Hey all! Sorry that this episode is up a little late today; was out most of today. So for those of you who like El Torro's stories; this will be his main character's debut! Yes, Owen will be meeting Tyler in this chapter! But for those of you who do not want to be spoiled on some of the Pokemon on Owen's team, then do NOT read this chapter! Otherwise, read away…

Ep 6: Meeting Owen!

"Froakie, focus your Bubble on one spot!" I commanded the Pokemon who was still struggling to battle or perform attacks. Froakie looked at Fletchling directly and seemed to try and focus on her but he quickly flinched and his Bubble attack started to fly everywhere.

"Ahh!" I heard a scream from nearby. Froakie immediately stopped attacking and I turned around to see a boy and his Froakie being struck by the Bubble.

"Oh my, I'm so sorry," I told the boy and ran over to him.

"Whoa, that's some crazy Bubble," he said as he tried to shake off the attack. "But powerful!" I laughed a little as I looked down at Froakie and just smiled. He was truly a Pokemon like no other.

"Froakie is sort of just getting back into battling and is trying to get his confidence up, we're kind of struggling," I explained to the boy who looked to be in his mid-teens. The teen had buzzed dark blonde hair and shimmering amber eyes, and a face that seemed very familiar.

"Hey, my Froakie is pretty good at using Bubble, would you like us to help teach you?" he asked. I suddenly felt a smile cross my face and I saw Froakie look extremely happy too – which was a first – which I assume is because he got to work with another Froakie.

"Oh yeah, by the way, my name's Tyler," I added.

"Owen Plateau's my name," he said with a smirk. I gasped in shock as I all of a sudden remembered who he was.

"Wow, I've seen you in all of your leagues! You've done really well for yourself; and Top 2 in the Sinnoh League? You deserved to win over that Taylor kid. He treated his Pokemon terribly, and that's not how they should be raised! They should be raised kind-heartedly and with care and respect," I lectured. He seemed taken aback by my not usually big personality; I guess I was... star struck? I don't know, but I realised Owen had out of the blue started to frown and become quiet and I realised that losing the Sinnoh League must've been a sensitive subject.

"No need to get down about it!" he suddenly piped up and shouted. "Froakie, display your Bubble!" His Froakie jumped into the air, much quicker than my Froakie could, and fired out bubbles, but all seemed to be clustered quite close to directly hit a target. It looked great, even better than Kevin's Froakie's Bubble, and I thought that was top notch! "Not too shabby, eh?"

"That was great! Froakie, start following Owen's Froakie's instructions and use Bubble," I told him. Froakie started to explain what to do to my Froakie and then he jumped into the air, but as usual, the Bubble started to spray out and pushed Froakie down onto the ground as bubbles filled the air.

"Beautiful, a good contest move but not for battling," he laughed. I stayed straight face and looked at Froakie. Oh how I wish I could just make Froakie all better, it pained me seeing him like this…

"So why are you in Kalos?" I questioned the older teen after a day of long training with no success. Froakie seemed to have gotten less confident over more confident today as we were pretty much watching him fail for hours.

"New region, new league, new challenge. How about you? I assume you're just starting out on your journey?"

"Yeah, I was born in Santalune City but live in Lumiose. I started out a couple weeks ago with this Chespin, and quickly caught Fletchling," I explained, reminding him of my Pokemon he saw earlier.

"And Froakie?" He looked at me puzzled, knowing there was a story behind him.

"I caught him two days ago. Well, less caught him and more found him. I was out here training after my loss at the Santalune Gym and heard a trainer yelling so I followed the voice back, and I saw he was yelling at this Froakie. He basically called him useless, pathetic, and then abandoned him on the spot. He dropped the pokeball and I felt so sorry for the Pokemon, he was crying and all, so I picked up his pokeball and I've been trying to raise his confidence and his ability to battle ever since…"

"Abandoned Pokemon, they're tough to work with. But what's worse is the trainer that actually abandoned them!" he roared with anger in his eyes. We both sat silently for a while before Owen piped up. "C'mon, it's getting late. Let's go back to the Pokemon Centre."

"Tyler!" Owen shouted over towards me as I sat in the Pokemon Centre eating breakfast. I turned and saw the boy running towards me with a wide smile. "Let's have a battle!"

"What?" I questioned him, puzzled.

"C'mon, I was thinking about it last night and maybe that bit of pressure is what Froakie needs!" I was unsure of Owen's tactics, throwing Froakie straight into battling a powerful training may not have been my remedy but Owen was an experienced Pokemon trainer, so I decided to trust him. And hey, we needed to practice against other people because training alone wasn't much fun. And that's how I found myself on the battlefield outside the Pokemon Centre with Chespin by my side, facing off against Owen's Froakie in an all-out 3 vs. 3 match.

"Chespin, use Leech Seed!" I quickly commanded, thinking about the future of our battle.

"Froakie, use Quick Attack to dodge and then strike Chespin with it!" Froakie zipped forward and avoiding the barrage of seeds appearing from all around Chespin. He then changed trajectory and went straight towards Chespin.

"Use Vine Whip to stop it!" I quickly countered.

"Pin!" Chespin's vines speedily struck Froakie, stopping the Quick Attack before Chespin sent him back flying. Froakie slid against the ground and I realised this was the perfect time to make a move. "Leech Seed one more time!" Chespin span and unleashed dozens of seeds that hit Froakie, before small vines came from outside of them and wrapped around Froakie. They dug into him and you could see he was being hurt from them.

"Froakie, get out of those vines!" Owen told his Froakie. The small frog Pokemon pulled and pulled on the vines, trying to get them off but with no luck… "Just ignore them then! Bubble!" Froakie took his attention to Chespin now and fired glistening bubbles at Chespin, and since I was too dumb to call a command, he was hit.

"Chespin, get back up and use Tackle!" Chespin stood back up proud, and then charged straight towards Froakie.

"Use Quick Attack to counter!" Froakie sped straight towards Chespin and they collided, matching in power. I smirked because Owen fell right into my trap.

"Now that you're in close wrap up Froakie with Vine Whip!" I ordered.

"Froakie, use Pound to swat him away!" Owen called in desperation, but he wasn't quick enough. Chespin wrapped Froakie in yet another layer of vines, which caused him double damage! I saw that Owen was stuck, as he had a puzzled look on his face.

"Now, finish this with-"

"Froakie, use Lick!" Owen exclaimed. This time I was caught off guard as I wasn't expecting that.

"Fro!" Froakie croaked. He opened his mouth wide and started to lick Chespin!

"Ahh, Chespin…?" I questioned confused at the strange attack. Chespin's vines retracted and he stood there, paralyzed!

"Now use Pound!" Froakie's fist turned white as he unleashed a ferocious Pound on Chespin, which sent him soaring into the air.

"Chespin use Rollout!" I countered. Chespin was frozen for a second, but I could see in his eyes that he wanted to win this battle for me, so he started to rapidly roll in mid-air, which made him come roaring down onto Froakie.

"No!" I heard Owen call as the two Pokemon collided. The dust cleared and Froakie was laying down on the ground, but he wasn't out. Owen and I both stared down at the Pokemon as his little arms were shaking violently. "C'mon Froakie… You've pulled through for me before, pull through again…" Froakie got up, and Owen had a wide smile on his face. Just as he was about to call an attack though, suddenly Froakie was hurt by the Leech Seed and he fell to the ground, unable to battle. Owen stared down to his Pokemon in shock, but got out his pokeball and returned him. "You fought bravely Froakie…" He then looked straight at me, fire in his eyes again, and reached for another pokeball. "Butterfree, let's show 'em how it's done!" A pokeball burst and a moth-type butterfly flew out. I had heard about Butterfree before but never seen one up close. Bug and Flying-Type, so this time Owen was playing by type advantage.

"Chespin, Leech Seed!" I called straight of the back.

"Gust!" Chespin fired out his seeds but were sent straight back at him with Butterfree's powerful Gust. I have to say I was not expecting that type of power from a Bug-Type! The seeds hit Chespin and he was wrapped in his own Leech Seed! He wouldn't get hurt by it but it would slow him down in battle…

"Chespin, use Rollout to get rid of those vines!" I commanded. Chespin was about to start rolling but was struck with the paralysis from before!

"Now Butterfree, use Confusion!" Owen shouted. Butterfree's eyes went blue and she picked up Chespin before throwing him straight into the ground. Dust went everywhere but as it cleared, Chespin was still standing, weak, but standing.

"Chespin return!" I called as I returned Chespin into his pokeball. "You fought hard!" I looked straight down and closed my eyes, thinking of my next move. It seemed obvious, didn't it? "Air battle! Fletchling, let's go!" I roared as I looked up and threw her pokeball. Fletchling emerged in a shimmering light and looked ready to battle. "Aerial Ace!"

"Ling!" Fletchling chirped as she came surging towards Butterfree at rocket speed.

"Confusion!" Butterfree performed the same way she did before and stopped Fletchling mid-air, making her virtually useless. "Now Butterfree, use Poison Power!" Owen grinned as Butterfree started to flap her wings, sending out a toxic dust at Fletchling. I couldn't do anything, I just had to watch. But at the last second.

"Use Quick Attack to get away!" I yelled as the Poison Powder was getting close to Fletchling. Fletchling was trying with all her power to use Quick Attack and get away, you could visibly see the blue waves around her quivering. BAM! The force field broke and Fletchling zipped away, avoiding the Poison Powder. I smiled as Owen clenched his teeth. "Now come back around with that Quick Attack and hit Butterfree!" SLAM! In literal seconds Fletchling had hit Butterfree and she was sent flying back through the air towards Owen. "Now Peck!" Fletchling's beak grew as she flew towards Butterfree.

"Dodge it!" Owen commanded and Butterfree dodged with grace and ease, like she was a natural born performer. "Now, use Sleep Powder!" Butterfree flapped her wings and sent out a blue dust right above Fletchling. She was trapped so was affected by the attack.

"Fletchling!" I gasped as she was out cold on the battlefield. Now I just had to watch Owen call attack after attack onto my sleeping Pokemon. Confusion! Gust! Confusion! "C'mon Fletchling!" I roared and suddenly my Pokemon woke up and shot into the air, wings stretched out and ready to battle. I saw that she was very weak and another attack would end it for her. "Ok Aerial Ace!" Fletchling started to fly and made wind ripple around her very presence.

"Use Gust!" Owen called. Butterfree flapped her powerful wings and started to slow us down, a lot! Fletchling was barely moving, but we weren't going to let some wind take us down.

"Spin!" Fletchling started to spin violently which not only made her attack more powerful but got us through the wind!

"Free!" Butterfree cried as she dropped to the ground. They both looked weak and if either of them took another attack it would all be over.

"Quick Attack!"

"Use Confusion but turn it into a beam!" Fletchling flapped her wings and started to surge forward at a rapid pace while Butterfree's eyes were blue, powering up for the beam. Then, all of a sudden, the beam was unleashed in a raw, blue powered goodness. Fletchling and the confusion collided and a massive explosion was created. It covered the entire battlefield and enveloped both of us. But it quickly cleared and revealed our Pokemon's fates.

"Return!" we both declared as they both fainted. We both told our Pokemon how great they were and got out another pokeball.

"Froakie, let's go!" I threw Froakie's pokeball into the air and he was unleashed into the battle. He looked nervous and was slouching, not at all confident like Owen's Froakie.

"Pikachu, zap 'em!"

"Pika-chu!" a cute little yellow mouse Pokemon squealed. I'd seen many Pikachu before as they live largely in Santalune Forest. I was at a clear disadvantage but I believed in Froakie. He wasn't so confident though.

"Alright Froakie, try to use Bubble," I told him softly and I didn't want him to get scared from the heat of battle. Froakie looked back at me and then at Owen and Pikachu. He seemed to get scared and run away from them.

"Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!" Owen commanded Froakie, but I heard him whisper after; "…lightly…". Pikachu let out a small jolt of electricity towards Froakie and he got so scared that he ran away.

"Froakie, use your Quick Attack!" Froakie looked at me and started to run aimlessly towards Pikachu, eyes closed. He lightly hit Pikachu but it certainly wasn't a Quick Attack. He opened his eyes and saw Pikachu, running away from him. Pikachu sighed as he saw Froakie.

"Let's see if we can knock some sense into Froakie! Electro Ball!" Pikachu gathered a ball of electricity in his tail before whipping it around at Froakie. Froakie saw the attack and stood still, watching it coming towards him. BAM! Froakie was sent back against the wall where he slowly got up, tears in his eyes.

"Froakie use, ah, what are your other attacks?" I questioned. Owen sweat dropped and looked at me like I was an idiot.

"You can check your Pokemon's attacks with your Pokedex," he explained.

"Oh…" I got out my Pokedex and started to scan Froakie.

"Froakie's attacks: Bubble, Quick Attack, Water Pulse and Acrobatics."

"Woa, those are some sick moves Froakie!" I proclaimed. "Alright then, use Water Pulse!" Froakie started to gather water in his palms and I was surprised he was actually attacking! "You go Froakie!" But, as soon as I said that, Froakie's Water Pulse popped on him and sent a wave of water over himself, pushing him back.

"Pikachu, use Quick Attack!" Owen screamed.

"Froakie, I know you can use your Acrobatics," I assured him. Froakie looked up at me and then started to run aimlessly at Pikachu again, but this time waving his arms everywhere. I saw him open his eyes this time which I thought was a good sign, but as soon as he saw Pikachu he started to run away, and it wasn't long before he was pounded by the Quick Attack. "Froakie, use your Bubble, and do it just the way Owen's Froakie taught you."

"Kie!" Froakie shrieked as he fired his Bubble attack, which just went everywhere as usual, hitting everyone except himself. At least on the plus side, he did some damage to Pikachu.

"Pikachu, Thunder Shock!"

"Water Pulse." Froakie started to gather up water energy in his palms while Pikachu was charging up for Thunder Shock, but similar to how the last Water Pulse went, it popped and sent water flying all over the battlefield, trapping himself and Pikachu inside of it.

"Chuu!" Pikachu screeched as he unleashed Thunder Shock. BOOM! The result of electricity and water everywhere wasn't a pretty result and sent both of our Pokemon flying backwards, one of them, the obvious one, being knocked out.

"Well done Froakie, I'm proud of you," I told Froakie as I returned him to his pokeball. Alright, this was the deciding match. Pikachu had taken some damage, but Chespin had taken a lot. I was at the disadvantage, but I believed I could win! "Chespin, your turn is now!"

"Chespin!" my cute little nut called out as he exited his pokeball. I could see wounds all over him so we would have to end this battle quickly. On the plus side, it looks like the Leech Seed vines had gone away.

"Pikachu, now is when we get serious! Quick Attack!" Owen reminded his Pikachu as he sped forwards.

"Chespin, Leech Seed!" I quickly countered. Chespin sent out the all-so familiar seeds and they hit Pikachu while he was running, wrapping the vines around him and tripping him over, stopping the attack. "Now Tackle!" Chespin ran forward and slammed his body against Pikachu's, sending him back to Owen.

"Thunder Shock!" Pikachu stopped cold as he was being hurt by the Leech Seed, regaining some of Chespin's health, before he unleashed a much more powerful bolt of electricity than before. Thanks to the Leech Seed buying me some time to think, I already had a counter move in mind.

"Use Rollout to deflect!" I ordered. Chespin started to roll like a steam roller which just made the Thunder Shock bounce off of him. "Now hit Pikachu with Rollout!" Chespin then went racing towards Pikachu with velocity and all you heard was a massive SLAM! Pikachu got back up but was very weak and I saw that Owen looked nervous.

"Electro Ball!" Pikachu whipped out a shimmering ball of yellow electricity towards Chespin, but yet again, Chespin and I had the counter.

"Wrap Vine Whip around Electro Ball and sent it back flying!" I commanded. Chespin stopped the Electro Ball in mid-air and then swung it back towards Pikachu with more power than before.

"Quick Attack!" Owen was now calling attacks out of desperation.

"Tackle!" Our two Pokemon collided but the look, the look on Pikachu's face was power, perseverance and determination, which is how they overpowered us. Chespin was sent rolling along the ground and I needed to regroup quickly or it would all be over. "Vine Whip!" Now I was the one that wasn't calling the right moves, I wasn't thinking clearly anymore.

"Thunder Shock Pikachu!" Pikachu leaned backwards before he threw his body forward as well as a powerful jolt of lightning. Chespin was hit, but so was Pikachu by that Leech Seed. Thank god for Leech Seed because that gave Chespin the little health it needed to get back up.

"Alright Chespin, use Rollout!"

"Quick Attack!" Chespin agilely jumped into the air before he started to steam roll right for Pikachu. Pikachu jumped into the air also but was below Chespin, with a clean white strip of power behind him. The two Pokemon were battling back and forth and there was no explosion, just a knock out as our Pokemon were sent flying to the ground…

"Return!" The battlefield was covered with dust at our feet as a fearsome battle had taken place, and the only Pokemon that stood on that battlefield now was Chespin.

"We did it buddy!" I cheered as me and Chespin hugged and let the stresses of battle go. Owen looked sad for a moment but smiled, and came over.

"Congratulations Tyler, you fought bravely!" Owen shook my hand and he showed me a toothy grin.

"Wow, I can't believe I beat such a high-levelled trainer like you," I proclaimed in shock.

"Pin!" Chespin agreed.

"I'll definitely beat you next time," he assured me. "But you were impressive, even though one of your Pokemon didn't really even battle me, you still won. Impressive."

"Hehe. Thanks," I giggled. "But Froakie, he needs a lot of work and care. I promise, from trainer to trainer, I'll do everything I can to make him get his confidence back!"

"You better! Because the next time we battle, I want to see that Froakie's true potential!" he exclaimed. We both laughed, and sort of just looked at each other for half a dozen seconds.

"Well, Tyler, you're one of a kind. I gotta hit the road, but you go win that gym battle!" he told me with a confident glint in his eye.

"I will!" I promised him. We said our goodbyes, and then I watched him leave, waving. He was a one of a kind trainer, and I can't wait to battle him again. But now that I've beaten such a high-levelled trainer like Owen, there's no doubt in my mind; I'm gonna win that gym battle!
