Jaune Of The Dead: The Final Chapter
Cardin Winchester had collapsed in the middle of class. The news back from the infirmary was that he had died. When he returned to his team's room later that day, it had shocked everyone. The next thing anyone knew, a dozen students had been infected. None of them had been trained to fight their fellow students, so more fell in a matter of hours. Most of the professors at Beacon had also been infected. The infection continued...
Now...
Velvet Scarlatina sat huddled in the corner of a small dust shop in downtown Vale. Hordes of the undead swarmed around in the streets outside, and she could hear their sounds. She was all alone. All she knew was that it was only a matter of time before they found her.
A strange ship had crashed near Beacon, bringing with it some plague worse that the zombie horde. The Flood. Eight students had escaped from Beacon, but the infection spread beyond the school. Another student had also escaped on her own, one Blake Belladonna, and it was later found that she was entirely immune to the Flood. Even with that small ray of hope, the battle for survival raged on...
Now...
The windows shattered and the door was smashed inward. They had found her and they were coming. Velvet buried her head in her arms, not wanting to see them when they came for her. This wasn't how she wanted it to end. The undead shambled forward, drawn to the scent of someone still living.
The zombie hordes had grown hungry, their food supply shrinking as their own numbers grew. They became more violent, and the Flood hadn't let up either. The two different types of infection had joined together, creating an army of unstoppable shambling corpses. Velvet had watched her friends fall one by one. Ren and Nora had gotten separated from the group, surrounded by undead. They had fought hard, and the sounds of their battle had continued on for a long time, but it eventually faded as they got farther and farther away. Ruby and Yang had charged into a swarm, blasting and cutting and pounding their way through, but then they too disappeared. Weiss and Pyrrha had been cornered, and Velvet had even heard one of them cry out after being bitten. She didn't know which one was infected, but her mind told her that they were both gone. Blake and Jaune had led the hordes away from Velvet so that she could make an escape, but instead she had just crawled into a corner to hide. That's where she stayed for twelve hours, and now they were coming for her too.
Now.
One zombie rounded the corner. It looked down the isle and spotted Velvet curled up in the back corner. The fiendish creature let out a ghastly wail and started wobbling its way over to her. Then, when all hope seemed lost, a battle cry split the air.
Or at least that's what Velvet assumed it was. It was shouted like a battle cry, though what in particular was shouted didn't seem like battle cry material.
"DRAMATIC ENTRANCE!"
The undead exploded, and standing in its place was none other than Jaune, a knight in shining armor. He turned to the next zombie and ran it through with his sword.
"Take that, you foul beast!"
Velvet jumped up, excited to see that he had come to her rescue. "Jaune, is it really you?"
Jaune, spinning and slicing another two zombies in half, stopped only long enough to give her a confidant nod. "Indeed it is, my damsel in distress. I am here to protect you from the legions of darkness! I was only absent long enough for me to return to Beacon and retrieve my weapon."
Velvet cheered as Jaune dispatched another undead fiend. "My hero!"
Jaune walked up behind Velvet, who was engrossed in what she was writing. He waited a moment before speaking up. "Hey, Velvet. What are you writing?"
Velvet let out a panicked squeak and shoved the paper into her mouth, then answered around a mouthful of story. "Nothing."
