Silence. That was it. We sat in my room. The walls would start talking if they could to cover up the silence between us two. My parents had to go sleep at my grandmothers house. At first, it was only my mom who was going. My dad saw how miserable she was and decided to accompany her. And since he is a doctor, it could be helpful. I, of course, stayed at home. I know I said I would visit her with my parents the next time they went. But.. It was an emergency, she had just gotten home from an unexpected visit at the hospital and she couldn't be alone, for her own good. I called Quinn as soon as my parents left and she came over directly. She didn't even hesitate or ask me why. She just came. I was happy to have her with me even if we just sat quiet on my bed.
"Talk to me about it" she said, taking out a cigarette. I ususally wouldn't allow someone to smoke in my room but I couldn't care less that moment. "You'll feel better, I promise"
"I just don't know what to say" I sighed.
"You're sad. I can see it"
"Of course I'm sad, Quinn" I jeered. "I'm so worried about her"
"She'll make it.. If she's your grandmother I bet she's strong woman" the corners of her mouth curved. She took a long puff and looked back at me. She went up to open the window. She ashed the cigarette out the window, leaning her elbows on the windowsill. "I'm here for you, no matter what happens" she said.
"I know you are" I didn't feel like talking much. And I knew it was obvious.
Silence.
"Look," she butted the only half smoked cigarette on the outside of the house from the window and threw it out. I would have to explain that for my parents if they saw the cigarette outside my window "maybe you need to get out" she sat down beside me again.
"Out? Now?," I said "do I really look like I should be going out?"
"I'm just saying, it might make you feel better. Christopher, I don't know if you remember him-"
"Oh I do" I sassed.
"Well yeah," she smiled "everyone is hanging out at his place.. We can go if you want to? I thought about stopping by later anyway"
"Quinn.." I fought to speak.
"What? I'm trying to make you happier.."
"Then just stay here. Don't go anywhere" I looked at the still face.
"That's what you want?"
"Yes. It's the only thing I want. Just stay, will you?"
"Okay" she held my hand. "I'll stay"
"Thank you" I mumbled.
"Do you want me make you something to eat?" she offered.
"I'm fine," I said "I know you only can cook chicken"
"Well, I can try" she laughed.
"It's okay. I'm not hungry"
Silence took over again. I was exhausted becuase of all the feelings. The worst thing about it was that they were mixed up. I had no control over them. They were unorganized. I felt like sleeping, my head became so heavy - or it felt like it did. I just wanted to lay down. I leaned back and rested my back and head on the bed. Everything from the knees and down was hanging outside the edge of the bed. Quinn was still holding my hand. After I gave her one look she laid down beside me. The exact same position. We were just two hand holding - roof staring teenagers at the moment. Long moments of pure silence passed. Both of us stared up at nothing, at emptiness. She took a harder grip of my hand. I couldn't help but always feel so damn safe whenever she was with me. Even though to others, Quinn was mean, she had bad habits or did stupid things.. To me, she was just Quinn. She wasn't mean or someone who did stupid things.. She was just that one girl who in a twisted, unexpected way stole my heart.
"You're so special" she whispered into my ear, her hand now resting on my belly.
I felt myself getting warmer. And it wasn't because my room was hot. I kept staring up at the roof. I didn't know what to say. I felt that nervous, excited lump grow faster than the speed of light in my chest. It all became worst when I turned my head and looked at her. The graceful shoulder long hair was perfectly fallen with just a strand of it covering a small part of her cheek. Still, it bothered me that I couldn't see all of her face. Every single part. I brushed the hair strand back with my fingers and watched her greedily scan my face with the caramel eyes.
"I am?"
"You are" she assured.
I sat up on the bed, pushing myself back to rest my head on the pillow instead of leaving half my legs hanging outside the bed. Quinn sat up right after me. However, she didn't lay down beside me. She sat down beside my legs. My subdued room took out the most fascinating features of her face. The gaunt fingers slipped under my shirt, brushed against my stomach, up to my chest - sending shivers through me like never before. I turned around as a sign for her to wrap herself around me. I felt her warm body cling against mine as her head was right by my shoulder. She tightly put her arm around my waist.
"I'm almost your first everything.. Except from kiss" she chuckled.
"You were my first real kiss"
My first everything. I was sure then more than ever that no one could take her place. I finally understood the word love. The feeling. It was all I ever yearned for - thought about - wished to feel. And I got it, nothing stood in my way. For once. I felt so close to her in a way I can't describe. The warmth of her breath brushed against my neck everytime she opened her mouth to give me a kiss or two.
Her hold of me tightened another bit and I scooched closer into her. I could stay like that forever and a little more. The moment was disturbed by a phone call. It wasn't my phone. She got up and picked her jeans of the floor, took the phone out and declined the call.
"Who was it?"
"My mom" she said, looking down at the screen. "It's getting late.. Will you be okay?"
"Do you have to leave?"
"I need to get home sometime" she joked "my mother is probably waiting up for me"
"I thought you were some kind of rebel, huh" I teased. I stood up and held her from behind. "Pretty please?"
"To hell with my mom.." she threw the phone back into the jeans pocket and laughed. I was happy I convinced her to stay so easily.
"Okay but you still need to tell her you're here"
"Right, I forgot about that" she picked the phone up again. The whole situation got messy and just something to laugh at. Quinn texted her mother and told her she was staying at my place. "Let's get back to bed.. I miss it already" she wrapped herself around me.
The rest of the night went on the same way. We were clasped on each other until midnight passed. After that, we slipped under the covers and put a movie on. Halfway into the movie, she had fallen asleep. I tried getting up just to turn it off but her arms forced me to stay, even in her sleep it was impossible to get lose from her grip. So I stayed. Eventually, I fell asleep as well.
The next morning I woke up alone. Quinn wasn't next to me. I looked around and her clothes and everything were gone. I quickly jumped out of the bed and looked around the house. I went to the kitchen and looked out the window, her car was still there. I sighed in relief and went back to my room and got dressed. I put on a skirt that covered my scar, a bit longer than the cheerleading skirts we used to wear. I picked out a matching grey shirt and decided to walk out and see where Quinn was. I opened the door and there she was. Sitting on the porch with a cigarette in her hand. I sat down beside her and looked at the clock on my phone. Ten thirty. I usually woke up around nine.
"I hope you weren't planning on leaving without telling me" I said.
"Of course not. I needed to smoke, so I went out.. You were sleeping, I didn't want to wake you up" she took a puff.
We were quiet and I just watched her finish the cigarette in her hands. The sun struck only one side of her face, the other side was shadowed by the fence. Her hair looked like it needed to be combed and her eyes were a little puffy. It looked like she had just woken up too so I figured she woke up just some minutes before me.
"Quinn?" I said when she was done smoking.
"Yes"
"Thank you so much for last night.. You know, for staying with me. I know I would be even worse if I was alone"
"Don't worry about it. I'm your girlfriend, I will always be here for you"
"Let's go in, we can make breakfast. I can teach you how to make them"
"Hey," she laughed "what makes you think I can't make pancakes?" she let out a giggle.
"Maybe you can, but mine are probably better"
We walked into the kitchen and I took out all the ingridients. Flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, butter, milk and eggs. Quinn was watching my every move, like she really wanted to learn. She moved closer and stood beside me to get a closer look of everything.
"You seem like a pro" she said. "Do you cook a lot?" she asked.
"Not really, but my grandmother thaught me a lot everytime she was babysitting me. Even when I got older, we had cooking sessions everytime I was at her place" I explained.
"Wow.. My mom never thaught me to do anything. Not to sound like a snob but I never had to do anything at home. I'm slowly regretting it, I wish I knew how to make something as easy as pancakes at least" she smiled.
"I can't believe you don't know how to make pancakes" I said as I mixed the ingridients together.
"I never cook, I'm telling you" she said.
"Okay.. Okay, put the frying pan on the stove" I directed. "And put a little bit oil in it. Not too much" I said and she did it. "I think this needs a bit more flour.. Could you please? My hands are messy"
"Sure" she took a half cup of flour and held it over the bowl. Then, instead of putting it inside the mix, she threw the flour on my face. "Totally worth it" she laughed.
"Quinn!" I yelled. "You'll see!" I took a hand full of the mix and caught her by the collar of her shirt. I spread it all over her face. She tried to fight it put she was laughing too hard to be able to put all her strenght into pushing me off.
"You're going to regret that, Santana" she smirked and even with her face covered in all of that, she looked gorgeous. She walked towards the bowl and grabbed it.
"No, no way!" I said and quickly ran as fast as I could away from her. "No!" I said with laughter in my voice as she got closer.
"I told you" she was quick.
"Quinn!" I fought to sound serious - I failed "we're supposed to eat that!" she was three steps away from me.
"No... You are!" she tackled me so I fell down on the floor.
"No! Stop, stop it right now" I couldn't control my chuckling. It was getting out of hand. She sat right on top of me so I couldn't move and started turning the bowl over and I could see the mix moving in there.
"Are you ready?" she smirked.
"Quinn don-" and my face was covered in panncake mix. "Oh my... God"
"Let's see," she brushed her finger along my cheek and licked the bit of mix of it "it's good, you did a great job"
"You're going to hell, Quinn Fabray" I still laughed uncontrollably.
