Taste In Music?

I don't know about you, but I've been wondering about what the different characters from RWBY like to listen to. They can't all be Jeff Williams fans, can they?

Team RWBY was sitting around in their room, enjoying the weekend. Yang was frantically searching for something on the computer, Blake was reading a book, and Ruby was listening to music. Weiss had just gotten back from shopping, so she was unloading her cargo. In the room across the hall, team JNPR was doing similar but different stuff. Ren was teaching Pyrrha how to cook, as the warrior girl was quite useless in the kitchen. Jaune was hiding in the corner with the phone, embarrassed to be talking to his mother. Finally, Nora was playing video games, and in particular Super Smash Bros Brawl, and she was going through classic mode as Captain Falcon on the intense difficulty setting.

Now that we've set the setting, let's prod them in the direction the chapter is supposed to go.

Opening the window to let the smoke out, Ren heard a strange sound from outside. He looked down and saw team CRDL, and they had a boombox among them. The sound that came out of it was familiar to him, and he heard the words ringing through the air. And they went something like this...

"Cause we all just wanna be big rock stars and live in hilltop houses driving fifteen cars..."

Ren closed the window again. "I have decided that today we will suffocate."

Pyrrha looked crestfallen. "You're giving up on me?"

Ren pointed at the window. "Cardin is out there playing Nickelback on a boombox."

Pyrrha looked over to the shelf where the team's own radio sat. "Oh, well, maybe we should play some of our own music instead."

He shrugged. "To cleanse the air? Sure."

Pyrrha stepped over to the radio. It had the regular FM and AM settings, as well as a CD player. Because they didn't want to risk sitting through whatever the radio stations wanted to play, she decided it was better to pick something from her own collection. She turned to her bed and reached under, sliding out her collection. It wasn't very big, but everything in it was a masterpiece. She slid the first CD into the player and pressed play. The music filled the room.

"RONRII GAARU wa itsu made mo todokanai yumemite
Sawagu atama no naka wo kakimawashite, kakimawashite."

It continued playing while Pyrrha noticed the vacant looks her team was giving her. "What?"

Nora spoke for all of them. "What the falcon is that?"

Pyrrha couldn't believe it. "You guys... don't like Vocaloid?"

Jaune hung up the phone and walked over to Pyrrha. "Maybe we should try something everyone likes."

Ren shrugged. "I don't think there's anything everyone likes."

Nora jumped up, holding one of her own CD's. "How about this?" She ran forward, taking out Pyrrha's CD and tossing it over her shoulder as she inserted her own. "Everyone loves this kind of music!"

Ren jumped up. "Nora! No! That's-"

Ren and Jaune were sent flying. Pyrrha, who had just caught her CD, was flipped head over heels. When they're hearing finally returned after the initial blast, they heard the words screaming out from the speakers.

"Far beyond our boundary a danger has emerged
far out in the black it's getting ready to attack
cold and tearless retinas are staring at the world
raiders from an ancient land where life came to an end
worlds are colliding but onwards we're riding
to get to the core the center of all
the iron fist will make the tyrants fall!"

It ended by Ren's hand. He took the CD out and handed it back to Nora. "Now is not the time for that."

Nora pouted, but took her CD back while grumbling under her breath. "Every time is Iron Savior time."

Ren put his own music in instead. "Now is not Iron Savior time. Now is Linkin Park time."

And the music played...

"I remembered black skies, the lightning all around me
I remember each flash as time began to blur..."

Jaune waved his hands. "No, I'm sorry, Ren. I can't enjoy Linkin Park. Can I just put my music on. I'm sure it's something everyone can enjoy."

Acquiescing to his leader's request, Ren removed his CD and stepped back, allowing Jaune to slide his own CD into the player. And it went like this...

"Why you want to tell me how to live my life?
Who are you to tell me if it's black or white?"

Just then, Ruby and the rest of her team busted down the door. Ruby announced the reason they had come. "We heard the sounds of music coming from this room! We decided it was best to guide you innocent young children in the ways of real music!"

Jaune sighed, seeing that each of the four girls had brought a CD of their own. He calmly stopped the music and removed his CD.

Ruby stepped past Jaune, smiling at him. "Bon Jovi? Respectable, but listen to this."

In went Ruby's CD, and then...

"Red like roses fills my dreams and brings me to the place you rest.
White is cold and always yearning, burdened by a royal test.
Black the beast descends from shadows.
Yellow beauty burns... gold."

Yang shoved her sister aside. "Yeah, that's great, Ruby. We all know you like Jeff Williams. Time for some real music." She tossed Ruby her CD and put her own in its place. "Woooo! Let's party!"

"I wake up in the morning feeling like P-Diddy
Grab my glasses, I'm out the door, I'm gonna hit this city."

Blake opened the CD player, picked it up, and shook Yang's CD out of it. The blond barely caught it before it hit the ground. Blake glared at her. "Ke$ha? Seriously? No, I think we need some actual talent. Here, listen to this, everyone."

And in went Blake's CD...

"When I was a young boy my father took me into the city to see a marching band
He said, 'Son, when you grow up would you be the savior of the broken, the beaten, and the damned?'
He said, 'Will you defeat them, the demons and all the non-believers, the plans that they have made?'
'Cause one day I'll leave you, a phantom to lead you in the Summer and join the Black Parade'"

Weiss cleared her throat. "The Black Parade? My Chemical Romance? Blake, how about the original? You know, the place serious music started. The undeniable end all for true music. Step down, kitty-cat. I got this."

Blake obliged, removing her music, but giving Weiss a worried look. "What are you going to do, Weiss?"

Weiss pushed her obvious mixed CD into the player. "What am I going to do? Why, this, of course!"

"With a bang! Say good bye to everything cause complete inhalation is the reason he came
and a pow! He's wiping everything out, turn your whole BOOPing world into a mushroom cloud
and a boom! It your inevitable doom, nobody escapes and everybody's consumed..."

Ruby and Yang were struck dumb. Ren and Pyrrha just stared on in shock. Jaune fainted. Nora looked confused. Blake covered her ears. Weiss was having fun. And then the door, which had mysteriously righted itself, was kicked down. In the doorway was Cardin, wielding his boombox, drowning out the sound of Weiss' music.

Cardin laughed at the suddenly startled heiress. "What up, BOOPes? I thought you might want a little of this! Here, enjoy!"

The next morning, the school faculty investigated the finding of nine students almost mummified in duct tape among the remains of various CD's and CD playing equipment. Most students investigated simply claimed to know nothing on the matter. Only one Velvet Scarlatina bothered to comment.

"Some of us do have rather sensitive ears, you know." She flicked her hair over her shoulder and sassed her way back to her room.

Author's Note: Thanks to frik1000 for reminding me that this is a good idea. Here are the names of the artists and songs.

Nickelback - Rockstar
Vocaloid - Rolling Girl (I hope, anyways)
Iron Savior - Tyranny Of Steel
Linkin Park - New Divide
Bon Jovi - Have A Nice Day
Jeff Williams - Red Like Roses
Ke$ha - Tik Tok
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
Insane Clown Posse - Bang! Pow! Boom!

Also, Velvet likes Mike Oldfield. In particular, Songs Of Distant Earth. I personally suggest all of these artists and songs, and no ill intent is directed towards them here. I will say, however, that if you are under eighteen I would not suggest that you investigate ICP or Ke$ha or MCR or Linkin Park. If you listen and don't like it (or are scarred for life) it is of your own doing. Just fair warning, y'all. Melanie out.
