Double Act

Chapter 15: Lost and Found in Translation

A/N: Here's the next chapter. Last time, Kira tricked Casey into helping her find the stone that will help Kennedi break free of the dino gem's hold. Kennedi had her transfer papers set, so she's now officially back at Reefside High to finish out the year. Conner and Kira are closer, but neither is addressing the fact they want to start dating. Ethan almost got into a fight and Tommy learned some things about Zeltrax. What'll happen now?

Question: If I were to do a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers crossover, would you read it?

Disclaimer: I only own things not originally in the show.

It was late at night when Conner and Kennedi found their ways into Hayley's café. Kira was up in Ocean Bluff finding the stone Kennedi needed, and only the singer knew it. She had officially started at the high school for the semester now that the holiday break was over. Her first big project was a history paper on comparing two countries, which she and Conner had been at the library working on. Seeing as Ethan never met up with them, they figured they'd find him at the café. When they entered, they saw the blue ranger watching TV with a bowl of popcorn on his lap.

"He always like this?" Kennedi frowned

"Yup," Conner answered as they made their way over. Ethan had yet to note their presence. "Dude, what are you doing? We were supposed to meet at the library."

"Hayley got a new satellite dish," Ethan replied. "Nine hundred and thirty seven channels of paradise."

"Nine hundred channels and I bet there's still never anything on," Kennedi smirked, moving to sit on the couch as well. Conner followed her but didn't exactly sit down.

Ethan scoffed. "Are you kidding? This is amazing! Foreign language soap operas, sumo wrestling, junior girls' high school synchronized swimming…I may never leave this room again!" Conner pressed the power button on the TV. "Hey, I was watching that!"

"What about your social studies assignment on comparing two countries?" Conner questioned as the blue ranger turned the TV back on.

"I'm almost done," Ethan shrugged.

"And I've completely finished mine," Kennedi grinned, stealing some popcorn. "Just relax, Conner. You don't even have an idea on what two countries to compare, do you?"

"No," Conner confirmed. "Which is why I'll see you guys later."

As he turned to leave, Ethan changed the channel once more only to find himself as the blue ranger on the screen. "No way! Conner you've got to see this!" Interest piqued, Conner walked back over to them and stood behind the couch, watching as the three rangers were displayed on screen as the title for a TV show played.

"Hey, you guys are famous!" Kennedi grinned. "Well, not exactly you guys…"

"According to the satellite guide," Ethan grabbed the booklet. He began reading the description. "It's a Japanese show about the world famous power rangers. They even dubbed it in English!"

"Kira's gonna flip when she finds out," Kennedi stated. Then she grinned again. "Which means I've definitely got to see this."

"Looks whack," Conner muttered.

Ethan gave him a look. "How do you know it's whack? You haven't even given it a chance."

"It wasn't even made here," Conner pointed out. "I mean, what would they know about power rangers in Japan?"

"Dude, don't you even want to know what they think of you guys?" Kennedi looked at him. "I mean, I would certainly love to see how they interpret us ninja rangers."

Kira found herself trekking through the forest behind Casey's house in Ocean Bluff. Hayley had managed to map it out for her and Kira was able to figure out where on the map the stone was. Casey had agreed to help her find it, not knowing the true reason for finding it. The two were walking along a path that seemed to be there, both holding flashlights and carrying bags of water. Casey knew these woods rather well and was helping her figure out the map.

"So what kind of report is this again?" Casey breathed as they stopped to have a drink of water.

"It's one on local legends," Kira lied. "We get extra credit if we can prove it's true."

"And how did you find this legend?" Casey asked.

"Internet," the singer shrugged. "Can't everything be found there?"

Casey thought for a moment before continuing. "And what exactly is this legend?"

"Basically, it's story about a couple whose love was so strong it could withstand anything," Kira answered, happy she had gone into detail with this cover story. "The guy had a stone made for her, putting all his love into it. When he died, she put her love into it as well and it became a very powerful gem. Rumor has it that the person who finds and holds it will stay with their true love forever."

"Kinda sappy," Casey commented. "Didn't think you were into that kind of legend."

"I'm more into seeing if the stone is real or not," Kira smirked. "The story I find to be a little too romantic."

Casey chuckled as they continued on their way.

The trio in the café sat watching the show on power rangers. Kennedi found herself laughing at how her friends and sister were being portrayed. Thankfully, she never had this issue. The ninja found she didn't really care for the show, but it was something interesting to see. She also found it hilarious how the two girls seemed to be sisters, despite only one of them being a ranger in it. Conner didn't seem to have any difference of opinion and Ethan seemed to be enjoying it. After telling the red ranger that something different doesn't mean its bad and seeing the villain's plan, as well as the rangers being called off, Conner decided to intervene again.

"That's it," Conner huffed. "They're totally making fun of us. I'm out of here." He stood and began heading for the door.

"Conner, wait," Ethan stopped him. "So this isn't exactly the most accurate version of our jobs as power rangers. It is kind of fun."

"You haven't even given it a chance," Kennedi added. "Don't you want to see how it ends?"

"You don't even seem that interested in it yourself," Conner pointed out.

Kennedi rolled her eyes. "Yeah, but I'm bored and this is the best offer I have right now for entertainment. Besides, if I'm gonna tell Kira about this, I better finish watching it. Or do you want to tell her when you go on your first date?"

"You two are dating?" Ethan demanded, wide eyed. "I knew there was something between you two!"

"They're not dating," Kennedi smirked. "Yet. But they will be by prom or else I'll be allowed to use whatever means necessary to get them together. That's the little deal we made, isn't it Conner?"

"Anyway," Conner glared at her. "It ends with me heading out that door, going to the library, and finishing my report. I'll see you guys later." He walked out the door.

Kennedi grinned. "He'll be back."

"How do you know?" Ethan wondered.

"He left this," the singer pulled up Conner's backpack and set it on the couch between them.

Kira and Casey finally came to a stop, or more of a dead end. Hayley's map showed that there should've been a cave near where they were, but neither one saw it. It was confusing Kira as she could feel something calling out to her, almost as if the stone knew she was there. Casey was confused as well, wondering where the supposed cave was. Kira continued looking around, hoping something would stick out and indicate they were in the right place.

"Wasn't the cave supposed to be here?" Casey asked her.

"Yeah," Kira frowned. "It should be right in front of us, but I don't see anything."

"Well, maybe the legend isn't…" he cut himself off as Kira screamed, falling down. He stood and ran over to where she was just standing, seeing a hole in the ground. When he reached it, he saw her just starting to stand up and dust herself off. "Kira, you okay?"

"I'm fine," she grumbled. "You didn't warn me there were sinkholes down here!"

"I didn't know!" Casey argued. "Just hold on. I got some rope I can send down for you to climb up on." He disappeared from her sight and she sighed.

Taking a look around, she noticed it didn't go very deep and there was a small tunnel that ended not too far away. Keeping her eyes locked in that direction, she saw something glowing. Curiosity got the better of her as she began walking toward it. The feeling she got about the stone being here grew. As she continued walking, the glow kept growing bigger. It wasn't until she was directly in front of it that the glow died down and the yellow ranger found herself face to face with an amber colored stone, a small design of a flame encased in it.

Cautiously, she reached out to grab it. When she held it in her hands, images of what was to follow regarding giving the stone to her sister flashed in her mind. Hearing a light thud brought her back to reality as she turned around, seeing a rope falling from the hole. Knowing it was Casey, she ran over and grabbed it. She started climbing up it as he began pulling the rope upward. As soon as she could, she grabbed onto the ground and pulled herself the rest of the way up.

"You okay?" Casey asked.

"I found the stone."

Reluctantly on his part, Conner had returned to retrieve his backpack. Kennedi and Ethan managed to convince him to stay and finish watching the show. Kennedi still didn't particularly care for it, but she didn't want to stop watching either. Conner wasn't getting into it yet, but the two on the couch knew that would change. The show continued on, and Conner seemed to gradually get more into it, enjoying it despite it being different.

"Yes!" he cheered when the rangers on screen finished off the monster. Kennedi and Ethan looked at him. "I mean…it was kinda cool…"

"See?" Kennedi smirked. "We're not so different after all. Just a different interpretation."

"Now aren't you glad you stayed?" Ethan asked.

"Yeah," Conner nodded. "I guess I am."

A/N: I decided not to add in the last scene from the episode, but I hope you enjoyed this chapter nonetheless. Anyway, up next is either the next episode down the line or Copy That. I'm trying to remember what exactly I did for Copy That aside from having it only be Trent who turns back to good. Anyway, what'll happen next?
