Hey everyone! Long time, no update! If you've by any chance read the updates section of my profile in the past week then you would know that I've been writing chapters over the past few weeks, and am now up to six. So, I thought it would be a good idea to release them once a week from now on, which means you should get at least one episode every week for the next six weeks! I'm having a lot of fun writing this at the moment, especially when I have no clue what I'm writing for the next chapter. Also, I will apologise (sorry), but I'm not going to make up any excuses this time for me leaving! I hope to be around for good, or at least for a little while this time rather than just for two chapters. Enough rambling, and let's get on with the episode!

Ep 4: Bring it on, Viola!

"Alright Fennekin, finish this with Ember!" Bree commanded like her life depended on it. Fennekin pounced into the air and shot out a wave of fiery ashes towards the injured Vivillon. It was a direct hit, and Vivillon was thrown back onto the floor sending up a cloud of smoke and dust. It covered the entire battlefield. The smoke reminded me of the smoke I had seen earlier that week, when the Santalune Gym went up in flames.

"Tyler, before you go," Viola said to me as I was about to leave Santalune. "I know my gym won't be ready by the time you get back but I would still like to battle you. I'll tell you what, when you return with your starter Pokemon and at least one other, I have a special place along Route 22 where we can battle."

"Cool. I'll see you then," I replied to the woman as I turned around and walked off. I knew that's what my brother wouldn't do, he'd say something like; "Awesome! I'll see you as soon as I get my Pokemon!" and then run off. But we were two pieces of a completely different puzzle. I needed to understand that and stop comparing myself with others.

EARLIER THIS DAY…

"Welcome back Tyler!" Viola welcomed me at the Pokemon Centre as we came down the stairs from the rooms.

"Thanks."

"And, I see you've made some friends," she smiled as she pointed to Bree and Kevin. After some quick introductions we got on with the matter of business, the gym battles. "Come with me, I have the perfect spot for our battles."

"How much further…?" Kevin whined as we walked through a slightly-dense forest.

"Almost," Viola told him for the about 100th time. But this time was true. A clearing was ahead, and as we stepped closer we realised it wasn't a clearing at all, it was a giant hole. "Welcome to the Chamber of Emptiness."

"Wow…" We all murmured as we took in the beautiful sight. There was a large waterfall, a nice still river and beautiful flower patches. Plus what looked to be an entrance into a dark cave.

"So, which one of you will be the first to challenge me?" Viola questioned the three of us.

"Me!" Kevin shouted as he ran forward.

"Alright then!" Viola screamed as she slid down the side of the not very steep cliff. She reached the bottom and pulled a pokeball out. "Surskit, I choose you!"

10 MINUTES LATER…

"Froakie, finish this with Bubble!" Kevin roared as Froakie jumped high into the air before firing a stream of damaging bubbles onto Viola's Skorupi. Skorupi fell flat on its face and became unconscious.

"Well, that's it," Viola sighed. She went over to her Skorupi and patted it on the head. "You did great Skorupi." Viola returned it back to its pokeball and started to walk over to Kevin. "Well done!"

"Yeah, great job Kevin!" Bree proclaimed.

"Thanks, guys," he chuckled. Viola then went into her pocket and fetched something before making a fist.

"I award you, the Bug Badge!" Viola said with a wide smile and glistening eyes. Kevin's face lit up too as he hugged his first ever badge, and just a few days into his journey. He was a natural, and would definitely be tough to beat! "Well I only have two more Pokemon on me so I can battle one of you, but the other will have to wait until tomorrow." Bree and I looked at each other awkwardly.

"Ladies first," I insisted. She giggled and then dashed over to the makeshift battlefield. "Come out Chespin!" I threw my Chespin's pokeball into the air and out popped the cutest Pokemon on the planet. "Now Chespin, I want you to study this battle!"

"Ches!" he assured me.

AND NOW…

"Alright Fennekin, finish this with Ember!" Bree commanded like her life depended on it. Fennekin pounced into the air and shot out a wave of fiery ashes towards the injured Vivillon. It was a direct hit, and Vivillon was thrown back onto the floor sending up a cloud of smoke and dust. It covered the entire battlefield. The smoke reminded me of the smoke I had seen earlier that week, when the Santalune Gym went up in flames.

"Lon…" the fainted Pokemon murmured in pain.

"Wow, this really isn't my day is it," Viola chuckled. She looked down but then quickly back up with that beautiful smile. "But that's ok!" She got the same badge out as before and handed it to Bree. "You took me down with your Fennekin alone. You had type advantage, but your skill is off the charts! Those two boys better watch out for you!" Bree turned to the two of us and I softly smiled back. I was happy for her, yet, nervous. What if I failed to beat Viola? I would not only be the odd one out, but the weakest of the group, and the weak one always gets left behind…

"This battle will be between Viola and Tyler!" Kevin proclaimed. "It is a two on two battle and only the challenger may substitute Pokemon! So, let the battle begin!"

"Strongest first! Fletchling, I choose you," I said with a quick flick of the hand to let my Fletchling out.

"Heracross, unleash your power!" Viola screamed as she violently threw the pokeball. Our two Pokemon made their entrances, but I was confused as to why she released a Bug and Fighting-Type to my Flying-Type Pokemon, since now I have a major advantage. All I know is that I can't underestimate Viola.

"Fletchling, use Quick Attack," I started off soft and unconfident as I was still unsure of Viola's Heracross intentions.

"Heracross, dodge and use Horn Attack!" Viola commanded. Heracross' speed was unbelievable as he dodged with ease before racing up behind Fletchling, his horn glowing red, and using a powerful Horn Attack!

"Ling…!" Fletchling screeched as she hit the ground. But I knew Fletchling and she quickly got back up and was angrier than ever, rearing to attack.

"Aerial Ace!" I shouted with confidence that time, and Fletchling - almost as quickly as Heracross used that Horn Attack - zipped forward with streaks of wind flowing around her. I thought it was going to be a clean hit but Viola was just too quick.

"Counter!" Suddenly Heracross was enveloped in a bright red light just as Fletchling hit him, but he seemed to be unaffected and sent Fletchling back across the grass; and it looked like it hurt!

"Fletchling…" I muttered as I saw my Pokemon struggling to get back up. I started to think of a way to counter the Counter, but it seemed impossible; all of Fletchling's attacks were physical, and Heracross could use Counter and hurt us on every single one of them. We needed a way to stop Heracross from using that attack… " Fletchling, use Quick Attack all around Heracross!" I knew what I would do, I would confuse him!

"Fletch!" Fletchling chirped as she flew rapidly around Heracross, making him turn, turn and turn some more, leaving him dazed. I saw Viola also had her teeth clenched as she saw her Heracross becoming confused.

"Use Pin Missile and shoot Fletchling out of the sky!" she commanded. Heracross reared back, before firing skinny white missiles into the air.

"Now's our chance! Use Aerial Ace!" Fletchling stopped the Quick Attack and immediately dove towards Heracross, avoiding all of the randomly fired Pin Missiles as she did so. SLAM! Heracross was sent flying back towards Viola with one hell of an Aerial Ace, causing it serious damage!

"Heracross, get up and use Horn Attack!" With no time to waste he was back up and charging furiously at Fletchling with his power-packed horn.

"Counter it with Peck!" Fletchling's beak grew and glistened, before she charged straight towards Heracross. The two attacks collided, but neither Pokemon was giving an inch. BOOM! Both Pokemon were hurdled back across the battlefield and one quickly fainted.

"Fletchling is unable to battle!" Kevin shouted.

"Good work Fletchling, return," I said to her as she was zapped into her pokeball. I stood there stone faced, looking at Viola. She was tough, and I mean really tough. This was the first time her Heracross battled any of us and oh boy was it tough! Now I only have Chespin left. But, this battle looks like it will soon be over anyway, as long as that Heracross is around.

"Chespin, I choose you!" Chespin's pokeball flicked out of my hands and out popped my funky little friend, with a lot of energy and a big heart. I was waiting for Viola to call the first attack but she just stood there, and I know she wanted me to perform a physical attack so she could just use Counter, but luckily, Chespin has a special move. "Vine Whip!"

"Pin!" Chespin jumped into the air before releasing two vines which surged towards Heracross. Viola seemed to be caught off guard, but she always has a counter move.

"Aerial Ace!" I gasped in shock as I wasn't expecting that from Heracross. He dove straight into the vines and smashed through them with ease, surging towards Chespin.

"Quickly, use Rollout Chespin!" I ordered. Chespin retracted its vines and curled up into a ball where he then started to spin and charge down at Heracross. The two Pokemon collided but since Chespin was attacking from above it overpowered Heracross and sent him plummeting into the ground. But the great thing about Rollout is that it keeps on going!

"Heracross, quickly use Horn Attack on Chespin!" Viola desperately shouted as Chespin was about to hit Heracross and end it all. Heracross started to charge up his horn but Chespin was too fast and slammed into Heracross. He slid back towards Viola, and looked as though he was out for the count, but this Heracross was something special, and it got right back up, and even though it struggled to do so it did it for Viola. They had some magical bond, and were formidable opponents.

"Ches!" Chespin screamed as he kept on rolling and turned around to come back for another fowl sweep at Heracross.

"That's it!" Viola shouted. "Counter!" Heracross' body shone bright red again as Chespin stampeded towards them but then, all there was was BOOM! Both Pokemon were hurled back, similar to the last big explosion that knocked out Fletchling. But this time, my Pokemon wasn't the one that fainted.

"Heracross is unable to battle!" Kevin announced.

"Return!" Viola told her Pokemon. She looked down to the pokeball and smiled. "You were brilliant."

"Yay, Chespin we did it!" I screamed with excitement and high-fived Chespin.

"You still have to defeat my last Pokemon, boys," Viola reminded us. Chespin ran back out onto the battlefield and looked ready to battle! "And, it's my first ever Pokemon too. Remember Vivillon?" Her pokeball was thrown high into the air and her pink Vivillon was sent out. I sighed as I remember that Vivillon was a tough opponent too.

"Lon!" Vivillon screeched towards us. This was going to be my biggest challenge yet, but somehow I was smiling. I had never battled like this; so fiercely, I see why Pokemon trainers love battling. I get it now!

"Chespin, let's do our very best, win or lose!" I chanted with a fist into the air. For the first time on my journey, or even before my journey, I was excited about Pokemon battling, win or lose. "Use Tackle!" Chespin jumped high into the air, and then dove down towards Vivillon, head first with a plethora of power.

"Psybeam!" Viola exclaimed to her Vivillon. Vivillon flapped her wings back and sent out a rainbow beam of beauty and power, but when it hit Chespin, he didn't even seemed fazed and kept charging down towards Vivillon. I saw Viola gasp and it seemed as though she and her Pokemon were caught off guard. SLAM! Vivillon hit the ground and Chespin jumped back to my side. He seemed to be panting, as even though he seemed unfazed by the Psybeam, I know it took a lot of his energy. We would have to end this quickly.

"Vine Whip!" Chespin whipped out two lush green vines and sent them raging towards Vivillon. But Viola, that Bug-Type master, countered it.

"Gust!"

"Vivi-Lon-Lon-Lon!" Vivillon howled as she flapped her delicate wings as hard as she could, which created quite the winds, blowing back Vine Whip to hit Chespin!

"Now use Poison Powder!" Viola commanded. Vivillon flew over towards Chespin and started to twirl, releasing an array of purple powder.

"Use Rollout to hide!" Chespin curled up and started to spin, making the Poison Powder ineffective on him, but it seemed as though I had walked right into Viola's trap.

"Draining Kiss!" I stood there frozen, not knowing what to do because I've never heard of that attack before! Vivillon flew back slightly, before kissing out into the air which created a pink ball that penetrated Chespin's Rollout barrier and inflicted damage onto him. Vivillon seemed to be getting healed from the attack as Chespin's energy was being taken away. "Now Psybeam!"

"Use Tackle!" But I was too late as the rainbow beam slammed against Chespin's body, making him collapse. We all watched Chespin struggling to get back up; his little arms and legs shaking as he was pushing himself up. All I wanted was him to just give up, his health wasn't worth the Bug Badge, and so, he did.

"Chespin is unable to battle! Viola's the winner!" Kevin declared as I walked over to my cute Nut Pokemon.

"You did the best you could, and I'm so proud of you for that," I smiled down to Chespin. I returned him to his pokeball and walked over to Viola. "Wow are you strong!"

"Thanks, I brought out my best for you," she giggled with a wink. For some reason I wasn't upset that I lost, because it was a great battle, and I was battling with a friend. "Train some more, and come meet me for a rematch. I'm sure things will turn out differently next time."

"Hehe, yeah," I agreed with a wide grin. We strolled back to Santalune City, no rush, just some youth and a young adult getting along in harmony…

"No, please, I insist," I told Kevin and Bree whilst they had very unsure looks.

"We can't just leave you!" she insisted with teary eyes. I hugged her and shook Kevin's hand before talking again.

"I need to stay here and train, finally beat Viola. I could be here weeks, months; I'll be here as long as it takes. So please, carry on with your journey. We'll catch up soon, I promise!"

"Pin!" Chespin agreed.

"Fen/Fro…" Fennekin and Froakie sighed as they were also having to say goodbye to their friend.

"I get where your coming from dude, I would feel the same. But only if this is what you want, k? Otherwise speak up…" Kevin hinted with that joking look in his eye.

"Go!" I screamed playfully. "I'll be fine. And hey, I'll definitely catch up to you guys so don't think you're leaving me behind!" Chespin jumped up onto my shoulder at that point and sleepily sighed. "If you leave now you might make it to Lumiose by dinner time!"

"He's right Bree, we should leave now."

"Fine, but stay safe!" she told me. "We'll see you soon Ty!"

"Later!" Kevin added as they walked out of the Pokemon centre doors. I smiled. My journey, began now!

NEXT EPISODE – TIMID

Well, what did you think? I don't know about you guys, but I thought that was a pretty exciting gym battle, considering how early it is. I know that this is similar to the anime, the whole losing to Viola, but literally as soon as I started to play through Pokemon Y, I knew that I wanted my new character to lose to Viola. I'm not really going to give anything away about next chapter, so I'll sign off here! But before I do that, I need to do Pokemon Listings, which I've forgotten to do thus far in the story:

Tyler:

Chespin: Lv.10 (m) – Tackle, Vine Whip, Rollout

Fletchling: Lv.11 (f) – Quick Attack, Peck, Aerial Ace

Until Next Time – MonfernoFreak
