Okay, heres the next installment of Artemis's and Fafnir's Adventure! This chapter was written by Possibility-Maker. - Fafnir
Artemis' POV
"Wait, tell me again why I can't just fly us there?" I asked, "It would be so much faster than plain old walking there!"
Fafnir sighed "Because it was pretty obvious that it takes up too much of your energy to fly two people. We're getting close to marine headquarters, so we need to save up all the energy we have, just in case we end up fighting any strong marines, for example, the Fleet Admiral. Who, by the way, is most likely going to be there!" He said, waving his arms to emphasize his point.
"Don't tell me you're chickening out on this already?" I sighed dramatically, "And I thought that you were better than this…"
"No, no, no, don't get me wrong. I'm just trying to tell you that small fries like Colonel Obvious back then aren't going to be the only ones, chasing after us. There are going to be stronger marines at marine HQ, so we better be ready."
"Yeah, yeah, I know, but don't you think it was strange?" I asked.
"What was? That some marines were trying to hunt down some pirates? Not the most shocking thing in the world." He took out a map from his backpack, "There's a town close by, we should stop there to rest first before we head to marine HQ."
I shook my head, "I'm not talking about marines attacking us. I'm talking about how they found us in the first place. Think about it, our meeting spot isn't even on a map for crying out loud!" I pointed at the map in his hands to prove my point, "Yet they were able to find us and even had enough time to prepare all their weapons and surround the entrance, heck I wouldn't have even been able to find it if it weren't for the vivre card that the old man stuck on you."
"Wait, what?" He asked, suddenly stopping. I laughed as I watched him search himself for a vivre card that wasn't there. Finally, he stopped and glared at me.
"Just joking!" I laughed, "The location was on the letter he wrote me. But seriously, here." I opened my backpack, taking out a small rectangular card and ripped it in half, giving him one of the halves.
"A vivre card?" He raised an eyebrow, "When did you find the time to get one of these?"
"Always be prepared. That's something I learned the hard way and trust me, you do not want to know. But anyway, back to the topic about marines."
"Right, that does seem a little strange, I even took extra care to make sure I wasn't being followed… What about you?" He gave me a questioning look.
"Of course I made sure! When it comes down to it, I can be an expert at sneaking around and not being noticed! I have the eyes of an eagle! I can even see that…" I narrowed my eyes.
"What?" Fafnir asked, looking in the direction I was looking at.
"Come out!" I called. When no one came out I sighed, "Fine, if you want to be like that…" I concentrated my mind on the bush near by. A second later, a man in camouflage clothing came flying out, hovering in midair.
"Whaaaaa?!" He screamed and started flailing around. I finally decided to drop him to the ground. He landed on his butt with a loud thump.
Fafnir smirked and a evil glint came into his eyes as we walked closer to him. I could clearly see panic in his eyes, as he looked up at us from the ground.
"So someone was following us this whole time, huh? Well that explains how they knew where we were. And who said that they were an expert at not being noticed?" He asked.
"Shut up!" I shouted, "I bet it was you who wasn't being careful enough! It was probably your fault!" The wind picked up at my shouting.
"Yeah right!" He raised his voice, "It was you he was following!" A dozen weapons suddenly appeared, dangerously hovering above us.
The man in front of us looked back and forth between us, his eyes getting bigger at the sight in front of him. His breathing became faster and visible sweat started dripping down his forehead.
"I know! Why don't we ask him?" I asked, turning my head towards the marine and drawing my bow. He jumped a little after seeing my evil gaze.
"Fine!" Fafnir agreed, also turning his head towards him, "Well? Who was it you were following?!"
"Come on! Hurry up and answer us!" I snapped.
We walked closer to him. The sight of the weapons and our evil stares were clearly too much for him, because a second later his eyes glazed over and he fainted.
"What was that about?" Fafnir asked.
I shrugged my shoulders "Don't know."
Timeskip
I tapped my fingers on the desk in front of me, watching the unconscious body that was lying on the only bed in the hotel room.
"How long do we have to wait here?" I asked impatiently.
"Until he wakes up. I want to ask him something, and then we can get out of this town and straight to marine HQ." Fafnir replied.
"Uggh!" I groaned, "I wish he would hurry up and wake up! I'm so bored!" A mischievous smile appeared on my face and a second later the marine was floating in the air.
"Put. Him. Down." Fafnir said with a hard edge in his voice, "He is our only source of info at this point. Besides you need to conserve your energy."
"No need to worry about that. It only takes up too much energy if I'm lifting two people, including myself. If it's just one person, it's no big dea-"
A surprised scream interrupted me.
"Oh, he's awake." I casually said.
"Put. Him. Down." Fafnir told me again. The edge in his voice was starting to scare me, so I did as he said and the marine let out a sigh of relief. Fafnir quickly walked towards him and the marine gulped.
"Tell me why you marines are so focused on chasing after us. It was never like this before. I overheard some townspeople say that some pirates were causing trouble nearby, but only a couple of marines went to investigate because the rest were busy looking for us."
"Straight to the point I see," I commented, still sitting on my chair, "No hi, what's your name?"
He ignored me and yelled "Well? What do you have to say for yourself?!"
The marine sweat dropped and quickly said "Because of Whitebeard's death, the Fleet Admiral has decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to hunt down every single member of the Whitebeard Pirates. He said something about catching a chicken without it's head."
I whistled "That's one heck of a metaphor. But it's not going to be that simple. Every single member of the Whitebeard Pirates should not be underestimated."
"So that's it." Fafnir muttered, "I agree. Even though, I'm not very close with the crew, I'm certain that they won't be captured that easily. Now get out of here!" He shouted at him. The man quickly did as he said and ran out of the room.
"Harsh." I said.
"You can't get a job done without being a little harsh." He picked up his backpack, "That's something you learn when the whole world is against you." He said the hard edge returning. "Well you're not alone, so we either do this together or not at all. Don't go deciding things on your own." I chided, picking up my own backpack.
"Hmph." He grunted. "Sorry."
"It's okay. Now, I think it's time we get going. It's getting dark; the perfect time to sneak into a heavily guarded building." I gave another one of my devilish grins.
He shook his head "Did I tell you that you had a death wish?" and muttered something about kids and their crazy ideas. Then we headed out.
Hope everyone enjoyed this chapter! Until next time, later!, Possibility-Maker
