Double Act
Chapter 18: A Full Team
Part II
A/N: In order to make this go on for the four part thing I had planned, this chapter is going to be split in half. Instead of ending it where I normally did (since I can't remember how I ended this chapter before I lost it), I'm cutting it off at a certain point. The ninjas will make appearances here, and between this chapter and the next Conner comes to conclusions he didn't notice before. What'll happen now that Kennedi is being held hostage by the enemy and Kira is unconscious?
Sorry if this is short.
Hey guys! Sorry it's been a while since I last updated. I started college and all I can say is that I chose a major that doesn't sleep. The past few weeks I have been stressing over two projects that were back to back, a few papers (one of which I almost missed the due date for), tests and quizzes, and dealing with adjusting to college life. I'm also still working 4-5 hour shifts on weekends, so between that and homework it gives me a little time to write. I have some chapters of my current stories written out already, so hopefully, when I get a moment when I'm not doing anything for school, I will update something. I do still write when I have the time, which I'm more concerned with than updating. If I can write out chapters ahead of time and be like at least five chapters ahead of the story in writing, then I figure I can find quicker moments to update my stories. I thank you all for your patience! Also, until things start calming down with school, I will try to update at least once a month.
Disclaimer: I only own things not originally in the show.
Kennedi groaned as she came to. The last thing she remembered was being on the softball fields talking with her sister. Her head was hurting and she didn't want to move it. Moving her arms to try and rub her eyes, she found they were chained to the wall she was standing against. She noticed her feet were held down as well, and she realized this was not good. As her vision began clearing, she noticed she wasn't on the fields anymore but in a dark and dreary room. She could see because the lights were on, and the room was anything but welcoming. It was just four walls, one with a door that had bars over the window, nearly no chance for escape.
She lifted her head as she heard the door creak open and slam shut. Having already pieced together that she was in Mesogog's lair, she figured this was one of the henchmen. It wasn't the woman they faced on the fields, but rather a robotic looking one. If she remembered correctly, Kira had told her this was Zeltrax. Kennedi had no idea why she was here, but she began to figure it out as he stepped closer to her.
"So the orange ranger finally pays a visit," Zeltrax snarled. "How wonderful."
"What do you want?" Kennedi spat, narrowing her eyes.
"It's simple, really," he scoffed. "You're going to fight for us and help us take down those rangers once and for all."
Kennedi glared at him. "I will never help the enemy."
Then she felt a strong hit to her ribs.
Conner couldn't help but watch Kira wince in pain and clutch her ribs as he carried her downstairs into the dino lab. He had called Tommy and told him what he found. With any luck, Hayley would have a small medical area set up for Kira to rest in and be looked over. After finding her in the fields, he put her in his car and made sure she was safe before driving off toward their base. He didn't notice that she kept her fist clenched, holding something.
"Set her over here," Hayley ordered when she saw him walk in. Kira was still twitching when he laid her down on the table the redhead set up. Tommy was over by the monitors, running scans over the softball fields to try and find any strange energy disturbances. Conner stepped back as Hayley began running scans over her. "How long as she been like this?"
"Since I found her at the fields, at least," the red ranger answered. "The twitching started a few minutes ago." Kira stilled for a moment before twitching again and clutching various limbs in pain.
"Was there anything or anyone unusual at the fields?" Tommy asked.
"Not that I can remember," Conner shrugged. "Though before I found her, I did hear a ptera scream, but it sounded louder than normal and I was in my car when I heard it. It was like it echoed off something."
Hayley came to a realization about what must have happened.
Over in Blue Bay Harbor, Cam was typing away furiously at the computer. He had been keeping an eye on Kennedi's activities since they discovered she had an evil dino gem. It was only to make sure nothing too bad happened while she was out of town or doing something that could trigger the gem going off. They knew she still had trouble controlling it and had no say over when she morphed and didn't. For the most part, she managed to suppress the urge to morph and fight. However, that wasn't what was troubling him.
He had been monitoring the softball game to make sure nothing suspicious happened. Unfortunately, a strange energy spike drew his attention. Before he could blink, Kennedi's gem signature was missing from the screen. When he noticed that, he put in a call to the wind ninjas to meet him in Ninja Ops. Ever since that, he began searching for where Kennedi could have vanished to.
"What's going on?" Shane asked as he, Tori, and Dustin entered the underground room. Cam didn't specify anything when he called them. The three were confused as to what was going on and why they were pulled from their classes.
"Kennedi's gone missing," Cam replied. They all knew he was keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity regarding her dino gem. "One minute the signal is there and the next it's gone."
"Please tell me you're already searching for her," Tori demanded as she moved to stand beside him. "Better yet, have you tried to get a hold of her sister?"
"No answer," Cam shook his head. "But they were together before Ken disappeared. I would contact the dino rangers but I don't know them. I have an idea as to where she is, which is why I called you three here."
Dustin, surprisingly, was first to catch on. "You think she was kidnapped by Mesogog?"
Cam simply nodded.
Kennedi knew she had a few cracked ribs, if not broken completely. Zeltrax hadn't held back when he was trying to convince her to join their side. It was clear Mesogog's goons needed to take a look at the definition of convincing. She had no doubt that wasn't the end of it as he left the room, leaving her alone. The dirty blonde knew she was going to have a good amount of bruises in the morning, whether she was still here or not. She hoped she wasn't here. Then again, she figured the day was passing rather quickly.
Just as she began to get lost in her thoughts, she heard the door open again. This time when she looked up, she saw Elsa standing there. It didn't surprise her. She figured both of Mesogog's goons would try to convince her to somehow join their side. Elsa didn't seem as threatening, but that might have been because she looked human. Kennedi knew she was a good fighter as well, so that didn't really help matters.
"Let me guess," Kennedi spat. "You're here to try to convince me to join the dark side?"
"I see you catch on quick," Elsa smirked a little. "It's a shame Zeltrax had to use extreme measures. Your sister probably felt it all as well."
"It seems you're the smartest of his goons," Kennedi continued. "So tell me, why can't you see that he's not going to keep you around for long?"
"And just what do you mean by that?" Elsa glared at her.
Kennedi didn't care about the consequences as she tried to buy her friends more time for a rescue attempt. "Come on. All he wants is to rule the world himself. He knows you're smart, and because of that, he sees you as a potential threat. One wrong move on your part, and you could be out of here in an instant."
Elsa said nothing more as her hand connected with the younger girl's face.
Trent and Ethan found themselves once more at the counter in the café. They had just finished serving the two softball teams that had entered the building and had a brief conversation and introduction to the two coaches who happened to be former rangers. Some of the girls from both teams made a couple attempts to flirt with either of the two boys when they served the drinks. Trent had roped Ethan into helping since they were the only ones there that knew how to run the equipment.
"If the game is over, where are Conner and the girls?" Trent wondered. He figured if the team was here, the girls and Conner would be as well.
"No idea," Ethan shrugged. "Maybe they're just running late?"
Before Trent could respond, their morphers beeped. The white ranger answered his first as Ethan listened in. "Yeah?"
"Come to the dino lab," Tommy ordered. "We got a situation."
"What kind of situation?" Ethan frowned.
"And I can't leave the café unattended," Trent added.
This time, Hayley answered back. "If Jason's there, you can leave. But it's kind of important, so just get here quickly."
Sharing a look, the two boys left the building.
This did not go unnoticed by the former rangers.
Kira winced as she felt something smack her cheek. She was still unconscious, and it was worrying the three in the dino lab. There had been a short period when she was lying still. A few minutes had passed before she began twitching again. To the three watching, it looked like she was in pain each time she twitched. They had called Ethan and Trent to the lab so they could try to figure something out in regards to what was going on. None of them noticed that Kira's hand was still clutched around something, no matter how many times she twitched.
"Alright, what's going on?" Ethan demanded as he and Trent finally entered the lab. They were confused by the odd call they had gotten. When they entered the lab, they saw a concerned looking Conner and two slightly confused mentors. Of course, they really couldn't tell with Tommy since they couldn't see his face, but they just knew he was confused at something.
"Is something wrong with Kira?" Trent asked, noting the girl on the table.
"That's what we're trying to figure out," Tommy sighed. "We think she had a run in with the orange ranger, but we can't find any proof."
"I found her like this at the fields," Conner added. "She won't stop twitching every so often."
Finally, Kira stopped again. She was still, breathing lightly. The hand that was balled into a fist uncurled, allowing the object in it to drop to the floor. The small noise it made caught everyone's attention. Hayley, being closest to it, picked up the odd stone that had fallen. She examined it for a moment, holding it up for the others to see. Right away, she knew what this was and began typing away on the computers.
"What is that?" Ethan wondered. "It looks almost like a dino gem."
"Because in a sense, it is," Hayley responded, much to everyone's shock, including Tommy's.
Kennedi was glad Elsa hadn't been as rough as Zeltrax had been. The woman had mainly stuck to slapping her for rude comments, occasionally a kick to the ribs. She had left shortly after she had enough of Kennedi's remarks. The dirty blonde gave a sigh of relief at that before attempting to burn off the restraints. Unfortunately, it wasn't working. It was all she could think of to try to escape, but it didn't seem to be working in her favor. At least there weren't any more henchmen for her to deal with.
That was what she thought, anyway. When the door opened again, she stopped trying to burn the restraints and looked up. Standing in front of the now closed door was none other than the white ranger, or so she thought. This confused her as she assumed it to be Trent, but Trent was on the good side now. Unless he was pretending. Yet something felt off about the white ranger standing in front of her.
"Trent?" she frowned, confused. The white ranger stepped closer to her.
"I'm not that pathetic human," he growled. His voice was disoriented from Trent's, but the same nonetheless. "I have nothing in common with him."
"Aside from ranger suits," Kennedi snorted. "I know why you're here, and it won't work."
"What makes you so sure my ways won't have more of an effect on you?" the white ranger snarled. He continued walking toward her until he was uncomfortably close to her. "You will join us in fighting against the rangers, one way or another."
Kennedi narrowed her eyes at him. "I will never turn against my friends and especially my sister!" She couldn't be too sure, but she felt that he was smirking behind his helmet.
"It's a shame I'm going to have to break you down," he stepped closer once more.
Kennedi's eyes widened as she realized just what this white ranger was planning on doing.
A/N: Here's this chapter. It actually turned out longer than I thought it would for what I had planned, but it works for me. Anyway, up next is when the others figure out who the orange ranger is. Also, I know I kinda made the white ranger clone a little more evil than he's portrayed and that I've used this situation before in my Shattered Glass series (or something similar, at least), but for what I have planned later on in this series, it needs to happen.
