Hey everyone! I changed this chapter a bit so I had to reupload. Let me know what you think.
I do not own PLL.
Belongs to Sara Shepard and Freeform.
It's a month later, few weeks into March and I'm completely bummed out. Instead of playing softball this year I'm stuck sitting out because of my ankle still being out of commission. I'm the one who will be helping out with keeping track of the stats, records and keeping score during the game. So not much excitement will be happening in my second half of my sports career and it completely sucks.
I have been on edge about that and about a few tests I have this week, but the girls have a lot more on their minds besides tests. About a month ago they got themselves into a major A situation, and that left them in serious legal trouble. How could that be possible? Well A really bit them in the ass this time. Their therapist Dr. Sullivan went missing because they told her what was going on and they were busting their asses trying to find her. When I found out I understood more why they hesitated so much when I asked questions about A.
So anyway, at one point they had gotten a text saying that she was supposedly still alive but only for a certain amount of time. So sometime after the shortened and humiliating experience during Hanna's dad's wedding, (another long and shitty day of A's many games that they didn't tell me about until it was too late) they ran off and found who they thought was Dr. Sullivan buried in the ground. When they dug the spot up they found a dummy doll and the shovel they were using was the same shovel the cops say killed Alison. So naturally A set them up to get caught with the murder weapon of their dead friend and had to do community service for a month since Spencer's parents helped out. Ain't the life of a Rosewood resident grand?
But anyway, they are still dealing with their community service right now and it seems like something is starting to go wrong with their friendships. I guess A is finally getting to them and it kind of breaks my heart a bit to watch that, but of course I try to do my best to be there for them as much as I can while trying to be prepared for the tests.
More "exciting" news is that the entire school is gushing over the dance that will be happening in a couple weekends. It's themed as usual and it's a Masquerade Ball…typical. I haven't decided if I'm going yet. Andrew is going to be out of town for the weekend of the dance to visit family in Florida, so I'll be dateless for the first time since dances started this school year. I'll most likely be staying home. I don't see the whole hype in it without Andrew. I went to the others for him and that was enough dancing for me.
"Hey cuzzo." I look over at Bobby while in the middle of lunch in front of the school that Friday. I haven't seen him in a few weeks so I wanted to take advantage of it being just us two. "How about we go to Hershey Park the night of the dance?"
I slurp noodles of Chinese before I answer. "That's random."
He half smiles. "Well my girlfriend asked me to meet up and said it's supposed to be a concert festival. I heard Paramore is going to be there and a fireworks show at the end."
I almost choke on my food. "Did you say girlfriend?"
He turns a bit red. "Yea."
"Since when?"
"Since a few days ago."
"And you're telling me this now?"
"Thought it would be a conversation to ease into."
I laugh a bit. "And you want me to come with you guys?"
He smiles. "Well, you said you aren't going to the dance. So why not chill with me?"
I take a sip of my Pepsi and consider this for a second. "Could be a good time." I say, nodding.
"Of course it will. You'll be with me, duh."
I laugh. "How could I forget." I take another sip of my soda. "But I will let you know for sure. The girls are making me feel bad about not going with them."
He laughs. "Well it is your last two years of high school left. They are probably just trying to make it memorable."
I nod. "Yea most likely. We'll see."
"Well let me know whenever. There's a discount going on that if I buy one ticket I can get the other free. So if you don't then I already have a friend in mind who would tag along. And if he doesn't go then I won't waste money on an extra ticket."
"Sweet deal."
"Couldn't agree more."
"So who's this girlfriend? Do I know her?"
"Actually yea. It's Sam."
I look at him. "Sam?" He nods and I have to rack my brain. "As in my closest friend from Jersey, Bailey Silva's older seventeen year old sister Sam?"
He nods again. "That's the one. She's going to the festival too by the way."
"Well aren't you full of surprises."
He laughs and shrugs. "It happens."
After I get done with some homework after school Andrew picks me up from my house and we head to Spencer's. I promised her that I'd come over for a double date with her and Toby, so naturally Andrew is invited. The original plan was not a date kind of hang out. It was actually for the entire group to hang out, but Em and Aria felt like third wheels since we are all couples. Caleb came back not too long after he left because Lucas insisted he'd try again with Hanna, which worked out. As for Emily, she hasn't dated anyone since Samara. Then Fitz wasn't exactly going to hang around with us out in public.
In the end Hanna and Caleb end up bailing. They apparently have stuff to do. I think it's probably something A related but I don't bother trying to figure that out.
In the beginning we are hanging out in the hot tub. Well they are in the hot tub because of my ankle. I mean, I'm in a boot now but I'm not in the mood to take it off. So instead I keep that foot on the deck while I let the other dangle in the water. When we finish we go hang out in her room, and Spencer orders some food. When her and Toby head downstairs to get it when the doorbell rings me and Andrew stay upstairs for a bit longer, just relaxing on his lap with his arms around me cuddled up on the armchair.
"How was your day?" I look at his hypnotizing bright blue eyes.
"It was alright."
"Anything exciting?"
"Saw Bobby during lunch today."
"Oh that's right, you told me. How is he doing?"
"He's good. He invited me to go to a festival the day of the dance."
"A festival?"
"Concert festival. Paramore is going to be there."
"Damn, going to have fun without me."
I laugh. "Who's the one leaving me for the weekend?"
"Guilty." He smiles and his eyes are looking at me like they always do when he stares at me. He always drifts off in a daze with a smile on his face and I love when he does that.
I can't help but turn around enough to grab the back of his head and pull him to me. Our lips touch as I run my fingers through his hair and my heart leaps in my chests. I love this feeling.
He brings me closer to him. The way our lips gently touch each other as we kiss and the way his nose tickles my face makes my heart jump. I know this is right.
"Food is served." I faintly hear Spencer.
I go to pull myself away from him but he brings me back to him and kisses me one last time. I smile at him and then kiss him on his lips again. "You're adorable." I ruffle his hair out of his eyes.
He kisses me. "So are you." Then he helps me to my feet.
Spencer smiles at me from the door as we walk to her and head downstairs to eat.
When I get home it's the middle of what seems to be a heated conversation that's getting more built up.
"Aria, go upstairs." Uncle Byron says. "Take your brother with you."
"No." Aria says as I'm walking into view of the living room. "No, I'm staying here."
She catches my eyes as I see her and Fitz in the middle of the living room holding hands. Her parents both standing up in front of them, seeming to be ready to attack him. Mike is by the stairs and gives me a look like he's super confused. Even Fitz gives me a kinda scared look. I so came home at the wrong time.
Aunt Ella and Uncle Byron both look at me when they notice everyone else looking my way. I don't know what else to do but say, "Uh...hi?"
"Jessie." Uncle Byron says calmly as he takes a breath. "Can you please take Aria and Mike upstairs with you?'
"Wha..."
I dont get out more than that, "No arguing and no questions. Just go." Aunt Ella gets in angrily.
"I already told you, I'm not going anywhere." Aria says.
Everyone looks at her.
"If this is true what you are telling us..." Uncle Byron starts.
"It is." Fitz says.
"No!" Aunt Ella gets out.
It makes me jump, I sure as hell know what they are talking about now. I knew this was not going to go well.
We all look at Aunt Ella, for a second it's quiet. Then Fitz composes himself.
"What I'm hoping can happen is that..."
"No." Uncle Byron says. "What is gonna happen is you are gonna leave my house right now."
"Mr. Montgomery..." He tries.
"End of conversation." He tells him
"Dad just..." Aria tries to get in.
"Aria, no." Aunt Ella tells her.
"Byron..." Fitz starts.
"I'm not asking you. I am telling you." He gets closer to him but before Uncle Byron can do more Mike gets in between them and punches Fitz right in the mouth.
"Mike!" Aria yells.
Aunt Ella gasps, while Uncle Byron grabs him and pulls him away, turning around and gives me a look to take him.
So I do. I grab Mike from my uncle's grasp and pull him to the stairs. "Go upstairs " I whisper to him.
"But..."
"Just go, okay?"
Instead he walks over to the front door and opens it, standing beside it as if indicating he wants Fitz to leave.
I turn back to the others and see that Fitz has a cut on his bottom lip. He wipes it with his thumb and blood goes on it. He looks at Aria.
"Maybe you should go." She tells him with an upset look.
He watches everyone for a second and then walks away from them. He catches my eyes as he passes me and I half smile at him.
He half smiles backs and walks out the door. Mike closes it and then he heads upstairs.
I watch him as he climbs the steps, then look back to the room.
Aria has a hurt look on her face, her parents are pissed.
"Both of you go upstairs." Uncle Byron says to us.
We sit upstairs for awhile in silence. She doesn't really know what to say to me. But eventually she starts talking.
"Don't tell them you knew."
I look at her in confusion. "Why?"
I don't want you getting in trouble for not telling them."
"But..."
"Just dont, okay."
I slowly nod. "Yea, okay."
It gets quiet again for a few minutes.
"Jessie."
I look at her as she's sitting beside me on her bed, both of our backs against the wall. "Hm?"
"Can I tell you something?"
"Sure."
"There's a plan going on for tonight."
"Plan?"
"For A."
I go to say something but she interrupts and tells me that her and the girls had faked not liking each other. They tricked A into thinking they are turning on each other and that led to Emily finding a way to communicate with A about wanting to be allies to give him…her…it? Whatever, my point is that they are pretending to have evidence that links A to Ali's murder.
My mouth drops a bit. "Are you crazy?" I try to compose myself.
"We need to get this over with."
"But..."
"Please don't lecture me. I wanted to tell you so that you know where I'm going tonight."
"And if you get yourselves killed? Am I going to have to lie that I didn't know about this too."
"Don't be so dramatic, Jessie." She gets up. "I'm gonna talk to mom and dad." Then she leaves.
What the hell? She drops a bomb like that and leaves?
When she comes back upstairs it apparently didn't go well. Her parents don't want to hear it, so they sent her back up here. Now she has to figure out how to get out of the house.
She starts to get her stuff.
"I want to help." I say.
"Jessie, you can't."
"Because you don't want me to or because of my ankle?"
"Both." She grabs her bag. "I'll text you though."
"Promise?"
She nods. "Yes." Then she heads out into the hall.
As if on cue Mike walks out of his room and offers her a way out when she explains that she needs to go out. So he gives her the option through his window and apologizes for hitting Ezra. He thought it was better him than their dad hitting him.
I wait a few minutes after watching her climb out the window to head downstairs. When I get down there I see that Uncle Byron is leaving the kitchen and coming towards me.
"Hey Jellybean."
I half smile. "Hey."
"Sorry you had to see that."
I shrug a bit. "You're her dad. It's your job."
He slightly smiles. "You didn't know anything about them dating did you?"
My hear sinks, but I keep myself composed. "No. I had no idea." I start to think, "But maybe you could be a bit openminded?"
His eyebrows go up, "About my daughter dating not only a teacher, but a man that is in his twenties?"
I nod, "I get it, I do. But he's a nice guy. She could have gone for someone much worse. And... he did save my life."
He seems shocked but nods as he starts to walk away. "You want to watch some TV with me and your aunt?"
Shouldn't have surprised me that he would change the subject, so I shake my head, "No. I'm gonna go get some food from the Brew, maybe pass by the store. I have some things I have to do."
"You're okay to drive?"
I nod. "Yea. I broke my left ankle, not the right. So I got it."
"Okay." He kisses me on the head. "Be careful."
I smile, "Gotcha."
I watch him walk to the family room and I walk out the front door. I get into my car and start to drive. The thing is, I'm not going to the Brew or the store. I'm following Aria to the greenhouse she said the plan is taking place. She is not going to drop that on me and then go about her day like nothing is about to happen.
When I get to the wood section where she said they are meeting up I see Spencer's, Aria's and Emily's cars as I pull up behind them, but not Hanna's. Maybe she hasn't gotten here yet, which if the time on my car is right the plan should be happening right now.
I slowly get out and look into all three cars to see if anyone is in them. Not a soul in any, so I start heading to the woods.
I walk a few minutes or so in the spookiness and see the greenhouse come to view. That's when I hear running steps and just turn around in time to hear a screeching of tires. I keep myself balanced enough as I stumble over my boot when I turned too quickly, just making out a silhouette of a person running and then getting hit by a car.
My mouth falls in shock as I see this person run away without a second thought, as if they aren't even hurt. I don't know what to make of this at first. But then I realize that Hanna is the one who hit this person when Spencer yells, "Hanna!" and all four of them take off after the silhouette I saw.
Did I just witness A getting run over by the person who got run over by A first? Talk about ironic.
"Hey!" I yell after them when I finally find my voice again, but they are too far into the woods now to get them to notice.
I see something glow on the floor as it buzzes and walk over toward Hanna's car. I bend down and pick up a cellphone. I turn it in my hands a few times, not recognizing it to be any of the girls phone.
This is A's phone. I think to myself as my eyes widen.
"Jessie!" I hear my name as someone calls it, sounding out of breath.
I look behind me and see the girls come into view. "I didn't tell you so you could follow me!" Aria yells at me furiously. "What are you doing."
"I'm tired of knowing about this A thing and not being involved."
"It's too dangerous." She grabs me and pulls me away from the others. "Go home."
"No." I say, crossing my arms.
Her eyes widen in anger, but she doesn't do anything.
We are like this for a few seconds, then Spencer walks over and I hold out the phone. "Here. I found this."
The others walk over and all look at each other. "This is good." Spencer says. "We can finally be one step ahead of A."
