Hello all, and welcome back to XY! Ooh, I've just finished writing Episode 10, after a little break after writing Episodes 4-9, and I loved writing it. It's a length that I'm really happy with (The average length of the old PUC episodes at least) and it's done a little differently, which I loved. But, today, it's the rematch of Tyler and Viola, so let's get going!
Ep 7: Round 2: Viola vs. Tyler!
The sharp breeze blew fast and strong around the bottom of the crater, and I could feel it blowing through my medium-length, slight curly, dirty blonde hair. It reminded me of sitting atop Prism Tower, and although it only felt like yesterday that I was there, at the same time it felt like it had been forever. Owen had gone 3 days ago, and now I was waiting in the Chamber of Emptiness for Viola. We had agreed yesterday that we would meet each other here at 2pm. In the past 3 days I've been mainly trying to train Froakie, but with no luck. Chespin and Fletchling are a bit stronger than when we battled Owen, but not a lot.
"I see you got here early!" Viola shouted down to me as she slid down the bank towards our make-shift battlefield. "Well I'm ready, so let's begin!"
"2 on 2 again?" I questioned her as she got out her pokeball.
"Of course." I reached for my pokeball and we stared down each other.
"Go!" we both roared as we chucked out pokeballs high into the air.
"Chesss-pin!" Chespin squealed as he jumped onto the grass with a smile on his face and his spirit burning.
"Lon!" Viola's Vivillon chimed as she flew steadily in the air.
"So we've got these two matched up again, but this time you won't be defeating us! Chespin, Leech Seed!" I commanded. Chespin fired out seeds with a green aura surrounding them, like some wispy essence.
"Psybeam!" she quickly countered. I wasn't going to let her stop me with the same attack again.
"Chespin use Tackle!" I retaliated while Vivillon was using Psybeam on the seeds. SLAM! Vivillon was knocked to the ground but she floated back up. Chespin was still in the air so Viola took that chance.
"Use Gust!" Just as powerful as last time, Vivillon unleashed a furious wind onto Chespin, pushing him higher into the air. "Now, as he falls, Draining Kiss!" Chespin started to fall back down to the ground and Vivillon utilised his lack of mobility by sending out a pink ball which collided instantly with Chespin. Wow, she's even more powerful than last time. I thought I was the only one training, but I was wrong! Chespin, though, easily got up because of all his training.
"Vine Whip!" Chespin let out his two vines and they went searching for Vivillon at a rapid pace.
"Poison Powder!" Viola yelled. Vivillon started to create a poisonous dust but it was nowhere near Chespin, so I didn't quite understand. Chespin's vines wrapped around Vivillon and trapped it, but that's when I noticed his vines turning purple as toxins zipped through them.
"Pin!" Chespin cried out as his body flashed purple, obviously being infected by the poison.
"Chespin hang on!" I called out to make Pokemon, as it still had Vivillon in it's grasp.
"I have to say Tyler, I'm impressed. Normally a Pokemon would give in and stop their attack after being poisoned but your Chespin has will power," Viola complimented us. I smiled, and realised that Chespin was only holding on for me.
"Chespin, Leech Seed!" I ordered. While still having Vivillon wrapped in its Vine Whip, Chespin sent out a barrage of seeds that went flying towards Vivillon.
"Break your way out of there with Gust!" Viola screamed in desperation, but as hard as Vivillon tried it was stuck, and extra vines quickly wrapped around its body, which made it unable to fly even when Chespin stopped Vine Whip. Viola looked worried as her main advantage had now been taken away.
"Now Chespin, use Rollout!" Chespin nodded at me and started to viciously roll towards Vivillon, who was now slouched on the ground, being eaten away at by Leech Seed.
"Psybeam it!" Viola countered. Unlike last time, Chespin didn't just storm through it, he had become much more agile and quick in our training so he simply bounced away from the attack and kept on rolling at her, no matter how hard Vivillon tried to hit Chespin. SLAM! A super effective move sent Vivillon tumbling back to Viola, and you'd think Vivillon would be almost out for the count but she still looked stronger than ever… Viola and I both were waiting for each other to make a move, while Vivillon was just sitting there, decaying. "I can't just watch my Pokemon faint! Vivillon, use Draining Kiss!"
"Vivi…" Vivillon murmured as she sent out a pink ball towards Chespin.
"Jump and use Tackle!" I told Chespin. He did as he was told and jumped away from the Draining Kiss, before shooting down towards Vivillon like a bullet. It looked like it was going to be a clean hit when at the last minute…
"Psybeam!" Viola ordered. Vivillon shot out the rainbow beam straight at Chespin and it sent him soaring back towards me. "Use Gust, and get out of that Leech Seed!" Vivillon started to stretch, trying to flap her wings as hard as she could. She was pushing and pushing and using up all her power when SNAP!, she was free. She then flew into the air and really flapped her wings, and she looked like she felt a release of energy. That Gust was powerful though, and it was just making contact with Chespin.
"Stand your ground!" Chespin was standing there, trying to take on the Gust but Vivillon was just flapping harder, which is what I wanted. "Use Rollout into the Gust!" Chespin followed orders and used his Rollout attack into the Gust.
"That Gust will just blow Chespin out of the sky like a leaf," Viola warned me. I wasn't convinced though. Chespin kept fighting the Gust and at first he was, but then the wind started to work with Chespin and blend with the motion of his Rollout. Viola gasped as Chespin had sucked all the wind into a big ball that surrounded him, powering up the Rollout. Chespin crashed his body onto Vivillon and she went rocketing down to the ground. When the dust cleared, Vivillon was out for the count.
"Return Vivillon, you fought bravely," Viola reminded her Pokemon as she was returned. I went to cheer but then saw Chespin panting, he wasn't doing so well. That just meant I had to finish off Viola's next Pokemon quickly, but I had a feeling of who that Pokemon was… "Heracross, unleash your power!" A pokeball was thrown and Heracross emerged from it, looking as menacing as ever.
"Cross!" he roared at us, remembering us from our previous battle. His rage just made my rage and determination grow, there was no way we were going to lose it this time!
"Heracross, use Pin Missile!" Viola commanded straight off the back. Heracross fired out white small pins with shoots coming out the back, making them look like missiles.
"Dodge it!" I retaliated. Chespin jumped up and dodged swiftly. I could go in for a physical attack, but that's what she wants me to do to use Counter… Wait, then I could… "Chespin, use Tackle!" I saw Viola smirk as she was preparing to call out for Heracross to use Counter. Chespin was just feet away from Heracross when she finally roared;
"Counter, Heracross!"
"Stop and use Leech Seed Chespin!" Chespin stopped himself in mid-air and then sent forward dozens of seeds, which all created vines that wrapped around Heracross. I saw Viola get angry at the attack as now Leech Seed would be on him for the entire battle.
"Heracross, use Megahorn on Chespin!" Viola called. Wait, Megahorn?!
"Chespin get out of there!" I warned my Pokemon. He quickly started to run away but Heracross overtook him with his powerful pale green horn. Heracross slammed his horn onto Chespin and he was sent flying up against the hill. When Chespin flopped down, he was unable to battle. "Return, buddy." Chespin was zapped up by his pokeball as I took another out. "You fought well… But now, it's time for Fletchling!" I shouted as I threw Fletchling's pokeball into the air. Fletchling appeared before us all and she looked nasty, she wanted to beat Heracross after the way she was defeated last time.
"Heracross, start this off with Pin Missile!" Viola exclaimed at the start of the battle. Heracross unleashed his attack of small white missiles straight towards Fletchling, who dodged the attack without need for instructions.
"Aerial Ace!" I shouted without even thinking. Fletchling dove towards Heracross and since I completely forgot about Heracross' Counter, Viola had the upper hand early in the battle.
"Counter!" she cried as Fletchling was deflected off of Heracross with ease. Heracross stood strong as Fletchling rolled along the ground. "Now, time for another Megahorn!" Heracross used his amazing speed to bolt along the battlefield and whack Fletchling with his powerful horn. "Now back up and use Aerial Ace!" Heracross flew into the air and started to rush back down towards us. I wasn't going to let Viola hit us three times in a row!
"Fletchling, use Quick Attack to dodge and then use a Peck attack!"
"Ling!" Fletchling chirped as she zipped out of Heracross' way, making him get his horn stuck in the grass. Fletchling's beak powered up and then stabbed it into Heracross' back. He cried out in pain as Fletchling's beak went deeper and was trying with all his might to get his horn out of the ground.
"Heracross, use Megahorn on the ground!" Viola ordered. Heracross then began to power up his horn which shimmered a pale green, and the raw power of it started to bring up the earth, making chunks of rock fly up at Fletchling. "Now use Pin Missile on Fletchling!" Now that Fletchling was surrounded by rocks and Heracross was free, it was the perfect time for Heracross to attack. He sent out the white pins and they all directly hit Fletchling, sending her back to the ground.
"Fletchling, get up and use Quick Attack!" I immediately retaliated.
"Counter!" Fletchling's Quick Attack was blocked and yet again, Fletchling found herself flat on the ground. I froze up for a second as Fletchling looked very wounded, and it felt like we weren't going to beat Viola... Again! With a couple more hits, Fletchling would be out for the count... But that didn't mean that I wasn't giving up! We have to win this! "Now, use Aerial Ace!" Viola exclaimed at her Pokemon. Heracross zipped forward with wind streaks everywhere, heading straight for Fletchling. And that's when it hit me, I needed to deflect Heracross the way Viola did to us!
"Fletchling, spread your wings out forward towards Heracross!" I commanded. Fletchling stood her ground and stretched her wings out ahead at Heracross, and just as he was approaching… "Now, put your wings up!" Just as Heracross hit Fletchling's wings she moved them upwards, sending Heracross into the air, spinning uncontrollably. "Aerial Ace!"
"Fletch!" Fletchling screeched as she used a devastating Aerial Ace onto Viola's Pokemon. Heracross fell to the floor and this was my chance!
"Finish this with Quick Attack!" I yelled and Fletchling surged at Heracross, slamming at him with a lot of velocity. Heracross and Fletchling both looked as if one more attack could end this.
"Aerial Ace!" we both commanded at the same time. Our Pokemon both rocketed forward but instead of colliding, they were in fierce combat, slashing at each other back and forth, wind streaks flying everywhere. I was wondering how they could hang on as they both looked like they were on the verge of fainting, more and more every time! But that's when they both suddenly stopped after one final collision and fell to the floor.
"Fletch… Fletch…" Fletchling muttered as her wings shakily pushed her back up.
"Herra… Cross…" Heracross murmured as he quickly got up again, strong. Our two Pokemon stared each other down, and no matter how this battle turned out, I was proud of how much Fletchling wanted to win this for me... THUD! One fell to the ground, unable to battle.
"I can't… Can't believe it…" I sighed as I saw Heracross face flat on the ground. "We, we won!" I roared as I pushed my fist into the air. Fletchling smiled up at me but just as she tried to chirp, she fainted immediately, showing how close of a fight it was. "Return, you fought valiantly."
"Return too Heracross, I'm eternally proud…" she told Heracross as he came back to his pokeball. Viola then started to stroll over to me. "Well done, Tyler. It is obvious how hard you've been training your Pokemon in the first few weeks of your journey. And none of that training would've been effective if you didn't have all those strong bonds with your Pokemon. You truly do deserve this Bug Badge, arguably more than Bree or Kevin." She handed me over the Bug Badge which was shimmering bronze, with pale green stones in it. It looked beautiful, and it felt so good getting my first badge!
"Alright, we just got… The Bug Badge!"
"Ches/Fletch!" my Pokemon cheered alongside me. I grinned down at them both and gave them giant hugs, their battling today was the best it could possibly be.
"Hey, as a reward, let me buy you dinner Tyler! I'll meet you at Restaurant le Santalune at 8pm sharp!"
"I'll tell you, the food here is simply magnificent! Or to put it in a more posh way, très bien!" I cheered. Viola giggled at my joke, with that same old warm smile.
"So, where do you plan on going next?" Viola asked as I was just finishing off my main course of lasagne.
"I'm headed back to Lumiose City. I promised Bree and Kevin I'd meet them there, though I hardly doubt they'd still be waiting for me since by the time I get to Lumiose, we wouldn't have seen each other for a couple of weeks," I explained. "And neither of them are from there, so they wouldn't have any family to visit."
"Well, I'm sure even if they're not there you can catch up with them some other time," she added. We both finished our mains and ordered our desserts; I was getting a hot fudge brownie with gooey chocolate in the middle and Viola was getting crème brulee. "Do you have any Pokemon you're hoping to catch?"
"Well, I've always wanted a Celebi, but I doubt that will happen," I laughed along with Viola.
"You never know," she reminded me. "Oh, yeah, that's what I was going to talk to you about. Gym battles! I happen to be a close friend of the Gym Leader living in Cyllage City, so I thought I could give you some tips!"
"That sounds great!"
"Ok, so the first basic thing you should know is that he is a Rock-Type trainer, but not just an ordinary Rock-Type trainer, he tries to uses dual typings to give him flexibility and advantage so that when opponents come in with Water and Grass-Types, he can turn it around. Classic Grant," she told me.
"Does he have a certain Pokemon he uses the most?" I asked her, intrigued by this Gym Leader.
"Well, he does have one flaw in his Water and Grass defence, which is his star Pokemon Onix."
"Onix, eh?"
"Yes, but his is really tough. One of the best. So my advice is don't just go in there with type advantage, go in there with Pokemon he won't expect, even ones that do have a disadvantage. That way, when you catch him off guard and break his strategy, you can emerge victorious!"
"Wow, that really was one hell of a meal," I said to Viola as we were walking back to the Pokemon Centre. "Thank you so much!"
"My pleasure, especially after you put in all those hours of training for our rematch," she replied. "I never battle that hard with normal trainers, especially rookies, but I knew you could handle the heat!" I smiled, as I was quite chuffed by her comments. I could see the red roofed building up ahead and I realised that I was going to have to say goodbye soon. I didn't know how to say it, so she said it for me. "Tyler, you go get 'em and make me proud. Win the whole Kalos league!"
"I will, I'm sure," I said modestly. We reached the Pokemon Centre and just looked at each other.
"Goodbye, and have a great journey!"
"Don't have too much fun while I'm gone," I joked. "Goodbye." We smiled, shook hands and waved as we separated and walked different ways. I went into the Pokemon Centre and saw Nurse Joy just smiling at me. I looked back through the glass doors and saw Viola's silhouette walking away, and realised how lucky I was to have her as a friend. She had brought me out of my shell, at least in battle, and now, I was going to be unstoppable.
