Double Act

Chapter 11: Leader of the Whack

A/N: Here's the next chapter. Last time, Kira learned who both rangers were. She made a promise to Kennedi's sensei to not say anything to her teammates about knowing who the orange ranger is. They know Trent is the white ranger. Tommy and Jason are stuck inside an amber rock and no one knows how to get him out of it just yet. What's going to happen now when their personalities become altered?

Most of this chapter will probably just be fluff.

So right now, I'm in the middle of like, three or four different stories. I am almost finished writing chapter 8 for Damaged Mirrors, I just finished writing chapter 14 for Double Act, and I'm on chapter 18 of a story I'm debating on posting or not (if I do post it, it's going to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles [2012 edition]/Power Rangers/House of Anubis crossover). Anyway, I'll keep you guys updated on what's going on and hopefully I'll be able to update more frequently soon.

Disclaimer: I only own things not originally in the show.

It was later in the day that Kira found herself in Blue Bay Harbor for the night, spending it with her sister. She had gone straight to Kelly's shop after confronting Trent at the lake for the second time. The singer knew that her sister was the orange ranger, but she wanted to hear her sister confirm it. She also doubted her sister knew of the remedy there was for her gem. Her teammates knew she was going to be out of town for the night and would return in the morning.

"Hey Kira," Tori greeted as she saw the younger girl enter the store. The blonde surfer was on her way out of the shop having a class to teach. "Tell Ken I'll be back later with Leanne. I have a class."

"Alright Tor," Kira agreed. "Good luck. From what Ken tells me, this is your troublesome class."

"Don't remind me," Tori huffed as she left. Kira walked further into the store and headed upstairs to set her things in Ken's room. She walked back downstairs and said hello to Kelly before moving into the garage area, where Shane was helping the red head out by fixing a couple bikes.

He looked up when he saw Kira enter. "Hey Kira." Then he frowned. "I thought you weren't coming down tonight?"

"Hey," she returned the greeting. "And I didn't plan to. However, some recent events made this visit necessary."

"Like what?" Shane wondered.

"Stuff to do with the suits," Kira shrugged.

Shane paused in his actions and looked up at her. "So you know about Ken?"

"Considering she pulled out some ninja tricks in battle, yeah," Kira confirmed. "She doesn't know I know, but that's only part of why I'm here. It's also long overdue for a visit."

"But you two see each other like, every week," Shane pointed out.

"And even that's too long," Kira muttered. "You do realize that before she moved here last semester, we never spent more than a few hours apart?"

"Wouldn't that get boring?" Shane wondered. "I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, but don't you get bored hanging out with each other every day?"

Kira thought for a moment. "While the break is nice, we both feel like we need the other around to function properly. For most of our lives it's just been us and our mom. I mean, yeah our uncle helped out a lot, but he spent about a year halfway around the world and Ken and I had to learn to depend on each other for a lot of things. We've kind of developed a bond that can only be broken by death."

"I wish I had that kind of relationship with my brother," Shane sighed.

"Don't you two get along better now?" Kira frowned.

"Yeah, and we are close," Shane agreed. "But it's more of a typical sibling relationship. You make yours and Ken's seem like you're a married couple."

Kira was unsure whether to take offense to that or not, but she didn't have time to respond as a blur of black, blonde, and orange crashed into her, nearly knocking her off the counter she sat on.

"You made it!" Kennedi grinned, breaking away. Behind her stood a red head Kira had yet to meet.

"Of course I did," Kira scoffed. "We need to talk about some things, and I just needed to get away from Reefside for the moment."

"Then what are we waiting for?"

Later that night, once the girls were all gathered around, their party began. Kennedi had organized a sleepover with her, Tori, and Leanne. She invited Kira as well, but Kira had been unsure if she would be able to make it. Fortunately she had been able to, and before the party started, she and Kennedi had been able to talk about the orange ranger business. Once the air was cleared, the girls were ready to party.

"So let me get this straight," Kennedi blinked, trying to process what her sister just revealed. "You're saying that my partner in crime is Trent? The quiet busboy at the café?"

"Yup," Kira nodded. "He mistook you for me when you guys were held up in Mesogog's lab."

"Can I just say that Mesogog sounds like a pervert?" Tori commented.

"And you're the only one on your team who knows about Ken?" Leanne questioned. Kira nodded once more. "And your uncle along with your teammate and mentor is encased in a stone that you can't break?"

"That about sums it up," Kira confirmed. "You guys didn't have this much drama, did you?"

Tori and Kennedi shared a thoughtful look. "Nope."

The following morning, Kira found herself back in Reefside and in the dino lab. Ethan and Conner were there as well, doing their own thing. Hayley kept running scans over the two fossilized men, hoping to find something. Conner was dribbling a small soccer ball around the room. Ethan was playing a new game on his laptop. Kira had brought her guitar in and sat on the steps, strumming it. Last night was a good break for her, and she was glad she got to get answers from her sister.

"McKnight on a breakaway," Conner narrated his actions.

"Hayley, one more level, and I break my all-time record!" Ethan grinned. Conner stopped playing soccer and picked up the ball. Taking careful aim, he tossed it onto the keyboard on Ethan's laptop, effectively shutting the game off. "Conner!"

"Sorry," he shrugged, moving around to pick up the soccer ball.

"Now I have to start all over," the blue ranger whined.

Conner patted his shoulder. "Yeah, there's this great new thing called the outdoors. You might want to check it out."

"Tell you what," Ethan challenged. "I'll check that out when I see you checking out the library." Conner looked over to where the girls were doing their own thing.

"You got about as much chance as seeing that as seeing Kira at a fashion show," he retorted, causing the dirty blonde singer to glare at him.

"Do you really wanna go there?" she challenged. Conner, knowing better, backed down.

Ethan shrugged and moved over to where Hayley was scanning over Tommy and Jason. "Hey, any luck de-fossilizing Dr. O?"

"Not yet," she sighed. "I just can't find an energy source that can safely break the molecular bonds of the amber." At that moment, the alarms beeped, causing them all to head over to the computers. The screen showed a picture of an odd asteroid in the middle of the woods. "That's weird. The satellite's picking up a strange reading in the forest."

"Let's go take a look," Conner suggested.

It wasn't a long hike through the woods, considering the dino lab exit led into it. The three rangers had figured out their way around it by now, but they didn't exactly know it like the back of their hands yet. They continued walking until they reached a huge hole in the ground and a black rock with a purple glow emitting from it caught their attention. Across the hole, they found Cassidy, Devin, and Trent looking at it as well.

"Trent?" Kira's voice broke through the boy's thoughts.

"What are you guys doing here?" he asked, standing up.

"I might ask you the same thing," Conner huffed. "I haven't seen you around for a while."

"Yeah we really need to catch up," Ethan agreed, the same tone in his voice that Conner had.

Conner went to take a step forward, only for Kira to stop them. "Not now guys."

"They're right," Conner spoke, still looking at Trent as he said this. Then he turned his attention to the rock in the hole. "Let's check this thing out."

"I don't think I'm supposed to let you do that," the newest monster, Rojobot, appeared, a group of tyranodrones following him. Thankfully, this was enough to send Cassidy and Devin running back the way they came, leaving the rangers free to fall defensive.

"Whose side you on today, Trent?" Conner wondered.

Trent rolled his eyes. "You want my help or not?"

"If it's all the same," Rojobot spoke. "I'll just watch from over here." The tyranodrones charged, causing the five rangers to split up as they normally do. Each ranger, including Trent, had their own group of tyranodrones to deal with.

The fights took place near the space rock that they were supposed to examine, and the rangers weren't paying much attention to that. From where she fought, Kira used her Ptera scream to ward off the tyranodrones. Conner found himself using his super speed to escape attacks. Ethan used his armored skin to block attacks.

"Guys,"Hayley called over the communicators."I'm analyzing the radiation from that rock and it's really freaky. Get away from it."

"It's a little late for that," Kira huffed as she kicked a tyranodrone away.

From where he was standing, Rojobot had a sudden change in character. "I want a piece of the action!" he charged forward and swung at Conner's back, hitting it and causing the boy to stumble. The others crowded around him as they noticed the change in the monster as well. "Come on you wimps! Put 'em up!"

"You thinking what I'm thinking?" Ethan hoped, looking at his teammates. Raising their wrists, their morphers appeared.

"Dino Thunder, Power Up!" Once all three were morphed, they split off again. Conner took it upon himself to fight off Rojobot, leaving the others to deal with the tyranodrones. The fights were made much easier now that they were morphed. However, they all failed to notice that the rock sent small purple beams into each of the rangers. It was painless and they didn't feel anything at all, let alone know it was coming.

As soon as the fight was finished, the rangers regrouped and demorphed near the space rock. The monster, tyranodrones, and Trent had all vanished. "Well," Conner breathed. "That was a challenging altercation."

"I was just getting started," Ethan felt ready to fight again. "I wanted to annihilate that goon."

"Ew," Kira examined her fingernails. "I got dirt under my nails. That's, like, totally disgusting."

"Guys,"Hayley called once more."Head back to the lab. I have some news about the space rock."

"Space rock?" Kira, Ethan, and Conner looked at each other.

None of them noticed Kennedi watching from the trees.

"It's actually a meteor fragment," Hayley explained to the three. Conner seemed interested. Kira and Ethan were paying attention but had almost no idea what the red head was saying. There was definitely something odd going on.

"Fascinating," Conner mused. "It must've broken off during some sort of…intergalactic collision." They all frowned, Hayley because she was confused as to how Conner knew that, and Kira and Ethan because they didn't know what he was talking about. "What?"

"I'm just afraid coming in such close proximity to it might have some strange side effects," Hayley bit her lip. "Do you guys feel okay?"

Ignoring her question, Kira spoke up. "Well, I, for one, am going home. If I don't soak my cuticles in an aloe bath, my nails will never grow out."

"I gotta hit the gym," Ethan decided. "I need to work on my pecs."

"I want to get home to watch that documentary on the great pyramids," Conner added. "Looks fascinating."

Hayley knew something was wrong.

"Hey guys," Hayley greeted the teens as they entered the later that day. She had called them there after finding out more information on the space rock, and she was hoping it was good enough news to get them to work together. After their fight against a monster yesterday, it was evident something was wrong.

"What now?" Ethan groaned. "I was having a super intense workout."

"And I was right in the middle of a very compelling biography," Conner added.

"Is this gonna involve dirt?" Kira wondered. "'Cause if it does, I'm gonna have to say uh-uh."

"Sorry I ruined your busy day," the red head snapped. "I just thought you might like to know I think I found a way to un-fossilize Dr. Oliver and Jason." They all seemed interested now. "The meteor fragment - my theory is that it frees your inner self. That's why you guys are acting so weird."

Conner seemed to realize what she was saying. "Of course. If you could harness its power, you could free them from the inside out. Although, I do take offense at being called weird."

"Sorry," Hayley apologized. "You're not being weird. It's just that the rock is allowing you to show a side of yourself that you don't normally show."

"A recessive personality trait," Conner concluded.

"You could say that," Hayley agreed. "Like, Conner, there's a part of you that's intelligent, studious. Ethan, there's a part of you that's athletic, even competitive."

"So that's why Trent helped us," Kira recalled. "There's still a part of him that's really good."

Ethan shrugged. "I still don't get any of this."

"You don't have to," Hayley assured. "For now, just pull it together as a team. Trust me."

"That sounds logical," Conner agreed.

After they finally destroyed the monster and were back to normal, the teens headed back to the lab. They had a piece of the destroyed meteor with them, since Hayley realized that they could use it to free the two men. None of them had seen Kennedi as the orange ranger, but Kira knew her sister had been lurking around all day. When they got back to the lab, Hayley took the fragment and began to set up the machine. Kim and Trini had been called and they joined the group as well, wanting to see if this would work.

"I assume you're feeling back to normal?" Hayley questioned.

"Thank goodness," Ethan agreed.

"Since the meteor changed Trent to good," Kira theorized. "Couldn't we use it to fight the effects of the dino gem?"

"That might work," Hayley agreed. "But let's try this first." She put the rock in the machine and fired it up. The six occupants watched as the machine fired a beam at the stone, slowly melting it. The machine sparking caught their attention.

"That doesn't sound good," Kim commented. The machine suddenly died.

Kira looked at the stone. "The rock! It's fried!"

"But look," Trini pointed to the stone, where the two men were slowly starting to move again. Instead of moving to hug them, the two older women stood there and glared, telling the men they were in trouble.

"It worked!" Kira grinned as they all moved over to the men. Jason and Tommy stretched out their arms and legs.

"Good job guys," Tommy thanked, trying to ignore the look his girlfriend was giving him. "Power down." Nothing happened. "I said, power down."

When nothing happened again, Jason promptly began laughing.

A/N: Here's the end of this one. Anyway, what'll happen next? Also, I don't know where the conversation between Shane and Kira came from.
