Chapter 36:
Once on Metamoor, our heroes saw that they were in the palace courtyard where the Honor Guard was looking up at Elyon fight off what looked like a large group of robot Morgriffs.
"That's a lot of robots.", Micheal said.
"And we can't do anything to help Her Majesty!", Aldern said as he clenched his fist.
"Don't worry. We got her back.", Cassidy said to Aldern as the Guardians and Matt took to the sky to aid Elyon in her fight.
"Good luck.", Aldern said as he watched Cassidy fly off.
As for Elyon, she had taken out a good amount of the robot Mogriffs, but they were fast and she was getting tired from blasting those she could and keeping up a force field around herself.
"Have to keep going!", Elyon said to herself as she blasted another robot Mogriff. "I can't let them attack the village!"
Suddenly, much to Elyon's relief, the Guardians and Matt were at her side ready to help.
"Sorry we're late.", Cornelia said.
"Better late than never.", Elyon said.
"So does anybody have a plan on how to get rid of these things?", Selece asked as the Mogriff robots circles around them.
"We destroy them!", Caleb said as he pulled out his sword. "That's all there is to it!"
"Dang straight!", Irma said ready to fight.
"We could do that.", Alchemy said. "Or we could find a way to destroy a lot at once."
"What if we hit them with a lot of heat?", Taranee questioned. "You know, fry them from the inside."
"That could work.", Angelo said. "Enough heat can melt the wires and circuits inside them."
"Then let's get started!", Will said. "Selece and Hay Lin combine your powers with Taranee and Alchemy."
"Gotcha!", Hay Lin said as she and Selece used their power of air to make Alcjemy and Taranee's flames stronger as the robot Mogriffs were engulfed in the flames.
"You know, the four of us can add a bit of power to that.", Angelo said to Will, Matt, and Elyon.
Will, Matt, and Elyon nodded in agreement before they along with Angelo fired some energy into the mix which intensified the heat that was hitting the robot Mogriffs melting their wires and circuts. Soon the robots began to shut down and fall to the ground. Seeing this, the Guardians, Matt, and Elyon landed among the fallen machines as the Honor Guard came up to them.
"Talk about frying their circuits.", Micheal said as he bent down and picked up a piece of one of the robots. "I just wish we knew where they were coming from."
"You and me both.", Elyon said as she kicked one of the robot's heads.
"We have to find their new factory.", Matt said.
"How much you willing to bet that this new factory is well hidden?", Angelo questioned.
"And has top-notch security.", Taranee said.
"And probably has something that keeps us from finding it.", Cornelia added.
"Looks like we've got our work cut out for us.", Will said.
"Well we can't just sit around and do nothing.", Drake said. "There has to be something we can do."
"Actually, nothing is all we can do.", Cassidy said.
"She's right.", Raythor said. "Until they make the next move, we've got nothing."
"All we can do is be ready for the next attack.", Vathek said. "And who knows when that will happen."
"It may not be for a while.", Tynar said.
"What makes you say that?", Alborn asked.
"Well from what you all have been saying, this factory you're talking about can make an army of these robots if given enough time.", Tynar said.
"Yes. That's right.", Selece said.
"Well shouldn't there be more than all of this attacking?", Tynar questioned. "I'm thinking that who ever sent these only sent them to see how they worked out here."
"Like a test run.", Taranee figured. "Which means only one thing."
"They're making an army.", Miriadel said.
"That's not good.", Irma said.
"No it isn't.", Will said.
"We need to find that factory.", Caleb said. "Everything else needs to put aside until we do."
"Whoa there, Caleb.", Cassidy said. "We do have school and all the things we have to do for the carnival."
"Are you serious!?", Caleb snapped. "All of Metamoor is in danger of invasion and you'd rather work on some stupid carnival!? What kind of Guardian are you!?"
"One that wants to keep a low profile!", Cassidy said as she stepped up to Caleb. "If we go and drop everything, people will ask questions. And let's not forget that maybe, just maybe, the ones behind the attacks have a spy or two keeping an eye on us on Earth."
"Yeah right.", Irma said.
"Actually, she may be on to something there.", Taranee said. "I mean think about it. Bad enough they sent the robot Mogriff here. But they sent them when only Elyon was the only one who could fly and fight them before we came to help."
"Then there was when we had that mission on Florana.", Alchemy said. "Odd that they sent some robots here when we were on another world with only the Honor Guard here to fight."
"Which cost them big for underestimating us.", Drake said.
"So if there is someone spying on us, where are they doing it?", Caleb questioned still doubting that there is someone spying on them.
"Sheffield.", Cornelia said. "It's the only logical place. We're there for most of the week and who ever they are in a position to be able to keep an eye on us."
"Well that's comforting.", Alchemy said.
"So from now on, we'll jut have to watch those around us and hope we find out who's spying on us.", Angelo said. "Hopefully we'll get lucky and find them before something big happens."
"But until then, we continue with what we're doing.", Will said.
"If we stop doing what we're doing for the carnival it may tip the spy off.", Elyon said.
"If there is a spy.", Irma said under her breath.
"But for now, let's get rid of these robots.", Cassidy said as she and Alchemy picked up a robot and tossed it into one of the five wagons the soldiers brought up a few seconds ago.
"At least my father and the blacksmiths will have some metal to work with.", Aldern said as he tossed a robot into the wagon.
"Indeed.", Alborn said. "The farmers could use more tools to work with."
"We'll take all of this scrap metal to the forge.", Raythor said.
"If anything your people are doing some major recycling, Elyon.", Cornelia said as she used her powers to move some of the robots into a wagon.
"Waste not what not.", Elyon said with a grin as she was doing the same thing.
Soon they had the robots loaded onto the wagons and the soldiers were taking them to the forge to be metled down and made into useful things for the kingdom. The Guardians, Matt, Elyon, Drake, and Aldern said their goodbyes and headed back to Earth to get some much needed rest for they all had school tomorrow. Back on Earth, Riddle and Sylla had met up with Hollens in his apartment to talk about the recent attack on Meridian.
"I take it that it went like all the rest.", Riddle said to Hollens.
"Yes, it did.", Hollens said. "But it was only a test. One that went very well."
"How so?", Sylla asked.
"We now know that besides the Guardians and the Regent only the queen can fly.", Hollens explained. "And she was almost defeated by our Mogriff robots."
"Now that is good news.", Riddle said with a sly smile. "We just have to find a way to keep those Guardians here on Earth when we pull off our invasion."
"What of Olsen?", Sylla questioned.
"If we can capture him, we will.", Hollens said. "But even if he gets away to help Meridian, he will fall along with young Elyon and her forces."
"There is a carnival coming soon at Sheffield.", Sylla said. "Perhaps we can do something then."
"Perhaps.", Hollens said. "But first we need the technology the Robertsons and John Vanders are working on."
"Worry not about that, my friend.", Riddle said. "Their work is coming along quite well. They've started working on the low-grade robots I gave them to work on."
"Good.", Hollens said before taking a sip of his tea. "If their chips can improve those robots then who knows what wonders the chip will do for our advanced ones."
"All we have to do now is wait.", Riddle said as the three of them drank their tea.
As for our young heroes, once they returned to Earth, they said their goodnights to each other and headed for their homes seeing as it was getting dark. Which brings us to Angelo and those living with him and his family as they just got home.
"Hey, kids.", John said as he noticed their tired look. "Long day?"
"You have no idea.", Angelo said as they took a set somewhere in the living room. "There was another attack on Meridian."
"I take it that you won.", Jun said.
"Yeah, but it's been a while since any attacks have happened.", Elyon said. "We now think that it was a test of their newest robots. That fly by the way."
"Whoever is making these things has some advanced tech.", Joe said.
"Really advanced.", Cassidy said.
"I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those robots.", John said. "Speaking of which, I'm testing our microchip on some robots with Hanna and Donald."
"No more talk of robots please.", Caleb said.
"Unless they can help us.", Drake said.
"Sorry.", John said. "But you know, I may be able come up with something."
"What kind of something?", Kadma questioned.
"I'm not sure yet.", John said. "I'll have to test it out first. But if it works, it could give you an advantage."
"We'll take whatever advantage we can get.", Aldern said.
"You can say that again.", Elyon said.
"I'll get started on it as soon as I can.", John said.
"But right now, it's time for dinner.", Kadma said as they all headed into the dining room to eat.
The next day at school...
"You're what!?", Irma questioned Will after she told her friend about her dropping out of the running for Homecoming Lady.
"I'm dropping out.", Will said.
"But why?", Cornelia asked.
"Well, for one, it's all couples running for Homecoming Lord and Lady.", Will explained. "So how's it going to look if me and Caleb win and we're not together?"
"Good point.", Cornelia said.
"But think of all those who want you to win.", Irma said. "Just because you're not with Caleb doesn't mean that you don't deserve to win."
"Sorry, Irma. But I've made up my mind.", Will said with a smile. "Besides. You and Caleb are dating. It wouldn't be right."
"You're just dropping out to give Taranee and Nigel a better chance at winning.", Caleb said.
"Gee, I didn't know I was that pathetic to need that kind of help.", Taranee said sarcastically feeling hurt. "Thanks, Caleb. I feel a whole lot better now."
"Not cool, dude!", Nigel said as he wrapped an arm around Taranee in comfort.
"That's just mean!", Hay Lin said to Caleb.
"Just plain wrong.", Angelo said as he and the others left Caleb and Irma to themselves.
"Messed up, huh?", Caleb asked.
"You think?", Irma questioned sarcastically. "We don't need them getting upset with us with only a few days until the Homecoming Dance."
"Then I'll just apologize to Taranee and hope she'll accept it.", Caleb said as they headed inside the school.
"That's a start.", Irma said. "But first, you better drop out of the running for Homecoming Lord. No need to be doing it if Will is dropping out of it as well."
"Good idea.", Caleb said.
"We just have to ind a way for you to dance with Will and for me to dance with Matt.", Irma said. "Even if it's only for a few dances."
"And while we're dancing with them, we can try and make things right with them and hope they take us back.", Caleb said.
"That's the plan.", Irma said as they headed into the lunch hall. "It's just all a matter of time."
The days went by like normal for the teens. Will and Caleb dropped out of the running for Homecoming Lady and Lord and Caleb apologized to Taranee and Nigel who accepted their apology. During the week of Homecoming, the girls went dress shopping while the guys got tuxedos for the dance which was on Saturday which came to quick for them. Yet they took it in stride as they got ready for the dance. The girls went to the salon to get their hair done along with their finger and toe nails while the guys went to the barber to get a touch up or two. Soon it was time to go to the dance in which they all decided to meet up at the school and go in together. It didn't take the guys long to get ready and get to the school. Eric, Nigel, Matt, and Drake each had white tuxedos with matching shoes and black shirts while Aldern, Angelo, Micheal, and Caleb were wearing black tuxedos with matching shoes and white shirts.
"Wonder how long before the girls show up?", Eric questioned as other couples walked into the school.
"Who knows?", Micheal questioned. "When I left, Selece was still getting ready."
"What is it with women and taking so long to get ready?", Aldern asked. "I find this quite strange."
"No idea.", Drake said. "But in the end they do end up looking nice."
"Very true.", Angelo said as two familiar couples walked by them and into the school while waving to the guys.
It was Uriah with Bess and Martin with Courtney. Uriah and Martin both were dressed in white suits with matching shoes and black shirts. As for the Grumper Sisters, Bess was dressed in a dark blue dress that went down a bit below her knees with matching short heeled shoes while Courtney was dressed in a black dress that went down to her ankles with matching short heeled shoes. Both were wearing a gold necklace.
"I still can't believe they all got together.", Nigel said as he and the guys waved back to them.
"Believe it, dude.", Matt said.
"I'm surprised that Selece is your date.", Eric said.
"So am I.", Matt said. "I just asked and she said yes."
"First you and Selece. Then Angelo and Will.", Micheal said. "This has been a week of surprises."
"Why do you say that?", Angelo asked.
"Well, at first, I thought Selece and you were dating.", Micheal said. "Then you went on a date with Will while my sister went on a date with Matt."
"Love is a funny thing, my friend.", Aldern said. "I mean I never thought I'd be with Cassidy, but here I am. Then there's Drake and Elyon."
"Very true.", Drake said. "I never thought she'd want to be with me."
"And yet she is.", Angelo said.
"Speaking of which.", Nigel said as something caught his eye. "They're here."
"Finally.", Eric said as the girls came walking up to them.
Will was in a white, thin strapped dress, that stopped just below her knees, with matching short heeled shoes, and small purse. Her hair was the same, except for her bangs, that were curled. She also was wearing a gold necklace and a gold bracelet on her right wrist. Irma was wearing a strapless, red dress, that went down to her knees, with matching short heeled shoes, and a red purse. She was wearing a silver necklace with pearl earrings, that her mom let her borrow. Her hair was the same as usual. Taranee was in a green dress, that went down to her ankles, with matching short heel shoes, and purse. Her hair was the same granted she had let it grow a little. Around her neck was a gold necklace along with a pair of gold earrings. Cornelia was in a pink, thin strapped dress with matching short heel shoes, and purse. She wore a gold necklace, with diamond earrings, and a gold and silver bracelet on her left wrist. Her hair was the same as always, as it flowed down to the small of her back. Hay Lin was in a yellow Chinese dress, that went down to her ankles, with slits on both sides, with violet short heel shoes. On her dress was violet flower patterns. Around her neck was a silver necklace with silver earrings. On her wrist was silver bracelet with a small dragon design on it. Her hair was let out as it flowed down to her knees, with two buns on top of her head. Cassidy was dressed in a baby blue dress that went down to her ankles with white short heel shoes with a gold necklace and a white purse. Her hair was as it always was. Alchemy was dressed in a black thin strapped dress, that stopped just below her knees, with matching short heeled shoes, and small purse. Around her neck was a silver necklace with a silver and gold bracelet on her left wrist. Her hair was in it's normal style. Selece was dressed in a yellow dress that went down just below her knees with white short heeled shoes and a white purse. Around her neck was a the pendant her grandmother gave her. Her hair was let out like it normally was as it flowed down her back. And finally, Elyon was in a violet dress with matching short heeled shoes and purse. Around her neck was a gold necklace that had the symbol of her kingdom along with a gold and silver bracelet on her wrist. Her hair was let out as it flowed down to the center of her back.
"Well... what do you think?", Cassidy asked Aldern as she walked up to him.
"I think I'm lucky to have met you.", Aldern said with a smile.
"Like wise.", Cassidy said returning the smile before they shared a quick kiss.
"You look great, Taranee!", Nigel said as he walked up to Taranee.
"Thanks.", Taranee said as she blushed a little.
"You look beautiful, as always,.", Micheal said to Cornelia as he held her hand.
"You don't look have bad yourself.", Cornelia said before kissing him on the cheek.
"Hay Lin. You look... wow!", Eric said as he looked at her dress.
"Really?!", Hay Lin asked with a bright smile. "Thanks! I did the designs on it myself!"
"Cool!.", Eric said holding her hand.
"Well don't you look nice in a suit.", Elyon said as she smiled at Drake.
"You think so?", Drake questioned before getting a kiss from Elyon.
"Yes, I do.", Elyon said.
"Well don't you clean up nice, Rebel-Boy.", Irma said to Caleb as she looked at him in his suit.
"Thanks. You look nice to", Caleb said with a smile that Irma returned. "So do you think we've got their attention?", he whispered talking about Will and Matt.
"Hardly.", Irma said with a frown. "They're more focused on their dates.", she said as they looked over at Will and Matt as they were talking to their dates.
"You look pretty daper, Mr. Olsen.", Selece said to Matt.
"And you look quite elegant, Ms. Robertson.", Matt said with a smile before he took Selece's hand and kissed it which didn't please Irma much.
"Why you little charmer you.", Selece said before kissing Matt on the cheek.
"I try.", Matt said with a smirk which got a giggle out of Selece.
"You look nice.", Will said to Angelo with a smile.
"So do you.", Angelo said to Will causing her to blush a little as he smiled at her. "Your dress goes well with your hair."
"Thanks.", Will said as she twirled her hair a little as her blush deepened. "Let's head inside!"
"Let's.", Angelo said as they headed inside the school arm in arm like the other couples did.
Well all but Alchemy who came alone. Seeing this, the others felt bad for her yet they knew she would be okay. But still...
"To bad Al could get a date.", Angelo said as he looked at her and saw that she was down yet didn't show it.
It was then that Will whispered something in Angelo's ear surprising him.
"You sure?", Angelo asked Will who nodded with a smile. "Okay. If it's alright with you.", he said as they made their way over to Alchemy.
As for Alchemy, she was walking alone wishing she did have a date.
'This sucks.', she thought to herself. 'How's it going to look with me walking in with the others all alone? Maybe I should wait out here for a bit before going inside.'
It was then Alchemy felt a arm hook around her right arm. Surprised, she looked to see Angelo and Will walking with her.
"Ummmmm... What are you two doing?", Alchemy asked.
"No one should go into a dance alone if they can help it.", Will said.
"So you're coming in with us.", Angelo said.
"And we won't take no for an answer.", Will said with a smile.
"You guys are nuts!", Alchemy said with a grin before giggling along with Will as they headed inside the school to the dance.
And, of course they got some surprised looks from some students as the three of them entered the dance yet didn't care as they went up to the others.
"Did we miss something?", Cassidy asked.
"Yeah!", Hay Lin said with a grin. "When did you three decided to come to the dance together?"
"Just now.", Will said with a smile. "No one should go to a dance alone."
"This is going to be an interesting night.", Matt said with a grin when a song started to play.
"Oh! I love this song!", Cassidy said as she grabbed Aldern's arm and pulled him along so they could dance. "Let's dance!"
"As you wish.", Aldern said with a smile as he went along with Cassidy.
It didn't take the other couples long to get on the dance floor and dance to the music like all the other couples that were there. Angelo and Will looked at each other and smiled before they went to dance as well. And before she could go sit down, Will grabbed her arm and pulled her along as well to dance with her and Angelo.
"Seriously?", Alchemy questioned.
"Why not?", Will questioned. "I've seen it done before."
"But what if some people talk?", Alchemy questioned.
"Let them.", Angelo said. "We're here to have fun! So let's have fun!"
Alchemy couldn't help but smile as she was having a great time dancing with Angelo and Will. As the dance went on, Alchemy ended up dancing with her other friends as well. She went from Will and Angelo to Elyon and Drake, Selece and Matt, Cassidy and Aldern, and so on. But soon she decided to take a break and sit down allowing her friends to dance with their guys. But there was a part of her that wished she had a guy of her own to dance with. But she just took a deep breath before drinking her thing fo juice she got from one of the coolers that was set up for the students to get a drink from. As she was drinking her soda a guy with blue eyes and blonde hair that went down to his neck came walking up to her dressed in a black tuxedo. Once she saw him, Alchemy knew who he was and was surprised that Stephen Williams actually came up to her.
"Ummmmm... Hi, Stephen.", Alchemy said with a smile that he returned.
"Hi, Alchemy.", Stephen said. "I was wondering if you'd like to dance."
"Really?", Alchemy questioned. "I thought you came here with someone."
"Actually, I wanted to ask you out but I didn't think you'd say yes.", Stephen said with a slight blush.
"Oh.", Alchemy said surprised by all of this. "Well... you could have asked."
"I know. Sorry.", Stephen said.
"It's okay.", Alchemy said with a smile. "Come on! Let's dance!"
"Okay!", Stephen said as they held hands while walking out onto the dance floor and began to dance.
As the night went on, everyone was having a great time. Well almost everyone. Irma and Caleb were trying to find a way to dance with Matt and Will. Granted they were enjoying their time together, but they really wanted to dance with their EXs in hopes of getting with them.
"I'm so getting tired of this!", Irma said as she and Caleb were sitting in some chairs that were set you for any students to sit in. "No matter how hard we try, we can't seem to be able to dance with them.", she said as she watched Matt dance with Selece.
"Our time will come.", Caleb said as he watched Will dance with Angelo. "We just have to wait."
"If you haven't noticed, Rebel-Boy, I'm not the patient type!", Irma said beforer biting into a cookie she had.
Caleb couldn't help but grin at Irma as she pouted. it was one of the few things he thought made her look cute. It was then that he shook that thought out of his head. He wanted to be with Will while Irma wanted to be with Matt. With that thought in mind, Caleb return to looking at Will and Angelo as they were dancing together hoping for the chance to get back with her. As for Irma, she she couldn't help but smile as she saw the intense look on Caleb's face as he was looking at Will and Angelo dancing together. It was something that she thought made him look a bit handsome and wondered why Will even broke up with him in the first place, yet shook it off as she reminded herself that she wanted to get back with Matt as she went back to eating her cookie. Now as for Matt and Selece, they were having a great time together as they were dancing to the music. But they did notice how Irma was staring at them.
"She so wants to dance with you.", Selece said to Matt as they danced to the music.
"I know.", Matt said. "And I also know that she plans on trying to get back with me if I do dance with her."
"Can't blame her for trying.", Selece said. "But you have to ask yourself something."
"What's that?", Matt asked.
"Do you still have any feelings for her?", Selece asked.
"To be honest, I thought I did.", Matt said.
"But...", Selece said knowing there was a "But" coming."
"But... After thinking about it, for a while, I don't want to be with Irma anymore.", Matt said.
"Really?", Selece questioned a bit surprised by this.
"Yeah.", Matt said. "Don't get me wrong. What me and Irma had was great. But deep down, I didn't feel the love. Plus, I think that Irma wanted to be with me just because of who I am."
"Well you are very popular.", Selece said with a small smile.
"Well being in a band will do that.", Matt said with a grin getting a giggle out of Selece. "Besides. Right now, I'm seeing this really cute girl that just moved into town."
"Oh really?", Selece questioned playing along.
"Oh yeah.", Matt said as they continued to dance. "She something else too. She nice, to others, and stands up for what is right. She's a great dancer and can play a mean set of drums."
"She sounds nice.", Selece said with a smile that Matt returned.
Now let's go to Will as she is dancing with Angelo.
"Well tonight is going pretty good.", Angelo said as he and Will danced together.
"It be even better if a certain somebody stopped staring at us.", Will said as she looked at Caleb out of the corner of her eye.
"Let him stare.", Angelo said. "This just proves that him and Irma being together is just a front to try and make you and Matt jealous."
"I know.", Will said. "I just wish he'd move on. I am."
"Are you?", Angelo questioned.
"What do you mean?", Will asked.
"Well sometimes you have to ask yourself..."
"If I'm truly over Caleb?", Will asked knowing where Angelo was going. "Believe me when I say that I have been asking myself that question a lot. And after being broken up with him for this long, I can safely say that I'm over him."
"Really now?", Angelo questioned with a smirk.
"Yes.", Will said with a grin. "We had something great, but I saw a side of him that I didn't like, when it came to how he and Irma treat Cornelia. Don't get me wrong, I'm not so innocent in that matter either, but those two are something else. Whenever I tried to get along with Corny, he was so against it that it wasn't even funny."
"And whan happened in the forest was what did it for you, huh?", Angelo asked getting a nod from Will.
"I'm afraid to think about how far he would have went if Micheal hadn't stepped in.", Will said.
"Well what's done is done.", Angelo said. "All we can do now is move on and hope for the best."
"Yeah.", Will said with a smile. "You're right. So let's get back to enjoying the dance."
"I already am.", Angelo said returning the smile Will gave him as they danced to the music.
Once the song was finished, Principal Knickerbocker took the microphone and got the attention of the students there.
"Students! It is now time to announce this years Homecoming Court per your votes.", Knickerbocker said to which the students cheered. "First, we'll start with the Freshman Class."
"I wonder who's going to win Lord and Lady.", Will said.
"You're hoping for Nigel and Taranee.", Angelo said.
"Why not?", Will questioned. "They deserve to win just like the others."
"True.", Angelo said just as Knickerbocker was about to tell who won Mrs. Congeniality.
"Your Freshman Miss Congeniality is, Danna Smith!", Knickerbocker announced getting cheers from the students. "And your Mr. Nice guy is, Frank Willkens!", she announced getting more cheers from the students as the two students walked up to the stage that was set up for the Homecoming Court.
"You may not of won, but your my Mr. Nice Guy.", Hay Lin said as she and Eric held hands.
"And you're my Miss Congineality.", Eric said making Hay Lin smile before they shared a kiss.
"And now for your Homecoming Lord and Lady.", Knickerbocker said. "And seeing as those running were al couples, this makes announcing the winners a bit easy.", sher said with a grin getting a laugh out of the students.
All the nominee couples held hands hoping for their names to be called. And out of all of them, Nigel and Taranee were the most nervous. Well... Taranee more than Nigel.
"And your Homecoming Lord and Lady is...", Knickerbocker said as she opened the envelope. "Andrew Hornby and Sondra Andrews!", she announced getting cheers from most of the students as the couple went up on the stage.
"Oh well.", Micheal said. "There's always next year. Granted we'll be going for Duke and Duchess.", he said to Cornelia as they held hands.
"Looking forward to it.", Cornelia said with a smile before she noticed Taranee and Nigel. "You okay, Taranee?"
"Yeah.", Taranee said with a smile. "It was fun to even be in the running. But even I knew the Nigel and I weren't going to win."
"Don't say that, Taranee.", Nigel said. "For all we know, we could have been a close second."
"Funny you should mention that.", Angelo said as he and Will walked up to them. "I think you should see this.", he said as he pulled out a folded piece of paper.
"What's this?", Taranee asked.
"The results of the Homecoming votes.", Angelo said. "I got them from Knickerbocker yesterday. Check out the votes for Homecoming Lord and Lady."
"Wait a second!", Taranee said as she looked at the votes. "Is this for real?"
"Yep.", Angelo said with a smile.
"What is it?", Will asked as she looked at the paper. "Whoa! Get out!"
"And you doubted yourself.", Cornelia said with a smirk getting a smile out of Taranee.
"Let me see.", Nigel said. "We got third place!?"
"And we got second.", Micheal said looking at the paper.
"And we only lost by three points.", Taranee said smiling.
"Never doubt yourself, Taranee.", Nigel said as he held her hands. "Okay?"
"Okay.", Taranee said before they shared a kiss.
Soon Knickerbocker had announced the Homecoming Court to which all the winners were standing on the stage getting cheers from their fellow students. Once that was done, everybody went back to dancing. Soon some slow music began to play. And it was then that Caleb and Irma made there move.
"May I have this dance?", Caleb asked Will as she was talking with Taranee and Cassidy who were waiting for their dates.
Will then looked at Caleb who gave her a pleading look. Not wanting to hurt the guy's feeling, Will nodded to Caleb who took her hand and walked her out onto the dance floor. As for Irma, she walked up to Matt and...
"Care to dance?", Irma asked.
"Really?", Matt questioned knowing this was coming.
"After all we've been through you can't give me one little dance?", Irma asked in an innocent tone.
Rolling his eyes, Matt took Irma's hand and walked her out onto the dance floor to dance. As for Angelo and Selece, they simply looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders and dance together.
"Well this is an interesting turn of events.", Angelo said as he and Selece danced together.
"You can say that again.", Selece said with a smile. "But I'm not complaining."
"Same here.", Angelo said. "So up for a busy week next week?"
"Next week? Try tomorrow!", Selece said with a grin. "Hay Lin has me and the girls going to the mall tomorrow to get what we need for our Sailor Moon costumes that we'll be wearing for Halloween."
"Looks like Hay Lin is on the ball.", Angelo said. "That and the sooner you all can work on them the costumes."
"True.", Selece said as they continued to dance.
"So I was wondering...", Angelo said.
"Yes?", Selece asked.
"Well, I know that we'll be busy next week and all.", Angelo said. "But would you like to go on a date with me next Saturday?"
"Hmmmm...", Selece said thinking it over. "I don't have any plans for next Saturday. Sure. I'd love to go out with you next Saturday."
"Great!", Angelo said. "Pick you up in the morning?"
"Okay.", Selece said. "Until next Saturday."
"Next Saturday.", Angelo said as they continued to dance to the music.
"So how are things?", Caleb asked Will as they danced.
"Good.", Will said knowing where Caleb was going. "How are things with you and Irma?
"They're going good.", Caleb said. "Dating is still new to me and all, but I'm doing fine."
"That's good.", Will said. "I'm glad that you've moved on."
"I'm trying to.", Caleb said before he looked Will in her eyes. "But there are times I think about you."
"And we're done.", Will said as she tried to back away from Caleb yet he wouldn't let her go. "Let me go, Caleb.", she said in a calm voice.
"Just listen to me please, Will.", Caleb said. "As much as I like dating Irma, I miss what we had. I know that I messed up big, but there has to be a part of you that wants to get back with me."
"I'm sorry, Caleb, but no.", Will said. "What we had was nice but I've moved on. And you should, too. It's for the best.", she said before giving him a kiss on the cheek and walking away.
It was at that moment that Caleb knew that it was over between him and Will. Meanwhile, Irma was dancing with Matt trying to do what Caleb tried to do with Will.
"So how long are you going to be like this before you want me back?", Irma asked Matt as they danced to the music. "I know you miss this.", she said as she pressed up against Matt.
"You are a piece of work, Irma.", Matt said with a grin. "You go and act like you and Caleb are an item and then you pull this. Something told me that you were up to something."
"And yet here we are.", Irma said with a sly smile. "You know that you and I shouldn't have broken up. We're great together."
"Are we?", Matt questioned. "Let me ask you something, Irma. If I didn't have my own band, would you of even notice me?"
"What are you talking about?", Irma questioned.
"You never paid me a bit of attention until you saw me play at that dance two years ago.", Matt said. "Before that you never paid me a bit of attention. And I even asked you out once."
"Well... Okay. So I only noticed you when you played at that dance.", Irma said. "But we made a great couple. And we can be one again, Matt."
"What about Caleb?", Matt questioned. "You know that people will talk."
"Let them.", Irma said. "We're only dating."
"We'll I'm dating someone as well.", Matt said.
"Selece?", Irma questioned with a scoff. "She's dating you and Angelo."
"I Know.", Matt said surprising Irma. "She doesn't know who she wants to be with. So I'm willing to wait."
"And if she picks, Angelo?", Irma asked.
"Then she picks Angelo.", Matt said. "I'll be alright."
"So it's like that, huh?", Irma questioned.
"Afraid so.", Matt said before kissing Irma on the forehead. "Sorry, Irma, but I've moved on. So should you.", he said before walking off to find Selece.
As she stood there alone, Irma knew that any chance of her getting back with Matt was gone. It was then that she felt a hand on her shoulder. Irma turned to see that it was Caleb with a sad look of his own.
"I take it he turned you down.", Caleb said to Irma who nodded.
"You and Will?", Irma asked to which Caleb shook his head. "Looks like we both struck out, huh?"
"Looks like.", Caleb said as they headed out of the gym and into the hallway.
But what they didn't know was that someone was watching them.
Back at the dance, Angelo and Selece were getting down to the new song that was playing when...
"Mind if I come in?", Matt asked as he and Will stood before them.
"No I do not.", Angelo said before he and Matt began to dance together getting a laugh out of Will and Selece.
After their good laugh, Selece and Matt went back to dancing together while Will and Angelo did the same. Both Will and Matt were having a greater time now for they had truly moved on and were happy. Now let's check on our two turned down folks.
"I can't believe Matt turned me down!", Irma said as she paced back and forth in the hallway. "I mean he's dating a girl who's dating him and someone else for crying out loud!"
"I thought I had Will back, but she goes and tells me that she's moved on.", Caleb replied. "And she meant it. It's actually over between us!"
"All that work for nothing!", Irma said as she leaned against the wall with Caleb.
"Wow! You two are two are just sad."
Caleb and Irma looked to see Alchemy standing at the door of the gym with a smirk on her face.
"Go away, Alchemy.", Irma said in an annoyed tone. "Not in the mood for..."
"Me saying that you two were wrong for faking a relationship just to get Will and Matt jealous.", Alchemy said surprising the two of them. "We all knew you two were faking it. You don't need to read minds to see that. All that time trying to make them jealous and it was all for nothing."
"Bite me!", Irma snapped. "At least we didn't come to the dance alone."
"True.", Alchemy said. "But at least I'm not so blind that I don't see a good thing right in front of me."
"And what does that mean?", Caleb questioned.
"It means that while you two were faking a relationship, you failed to see that you had a great thing right in front of you.", Alchemy said to which Caleb and Irma looked at each other for a few seconds before looking away from each other blushing a bit. "Or maybe you did.", she said with a smirk.
"Why don't you go and dance with your date.", Irma said. "Oh wait! You don't have a date!", she said before she and Caleb laughed.
It was then that Stephen came out from the gym and walked up to Alchemy.
"There you are.", Stephen says smiling as he takes Alchemy's hand. "Are you finish taking a break?"
"Sure am.", Alchemy said with a smile as she and Stephen went back into the gym leaving a stunned Caleb and Irma.
Neither said anything as they stood in the hallway thinking about what happened tonight. As for the others they were having a great time at the dance.
"I must say that the balls ono your world are more lively than the ones on Metamoor., Aldern said to Cassidy as they were dancing to the music.
"Well get use to them because I have a feeling that Elyon may have some balls like this in the future.", Cassidy said with a smile.
"And I hope that I can bring you to those balls.", Aldern said with a smile.
"Count on it.", Cassidy said returning the smile as they continued to dance to the music.
"Homecoming rocks!", Hay Lin said as she danced with Eric.
"Totally!", Eric said. "I can't wait until next year! We can run for the same thing again! Or maybe even Duke and Duchess!"
"Spacious!", Hay Lin cheered. "So you ready to start working on your costume for Halloween?"
"You bet!", Eric said. "Just name the time and place."
"Okay.", Hay Lin said as they danced on.
"So how you holding up.", Nigel asked Taranee.
"Pretty well.", Taranee said. "I mean we were so close to beating Cornelia and Micheal. I still can't believe it!"
"Well believe it.", Nigel said smiling. "Now everyone sees you the way I do."
Taranee said nothing as she gave Nigel a kiss that he returned. Both teens smiled at each other before they wen back to dancing to the music.
"You know, as nice as it would have been to win, I'm kind of glad we didn't.", Micheal said to Cornelia.
"Really? Why?", Cornelia asked.
"I don't need others to tell me that you're a regal Lady.", Micheal said getting a smile out of Cornelia.
"Why thank you, Me Lord.", Cornelia said before kissing Micheal on the cheek.
"And thank you, Me Lady.", Micheal said with a smile that Cornelia returned as they danced to the music.
"So where do we go from here?", Stephen asked Alchemy as they danced to the music.
"I don't know really.", Alchemy said with a slight blush. "I mean you coming to me was a bit sudden."
"How about we go on a date and go from there.", Stephen suggested.
"I'd like that.", Alchemy said with a smile that Stephen returned as they danced to the music.
"Well this has been an interesting night.", Selece said as she and Matt sat in some chairs taking a break from dancing.
"You have no idea.", Matt said with a grin.
"I take it that something happened between you and Irma.", Selece said.
"You can say that.", Matt said. "She tried to get back with me. But I turned her away. I'm over her. But I do hope that we can be friends again one day."
"Don't worry. She'll come around.", Selece said. "She can't be mad at you forever. I mean you help us fight evil. She's going to have to get over this amd move on."
"You make some good points there.", Matt said. "So any plans for tomorrow?"
"Well Hay Lin has me and the girls hitting the mall to shop for what we'll be needing to make our Halloween costumes.", Selece said. "But I don't think it'll be all day."
"Then how about you and I get a bite to eat later tomorrow?", Matt asked.
"I'd like that.", Selece said with a smile that Matt returned as they sat together enjoying each others company.
"So how are you liking your first high school dance?", Elyon asked Drake as they danced together.
"It is not like the balls on Metamoor.", Drake said. "Yet they are more fun."
"Glad you like it.", Elyon said. "To bad I can have a dance like this on Metamoor."
"Well you are the queen.", Drake said. "Who says you can't have a ball like this?"
"Wait! I can do that!?", Elyon questioned. "I always figured that I had to follow tradition and go by a certain way of things."
"That is true.", Drake said. "But you can also introduce new things to the kingdom. And I don't see anything wrong with having balls like this."
"Looks like Meridian is in for some exciting times.", Elyon said with a smile that Drake returned as they danced to the music.
"And that's what happened.", Will said to Angelo as they sat in some chairs that were in the hallway as they were taking a break from the dance. "I told Caleb that I've moved on and that he should do the same.", she said as she leaned back in her chair.
"I know that he didn't take that well.", Angelo said as he sat next to Will. "But you did what you had to do."
"Thanks.", Will said with a small smile. "It felt right. Telling Caleb that. I know that he may be upset, but in time he'll be alright."
"I'm sure he will.", Angelo said. "Now as for you, don't go feeling bad when we start seeing Caleb in a funk because he couldn't get back wth you. Okay?"
"Okay.", Will said with a grin as they remained where they were.
"Well this night didn't go as planned.", Caleb said as he and Irma were standing outside the school avoiding Will and Matt. "What are you doing?", he asked Irma when he saw her pull out her cell phone.
"Calling my dad to come pick me up now.", Irma said in an upset tone. "I came here to get Matt back and he says that he has moved on. Well I'm not going to stay here and watch him have a good time with another girl!", she said as her eyes began to well up in tears.
It was then that Caleb walked up to Irma and stopped her from dialing on her phone.
"Don't call your father.", Caleb said. "I'll walk you home. Maybe we can get something to eat along the way."
"It's a long walk.", Irma said. "And I'm not wearing the right kind of shoes for that kind of walk.
"Then we can teleport to your place when you get tired.", Caleb said with a grin which got a smile out of Irma. "What do you say?"
"I say... Let's blow this joint.", Irma said as they left the school grounds together not caring what the others would think.
Back at the dance Sylla was there to help keep things in line. But he had a side mission as well. To keep an eye on the Guardians and their allies. And he was doing his job well.
'All but Lair and Hart are here now.', Sylla thought to himself as he scanned the dance. 'They didn't look to happy after they talked with Olsen and Vandom. If only they knew that they were our eyes and ears we use to spy on them.' he thought as a smirk grew on his face. 'Soon they'll be all taken down and it'll be with the help of two of their own. It's a shame that I'll be leaving this school when our mission is over. I kind of like being a teacher.', he said as he continued to watch over the students as they danced the night away.
A/N: Well that was on heck of a dance! While some got closer, one learned that somebody liked her yet didn't know how to tell her. And while others have moved on, others didn't get what they wanted. Love can be a powerful thing. One can only hope that in the end, everything will work out.
