Double Act

Chapter 19: A Full Team

Part III

A/N: Last time, Kennedi woke up to find herself kidnapped by the enemy. Zeltrax, Elsa, and the white ranger clone were trying to convince her to join them against the rangers, and Kennedi kept refusing. Before you ask, I know what I had happen to Kennedi I had happen in other series, but as I said, it's going to be important for the stories further on in this series, and I do have it happen in other series (mostly Shattered Glass one) to other characters.

I also realize that I probably shouldn't use that idea as much as I do, but I keep finding different ways to integrate it into the plots for some of my series and different ways for the outcomes to affect my OC's. While it has never happened to me personally, I know people it's happened to from my school (not many, but there were a couple people). I know it's a serious issue and I don't mean to offend anyone when I write about it. As I think I stated in an AN in one of my other stories, my mind works in weird ways and sometimes has these "what if" scenarios, especially when I hear about these kinds of things. Plus, I think some of the books I read might have influenced those thoughts (a lot of books I read from the same author have that happen at least once in each of her series to one character).

Also, to .Grey, Tommy did babysit them when they were younger, but only a couple times, and with his memory, forgot about it. Plus the girls were young enough at that point where they wouldn't remember everything. The other MMPR (who babysat them more often), remember them and whatnot. Hunter will be filled in and he's going to make a few more appearances throughout the story soon (one obviously being in the team up to happen, one after that, and possibly one somewhere before the team up - just don't know when that one will be yet).

And as another heads up, since I've skipped over a couple episodes in this story, I'm adding in the SPD episode History into this, right after the "Passion of Conner" episode.

Anyway, enough with ranting. What's going to happen now when the rangers figure out who the orange ranger is?

Disclaimer: I only own things not originally in the show.

Hayley watched as Kira began twitching in pain again. Thankfully, she was the only one who saw where Kira's arm had fallen this time. The yellow ranger's arm was cradling her waist as she curled up into a ball. She uncurled herself a moment later and continued twitching in pain. At the moment, however, their main concern was what was happening to her exactly and what the stone that fell out of her hands was. She knew she confused them by telling them it was kind of like another dino gem. Even Tommy had no idea what she was talking about.

"So it's not a dino gem, but similar?" Ethan concluded, drawing Hayley's attention back to the situation at hand. "What exactly is it, then?"

"It's called the Stone of Resistance," Hayley answered. "I'm not quite sure what it does exactly or how it's supposed to be used, but theoretically, it could help us get the orange ranger on our side."

"But we don't even know who she is," Trent pointed out. "And why would Kira have that stone?" At the mention of this, something inside Conner's mind clicked and he began to piece everything together.

"How did we not see it before?" he spoke, getting the attention directed to him. "It was so obvious the whole time!"

Ethan frowned at his friend. "Okay, what are we missing?"

"Kennedi's the orange ranger," Conner answered. Hayley wasn't as surprised as the boys were as she had already known this. Ethan and Trent raised an eyebrow at the red ranger, wondering where he was going to go with this. Tommy was intrigued by this, and it would make sense with what he knew about the yellow and orange dino gems.

"You mean her sister?" Trent pointed over to Kira. "How?"

"Well, I'm assuming she got the dino gem same way you did," Conner shrugged. "But it kinda makes sense. When you guys first appeared, Kira looked sick and like she was going to pass out any minute, but not as bad as Trent looked."

"So what does that have to do with Kennedi?" Ethan prompted.

"They're twins," the red ranger continued. "They can feel each other's pain. It's always been that way with them. One was hurt, the other would feel the same pain, but have no visible injury. One was sick, the other at least looked sick. It would explain why she's twitching now, and when I was still at the fields she and Ken were the only people there aside from me."

Tommy caught on. "So you think Kennedi was kidnapped when she and Kira were attacked at the fields?"

"It would explain why you saw the sign for the gem there as well," Conner nodded. "Kira must have known for a while her sister was fighting us."

"But for how long?" Trent wondered.

"At least since the fossil thing at the museum," Conner replied. "She told me that night that she had talked to Ken's sensei about something. She couldn't specify what, but that it involved Kennedi somehow."

"She knew not long after they first appeared," Hayley gave her input. Everyone turned to her. "She told me after I got them out of the museum and saw the gem on Kennedi's wrist. When Jason brought Kira back here after a run in with her sister, she pretty much knew who the orange ranger was. According to her, Kennedi managed to pull a few ninja tricks in their fight and it confirmed her suspicions. Not to mention the odd dreams she told me about."

"Dreams?" the three teens questioned.

Hayley went on with her explanation. "When Kira explained the situation to me, she said she began having weird dreams around the time Trent and Kennedi found the dino gems. She said that she was in a room with just a mirror, and when she looked into it, she saw herself morphed. She was in her uniform, but the reflection was in an orange one."

"So if you both knew this, why didn't you say anything before?" Ethan asked.

"Because she made a sensei's promise," Conner stated. Everyone focused on him once again. "She must have promised Ken's sensei that she wouldn't tell anyone about Ken being the evil ranger until the time was right."

"What's the big deal about a sensei's promise?" Trent frowned.

"They can't be taken lightly," Conner sighed. "You break a sensei's promise, you pretty much cease to exist. You're stripped of your identity if you break one. However, if someone discovers the contents of the promise without being told by the person who made the promise, the promise itself becomes null and void. It explains why Kira was able to tell Hayley about it once Hayley saw the dino gem."

"So because she made a promise to her sister's sensei," Ethan began. "Kira couldn't tell us her sister was the orange ranger, and Hayley only knows because she figured it out on her own?"

Conner and Hayley nodded to confirm it. Tommy seemed to be in deep thought as he tried to recall what he knew of the two gems. Hayley decided to explain more about the stone. "The Stone of Resistance is designed to help Kennedi resist the evil hold on her gem, and break free from it. From what Kira told me, she had to be the one to find it and she could only give it to Kennedi when the time was right. I'm assuming she was going to give it to her after the game, but they must have got sidetracked when they were attacked."

"It makes sense," Tommy agreed. "And it explains the connection the gems have."

"Huh?" the teens turned to him now, confused.

"When I first found the gems, the yellow and orange ones were fused together," Tommy explained. "They weren't supposed to be, so I had to separate them. However, because they were stuck together, it meant they could only belong to people of similar personality and things like that. It's why both of them have a pterodactyl zord and sonic scream as part of the powers, as well as similar weapons."

"Let me get this straight," Ethan huffed, trying to draw his own conclusions. "Kennedi is the orange ranger we've been fighting, she doesn't fight for Mesogog, she and Kira's gem have some sort of weird connection, and Kira couldn't tell us about it because of a promise?"

"Sounds about right," Hayley confirmed. "And now, we need to focus on getting Kennedi out of Mesogog's lair, assuming that's where she is."

The ninjas had managed to figure out where exactly Kennedi was. They figured she had to be on Mesogog's island, which narrowed down their search. Cam had called Leanne and asked her to help out in the rescue mission. They figured Tori, Shane, and Dustin could do the fighting if necessary while Leanne got Kennedi out of there as fast as she could. The redhead made it to Ninja Ops rather quickly and was more than willing to help out.

Once everything for them was settled, the four ninjas headed for an invisaportal Cam had found. Together, they entered through it and found themselves in a strange area. It was a random hallway in Mesogog's lair and none of them knew where they were. Leanne split off from the others, having the tracking device that would lead her to where Kennedi was. The others were to move around and attack whatever started heading in the same direction as the red head.

So far, their idea was working. Cam was helping them out via earpieces they were wearing and telling them where an enemy was lurking or approaching. Leanne hadn't seen anything out of the ordinary yet and was quickly approaching the room Kennedi was being held in. Hearing something, the girl pushed herself against the wall and hid, watching as a white ranger came walking out of a room. She frowned for a moment, watching him disappear into another room further down the hall before heading to the one he was previously in.

"Kennedi," she breathed, seeing the girl trying to fry the chains holding her to the wall. She took very little note of the blood and bruises as she moved to help her. "Are you okay?"

"I'll let you know when we get out of here," Kennedi coughed. "Are the others here?"

"Tori, Shane, and Dustin are covering us," Leanne nodded, picking the locks. When the chains fell off, she helped Kennedi to her feet and began walking out, helping the younger girl along. "Come on. Let's get you out of here." She pushed a button on her earpiece. "Cam, I've got her."

The next thing Kennedi knew, the two were being teleported out of the lair.

In the dino lab, everyone was trying to make sense of what they just learned. For a while now, Kennedi had been living in Reefside and going to school with them. The boys were trying to figure out how they didn't notice it before while Hayley tried to get a lock on Kennedi's location. Kira had been still for a while now, breathing heavily and still unconscious. They were still concerned about her, wondering just what was happening to Kennedi and when their teammate would wake up. All of a sudden, the alarms went off, warning them to something going on.

"Well, we found her," Hayley sighed. The image on screen showed a morphed Kennedi fighting off tyranodrones. "You boys better get out there to handle this. I'll keep an eye on Kira and let you know if anything changes."

"We don't know where exactly her mind is," Tommy stated. "We have to be careful."

"Try not to hurt her too much," Hayley added, noting Kira was wincing a bit with every blow Kennedi took from the foot soldiers. "Right now, Kira's still feeling her pain."

The boys nodded before morphing and leaving, hoping things would work out.
