Double Act
Chapter 20: A Full Team
Part IV
A/N: So previously, Kennedi was rescued by her fellow ninjas, Leanne being the only one to see the condition she was in. Conner managed to figure out just who was the orange ranger, piecing together the subtle hints Kira dropped over time. Hayley explained what the Stone of Resistance was. Tommy revealed some info about the yellow and orange dino gems and how they're connected. Also, this story may be shorter than I originally planned it to be.
This chapter might be a bit short.
Also, there's 19 chapters left after this one!
Disclaimer: I only own things not originally in the show.
"You managed to get her?" Tori spoke as she, Shane, and Dustin entered Ninja Ops. Their mission had been successful, Cam teleporting Leanne and Kennedi out of Mesogog's lair as soon as he got the word to do so. Following that, he got the other three ninjas out of there. Leanne had gotten back to the base before them, not having good news to share about the rescue. While she had managed to get the younger girl out of there, some things had already happened that shouldn't have.
"Yes," Leanne nodded. "But the gem took control as soon as we were out of the lair."
"We're monitoring the attack now," Cam added. "Though it seems her sister is missing from the fight."
"Why does it sound like there's bad news that goes along with it?" Shane frowned, noting the tones in their voices.
Leanne bit her lip. "She wasn't exactly in the best shape when I found her."
The other three gave her curious looks.
Conner, Ethan, Trent, and Tommy all made their way to the clearing in the forest where the orange ranger was attacking. It was a little odd knowing who it was, especially for Conner since he knew her the best out of the four guys. Tommy didn't know anything about her aside from the fact she was Kira's sister while the other two boys only really knew her for what had passed this semester. When they arrived, Kennedi stood still, looking almost hesitant to attack them but still wanting to do so. Without saying a word, she slipped into a fighting stance, prompting the other rangers to do so as well.
Conner took the lead. "Kennedi, don't do this! We can help you!" She said nothing as she drew her ptera daggers, getting ready to fight.
"Can she even hear us?" Ethan wondered.
"Maybe she's choosing not to speak," Trent suggested. The orange ranger took the distraction as her opening to attack. She began running toward them, fast but not quite ninja streak fast. Tommy was the first one in her line of sight, so he was the first target.
"Not good," the black ranger muttered, diving out of the way only for something to jab into his back and send him stumbling a bit. Before he could retaliate or even find where she was, he found himself being knocked to the ground.
Seeing their mentor on the ground prompted Trent to charge and take a chance. Unfortunately for him, Kennedi was quicker and saw it coming. She was able to knock him down just as Tommy got back up, drawing his brachio staff. Tommy attempted to use it against her, using one of its powers. Kennedi knew what was coming and jumped out of the way, leaving Ethan in the path. Ethan couldn't jump out of the way in time and was hit, falling to the ground.
"Man she's tough," he grumbled.
"Sadly, she's just getting started," Conner realized as Kennedi moved her arms in a circular motion, forming a ball of fire. The four rangers stood together, waiting for the attack to come. Hoping they could block it, they all drew their weapons and got ready to defend themselves. Kennedi launched it high into the air, forcing the rangers to follow it. Conner was the only one who saw the second one coming straight for them. Using his tyranno staff, he managed to deflect and redirect the ball and send it toward her. While he knew it wouldn't harm her, it at least gave them a chance.
"What's she doing now?" Ethan asked as Kennedi's suit fell flat. Then a shadow fell over them. Looking up, the four saw a giant foot descending upon them. They jumped out of the way just in time but hit the ground rather hard. As soon as they stood, Kennedi was ninja streaking by them and knocking them around again.
"Note to self," Trent muttered. "Never piss of a ninja."
Kennedi briefly stopped her attack, giving them a moment to get up. When they were standing, she smirked beneath her helmet and split herself into two, confusing them. Kennedi went after Conner and Tommy while her duplicate took on Trent and Ethan. This confused the four rangers as they realized this was going to be difficult. Conner seemed to know she was pulling out the ninja tricks while the others were a bit confused as to how she could do this.
"Kennedi come on!" Conner blocked a hit with his tyranno staff. "Snap out of it!"
In the lab, Hayley was busy monitoring both the fight and Kira. Based on Kira's movements, the red head was able to come to a conclusion about what had possibly happened to Kennedi in Mesogog's lair. Kira was now lying still, the only movement coming from her being the rise and fall of her chest as she breathed. It was starting to concern the red head that the yellow ranger wasn't waking up yet. From what she could see of the fight, the guys needed Kira's help. Just as she was about to find something that could help them, she heard moving from where Kira was.
"What happened?" Kira groaned, sitting up and placing a hand to her forehead. Hayley stood and walked over to her. "How did I get here?"
"I'll explain later," Hayley sighed, handing her the stone. "Right now, you have a job to do. The guys are already fighting, but they can't do much without you."
"Do they know?" Kira frowned, taking the stone and standing.
"Conner figured it out," Hayley nodded. "Right now, they're trying to hold her off and give you time to get there. It doesn't seem like she's trying to hold back this time."
"Tell the guys I'm on my way," Kira sighed, running out of the lab and morphing in the process.
On the battlefield, Kennedi was proving to be a strong opponent. The boys were already growing tired, wondering when she was going to stop. At the moment, they were still fighting her and her self made clone. While the boys did manage to get a few hits in and block some here and there, Kennedi was still getting more hits on them. No matter what they said to her, she never responded with words. They couldn't seem to get through to her.
Unfortunately for them, she decided she had enough of fighting on the ground. With a swift move that knocked all of them to the ground, she combined back into one being and called upon her zord. While the boys could call upon their own, they struggled to stand. Thankfully, a transmission from Hayley saying she had this issue covered reached their ears. Before they could blink, they saw Kira's zord come flying in, facing Kennedi in hers.
"Ken, please snap out of it!" Kira called out, indicating to the guys she was in the zord. "We can help you!"
To the boys, it appeared as though Kennedi said nothing, but Kira knew what was going on in her sister's head. As they were about to join Kira, they found themselves face to face with Elsa and a horde of tyranodrones. It appeared as though Mesogog and his goons weren't ready to give up just yet.
"Ken, come on!" Kira pleaded once more, seeing the boys were distracted by their own fight. "This isn't you!"
"Do you have it?" Kennedi called back, quiet enough for only Kira to hear.
"Let's leave the zords for now," Kira tried to convince her. "We don't have to fight!" Thankfully for her, Kennedi listened and left the zord, landing on the ground. Kira followed suit. "You know what to do?"
Kennedi nodded and the two set off fighting again. The two knew Kira had to get close enough to fuse the stone to the morpher, but the gem wasn't going to allow it to be that easy. Kira knew that she could do this. It helped that she knew her sister's tricks when it came to fighting and she knew how to defend herself from them.
Kira managed to land a blow and grab hold of her sister's wrist. With another swift move, she took the stone and pressed it into the girl's morpher.
Then they were surrounded by a bright light.
The boys were growing more tired as the fight continued. Elsa and the tyranodrones were not letting up. As usual, Elsa was fighting off Tommy, knowing that the younger boys would be more focused on the tyranodrones. Elsa kept making comments about how Kennedi would be joining their side, but the guys all knew that wasn't true. With Kira now fighting her sister, they were sure she was going to bring the orange ranger back to the side of good.
A flash of light shooting into the sky caught their attention. "No!" Elsa shouted, angry. With a flash of their own, she and the tyranodrones vanished.
"What's going on?" Ethan wondered, confused.
"Come on!" Conner ordered, heading toward the light.
Wasting no time, the four boys ran for the light. They had no idea what it was, but they figured it was better to check it out. They continued running, still morphed in case it was something dangerous. While they doubted it was, they knew they had to do something. By the time they reached the area it was coming from, the light had stopped glowing. Sitting it it's spot was two girls, both familiar to the team, wrapped up in a hug on the ground.
"Did we miss something?" Trent looked to his teammates as Conner was first to drop his morph. The other two teens followed, Tommy knowing he couldn't demorph with them.
No one said anything.
By the time night finally fell, everyone was ready for bed. It had been a long day for everyone and they all just wanted to rest. Kira had taken her sister home as the boys headed back to the lab, hoping Hayley had some answers for them. The red head didn't, but she did assure them that the stone worked and that there were no more evil rangers for them to fight off. When the girls arrived home, they found their uncle there demanding answers. Thankfully their mother wasn't around to hear the story, and by the end of it, Jason was livid. It took Trini to calm him down as the girls went to bed, Kira staying in her sister's room for the night.
"It's good to have you back on our side," Kira commented.
"It feels good to be back," Kennedi agreed. Kira knew it would take a while for her sister to get over this, but she hoped it didn't affect her too much.
"We should probably cover your bruises and stuff," Kira remarked, heading into the bathroom that connected their rooms. "We don't need mom asking about it, and I'm sure you don't want the guys to know about it."
"What exactly do they know?" Kennedi wondered.
"Just that Mesogog held you captive for a while and that you somehow escaped," Kira shrugged. "And that you're now on our side. I think it kind of shocked them when they realized they were fighting you."
Kennedi scoffed. "I'm surprised it took them so long to figure it out."
"Surprisingly, it was Conner who figured it out first," Kira replied. "We should get some rest. Something tells me we're going to have a busy day tomorrow."
A/N: Here's the end of this. Kennedi is officially good. What'll happen now?
