Chapter 30 Tragedies and Tapestries
Pam's Point of View
This is complete and utter bullshit. I don't understand how my little party to entertain our guests, means that I have to be punished in such a harsh manner. How the hell was I supposed to choose only twenty pairs of shoes? How can the two of them be so heartless? Some of these shoes I have had since I was turned. I would cry if it would not ruin my Michael Kors trench coat now that would be a true tragedy. If that was not bad enough, now I have to donate the rest of my beautiful shoes to charity. I have half a mind to make Ginger buy them all back and keep them at her house until this injudicious punishment is over. In fact I will and if she loses one of them I will have a reason to finally end her. An entire fucking year without new shoes, how will I live with the shame of being seen in last season's shoes? I can feel both my maker and grandsire's mirth at my having to choose. It is like choosing between children.
"Don't look so sad Pamela, this will remind you to be more thoughtful of your actions. Every choice you make can have devastating costs." Godric smirks at me. He has been watching me sift through my shoes since he and Eric came up with the idea. Why could it not have been something else? Shit if I could keep my shoes, I would be a fucking greeter at Walmart.
"You would be this sad if you were forced to give up something you love." I grumble under my breath.
"Yes but I already know what that feeling is and now so do you. If you cannot do this task in a timely manner I will be adding to your punishment."
"What could be worse than losing my beloved shoes?" I ask foolishly.
"Keep up your back talk and you will find out. Eric has been far too lenient with you in the last hundred years. You are spoiled and do not fear the consequences of your actions."
"I was not talking back but simply continuing the conversation." I sass stupidly.
"For that remark you are going to be shopping exclusively at Walmart for the next three months. All of your clothing, undergarments included will come from this store. You will wear nothing but items purchased there for the same time period. And every negative word to come from your mouth about the clothing and the store will gain you an added week of wearing them. Do not push me Pamela or I will make it longer." WHAT THE FUCK! That is so not right. I just had to open my mouth. This is fucking great. Then I realize I will have to be seen, in public in these clothing. Fuck my undead life.
Eric's Point of View
I honestly thought that Pam was over reacting to the simple punishment. I find that I am amused with this new development. I knew my maker could be creative in his thinking, but this is truly magnificent. The best part is that, she will be financing this shopping trip all on her own. Watching Pam forcibly smile while choosing clothing for her own wardrobe was a welcome distraction from my own thoughts. Sookie has been gone for two days and I cannot stand it. I don't know what to do with myself without her in my life.
I came to the conclusion last night that I need to do something big to show her how much she means to me. I figured what better way to show her that I want to love and provide for her then to get her house finished. I had Bobby get in contact with Sookie's contractor. Besides that simple reconstruction of the kitchen, I am having them rewire the house. They are also installing central air and heating. I want her to be comfortable no matter what time of the year it is. I realize that I am giving her the perfect house to go home to. Not that I want her to leave me, but I want her to have the option to have a home to raise Hunter in. The bedroom that I imagine will be Hunter's has had a new coat of paint to the walls in a soothing, sea foam green. They are also reconfiguring the bedrooms down stairs so that she has a larger master bed and bath.
Selfishly I have also had Bobby sources new windows for the entire house that are U.V. impervious. I did not to be separated from her when we rested for the day. This would also allow both Godric and I to leave the confines of our day chamber before the sun is truly set. They are also installing a new high-tech security system. Pamela's little stunt with the donors has made me think about security a bit more.
I am not so pompous as to believe that Sookie will not balk at the idea of me building a day chamber in her home. The new windows are a compromise that will make everyone happy. I know that the contractor was ecstatic when I offered to pay triple the rate if they could work nonstop to finish all of the changes to the house in a shorter time frame. If everything goes as planned they will be done by the end of the month.
It is not just the inside of the house that I am having them refurbish but the outside as well. Everything is getting a new paint job; the garden is being tended and expanded. The drive is being paved and I had them start work on a garage for Sookie's new car. I know that she had not picked one out yet, but I have been scouring the internet for the perfect car. I know that she wanted a used car and I have found just that. I have narrowed it down to two cars one is a relatively new VB beetle in a sunny yellow. The other is an absolute classic. It is a 1953 Buick Special Convertible. The exterior is black with a plush red interior. I know that she would most likely select the beetle so this gives me the perfect excuse to add the other to my collection. I will tell her that I am investing in a car for Hunter when he is able to drive. That is another thought I will set up an account for Hunter. He will be able to go to any college he chooses. I plan to provide for the both of them even if it is not Sookie's wish.
By the end of our shopping trip, Pamela has a mountain of clothing, I am sure she wants nothing more than to burn. King Davis has made it official with the powers that be; he is now the king of the mighty kingdom of Louisiana and Texas. His coronation will be held in two weeks once he has gotten everything set up and his power base is stable. He has decided to continue to reside in the state until that time, which means I am still playing host to a monarch and his entourage. I am hoping he will be able to assist me with my other monarch problem. While, I have not seen nor heard from Freyda, I know she will be coming back. I don't know what else I can do to show her that I have no desire to be her consort. The very idea of lying with her is enough to make me wish I could puke.
Sookie's Point of View
"Claude what is going on? Where are we and why am I dressed like this?" I ask, finally noticing my sundress had been replaced by something that would be more welcome at a Renaissance fair. I was in a long, light blue, silk dress. Not normally something I would wear, it is still undoubtedly beautiful. I notice that like me Hunter's clothing has been changed as well. He was wearing crisp, white, linen pants and a silk shirt in deep hunter green. He has on a little vest in white with gold trim. We both have what I can only assume to be slippers made of silk covering our feet.
"You are in Faery because you needed to be healed. Unfortunately I could not keep your and Hunter's presence here a secret, so we are in the royal residence. You are in what every female of the royal family wears while in court. Wither you like it or not you are a princess. That means while you are here you will have to act as one." His face was apologetic.
"Well then you can just take us home now that I am awake."
"I would but I don't know what will happen now that your spark has been bathed in the healing waters. Your powers were already starting to emerge quickly while in the human realm. I fear what will happen if you are not trained properly. It is safest for you and Hunter to remain here, while I help you through your maturity. Grandfather would also like to spend some time with you while you are here."
"So you are saying that we are stuck here? I have a life I need to get back to. For that matter so does Hunter. If I miss any more classes I am going to have to take the semester over. People are going to wonder where I am." Or at least I hoped they would.
"Sookie I promise you that you are not stuck here. This is just the safest place for you while you complete your change. As soon as it is safe for you to go home, I will get you there. One thing you must know is that time moves differently here. While you have only been in the realm for six hours you have been away from home for two days. I don't want you to worry about that at the moment. Right now I think we should get you two fed and then Grandfather would like to finally meet you." Claude motions towards the door. I pick Hunter up and follow Claude down a long corridor. The sound of our footsteps echoes off the walls. We soon come to a winding staircase, which leads to another long corridor. I was sure we had been walking for well over fifteen minutes when Claude stops in front of a large set of double doors. They open to reveal a gorgeous kitchen. There are many beings bustling around the room, cooking all sorts of foods.
A short round female stops in front of us, "Master Claude what brings you down here? Is there something I can get you?"
"Yes Tasha, if it would not be too much trouble, we would like some dinner."
"Oh it is no trouble at all. What you the young Masters and Miss like? We have a lovely roast chicken or prime rib. We also have a hearty potato soup."
"I would like the chicken and a small bowl of the soup. Some mead to drink."
"Mama Sookie can I have spaghetti?" Hunter asked silently.
"I will ask. I am sure they can make it." I tell him. "Hunter would like some spaghetti and I would like the soup."
"Of course Miss, what would you like to drink?"
"I would love some tea, and Hunter will take milk." She nodded her head and took off to get our requests. Claude leads us to a long dining table in the adjoining room. Unlike the bedroom I woke up in this room in light by candles. I wonder why there are no windows in here. Claude pulls out a chair for me on the left side near one end of the table. He sits to my left. Hunter is again sitting in my lap. I find that I am unwilling to let go of him. He does not seem to mind, as he rest his head on my chest. Soon Tasha appears at our table with a tray laden down with food. We eat in relative silence, only those sounds of the kitchen staff.
While we are eating I notice a tapestry hanging on the wall. It depicts a young woman with long flowing, golden blonde hair. She is dressed in a simple cotton dress. She is sitting under a tree, with her eyes closed. She looks so peaceful. I feel like I have met her, but I have no idea why. I am still looking at her when the doors to the dining room open. An older gentleman enters, his skin glows with a soft white light. He is dressed like Claude and Hunter. The only difference being the gold circlet atop his long silver hair. His face has a welcoming smile and his eyes twinkle in the candle light.
Claude stands and gives a slight bow. I stand as well. I do my best attempt at a curtsey while holding Hunter. The older man's smile intensifies. "Sookie this is Niall Brigant the crowned prince of Faery. Niall this is your great-granddaughter Sookie Stackhouse of the house of Brigant and her charge Hunter Savoy your great-great-grandson." Claude introduces us.
"My darling Sookie, you are more beautiful than I imagined." He moves quickly to hug me. I have learned through interacting with Claude that fairies are a touchy feely bunch. "Sit down and finish your meal. We can talk when you are finished." He takes the seat at the head of the table on my right. Tasha burst into the room carrying a tray of food for Niall.
