Chapter 27 Magical Nanny or Not Your Average Mary Poppins

Sookie's Point of View

I woke to a giggling Hunter. I tried stretched and noticed I could not move. I was sandwiched between the guys. I felt like a living teddy bear with the way they were clutching me. "Mama Sookie I'm hungry. Why are Mr. Godric and this one in bed with us? Who is he?" Hunter asked in between giggles.

"Just a minute Hunter, I am kind of stuck." I concentrated like Claude taught me and popped out from between them. Instinctually they closed the gap between them. I had thought that they could not move during their "sleep". I guess I was wrong.

"Wow Mama Sookie can I do that too?" He asked bouncing on the bed behind Eric. I notice he has my small furry friend from yesterday.

"I don't know if you can do that yet or not, we will have to ask a friend of mine. How about we get something to eat and then we can get dressed for the day?" I asked.

"Ok, Mama Sookie but I got to go potty." He hopped of the side of the bed and grabbed my hand in his. The kitten stretches and curls up near Eric's head on the pillow. I lead Hunter to the toilet. I stepped back into the bedroom and started to pick out clothes for the both of us. I heard the toilet flush. "Mama Sookie I need help." He yelled from the bathroom.

"What do you need baby?" I asked opening the door.

"I can't reach." He said pointing to the sink. I hoisted him up so he could wash his hands. We then made our way down stairs to the kitchen. Cat was at the stove making pancakes. I could smell bacon and sausages as well.

"Good morning I hope you two are ready to eat." She said smiling at us.

"We are, do you need any help?" I ask. I feel bad that she is doing all of this work for us. Then again I know this is her job, but still I feel guilty.

"No I have it all sorted. You two just sit down. Bobby called and said he would be here in about thirty minutes. I wanted to make sure I have enough food for everyone. I really did not know how many to expect this morning after what was going on last night." She explained placing a plate in front of both of us. Again Hunter chose to sit in my lap.

"What do you mean about last night?" I question remembering what I saw in the living room.

"Miss Pamela had a party with our guests. They had over several … um… ladies for entertainment. I don't know what all they were doing but … ah… I found some odd articles of clothing." She blushed turning around and busying herself once more. In all my years working here this is the first sex party I had to clean up after. I am sure Master Eric would not be pleased if I told her. Oh but she is probably hearing what I am thinking right now.

"Mama Sookie what is a sex party? Is it like a birthday party? Why did she find peoples stuff did they go swimming? I want to have one for my next birthday." Hunter told me silently.

"It is an adult party that is very boring and not something you would want to have for your birthday." I explain cutting up his food. We sit and eat in silence for several minutes. Soon Barry comes wandering into the kitchen. He looks pale and has an obvious bit mark on his neck. He sits down next to me and not opening his eyes.

"Mama Sookie where is his pants?" Hunter asks looking at Barry. I had not noticed but apparently Barry favors boxers. Barry jumps at the question.

"Did he ask you a question in his head?" I nod my head. "You seem to be collecting telepaths Sookie." He chuckles before digging into his own plate. Soon Bobby strolls in carrying a large folder.

"Miss Sookie I have the list of possible caregivers here for you. I have their photos, resumes and basic information. The ones at the top I think will be the best candidates, but I wanted to give you a large selection to choose from." He places the folder on the table next to the empty plates.

"Thank you so much Bobby. Could you help me set up some interviews with them? I would like to find one that can start tomorrow. I have a class this afternoon that I can miss but I really need to be there again tomorrow afternoon."

"I can call them now and have them come over as soon as possible. Would you like to have the interviews here or somewhere else?"

"Um maybe we could do it somewhere else. I don't really want to have a bunch of people that Eric doesn't know at his house. Where else do you suggest?"

"We could use one of the offices downtown. Master Eric has several buildings we could choose from. I suggest the one on ninth. There are no tenets using the second floor right now. I know Master Eric has a conference room and office set up there. I will have everything set up within the hour. Who all would you like to be at the interviews?"

"I want to take Hunter with so I know if he likes any of them. I trust your opinion, if you wouldn't mind being there?"

"Of courses Miss Sookie, I will get started." He took out his phone and started to make the calls.

"Barry you are welcome to come but I don't know how entertaining it would be." I offer not wanting to leave him out.

"I can always bring my computer and play games. I am not looking forward to spending the day here with the donors." I get a peck from his mind. Two of the donors are still sleeping in the house. I will need to talk to the guys about that.

"Oh well in that case when you are ready meet us in the back garden." I say. I really need to talk to Claude about Hunter. I am sure he would know more about what is going on with him then I would. I will call him to me after we are ready. "Hunter let's go get dressed." I smile down at him and pick him up as I stand. After we are both dressed and ready, I look for a bag I can put some things in for Hunter to keep him occupied. I find an old, beat up, diaper bag with some pull-ups and wipes. I take out the pull-ups and put Hunter's new toys in the bag along with some trucks and paper. I look to see if he has any crayons but I can't find any. I decided that I need to start making the list of toys and other things he would like or need. "Hunter do you have any crayons?"

"No Daddy put them in the trash. He said I colored in bad places. Can we get new crayons I miss coloring." I notice that Hunter is willing to speak when we are alone. I may need to talk to the doctor about that. He is sitting back on the bed petting the kitten. We are going to have to name that little guy soon.

"Well I think I can fix that." I may end up spoiling him but he is going to know that he is loved. I concentrate on a box of crayons suddenly it is sitting on the dresser.

"Mama Sookie how did you do that?" Hunter asks.

"Hunter that is a special thing the Mama Sookie can do. It is kind of like how you can move things when you are upset."

"Ok it's cool." He smiles at me. I place the crayons into the diaper bag. We leave the kitten with the guys to sleep. I pause for a moment and realize he is going to need food, water and somewhere to potty. Again I think really hard about a set of cat bowls filled with water and kitten chow. They pop into existence at the end of the bed. I pick the kitten up and put him on the floor in front of the food bowls. He starts eating instantly. I feel bad for forgetting him last night. Next I think about a self-cleaning litter box I saw a while ago on late night TV. I imagine it sitting in the bathroom next to the toilet. Within seconds it is there ready for the little guy to use. I hope the kitten is litter trained or I am going to have two very unhappy vampires when we get back.

I remember to get my shawl and I grab our things. I pick up Hunter and make sure to carefully shut the door. We walk down stairs into the living room. I put the bags down on the sofa and take Hunter to the back garden. I sit us down on the lounger with Hunter in my lap. I notice I am slightly tired but not as much as yesterday. I think about Claude standing in front of us. I concentrate with all my might. A soft pop later Claude is standing in front of us in nothing but a fluffy towel.

"Hello Cousin. I will be right back as you can see I am under dressed." He pops away.

"Mama Sookie he was naked. Why didn't he have any clothes?" Hunter questions in a serious voice.

"I must have caught him at a bad time Hunter. He is my cousin and friend. I want you to trust him ok." I try to explain.

"Ok, he had pretty hair." Hunter agreed just as Claude popped back fully clothed.

"Thank you. So what do you need darling cousin?" Claude pulled up one of the other chairs.

"Well… um… first I guess I should introduce you. This is Hunter."

"Hello Hunter." He greeted him. "So I take it the meeting did not go as you would have hoped?"

"It is what it is at the moment. Also I wanted to talk to you about Hunter. He is like me but he seems to have some different talents." I explain.

"What all can he do?" Claude asks with a serious look on his face.

"So far I have seen that he is telepathic and when he was upset things in the room float. I was told he can talk to the dead." I hug Hunter as I talk.

"Hunter I want you to try something for me. I want you to look at this flower. While you are looking at it I want to think about it moving. Can you do that for me?" Claude plucked a lily and set it on the table.

Hunter looked at me to see if it was ok. "Go ahead baby, it is ok." I encourage him. He sits up further and gazes at the lily.

"Mama Sookie it won't move."

"Try one more time and if it doesn't move you can try again later with just me." He tries again only this time it starts to hover. Then suddenly it shot to our direction. I catch it and smile. "That was so good Hunter." I praise him.

"Hunter I want you to try to put is back on the table." Claude instructs him. After a few seconds the lily floats back to the table. "Good job Hunter. I want you to practice that when you are at home. I will come and practice with you too." Soon Barry and Bobby come out into the back garden with us.

"Miss Sookie we are all set. The first interview is in forty minutes. I think it would be wise for us to head to the office." Bobby says carrying his folder and a large note pad.

"Alright, Claude we are going to interview potential caregivers for Hunter. I would like you to come with us if you can."

"Of course." We all pile into the SUV. I notice that someone moved Hunter's car seat into the back seat. I get Hunter situated and sit next to him. Claude joins us in the back. Twenty minutes later we are pulling up to a large office building. We get situated in the conference room. I let Hunter play on the floor. Claude sits to my right and Barry on my left. Barry has his laptop open and is playing The first applicant is lead in by Bobby. She is a short lady with dark brown hair. Her eyes are a soft brown. She is dressed in slacks and a nice blouse.

"Hello, I am Sookie Stackhouse." I introduce myself, offering my hand.

"Lacy Church." She says. I keep my mind open throughout our interview. Ok I can do this. She gives herself a pep talk. I notice her thoughts are somewhat fuzzy.

"Tell us a little about yourself."

"I have worked with children for seven years. I have worked in daycares and as a nanny. I am going to school for to become a nutrition." She pauses. "My goal is to become a nutritionist. I have been working to help pay my way through school. I like working with children and helping to give them a nurturing environment."

"You are going to school, what days are you available?" I ask.

"Most of my classes are in the late afternoon or evening. I am available from eight in the morning until three in the afternoon most days."

"How do you feel about vampire community?" Claude asks.

"I support their rights but I am not overly comfortable around them." Why is he asking that? Over the next several questions I get the impression she was not the right fit. I did not want to have someone that could not handle being around vampires watching Hunter. We go through two more interviews before we break for lunch. Bobby orders us lunch from a nearby restaurant.

"Mama Sookie I don't like those ladies they are weird. I want you to stay with me." Hunter tells me while munching on his fries.

"I will be with you as much as I can but I have to go to class some days. I will make sure that we find someone that you like." We finish our lunch. By this time Barry has relocated to one of the empty offices to play his games. We had two more interviews and I was starting to lose hope. I look at the resume for the next interview. It is another young lady. She is from New Orleans. I pause when I notice that she has been working in a voodoo shop.

"Bobby why is this one in here?" I show him the resume.

"She is a very open person. She also is a practicing witch. I thought she might be more comfortable working with a child, like Hunter."

"Ok, has she worked with children before?"

"Not that I am aware of but I think she may be a good match. Please give her a chance." When she comes into the building I can feel her thoughts instantly. She is one of the loudest thinkers I have ever come across. It is almost like she is shooting in my head.

"Mama Sookie she is really loud. I like her." Hunter tells me with a huge smile. I can't help but laugh.

"Hello, I'm Amelia I just know we are going to get one great." She says when she burst through the door. Wow the auras in the room are amazing. They are wicked powerful. The little guy in the corner is a hoot.

"Nice to meet you Amelia. Please sit down." I gesture to the seat across from us. "Tell me about yourself."

"Well I am a witch so I am really open minded. I have never worked with kids but am stoked to work with one. I am ready to relocate up here." She is really bubbly.

"Mama Sookie I want her." Hunter says walking over to the table with his dinosaur. I pick him up and put him in my lap.

"You are comfortable with human magic, how are you with fae magic?" Ask Claude.

"I am totally fine with it. I am guessing that you all are fairies. That is cool."

"When are you available? I am going to school and we need someone to be with Hunter when I am gone. I would also like to have someone who is willing to work nights. There may be times when I am working and we need someone."

"I am totally free right now. My schedule is open."

"When can you start?" I ask. If Hunter likes her I think we have found the right one.

"Now" She says with a big smile.

"I will have a contract written up for you to sign tomorrow. Come to this address tomorrow at 8am." Bobby says. I get Hunter's stuff picked up and we go back to the house. I feel good that we have someone to watch Hunter.
