A/N This is a spin off from my short LizziexSebastian story 'Soul Corruption'. This one shot however is much shorter and also rated T. It takes place after the events of chapter 3 but before the events at the Poppy Club in chapter 4. There are a lot of references to 'Soul Corruption' and this is meant as a sidepiece (can be a standalone though). Please read 'Soul Corruption' if you want this to make more sense.
The flowers in the garden of the townhouse were blooming a beautiful blue. The small shaped petals created an azure sea as the suns rays beat down; some had fallen from the flower and lay on the ground. Elizabeth thought it was sad how quickly they wilted. To go from such striking harmonious groupings to a single trampled little petal.
She stared at the petal. It was that shade of blue.
Beautiful but cold, with a hidden depth of swirling emotion, which could never be named in single moment.
As she bent down to look at them closer she noticed the leaves on the flowers were a dark red-ish purple colour. They were hidden away and out of sight, but the leaves grew in such a way that they propped the position of the petals up, showing off the flower in an ostentatious and obvious manner.
Her thoughts drifted to the kiss he had given her after what happened with Ciel last night. In that singular moment as the butler held her close, she had claimed to hate the crow. Yet her heart swelled and quickened when their lips met and when his tongue became entangled with hers. Elizabeth had been more vulnerable than she had ever been last night, physically and emotionally, but as he held her she placed a – misguided – trust in him.
He returned this trust by respecting her wishes and carrying her like a doll to one of the guest chambers and tucking her up in the large bed like she was 12 years old again. It felt wonderful, for just a moment, to have someone you trust entirely look after you when you could not care for yourself.
Why though? Why did she trust him? He was a morally bankrupt man. His loyalty was to Ciel, he killed on a single order without hesitation and there was something…off about the butler that she could not place. He did have this quality, an air about him. An air that was becoming ever more entrancing to her and God knows why, but she was beginning to be attracted to him.
This was the same man who tricked her into his bed on her honeymoon and convinced her that following Ciel's plans to kill Lady Drake was a necessity.
She thought he must be a devil.
"Ridiculous." She said aloud and Elizabeth shook herself out of silly and farfetched thoughts and walked around the gardens. She watched a butterfly for a while as it flitted from the rose buds and the tall summer-green hedges. The weather was pleasant with a few wisps of clouds and the sun shone brightly. The maroon of his eyes snaked back into her mind. How they bore into her bright green ones as if looking straight at her soul. Silly thoughts.
She could still see the blue of the flowers from the corner of her eye the hue of the petals stood bright even amongst all the others and her mood suddenly darkened. She thought about what Sebastian had said about her not being able to tell Ciel that she loved him. Surely it was merely the situation that had caused her silence not that her feelings had changed. She looked over her shoulder to check she was alone
"I love him." There she said it. It was not so hard "I love him."
A large cloud suddenly hid the sun and an ice chill flew through the air. The weather now matched her expression and she quickly made her way back inside.
