Double Act
Chapter 34: Thunder Storm
Part IV
A/N: Okay, so this is to kind of wrap up the team up chapter. Kennedi is good and will remain that way. Now with the threat destroyed, the rangers can finally relax. However, they have some other things they need to take care of first. This chapter is more of the rangers relaxing now that the fight is over, and will end with the day at the race. I figured since Blake (while they were in the Abyss in the episode) said he was worried about missing his race the next day, that the rangers had a get together of their own at night, no adults allowed. What'll happen now?
This chapter may be short.
Also, sorry for not updating sooner. It's been a busy month or so. I got trained for a new position at work that came with longer shifts/more hours, I got a temp job that I'm starting this week that will take up a good chunk of my free time, I will admit that I was working on another fic (that I just finished writing) and I had trouble focusing on my other stories while I wrote it, but hopefully I will get back on track with other things soon. I also just got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday, so I'm still a bit out of it. I do have quite a few things coming up in the next month as well, such as my cousins b-day party (important since it's the only day a year I get to see them), a concert, and getting ready to start my sophomore year at college and start searching for internships. Anyway, enough of my rambling and hopefully it won't be too long before the next update.
Disclaimer: I only own things not originally in the show.
With the fight done for the day, everyone agreed it would be best to go home and rest for the night. However, they knew they had to go back to the dino lab and have Hayley and Cam run a few tests on their powers. The first morpher they tested was Kennedi's, since her morpher had the power malfunction. When it was determined hers was all cleared and she had some power left in it, the girl took it and kept it on her. The others, however, had a different story.
"I'm afraid the rest of yours are dead," Hayley explained, holding the samurai amulet. "Lothor's extraction of the powers left just enough energy for one last battle."
"Yeah well I guess it's a good thing we got you guys," Shane turned to the current red ranger.
"You've done your part," Conner assured. "It's our turn to take over where you left off."
Dustin brought up a new conversation. "There's just one thing I don't understand."
"What's that Dustin?" Tommy wondered, looking to the earth ninja.
"Who rescued Sensei?" he asked.
Marah and Kapri eagerly cut in. "I think we can answer that for you," the blonde grinned. Both launched into the story of how they carried – or rather dragged – a tied up Sensei into Lothor's cave while the space ninja was napping. By the end, everyone was laughing.
"What?" Marah huffed. "Do you guys have any idea how heavy he is?"
"Yeah!" Kapri agreed. "Hey, Sensei, you should cut down on the cookies with your afternoon tea."
"I will keep that in mind," Sensei acknowledged, an amused grin on his face. "Now that I am returning to my normal life."
"I'm all about getting back to normal," Ethan breathed.
"Yeah but not before we get down and dirty," Blake grinned.
That night, the dino rangers found themselves chilling out at Conner's house, needing to relax. Since Blake's race wasn't until tomorrow, they had time to relax beforehand. Kennedi was the only one not with them, choosing to spend the night with the ninjas. The four remaining dino rangers had decided to go to Conner's house, since that was probably going to be the quietest place for them to hang out at the moment. Kira's house was an option, but they wouldn't have been left alone since the girls now lived with their uncle. It had been that way since their mother got remarried.
"So what exactly was wrong with Kennedi?" Trent turned to the yellow ranger. A movie was playing in the background, but most of them ignored it.
"Apparently, there were three copies of her ninja disc," Kira shrugged. "Two of which were encoded with evil, and Elsa had the original one that was unaffected. She didn't fight us because the stone and the disc were fighting against each other, which was why she kept doubling over in pain."
"How'd you get her back?" Ethan asked.
"Tori and I double teamed Elsa and she snatched the pouch that held Ken's ninja disc," Kira explained. "I gave it back to Ken, after forcing her to drop her morph, and she seemed all right. I don't think she remembers what happened after she morphed with her ninja powers, but just to be safe, she used her dino ones to help us finish the job."
Conner decided to continue the question and answer session. "And she's hanging out with the ninjas instead of us why?"
"She hangs out with us on a daily basis," Kira rolled her eyes. "Last time she saw them, aside from Hunter and Blake, was when they got her out of Mesogog's lab. Hunter's only got one more visit after this before he goes overseas, and Cassidy and I are busy trying to help him out with something he's planning. Blake's been on tour with Factory Blue since the ninjas defeated Lothor, so they're all taking the chance to catch up with him."
"Since when are you and Cassidy working together?" Ethan demanded. "I know you helped her get the TV station job, but…"
"That is something you'll just have to wait and see," Kira shook her head. "Though I suppose I can tell you that what we're planning is going to happen at Prom, so if you want to find out, you'll be there."
The boys all shared a look.
Over in Blue Bay Harbor, the ninja rangers found themselves hanging out in the beach near the water, enjoying the beautiful night. Kennedi had accompanied them back, needing to catch up with them. Leanne had met up with them at the beach, bringing food and drinks with her. At the moment, the sun had already set, so they were enjoying the night. A lit fire was in the center of their little circle and they had a radio playing music, but it was being drowned out by the sounds of their chatter.
So far, most of the night had been everyone getting Blake up to speed with what's happened since he left. In return, Blake told them about the places he traveled to with Factory Blue. Then he questioned Kennedi about how she got back into power, despite knowing what happened because of it. By now, those rangers who were drinking (regardless of age and courtesy of Leanne) were starting to feel a bit tipsy. Kennedi, Blake, and Hunter seemed to be the only ones refraining from drinking, all for different reasons. Once Kennedi was done with her story of her time as an evil ranger, the ninjas felt it was time to just sit around and ask random questions.
"So wait," Leanne frowned, interrupting the fire ninja. "There were two clones? One of Trent and one of you?"
"But my clone wasn't created until after you guys got me out of there," Kennedi nodded. "They were a bitch to deal with."
"How come they weren't there in the fight today?" Dustin asked, not really caring but still curious.
"I destroyed my clone last week," Kennedi answered. "And Trent destroyed his. If it wasn't for the fact that the dino gems can't sustain being cloned, we'd probably still be fighting them."
"It does make sense," Cam agreed. "The energies in each dino gem are unique, despite yours and your sister's being similar."
Shane rolled his eyes. "Didn't you say there was a TV show made about you guys, back when you were still evil?"
"Yeah, and it was horribly bad," Kennedi grinned. "Got a good kick out of it. And thankfully, we caught an episode that didn't show evil rangers."
"How come no one made a show about us?" Dustin pouted.
"Maybe because we're too cool?" Shane suggested. "They wouldn't be able to capture our coolness on TV, anyway."
"You guys are getting smashed," Tori laughed. "Since when are you two cool?"
Shane and Dustin stuck their tongues out at her as Blake turned to his brother. "So when's your next visit?"
"No idea, but I only got one more before I go overseas," the blonde sighed. Kennedi already knew this, so it wasn't a surprise to her. "I just know the visit will be a few days long."
"Who wants to go swimming?" Leanne suggested, standing. Since they all knew they were going to be at the beach, they had all brought swimming gear. Tori quickly followed her, wanting to get in the water. The surfer thought about grabbing her board, but decided against it. Shane and Dustin were next to follow, both trying to catch up to the girls. Cam simply shook his head before going to join them.
Blake watched them before turning to his brother and Kennedi. "You two coming?"
"We'll catch up in a minute," Hunter assured. Blake shrugged and headed for the water. Kennedi leaned into him as he wrapped his arms around her. "Are you sure you're all right?"
"Hunter, I'm fine," Kennedi answered. "I felt nothing from the Abyss, and Hayley said the botched disc shouldn't have done much. She's going to run some tests on it tomorrow to make sure."
"I knew I shouldn't have tried to stop you," he muttered. "I know how stubborn you can get."
"Hey, I don't blame you," Kennedi looked up at him. "You were just trying to prevent the three of you from being killed by Kira."
"Yeah, and that worked out so well," Hunter chuckled.
Kennedi shrugged. "Not my fault. You should've known she would come after you guys for even considering the idea in my presence. I'm just glad we managed to stop her before she actually did kill you."
"Thankfully," the blonde agreed. He looked at their friends, all of whom were now engaged in some sort of contest to see who could dunk who first. "Let's get out of here. I really don't feel like dealing with them while they're getting trashed."
"And leave poor Blake to deal with them alone?" Kennedi raised an eyebrow. "Let's go!"
Hunter happily followed her as she led them out of sight.
Morning rolled around rather quickly and the ninjas made their way to Reefside. Those who had been drinking had small signs of hangovers, but they were hiding it pretty well. Blake had left ahead of them, needing to be there early for the race. When Hunter and Kennedi went to pick up their teammates, they saw that they had all ended up crashing at Tori's place, since it was the closest to the beach. None of them had seemed to notice that Hunter and Kennedi had left their party a bit early. As Blake was prepping for the race, the ninjas met up with the dino rangers.
"So how was the bonfire?" Conner asked as they walked around, waiting for the race to start. The adults were around there somewhere, but had left the teens to their own devices.
"Most of them got wasted," Kennedi grinned. "We didn't feel like dealing with it."
"Probably the better move on our part," Hunter added.
"Which is why we now hate you," Tori grumbled.
"So where's Trent?" Kennedi wondered, noting he wasn't there.
"He's doing some errand for his dad," Ethan answered. Kennedi noticed it was a lie, but didn't comment.
Shane decided to speak up. "So who's ready for this race to get done and over with?"
"Dude, come on," Dustin whined. "The race is the best part!" Then he frowned. "Wait…you're joking." Shane sent him an amused look.
"Remind me again why I hang out with you people?" Cam muttered under his breath. The ninjas simply grinned at him as Trent came walking toward them.
"Hey," Kira greeted him. "Where've you been?"
"Dad needed some photos developed," Trent shrugged, discreetly handing Kennedi something. No one noticed the action but Kennedi herself. "Something for a report he's doing."
"Come on," Kennedi grinned, pocketing the photo until later. "Let's go! It's about to start!"
She dragged Hunter toward where Blake was sitting at the truck. Everyone walked by him, giving him high fives or hugs for good luck. With that done, they all headed to the edge of the track. Hunter lifted Kennedi onto his shoulders so she could see over everyone else. The race began and everyone started cheering wildly, the rangers and most of the fans rooting for Blake.
As expected, the ninja won the race.
A/N: Here's this chapter. Up next, I think I'm going right into House of Cards.
