossed off, unlike the rider who I saw quickly falling to the earth.
Charizard roared as he threw the now riderless Skarmory at another and when it hit I saw yet another rider begin to fall to his death. Out of the seven riders and the seven Skarmory we had taken out two Skarmory and four riders. But I had no time to feel proud GARCHOMP DODGE!" I yelled at him, but he was too slow and got hit on the wing with a hyper beam. How did these things even know hyper beam?
I saw Pikachu managed to hold in as Garchomp recovered. I sighed in relief "Garchomp dragon breath" I told him, he fired it off, but it was easily dodged. I saw two Skarmory rushing at me and Charizard with wing attack "Dodge" I told him he dove under the first and folded his wings and dropped under the second. But it was my fault for this. I got hit right in the abdomen with the right wing of the Skarmory.
I felt the wind leave my lungs as I fell towards the ground "PikaPi!" I heard from above me. Just after, Garchomp raced past me but slowed so he was right next to me. He turned so his back was facing me and angled his wings so began to drift to me and soon I was pressed up against him. As soon as he felt me against his back I angled his wings so we did a U and shot upwards.
"Thanks Garchomp, I owe you one" I told him I looked back up at the battle and didn't like what I saw. Charizard was in the middle of a sphere they had made around him and kept attack him when they found a blind spot during their revolutions around him. "Charizard! Air Drop!" I yelled at him, but he didn't hear me and blindly launched a flamethrower at the circling enemies.
"Garchomp get his attention" I told him, Garchomp let out a roar that drew the enemies, and Charizard's attention. I held up a finger to Charizard and pointed it downwards while moving the entire hand in the same direction. He seemed to get what I meant though because he launched himself downward and crashed into a riderless Skarmory and broke out of his death sphere.
He flew over to us and we regrouped "Charizard, inferno" I told him. He coated himself in red hot flames and turned to face the enemy. But then I noticed where we were. I could see the Indigo Plateau not far from here. "Garchomp fire a flashy attack in that direction" Garchomp complied and used his pride and joy of all his attacks. I smiled, it was one of my favorites as well
Meteors fell from the heavens, making quite a spectacle. Just as he finished the attack we got hit, hard. We fell to the earth, but Garchomp recovered and we flew towards our enemy. It was the leader and one other assassin.
I glanced to look at Charizard who was against one rider and two Skarmory. We'd have to finish this and get to him fast, he doesn't really have a sense of strategy. They came at us in a flurry of movement 'Agility and quick attack huh?' I thought. Garchomp up and to the left I told him. He moved just in time and we dodged the leader. But then we got hit from the left by the other one. I almost rolled off Garchomp's back.
I pulled myself back up "Garchomp, use dragon breath and spin" I told him, flattening myself against his bad and holding onto his neck. He let out the scorching flames out of his mouth and it spun around, creating a blazing hot sphere around us. "E-extend you w-wings" I chocked out through the heat. He spun once more and opened his wings pushing the flames away from us and at our enemies and everywhere else.
But all we managed to do was skim one. I stood, breathing heavily. "Pikachu, electro ball. Garchomp, coat it in flames" Pikachu jumped it the air and launched the sphere of electricity at one of them. I saw Charizard swoop in and pick him up. "Now" I told Garchomp who launched a dragon breath at it, pushing faster towards its target. An explosion came from the area of impact and I saw a rider fall but grab onto the Skarmory's legs and pull himself up on his still flying Skarmory. 'Just die already' I thought
"Garchomp, use-" but I was cut off as a massive hyper beam blew past me and drilled the leader and his Skarmory. I saw him fall off and his Skarmory fall with him "Sorry I'm late, did I miss anything?" Lance said from atop his Dragonite. "Fucking show off" I muttered
"Garchomp, dragon claw" I ordered. Garchomp roared and flew straight towards the lone Skarmory and its rider. He grabbed it by its wings and flew straight to the ground, at what looked like the coliseum, but I couldn't tell because my eyes were swimming. The impact was huge. I swear I heard the Skarmory's bones being crushed when it hit the ground. But it got up, even though its rider had fallen off and was slowly getting up not far away. I slid myself off Garchomp and walked over to the fallen assassin getting ready to make sure he was dead. but he got up and drew his knives.
I was so tired, I was so fucking tired. But my day wasn't over yet. I came at me with a swipe downwards that I jumped back to dodge, but he followed through and attacked again. I jumped back again, and again, and again, behind him, one of Garchomp's dragon breaths (probably directed at the Skarmory) barely missed him and scorched by his back.
But he ignored the heat and stabbed downward with his right. I grabbed his wrist and launched a quick jab towards his ribs. I followed through with a right hook to the temple and then an uppercut to the jaw.
The uppercut caused him to fall to the ground, making his crossbow and its bolts to fly out of their holster and onto the ground. I grabbed one of the bolts and held it like a knife. A horrible odor reached my nose and I realized that if came from the bolt, it was poisoned. The assassin pulled himself up and grabbed a knife he dropped when he fell.
He lunged at me and I rolled past him. Standing up immediately after, I lunged at him, hoping to get at least a scratch on him. Even that would get the poison in his system. But he moved to the right and made for a stab at my ribs. I rolled away from the strike and stood. Suddenly, a huge wind pushed me to the right. It was a gust from Skarmory that Garchomp hopefully dodged.
I got my balance back, but the assassin was already on top of me. I felt a blade pierce my arm just above the elbow and hissed in pain. I jumped back from him and got ready for a follow up, but the assassin just got in a defensive position. I glanced at my wound, it wasn't deep, but it hurt like hell. I looked back at the assassin and saw some movement behind him.
The assassin looked where I was and immediately reacted. He grabbed Yellow and put a knife against her throat. I stumbled to his crossbow and loaded my bolt into it before pointing it at him. His eyes were deadly calm, and I could tell that he hand no problem with killing her. Suddenly, the assassin's Skarmory flew in between us and crashed into the wall broken and bloody, assumed dead
Garchomp let out a roar and I saw his mouth light up with a dragon breath directed at the assassin "NO! Garchomp hold your fire" (no pun intended). I looked back at the assassin, but quickly looked behind him "Silver! be careful" the assassin twisted around to behind him to see... nothing. I fired my bolt and watched as it drove into the assassin's neck.
I heard Yellow scream when the assassin dropped dead, but I didn't care. I walked to the wall and slid down it. I looked at my arm , it wasn't that bad, except for the fact that the flesh had turned a sickly green color, and now my entire body felt like I was being burt alive. "Fuck" I said I looked up at Yellow who was on the ground, looking at the crops in fear. "Yellow, bring me a clean knife" I told her
She looked at me slowly before nodding and bringing a knife over. I took it from her hands and made a few cuts at the top of my arm, causing blood to pour down my arm. I heard a whimper come form Yellow. I dropped the knife and grabbed her shoulders. "Look at me. LOOK AT ME. He's dead, you're alive, I'm alive. But I might not be for much longer. I need your help, do you know how to treat poisons? Because I have mp idea. I'm relying on you here okay? I'm trusting my life to you here" I told her
I saw the panic in her eyes slowly recede. Her face hardened "Hold out your arm" she told me. I extended my arm for her, she put her lips to the wound and began suck out the tainted blood. She spat it out and did it again, she kept going till eventually Crystal, Gold, and Sabrina showed up. "Holy shit, Ash are you alright" Sabrina said as they ran up to us.
I was too weak to respond though, thankfully Yellow was "Sabrina, I need three Pecha berries, one Lum berry, and two Sitrus berries" she told her before putting her lips back on my wound and sucking out the blood again. "Is he going to be okay?" I heard Gold ask "Gold don't interupt Yellow while she is trying to save someone's life" Crystal said.
"Look at that Skarmory, what the hell happe-" I heard Gold begin, but it all became a blur after a while. There was still a burning sensation but it was fading. I closed my eyes and let sleep come over me like a gentle blanket, then the nightmares came
