Double Act
Chapter 30: Strange Relations
A/N: Last time, the rangers fought off a monster obsessed with volcanoes, which turned out to be a good thing for Kennedi as she could use her powers to fight him. Ethan was in a video game competition, in which he lost to someone they least expected to be his opponent. Now, with things becoming more intense, what could possibly happen? Especially when Trent and Kennedi have to fight off their clones for good?
Also, this chapter may be a bit short.
Okay, so my first year of college is over in a couple of weeks (includes finals) and I have a very big project due next week, so hopefully I will be back to updating things sooner. I know it's been a while since I started this story and I did not intend to make it go as long as it has (time wise, since I first posted this in 2013). Thank you for your patience.
Also, did anyone see last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy and is anyone else heartbroken over it?
Disclaimer: I only own things not originally in the show.
It was just another average day for the rangers. Everyone was off doing their own thing, glad it was the weekend and that they could rest and relax for a while. So far, nothing new had come up. While they still had to deal with Mesogog's threats, it seemed as if they were calming down a bit. The evil ranger clones hadn't made another appearance yet, something they were glad about. Conner and Kira were still waiting for the chance to kill the white ranger clone, but the orange ranger clone was a mystery. Kennedi knew her clone wasn't there when she was in Mesogog's lair, so she figured her clone was created after that visit.
At the moment, most of them were in the café. Trent was at his house, spending some time with his dad for the day. Ethan, as usual, was playing a video game on his laptop. At least, he was until a video chat interrupted him. The cloned rangers appeared on his screen. "Hello, blue ranger," they greeted.
"Okay, maybe I have been sitting too close to the screen," Ethan muttered. "Trent, Ken, is that you?"
"Don't insult us," Orange snapped. "We are the one and only true white and orange rangers."
"Guys," Ethan called his teammates over. "You gotta see this!" The other three rangers circled around him, watching the video feed.
"We have a challenge for you and your ranger friends," White continued. "Meet me at the seaside for our final battle."
"And what if we have something better to do?" Conner snarled.
Orange appeared to be smirking behind her helmet. "Then the consequences will be on your head."
"Dude's never heard of email?" Ethan scoffed.
"You guys gotta go without me," Kennedi sighed. "I have a meeting with Sensei, one I can't miss."
"What about Trent, then?" Kira added. "He went to see his dad."
Conner shrugged. "We can take these guys ourselves."
"Well, I vote for bringing in Dr. O for a little back up," Ethan stated.
"Come out come out wherever you are," Conner called as the team arrived on the beach. The only rangers missing were Trent and Kennedi, both for different reasons. Kennedi couldn't miss the meeting with her Sensei, which they understood. They put their raptor cycles in park and got off.
"Are you sure this is where we're supposed to meet them?" Tommy questioned, looking around. They didn't see anything. However, they knew something was there when a blur of white and orange streaked by, cutting them down.
"Miss me?" the two clones taunted as the rangers stood and faced them.
"Do you really have to ask?" Kira returned.
"Where are the white and orange rangers?" Orange hissed, noting they were absent.
Conner did a quick headcount. "Four against two – I don't see why you'd want to make it six."
Both rangers drew their weapons and aimed, firing.
After the battle, the rangers who fought in it found themselves in the dino lab. The battle had not gone over well for either side. During the fight, the two cloned rangers appeared to be struggling with something, considering they didn't have the power to control their zords anymore. When the zord fight was over, the clones were struggling to stand on their feet, something that concerned the other rangers as they hadn't noticed this before.
"I was afraid this would happen," Hayley sighed as she ran scans. "The dino gems can't sustain being cloned. The energies have to be contained by one ranger."
"If anyone's taking votes, mine's on Ken and Trent," Ethan added.
"We need to contact them," Tommy told the redhead. Unfortunately, the monitors beeped, showing the latest monster. "Like that wasn't going to happen. Hayley, you call Trent and Kennedi. Come on, guys."
Kennedi finished the meeting with her Sensei. It was something she did not expect and she was trying to wrap her mind around it. According to her Sensei, the Abyss of Evil was starting to reopen. If she was right, then that meant anything inside it could escape. At the moment, that was the last thing any of them needed. As she entered the woods again, losing sight of the academy's entrance, she found herself doubled over in pain, nearly hitting the ground. Her first thought was that it had something to do with her pregnancy, but then she caught sight of her morpher freaking out. When she was able to stand and move again, her communicator beeped.
"Kennedi, are you okay?" Hayley asked.
"Yeah, I think so," she breathed. "Something weird's going on. My dino gem is freaking out."
"I think you should come back here right away," Hayley replied.
"Sounds good," Kennedi nodded, disconnecting the line. With that done, she began to make her way back to the dino lab.
Before she could, however, she felt herself being knocked down. Getting up, she spotted her clone. "Not so fast. I'm tired of living in your shadow. After this, there will only be one orange ranger."
"I got no problem with that," Kennedi snarled, calling her morpher. "Orange ranger, dino power!"
"Super dino mode!" her opponent cried.
Then Orange charged her, getting the fight underway. Punches and kicks were thrown in all directions, both of them trying to land a hit on their opponent. Kennedi wasn't willing to do much aside from making sure that she survived. If she died in this fight, then she wouldn't be able to do anything. Her sister would no doubt kill her clone if that happened. Orange managed to strike Kennedi down briefly. The girl stood back up and charged, hoping to get a hit in.
To help her out, Kennedi drew her daggers and began fighting with those. She wanted to refrain from using ninja tricks at the moment, unwilling to see if her clone was able to do the same. While she doubted her clone was capable of pulling ninja tricks, it wasn't unlikely. The two continued clashing for some time until Orange managed to knock Kennedi down. Their fight had been taken back toward the waterfall that disguised the academy's entrance.
"You can feel it too, can't you?" Orange questioned. "Only one of us will survive!"
"I guess it's gonna come down to who wants it more!" Kennedi huffed, getting to her feet. Orange doubled over in pain, suit sparking violently. "Now who's feeling it?"
"You wish!" Orange stood and charged once more.
Kennedi seemed to find that things were easier for her this time around. She wasn't going to waste anything she knew about fighting. Apparently, Orange had the same idea. Thoughts of Trent possibly going through the same thing entered her mind. If she was fighting off her clone, it was likely that Trent and his clone were doing the same because they were in the same deal with the dino gems. With a strong kick, she sent Orange flying into a tree and crashing into the ground.
"Get up," Kennedi ordered.
"You fight with honor, Kennedi Ford," Orange slowly rose to her feet.
"How can you talk about honor when you don't even have a soul?" Kennedi narrowed her eyes.
"I don't need a soul," Orange growled. "Thanks for reminding me!"
Orange flew at her, knocking her down for a moment. Kennedi kicked her opponent off of her before jumping back to her feet. Their fight resumed, Kennedi feeling more energy flow through her as it progressed. She had yet to go into super dino mode like her opponent did, but she was the only one of them using their weapons. The dirty blonde managed to get a good hit on Orange, sending the clone to the ground.
The two stood far apart, but still close enough to attack. With snarls, they charged each other, Orange making the first move. Both moved to slice each other down, one landing their hit more effectively than the other one. Kennedi, while feeling slightly hurt, felt completely fine otherwise. Her clone turned to face her, stumbling in her movements.
"I guess you wanted it more," Orange commented. "Goodbye, orange ranger." Orange fell flat on her face, suit sparking as it began disappearing. As soon as her face hit the ground, an explosion of energy destroyed her, forming in the air before vanishing. A small crater was left in its wake.
Kennedi found herself breathing heavily after that.
The other dino rangers were not doing so well in the fight against the Jade Gladiator. They had managed to use Trent and Kennedi's zords to help them fight off two of the monsters that had been brought back to life, so that was a good thing. However, the main threat was still an issue. At the moment, the rangers had been knocked out of the zords and landed on the ground, demorphed. Conner, being the first to stand, began helping the others up.
"How are we gonna defeat this thing?" he huffed.
"Guys, look," Ethan turned his head to the side, hearing the crunching of leaves. Walking into view was a white ranger.
"But which one is it?" Kira wondered. The white ranger got closer before stopping his movement. "Trent?"
Grinning, the boy dropped his morph. "Who were you guys expecting?" They all moved closer to him, happy to see he survived his fight.
"Wait, what about Ken?" Kira asked.
"No idea," Trent shrugged. "Haven't seen her all day."
"Incoming!" a voice yelled. Kira, recognizing it, did not react. The boys, however, were startled as they saw an orange ranger plummeting down from the trees. She dropped her morph to reveal Kennedi, who landed on her feet in front of them. "So, what I'd miss?"
"You're alive!" Kira hugged her, happy to see her sister survived the fight.
"Kira, you would've been first to know if I was dead," Kennedi chuckled.
Tommy interrupted. "Good timing you two. You guys ready to do this?"
After a rather epic fight where all the zords combined to form one megazord, the rangers found themselves back at the café, enjoying a well needed rest. Trent was relaxing at the counter and talking to his dad, who had come in to talk to him. The others had decided to sit on the couches and listen to Kennedi's story of how she defeated her clone. The boys seemed more into it than Kira did, the yellow ranger's sisterly instincts kicking in every so often throughout it.
"So what did your sensei want to talk to you about anyway?" Ethan wondered once the girl finished.
"Nothing too important," Kennedi shrugged. Conner and Kira picked up on the lie. "Apparently I forgot to turn in a couple papers regarding some students, and she just wanted to know when I'd have them in by."
"Ninjas have to write papers?" Conner raised an eyebrow, going along with the story.
"Just teachers," Kennedi answered. "And it's progress reports. It's really a way for us to see who needs more help in certain areas."
Kira decided to change the subject. "Anyone want to come watch our game tonight?"
A/N: What'd you think? Up next is the team up with the ninjas!
