I do do not own or take credit For PLL.
Sara Shepard owns.
As does ABC Family.
"Dad look out!" The sound of screeching tires hurts my ears as he turns the wheel. I look out the window and just see the dog running out of view. I know what's coming next so I close my eyes out of fear. A tear slides down my face and the car tips over. CRASH!
"NO!" I sit up, sweat dripping down my face. I see the sun is fully out and I check the clock. It's ten o'clock.
I shared the bed with Aria, so she jumps up in a panic right beside me. "Jessie." I'm now hyperventilating. "Jessie what's wrong?"
"I..." I take a deep breath, then shake my head. "N-Nothing."
She climbs out of the covers and sits in front of me. She watches me and for a bit she says nothing. "Bad dream?" She finally says. I had my eyes on my fingers. Twisting and pulling on it out of feeling uncomfortable. Then I nod. "What happened?"
"Just." My mind was racing. I really couldn't figure out what to say at first. "The usual." Is all I'm able to think of.
"The accident?" I nod. "Do they every go away?"
I shake my head. "Comes almost every night."
"Always the same?"
I nod. "Always the part where we flip over. Sometimes the dream continues and other times I'm able to wake up." She watches me. "There's been times where it goes all the way to when Mr. Fitz looks into the car."
"That's why it seems like it's harder for you to see him while in class most of the time." I nod. "Have you ever thought of transferring out?"
I shake my head. "I'm not going to let that be the reason to go to a new class. I can handle it."
"You sure?"
I nod. "Positive. Just need a bit more time to get used to it. That's all."
She nods. "If you say so." It gets a bit quiet. "So when's Noel's party?"
"Eight." I rub my sleepy eyes. "You're going right?"
She nods. "Only for an hour or so. Moms opening night for her art gallery is today."
"Oh my God!" I half yell. "I completely forgot."
She smiles. "You don't have to go."
"But I told her I would."
"Then do what I'm doing. Stay for a bit then go to the opening. If you want to head back after then do it. Just make sure you're not drinking."
"You know how much gas I'd be wasting?"
"Oh yea."
"Plus Spence said she'd drive. She's not planning on drinking much."
"That's good." I nod. "Then just stay. Mom will understand."
"I'll feel bad."
"The party was part of your plans before moms opening night was even thought of."
"Well..."
"Jessie come on. Go to that party and have fun. Don't worry about anything else. She'll understand. You really need this, get your mind off of things."
"You need that too."
"Well they aren't my type of people. Plus I'm her daughter. Would look a little bad if I didn't show up."
I nod. "Right."
She watches me for awhile. I was still thinking about the dream. It's really starting to drive me crazy. It was one thing to live it, but it's another to have my dreams haunt me with it. It's as if I keep living it when I close my eyes. I can't handle seeing the look mom gave me before we hit the pavement.
She leans forward and raises my chin. I watch her as she turns my head side to side. "You need to ice up your lip again."
As an impulse I touch it and immediately regret it because it hurt a lot. "Does it look that bad?"
She shakes her head. "Better than yesterday. But still a bit puffy."
I get up and head to her mirror. "Well that's attractive." My face had finally gotten better from my skateboarding accident but the cut was pretty noticeable. It was in fact less swollen than yesterday but it was now a scab so you could clearly see it.
She laughs. "I think it makes you look tough."
"Think it'll keep Amber away?" I turn away from the mirror and sit back on the bed.
She shrugs. "Does it matter?"
"Kind of."
"Don't let her scare you."
"She doesn't scare me. Just on my list of people I'd like to punch in the face."
"Well don't go doing that."
I start to play with the sheets on the bed. Honestly, I would love to hit her. It would probably make her think twice. But then again it may piss her off more than what she already is about me being mean to her brother. So I'm pretty much screwed whether I fight her or not. She will never give me the time of day and leave me alone. That's never been her style and never will be.
After a bit of silence we finally start to get ourselves ready for breakfast. When we head downstairs there's no one around. A note is on the counter in the kitchen.
Had last minute things to do. Dad is at Hollis, will be back around two. Mike is at practice. Money for food is in the usual dresser. Call if you need me.
- Mom
She had an awkward look on her face. I'm not really sure why but ever since the funeral she seems to have her guard up. It's understandable I guess with everything she's been through but she's not the only one. All four of the girls have been like this. I don't know if it's because they found Alison after three years of being missing or something else. But whatever it is they won't share it with me. Not much I can do sadly, but wouldn't mind them coming to me about it.
"You okay?" I decide to ask. She doesn't react right away. "Aria?"
"Hm?" She slowly looks up from the note.
"What's wrong?"
She shakes her head and smiles. "Oh. Nothing. Sorry, I dazed out." She looks back at it though, she had her thinking face on. "Why do you think dad's at the school?"
I found this a bit of a weird question to be asking. "He does work there you know."
She nods. "No I know. But it's Saturday."
"I thought he worked Saturdays."
She shakes her head. "No. He has classes Tuesdays and Fridays."
"Well he's a teacher. There's more to his job than just teaching classes. He's a college professor."
She's quiet for a minute. "Right." She looks back to me and smiles. "Wanna go to The Grill or drive out of town for breakfast?"
I watch her. Her attitude was a bit suspicious. I can't put my finger on it but I'm sure there's something more going on than her just being upset about Ali. I don't know what but I'm nosy enough to figure it out eventually. I look over to the window in the Living Room. I could just make out the neighbors that live in my old house. They are on the porch, but seem to be in an heated argument. I look away and turn to the window in the kitchen. It looks like it's going to be a nice day. The sun was shinning so bright it burned my eyes a bit. There was a bird on the sill, chirping away.
"Jessie?" I look at her. "The Grill or..."
"I'm in the mood to go for a drive." I say.
She nods. "Road trip it is."
I half laugh and nod. Then we head upstairs and get ready.
