Final Destination
Disclaimer: I do not own Super Smash Brothers Brawl or any of the characters. I only own Sun-Wong, Isaak, Himeno, Roger, Aqua, Mcenche, Pepper (me), Li, Abbigale, Queen Neptune, Prince Pluto, Emperor Apollo, Queen Hinata, Queen Zoe, Prince Henry, Queen Crystal, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Nina and the little bat Hoshi-Tsuki but not who he is. Zelina and Sao belong to Zelina56. I also own Fuyumi, Ian, Wright, Arachne, the Angel Assembly and the archangels.
Summary: Palutena and Kaguju forced Tsusuki behind the door where he's regaining his strength fast. Sacrifices have to be made with the Smashers this time to allow Palutena to have enough strength to defeat this evil forever.
Me: The final battle is here! I tried my best for a good action scene on how it would play out in Smash Brothers. I haven't been doing that with my other battles but yeah…enjoy!
Chapter 48: Final Destination
"He's back in Subspace?!" Pit asked rather loudly. Oh how he hated that word so much especially since the Great Maze made him want to sit at the checkpoint and cry. It was a group effort to go through the entire journey all over again and Tabuu probably did that to stall for time. If Sonic could just run through the completed maze though then it was pointless.
"That's what Palutena said Captain Tip." Kaguju repeated to the white angel. "And with that asshole back in his home world with all of those Aeons, he's going to be at full force if we don't follow him immediately."
"Then why would you have to send him back?" Ike questioned. "It will make things more difficult for you when he comes back at full power."
"For my angels," Palutena said simply as she glanced at the royal bodyguards. "This way, they will be kept out of harm's way while I deal with Tabuu personally."
"You?"
"Kaguju, I entrust you to get rid of any demon left in Angel Land."
"Huh? But I want to kick his ass! I won't have a distraction this time!"
"Excuse me for being an angel shield…" Ginger growled. He didn't like the purple haired angel now with a statement like that…even if he didn't attack him.
"Kaguju, this is serious. I do not intend to banish Tabuu again. That was my big mistake to think he would repent, so I will defeat him and bring him to justice in this angel court. So you don't have to worry about me getting my hands dirty."
"Ha ha…I never thought about that Palutena..."
"If you know this, then prepare to take the royal bodyguards out and send them to the fourth division. By the time I come back, I expect them to be healed, especially Isaak."
Himeno was already working on Isaak at this point after that landing. She was quick to heal his wounds so that he no longer in danger of dying from blood loss.
"And while you're at it Kaguju, please bring me the Smashers outside. I think their names are Fox and Marth."
"Uhh…too many orders."
"Also, Pit, Ike and Sonic can stay."
Sonic was just happy to get inside the room now after being forced out. Yuna was kind enough to restore his stamina so he wouldn't have to ask the Goddess of Light to do it for him. Ike had to admit Sonic went from having a breakdown to being able to smirk again ready to jump into the final battle against Tabuu again like the last time.
"Everyone else, please leave."
Abbigale glared at the Goddess though. "Honestly Lady Palutena, we save you and you want us all to leave when you're going to give your outrageous plans. Fine, we are leaving. Valerie, Ian, come with me and we will wait for them to bring back with our criminal. Lady Palutena I will be back shortly."
"Yes ma'am!" The siblings shouted as they trailed after the old woman. Valerie stopped to look at the white angel before mumbling something under his breath and rushing off. The royal bodyguards slowly picked themselves up. Pit made sure to check up on all the angels (and wanted clarification on who Ginger and Rita were) before they all limped out of the room. Pit prayed that the German angel would survive this battle (because the angel needed to ask them where Roger was. They wouldn't tell him now, but that might have been for the best).
Kaguju had to be heaved out of the room because of his clinginess to the Goddess. Pit might have slipped the middle finger if the purple haired angel continued to stay around his Goddess. He then was the first to go up to her and embrace her.
"Lady Palutena! I missed you!"
"Pit…this really isn't the time now…but I missed you too…and I'm glad you're back with us…and I have everyone to thank…especially you two. Thank you…Ike and Sonic for saving my child."
Pit wasn't use to being referred to as "her child" so his cheeks flared a rosy pink. Sonic just rubbed his own in rose while Ike gave his full attention to the Goddess.
"Aww shucks. Pit's our friend. Of course we wouldn't leave him. I mean, Red would have come too if he didn't suffer such horrible injuries."
"What do you mean?"
"He got impaled everywhere…he had to stay on the Comet Observatory."
"Oh…"
"But he's a tough one Pit, you can bet he'll be swinging after all of this is over."
"Yeah…I hope so."
Ike chuckled as a response. "I fight for my friends. It's only natural I protect Pit."
The bluenette wanted to say lover but he would get a laugh by repeating his victory quote. Pit couldn't help but laugh not thinking about the friend zone implication.
Eventually, Fox and Marth were brought into the room. The old lady made sure that no one else would eavesdrop on the Goddess and the Smashers.
"Sonic, you're okay!" Fox exclaimed. He resisted himself from hugging the blue hedgehog though in fear that Falco could see him from miles away.
"You're alive. Don't mess up again."
Pit waved toward Marth who just smiled. Roy's body was taken out of the room and the Prince of Altea could see that his lover was going to be okay, so he could speak to the Goddess of what her plans were.
"I'm sure you're all wondering why I called you in here."
"What happened to Tsusuki?" Fox questioned.
"Lady Palutena sent him through a black hole into Subspace." Pit explained. "Spoiler alert: Tsusuki is Tabuu."
"…What."
"What?!"
Well I guess Abbigale didn't tell them. In retrospect, it did make sense that this man who was trying to ruin the heavens was the same man who tried to pull multiple worlds into his Subspace.
"Thanks for updating us Pit. I want you all to know that Tabuu is regaining his power in Subspace. It won't be like last time where you could attack him until he was down. This man is in his own universe with the seven chaos emeralds and the Aeons. He won't be taken down that easily without consequence."
"So what's the plan Lady Palutena?" Pit asked immediately.
"It's actually very simple Pit. I'm not at full powers so I cannot defeat Tabuu on my own. If I go into his home turf, I might not make it out in one piece." Palutena explained. "Or I might end up killing him because of it. The goal is to defeat him and bring him back alive so he can face his crimes. Banishing people simply doesn't work anymore. I need you Smashers to do as much damage to Tabuu as you can and wait for my signal. If you guys can destroy what makes him dangerous, then the universe will be saved. If we lose here in Subspace, he'll just come back to the heavens and wipe everything out."
"…So you want us to give up our lives for you?" Fox ended up asking. "You're saying we have to be your shield and could very well die from this?"
"Yes. This is a different Subspace where if you die that's it. I can't guarantee reviving or reincarnation in any shape or form."
"I'm in!" Pit declared immediately without thinking. "I beat him once, and I'll beat him again! How dare that bastard attack by Goddess, harm my family and destroy my home! How dare he tricked me as a child and made me his puppet! I won't forgive him for his actions! As the servant of the Goddess of Light! He! Is! History!"
The fact the angel posed made the others just look at him. One could probably see tumbleweed blowing in the background afterward.
"Well at least he's enthusiastic." Ike said with a laugh. Pit being able to bounce back from the depths of despair was needed at a time like this. "If he's going to jump in recklessly, I have to pursue him of course."
"I hope Tabuu likes his wings breaking again." Sonic said with a chuckle. "He's not going to get away with what he did to me."
That left the other two Smashers and their decision.
"Let's see, Tabuu screwed my Arwing during that whole mess the first time around. He made me moody by taking Falco away, he got me into that horrible chipmunk state and I almost died from it. There might be consequences when this is all over too so yeah…I think I'll join and kick his ass."
"As for me, I will not tolerate Tabuu harming Roy. He has gone through enough because of me. He may be safe now, but what if we don't stop him and goes after Roy again? I cannot let this man continue his tyranny, so I will lend you my sword in battle."
It was determined they would all give up their lives to take down Tabuu. If all the Smashers went in, perhaps there would be no casualties but with how many of them fought against a fortress boss, she didn't want to take the risks.
Palutena smiled but it was it wasn't filled with the warmth that it would usually have. Perhaps it was because the light on her scepter was glowing while the Smashers were making their declaration to defeat Tabuu.
Li, you want to fight too I assume?
Hell yeah! Let me kill that bastard! I hate owing anyone anything, especially you!
Oh Li, I really hope you know we did not abandon you.
You can say that but I'm not convinced…but I won't let him to run off without receiving punishment for hurting Isaak. He's an idiot…but I don't want him to die.
Palutena grabbed Li's soul before Isaak was taken out of the room for medical treatment. Because Isaak was allowing Li to use his body for a short period of time before he would disappear, Li would be sucking the life force out of the angel if he didn't get a new body soon. Palutena would make one after the battle so she put him into her scepter where he could watch until the time was right. Perhaps he would have a form in Subspace where Tabuu created his butterfly form in the first place.
So let me have the finishing blow on him. I just need a few good punches!

If you're asking if he touched me, no…he was too cowardly to do so…he was always a coward but I...
You will get your chance Li. Just be patient. Palutena looked up to see that someone came in from the top of the palace using her magic. "Well you sure know how to make an entrance Rosalina."
"I came to help warp everyone behind the door." Rosalina explained with her elegant voice calming everyone's nerves. "If you have me send you, then you can save your energy Palutena."
"How thoughtful of you." Palutena said with a pleasant smile. "I just wished you came through here sooner."
"Palutena, I will have you know it is not easy to just teleport from my home to your palace when there is interference. Tabuu is not here so I can appear where I please."
"Palutena, please be respectful to the Queen of the Cosmos." Abbigale hissed at the green haired Goddess.
"I know, I know."
Rosalina turned toward the other Smashers. "You all need to gather in the center. I do not want to mess up this spell and send you to another part of the galaxy."
"Wouldn't be the first time…" Fox grumbled to himself seeing as he's been zipping around so much in his Arwing.
"Hey, can you take me with you when you're done?" Sonic asked with a cute grin on his face. The Fox blushed seeing it but didn't want to make the promise now that everyone knew.
"Maybe if you behave."
"Hey!"
The Goddess giggled at the fight as she walked toward them. Pit was quick to be at her side causing Abbigale to mumble about how Pit was such a dog to the Goddess.
"We will pray for you." Abbigale said as she intended to use her magic to assist with the teleportation. "Make it out in one piece."
"Oh we will old hag. Don't worry about it."
"What did you say you little snot?! You may have beaten me possessed but if I was going all out-"
"Pit, I expect you to keep your mouth shut until we find Tabuu."
The angel took her advice literally and closed his mouth refusing to breath in the process. This could only turn out well. Rosalina floated into the air twirling her wand around. The magic circled around the Smashers and the Goddess. Abbigale raised her sword and shot a light from it to support the teleportation.
"Good luck." Rosalina said as they were sent to the other realm. She frowned the minute they were gone because it would require more power to bring them back…
Subspace was always an eerie location for the Smashers. No place has ever been devoid of emotions as this one and the only thing keeping them company were the enemies that Tabuu created to kill the Smashers. For people like Sonic who thrived on the wildlife, taking his first step into Subspace always made him shiver in fear and make him want to run back and never return while someone like Pit would feel completely drained at how dark and creepy the place was.
This time was no exception but the air this time around was suffocating. Palutena put up a barrier around the Smashers to not feel the chill that was engulfing the area. It wouldn't kill them to step out of the barrier but it allowed for a calmer mind. The angel was still holding his breath causing Palutena to sigh in annoyance.
"Pit, you can breathe again."
The angel gasped the minute she said that and began coughing. It was amazing how much of an idiot he was around the Goddess. Ike had to admit, he never really saw this side of the angel at Smash Brothers Mansion…probably because he closed himself off more than others realized.
"So where is Tabuu?" Marth questioned the Goddess.
"He's behind the door." Palutena explained.
So they were at the checkpoint area just like the last time. The difference was the lack of trophies in the background that looked like a row of graves waiting to be filled. It was simply darkness with purple, blue and pink strips surrounding the area. Pit wondered which was worse.
"Alright, let's kick his ass!" Pit declared as he opened the door for everyone. A huge gust exited the room almost causing Pit to be blown away, but he stood his ground. He could feel Tabuu on the other side and wanted to charge in guns blazing. The group walked together into the room though to see Tabuu facing away from them, his wings was even bigger than when they fought him originally.
He gained his powers so fast. Palutena thought to herself as she didn't want to think she was starting to sweat feeling the enormous power from them.
"So you Smashers decided to stop running and face me." He mocked. "So glad for you to join me in my home turf."
"You're still going to lose." Palutena snarked. Pit was quick to step in front of her ready to destroy Tabuu.
"Lose? How can I? I should be thanking you and your annoying…attachment." He chuckled. "You both thought it would be wise to finish me off here? You chose to fight me here instead of dealing with me in your home world? Too worried that the angels would be killed? You'll all going to die once I'm done with you." His grin widened at the thought. Normally his face wasn't visible in his original form, but the countenance expression was made visible with the next comment. "Just thinking about ripping your head off and showing it to your followers makes me shiver in anticipation."
"You lay one hand on Lady Palutena and it's your head I'll be serving to my friends!" Pit shouted.
"Pit…I don't think eating a head has proven to be anything that isn't positive…" She snarked at her angel unfazed by Tabuu's threat of murdering her gruesomely.
"Huh? Why?"
"Pit, us divine beings don't like being served body parts of a dead human. Remember that in the future."
"Oh…"
Tabuu was not impressed with Palutena's indifference to the situation.
"Alright Tabuu, come down here and I'll kick your butt!" Pit cried but was held back by Marth who unsheathed his sword. "Hey! What is happening?"
"Pit, I'll go first. No need to tire yourself up now. Just focus on protecting the Goddess."
"Will you be okay?" Ike questioned.
"Yes. I need to pay him back for what he did to Roy so I want to do the most damage to him before I get sent flying."
Tabuu laughed at how Marth worded it. The angel was forced to cave into Marth's demands. When the Prince of Altea stepped up to the plate though, he was separated from the other Smashers by another large barrier.
"Enough with these barriers!" Pit yelled on the other side. "We'll just break them!"
"Oh, the barrier will disappear. Only after the Smasher is dead."
"You think I would die that easily?" The bluenette asked. "I have lost my kingdom and worked my way through the entire kingdom just to reclaim what I have lost. I have protected my realm from evil on multiple occasions." He scowled. "When I was told that soldiers of my own disappeared, I left right away and I ended up in Subspace instead. I will not tolerate your traps. With this sword, I will cut you down."
"Good luck with that. I'm at full power!"
Tabuu immediately started with the off waves. Marth sidestepped the three waves as soon as they appeared. When they hit the barrier it caused the entire area to shake causing Sonic and Pit to nearly lose their balance. Marth slowly realized that he was being elevated higher and that there would be nothing saving him. Not like he needed saving. He had a secret weapon not allowed in Smash Brothers because it was overpowered. Tabuu eyed him suspiciously seeing Marth take out a shield from his cape and attaching it to his arm.
"Oh, what a cute shield."
"It's the Fire Emblem." Marth explained. "It has all five gems inside. No one will have to fight if I take you out right here."
Tabuu didn't seem the list bit interested in the history lesson. That would be one of his biggest mistakes in this battle as Marth charged him with the shield. Marth could afford to mess up with the shield on him because it deflected attacks like Pit's Mirror Shield and allowed the power inside of him to increase. It didn't matter if Tabuu was at full power, Marth was matching him with the Fire Emblem. If only there was a divine being who could allow him to perform the Awakening…he couldn't do it though when Palutena was below trying to save her energy.
Tabuu threw everything at the prince: blue bullets, a blue ray of light and his own arms but Marth wasn't flinching at this point. Every time Tabuu left himself wide open, Marth would get a critical hit in. The prince was graceful in battle swinging his sword like he was dancing while dodging the sharp objects directed toward him. Not once did he let his arrogance come into battle when he got a clean hit on Tabuu's neck. Hearing Tabuu screaming from below, Pit and Sonic began to cheer louder.
"Get him Marth!" Sonic yelled. "Kick his ass!"
"I know you're winning even though I can't see!" Pit added.
The villain was getting annoyed with the loss of blood now. Perhaps the scream was an exaggeration or he really did lose more health then he intended but he now saw how dangerous this shield was. It was the source of Marth's strength making him fearless. Even his off wave move failed to slow the prince down the slightest.
"…That's a nice shield…" He began. "…Would be a shame if something happened to it."
Tabuu extended his arms to reach for the shield. When Marth twirled around his arms, he left his other body parts open subjected to being grabbed by the leg successfully tripping him. When Marth attempted to parry Tabuu, the Fire Emblem was knocked out of his hands. It landed next to Palutena causing her to lose focus.
"Shoot…" Marth mumbled as he tried to cut the hands that grabbed him. Without the Fire Emblem, it proved less than effective. "Oh no…"
"Not so tough without that shield. Oh well, you'll be the first casualty here tonight."
Marth realized how screwed he was when Tabuu hovered above him with his wings in tact. There was no way to dodge this.
Sorry everyone…I failed.
Normally the attack would just send someone flying and they would be out of commission (AKA go back to being a trophy) but in this Subspace, this was the final death. Marth felt his entire body pulsing and could see his veins when hit by the attack. They were the color of blood and it felt like blood was pouring out of him. Marth covered his ears feeling a loud vibration from the attack and screamed. Before he knew it though, he felt himself crumbling like a stain glass mirror. He didn't open his eyes to see the damage to his body and it was for the best as the last wave caused his body to fall apart.
Seeing the Prince of Altea shatter in front of their eyes horrified the Smashers.
"Oh, you didn't think you would just be sent into the endless Subspace and hope for someone to save you? No, in my realm, you're dead once I'm through with you."
When the Smashers said they would bide time for Lady Palutena, they expected a repeat of Subspace Emissary despite the warnings given to them. Marth's death signified that no they were going to die in order to allow Palutena deal the finishing blow and save the universe. Sonic's eyes quivered at the sight and didn't realize he backed up. Sonic always put himself on the line but that was because he was confident that he would win and his friends were by his side. The few times he screwed up, he told himself to never think about the issue at hand…and yet he just lost someone because he thought they were invincible.
"Sonic, get a hold of yourself!" Pit called out seeing how pale Sonic have gotten.
"Ahh!"
"What's this? The hedgehog is chickening out? What a great display of emotions. Perhaps you would like to show more as you join your prince friend."
Fox extended his hand out to prevent the angel from charging in with that sort of insult. Seeing the fear in Sonic's eyes, the leader of Star Fox feared the blue hedgehog would regress back to the vulnerable state that Tabuu put him in the first place. He may not have seen Sonic jump back to what made the speedster the likable hero in the first place but Tabuu wasn't going to take that away.
"…I'm your opponent next." Fox declared as he stepped forward. "I'll avenge Marth."
"N-No!" Sonic cried out weakly. "You'll…"
"Sonic, I'll be fine. Just be on the look out for the Chaos Emeralds."
The hedgehog stayed silent as Fox used his illusion technique to get onto the battlefield that Tabuu had set up. He may have lost half of his health, but he was not worried at all.
Fox had to decide on his strategy. He wasn't strong enough to deal damage to the final boss. Marth had to use his cherished item from his world. Without it, he was at the mercy of Tabuu's hands, so Fox's strategy was to simply remove the Chaos Emeralds. By observing the battle from above, he noted seven jewels embedded in Tabuu's hands that Marth missed when slashing at him.
Fox went in for a few kicks and a swipe of the tale reflecting the projectiles that came at him. Immediately Fox saw a spark coming from said reflector. Guess he couldn't abuse that if he didn't want to avoid an electric shock.
"So Fox, I must ask you, how was it being a kit? What were the advantages? Were you able to look up lovely skirts and go through rat holes scrounging for cheese?"
The leader of Star Fox didn't take the bait to those taunts. Taking his blaster, he shot at Tabuu's head with no effect. Putting his blaster back, he used fox illusion to get up in Tabuu's face in an attempt to kick at his arms to see how difficult it would be to knock the Chaos Emeralds off. With the simple kick though, it would not be enough, but if he built up enough power, he might be able to kick the Chaos Emeralds out. This entire time, Fox's powers were cut in half due to his small size. When he was brought back to life after failing that trial, Fox realized he had enough energy stored for one attack.
"What's the matter, cat got your tongue?"
"You talk way too much for a final boss who hasn't done enough damage as it is." Fox snarked as he started to charge up power. To anyone else, it looked like he was taunting, but he was certain that with enough fire power, he would be able to do a fire kick on that hand.
"So you can speak."
Tabuu wasted no time in taking his hands and starting to smack Fox down.
"FOX!" Sonic called out. "HE'S GOING TO KILL YOU! RUN!"
Fox kept his stance and focused his strength into this one attack.
"How do you feel?" Tabuu taunted as he kept smacking him down. "Do you still feel helpless after all of this time? Perhaps you should go join your loved ones in hell!"
Really he talks too much. Fox thought as he prepared himself for a powerful kick. However, he was feeling the pain from Tabuu's attacks. This was why he couldn't afford to get hit but he was leading the way for Sonic to finish him off hopefully. If Sonic got the Chaos Emeralds, then this will be a walk in the park. Now!
Tabuu finished pounding down on Fox. With a charged flaming kick, he kicked at the hand that held onto the Chaos Emeralds. Tabuu was too busy taunting him to realize what Fox's plan was.
"NO! YOU DAMN FURRY! YOU'RE DEAD!"
Well he was dead now, but Fox didn't seem to care. He just chuckled seeing how he made this man lose his temper from one timed kicked. Nothing else would harm him, so he was a sitting duck. Maybe if he moved, he could have lasted a little longer, but he wouldn't be able to change the outcome.
The Chaos Emeralds landed in front of Sonic's feat but he wasn't looking at them. He only watched in sheer horror since it was Fox's turn to meet his demise and be sliced in half. His body wouldn't even hit the ground. It would just disappear into nothingness of Subspace.
"FOX NO!"
Tabuu was not pleased that he dropped the emeralds next to the blue hedgehog. Now he was giving Sonic an advantage over him. With no extended hands, he couldn't just reach out and grab them either. At least he still had his butterfly form.
"Sonic don't-"
The emeralds weren't glowing a bright color as it should. Sonic wasn't turning gold either…he was turning a darker shade of blue as he grabbed the emeralds. Because Tabuu was using the energy for evil purposes and Sonic's heart was filled with rage, the result was…devastating to Sonic's psyche.
"You will pay Tabuu."
Pit couldn't get his friend to stop when he floated upward toward Tabuu to be the next combatant. Sonic gave the most menacing stare. Tabuu expected him to be a raging mess but he was too calm for his liking. Sonic chuckled…something that you wouldn't expect given he just saw the one he loved be killed in front of him. Chaos Emeralds filled with love seemed like a joke especially since Sonic turned himself into a ball to break off Tabuu's wings. Sonic didn't even have to pick up speed. He was strong enough to do so from a distance. Tabuu cried in agony feeling his wings being chipped off. Sonic wasn't done there though. He rolled back and crashed into it again. And again. And again. Every time Sonic made a direct hit, the platform lowered to the point the Smashers could see what Sonic was doing.
Pit had no idea the Chaos Emeralds could have such a negative effect on Sonic. Palutena could feel herself sweating seeing Sonic torturing Tabuu. At this rate, Sonic will actually kill him.
Yuna…do something about his psyche.
"I can't reach him!" Palutena should hear her shout. This might be the first time she heard the summoner panic. "The Chaos Emeralds blocked me out! And if I stop Sonic, then Tabuu will kill him!"
…Tabuu must be alive to face judgment. Right now if this continues, Sonic will turn on us, and I know Pit would not be able to bare the burden of killing his friend if Sonic is not stopped now. Yuna, do whatever you can.
"But Lady Palutena…you're suggesting Sonic to die by Tabuu's hands."
Yuna, he will die either way. Sonic has gotten rid of Tabuu's wings and weakened him greatly, but he still has the summons. That's what Tabuu intends to do. Valafar is not strong enough to take on all of them, but if they're weak enough then maybe…
"…Understood."
I'm sorry Yuna. You must do this.
Yuna didn't respond back and instead inside of Sonic's mind, she tried to reach his heart. Marth's death shook him and Fox's death broke him too quickly. Yuna had to remember that Sonic had only just begun recovering from the trauma he had faced. No resolve could fix the damage around his heart instantly. He could joke, he could laugh and he could smile but only one thing could go wrong to break him all over again.
"Sonic, listen to me. You need to calm down. If you don't, then you will end up destroying yourself."
Her voice was meaningless as Sonic's response was an attempt to drill into Tabuu's heart. He was losing his true form in that moment. His last defense was to use the summons. Sonic couldn't get to him when Tabuu placed up a water barrier around him. It would take some time to get through because no matter how angry he was, Sonic was still scared of water…that's what Tabuu concluded when he used it but Sonic had no problem attempting to cause a ripple in the water barrier and find an opening. He was going for Tabuu's head. The blue wonder smirked seeing the sweat building up on Tabuu's head as he was going for the ultimate summon to wipe him out. If he got to him first, he won.
"Sonic, you must not kill Tabuu. That is what he wants. You will end up hurting your friends if you kill Tabuu."
Yuna was not getting through the blue hedgehog. Having to use drastic action, she dove into the hedgehog's heart to see what was controlling him. She could see how much Sonic's soul had darkened over time. What allowed him to be a pure individual was slipping away so quickly. Yuna chose Sonic as a host because he was the purest person in the room…but if this keeps up she would never be able to reside in his heart again.
"Sonic…your heart is black…"
Sorry Yuna. Can you please go away? Tabuu needs to go.
Yuna saw a wavering light in front of the darkness of the soul. Was Sonic's consciousness fading because of the power of the Chaos Emeralds?
"Sonic, you need to calm down. Time and time again, the Chaos Emeralds must never be filled with hate. If you go through with this, you'll be no different from the monsters you have absorbed the emeralds and used them for their own purposes."
Yuna was met with a huge backlash from the darkness inside the blue hedgehog. The soul was spreading even faster. She didn't want to force the darkness to leave because it could very well destroy his soul. She kept pushing.
"Sonic listen. You cannot keep this up. You must-"
I already know that Yuna! But what can I do? I'm so angry with that bastard! Since the beginning he has done nothing but make my life hell! He wouldn't let me be myself so all of those things that happened to me…just so he could get to you and Valefor! I hate being treated like a dirty rat…and he killed Fox…there's no hope for him…I can't explain myself to Falco or anyone when this is over…I…
"You are giving up Sonic." Yuna said simply. The soul flickered as a response as it managed to push some of the darkness away. "You are filled with so much rage you haven't considered that perhaps Palutena could bring them back to life when this is all over."
Wha…I…
"Sonic…I know this is asking too much, but you must let go of your hate and summon Valafar."
But I might die. He's already summoning those Aeons! I just need to break through!
"Sonic, you will end up attacking Pit and Ike when you are finished killing him. Do you want your hatred to take over and harm your friends?"
No but…
"I know this is cruel Sonic, but you must summon the Aeon. You have already destroyed the most dangerous aspect of Tabuu with these dark powers, but you cannot let it consume you."
I…I…
The soul's flare started to shine through the darkness. Yuna frowned though seeing this because she knew she was sending him to his death. Sonic only considered the chance of death…he was putting his life in Yuna's hand in favor of calming down, but Yuna wasn't strong enough to take down multiple Aeons with just one. When she had this trial before, it was never difficult, but she doesn't even have her customized Aeons at her side anymore.
"Sonic…I am going to do something you might never forgive…please forgive me."
I trust you Yuna. I really do.
Yuna forced herself out of Sonic's soul feeling that the darkness around his heart was deteriorating. Sonic went from being Dark Sonic to Super Sonic within the span of a couple of seconds the minute he was able to calm down. The voice of Pit cheering for him rang through his ears as he smiled calmly. Yuna let herself take over Sonic. When she did, hibiscus flowers seem to sprout on his back. This changed Sonic's usual gold color to white, as his red eyes became blue and green. Tabuu looked up at the hedgehog and began to laugh hysterically seeing that the summoner took over.
"You fool, you almost had me there. Now you are going to die. COME MY SUMMONS!"
Ike realized how bad the situation was for Sonic. He grabbed Pit and ran back into Palutena's barrier where they were safe. The three watched as Tabuu did something no one would dare do to the Aeons. He combined them all into one pitiful monster that was wailing in agony due to conflicting elements and only one body part representing them. Yuna's eyes widened at Tabuu's trick quickly summoned Valefor. The flying beast flew beside her master and glanced up at the combined Aeons.
Yuna got on top of her Aeon and began to use a powerful spell. Palutena clenched her fists realizing what Yuna intended to do to prevent Sonic from having a horrible death.
"Yuna…"
"What's going on?" Pit wondered. "Lady Palutena, why does it look like Sonic is on fire?"
Palutena remained quiet as they witnessed Valefor catch fire too. Once Pit realized why they were both a flaming color, his eyes widened in horror.
"W-Wait…don't tell me…"
"A kamikaze…" Palutena mumbled. "Sonic won't die horribly this way."
"No…she can't! This is Yuna! Why can't she deal with Tabuu the normal way?"
"Pit…she has no power here to stop a powerful beast like this. Even if it doesn't kill it, they won't be able to stay combined…so this…is it…"
"No…"
Pit tried to run out of the barrier but Ike held onto him.
"Let me go Ike! Yuna is going to kill Sonic and for what?! I don't want to lose another friend! I cheered for him to win! Not to die in vain!"
"Pit, calm down!"
"I won't calm down Ike! Let me go save him! Sonic! SONIC!"
Yuna closed her eyes as she pet her summon.
"Sonic…I truly am sorry…please forgive this foolish summoner. Valefor, charge it."
Tabuu intended to obliterate both Valefor and Sonic in one blast. That wasn't possible. When the Aeons combined their powers to unleash their most powerful attack, they did not scratch the flying beast that charged toward them in a binding light. Valefor almost looked like a phoenix at this point when it collided with the Aeon causing a massive explosion. The only thing left would be the Chaos Emeralds showing that no matter how much abuse the emeralds get, they could never be destroyed, but the impact knocked them away from the explosion and down on the ground unusable by Palutena's feet. Tabuu was lucky to not be caught in the blast but he cursed at the miscalculation that Yuna would sacrifice what was left of her soul and Sonic's body to prevent him from doing any real damage to the remaining Smashers.
"SONIC!" The angel cried seeing the hedgehog crumble into nothingness. Even though Sonic had Yuna by his side, it wasn't enough to prevent him from getting killed because Yuna thought it would be best to kill them both. What kind of summoner would do that?
The angel didn't realize his legs fell to the ground. He could handle Marth and Fox dying but Sonic was his best friend who helped him thick and thin. After all they have done together, that was the last thing he saw…
"DAMMIT! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DIE TOO! YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO DIE!"
Palutena flinched seeing her Captain on his knees. Maybe asking for Sonic's assistance via Yuna wasn't good for Pit's morale. Ike attempted to comfort his ally, but he knew what he had to do. After seeing the Hero King, leader of Star Fox and now the Blue Wonder give up their lives, it was his turn as the leader of the Greil Mercenaries (and soon to be Radiant Hero). His sword began to glow a blue color before it turned into flames. Why was it blue now instead of red? Who knows, all he knew was he was going to finish the job.
"My fallen friends will be avenged." Ike warned Tabuu as he enjoyed his victory over the blue hedgehog despite losing the ability to use his wings or summon the beings effectively anymore. "Soren too…will be avenged!"
"You can try me, but I doubt you'll get far. Even without those beasts, I'll kill you."
Ike wasted no time charging Tabuu with Ragnell. The bluenette showed no mercy slamming his sword into Tabuu who was feeling the pain now. Despite all of those battles Ike participated in, he still had enough energy to tussle.
"You were always the problem…" Tabuu began as he grabbed Ragnell when Ike swung again. "I never expected you to follow me all the way to Subspace nor did I expect you to survive Subspace alone…"
"Sorry, I don't give up that easily."
"Obviously. No wonder the Mad King Ashnard stood no chance against you."
"Anyone who attacks my home will get no sympathy. You who have attacked my home, harmed my friends and killed Soren…your death will be swift. I won't let Pit get to you because I'll do it instead."
Ike's flame was burning brighter as he raised Ragnell up in the air again and slammed it down on Tabuu. His human body couldn't take these flames and jumped back. He was weakened greatly and many of his attacks were destroyed in the aftermath of Sonic's kamikaze. Ike knew this hence why he didn't let up with the combos. Tabuu's attempt to block was met with Ike breaking his guard constantly. He grabbed Tabuu and threw him up into the air followed up by Aether. He wasn't going to let him slide. Palutena's was getting shivers seeing Ike fight. With how he battled, he could slay a God like her with no problem…he was indeed a dangerous human.
Ike tackled Tabuu into the ground and attempted to bring down Ragnell on him. Tabuu teleported out of the way and ended up behind the brunette. Attempting to cut him down, Ike countered immediately sending him flying.
"Guhh!"
"I'm not through with you."
The final boss wasn't doing a good job being the final boss. Ike would kill him brutally if this kept up and unlike Sonic who was at risk of contaminating his soul and risk Yuna leaving his body Ike had none of that. He was a human who showed no mercy to his opponent. He would have to play dirty to beat Ike. And he had just the thing.
"Heh…heh heh…Ike…what if I told you killing me will prevent your most precious friend from returning."
When Ike was preparing for a huge eruption, he stopped hearing this. Tabuu decided to show him as he inserted his hand into a black hole near him that he created on his own and grabbed something…or someone from the black hole. Ike's eyes widened in horror seeing who it was.
"Soren?!"
"But that's impossible…" Palutena mumbled. "How is he alive in one piece?"
"Palutena, you think you Gods and Goddesses are the only one who can revive the dead? So can I. See?"
Tabuu smirked as he lifted Soren into the air in an attempt to strangle him. The tactician who had been unconscious for how long suddenly moved in an attempt to break free from the grasp.
"Soren!"
"Let's make a deal Ike. You drop your sword and I give you back your friend. You have my word."
"You dastard…"
"If you don't hurry, he might lose his head."
Tabuu wasn't bluffing when he said he would allow the tactician to be murdered in cold blood again. Ike's resolve faltered almost immediately. Perhaps this was a trick used to get him killed like the rest of the Smashers but…
"Ike…" Soren cried out weakly.
"Soren!"
"Ike!" Pit cried out feeling his heart sink at what was happening in front of him. He knew what Ike would do. Palutena feared the outcome.
"You are a coward Tabuu…" Ike insulted as he threw Ragnell on the ground. "Soren…"
Tabuu just laughed as he threw Soren toward Ike. The bluenette opened his arms for the wind sage. The bluenette didn't imagine Soren's body…to be real. The warmth…the smell…Soren really was alive…he brought him back…in preparations to kill him.
"Soren…you're alive…I can't believe it! I…"
"Ike…it's a trap…" Soren mumbled weakly trying to catch his breath. "He's going to kill-"
Soren didn't finish his sentence as a powerful spear of fire impaled both him and Ike. Ike's eyes widened realizing that Tabuu sent his weapon through both of them and how the trick was that Soren coming back to him distracted him. How could he be so reckless?
He started coughing up blood feeling the fire rising up toward his head before starting to choke. Looking down at Soren, his eye's widened seeing that the wind sage died instantly. He was the one who took the full force of the spear…and now they were both dead.
"No…how could I have…dammit…"
If he could just reach Ragnell, he could finish Tabuu off for having the nerve to kill Soren a second time. Turning his head slowly toward the angel, he could see tears falling from Pit's eyes.
…I failed Soren…and now Pit will have to…dammit…I guess I didn't learn anything after all.
Tsusuki smiled as he pulled the spear out of both Ike and Soren. Both would slowly be swallowed alive by the Subspace. Ike weakly reached out for Soren after the two fell but felt his strength leave him. He was…weak. Closing his eyes, the two faded into darkness.
Tabuu broke down in a hysterical of laughter seeing the leader of the Greil Mercenaries go down. The shield actually worked and he got Ike killed along with the half-breed killed again. What more could he ask for?
The angel calmed himself down during the entire battle. He just…had to accept that his friends were going to die, so seeing Tabuu impale Ike with the one he really loved only fueled his rage. He was ready to end this so Palutena wouldn't get her hands dirty with this scum. He wanted to take his rings off, but he feared that this was what Tabuu wanted and kept it on.
But Palutena could see the look in her angel's eyes. He wasn't focused as he should be. The death of his best friend and the man he loved was getting to him. Perhaps he should let her do the rest of the work…
That idiot is going to get himself killed Palutena. Please tell me my body is ready here!
The Goddess of Light failed to respond as Pit rushed Tabuu without any prior warning. Tabuu was almost dead but Pit was still fighting recklessly, and Tabuu still had an ace up his sleeve: the summons he stole from the royal bodyguards. Now that he was in critical condition, this was the chance to wipe out all opposition.
"Tabuu, you're dead!"
The angel attempted to slash at him but Tabuu simply blocked with his arm. How he admired the angry look in the angel's eyes. He continued to laugh as he stopped blocking and let Pit slash him in the chest.
"Oh Pit, you're so pitiful. You can slash at me all you want, but you're not going to do any damage. You thought I was going to die when you stepped up to the plate? Think again."
The angel was blown back by a powerful gust. Tabuu's body began to glow ten different colors representing the elements of the Aeons he stole (or the Aeons that were residing in the un-awakened bodies of Rita and Ginger).
"Palutena will only watch as I destroy you with the summons you helped your angel friends receive." He mocked as he shot flames from his hand. Pit was quick to roll out of the way and found himself running around the battlefield avoiding a flame that trailed after him. "Ha ha ha!"
Dammit! Pit cursed as he tried to fire a bow at him. This was only blocked by dark magic when it hit Tabuu. The fire stopped following Pit only to be replaced by lightning suddenly striking the angel. It hit in between the angel's legs causing him to fall over in a rather compromising position that Tabuu enjoyed every minute of. Feeling his cheeks turn a dark red, he got back up only to almost get hit by the lightning again.
"You bastard…"
Clapping his hands together, Tabuu generated shockwaves before implementing the shockwaves into the ground. The angel ended up tripping again. The angel's legs being ensnarled by a black vine followed this up.
"Shit!"
"Pit!" Palutena called out seeing Tabuu make his way toward the angel. The white angel failed to shoot the bow and it ended up going right past Tabuu's face.
"How angry are you?" He asked the angel as he generated two colored whips (one red and one cyan) and started to smack the angel with said elements of the whip. "Get furious with me! I had controlled your entire life you pathetic angel! I created your weak shadow, I made your life miserable in the mansion and I killed the people you swore to protect. All that time it took for you and Fox to form a truce? Gone! All that time you spent protecting that blue rat? Wasted! All that time it took for you to even get somewhere with that lame mortal? IT WAS ALL FOR NOTHING! And here you are unable to fight back while your Goddess watches you shivering on the ground wanting mercy!"
Normally Pit would have endured it looking for a way to get back but…he couldn't help but have a flashback the minute the fire whip smacked him in the face. He recalled his mother in the past often whipping him. It may not have been fire or ice, but the sound of the whip often caused him to bellow for his father's assistance. If not the whip, then she would beat him leaving bruises that would take days to heal. Adding the threat of burning his wings or leaving him to freeze outside in Sandalphon would make any angel want to give up hope.
Palutena's voice wasn't reaching him as he ended up crying every time he was hit. Why couldn't he move at a time like this?
Lady Palutena! Pit cried to himself as he was smacked again. Tabuu stopped to kick the angel to the ground afterward. This was not how his battle was suppose to turn out.
"PIT!"
Palutena, let me at him! I got to save him!
"I know! Just wait!"
"I wonder what I should do to you? Your Goddess won't help you." He chuckled taking the fire magic to channel a flame sword that was used to slice at the angel's tunic. "Should I rip every limb off of you slowly but surely, or should I just damage you beyond prepare? Your other counterpart wasn't even look touching but you're the real deal."
Pit couldn't move. He was still trying to get over his trauma of the past. To Tabuu, it looked like he was hyperventilating over the idea of being assaulted.
"I guess the latter wouldn't hurt."
He resorted to slashing more of Pit's tunic exposing his nipples and boxers. The angel closed his eyes trying to remain relaxed but was failing miserably.
Tabuu wouldn't get to any juicy part in this battle though when he received a swift kick to the face and being sent flying far away from the captain. At first Tabuu thought Palutena finally decided to forgo her plan to protect her angel, but to his surprise, the dark angel was back in his own body.
"How?"
"Idiot! You really underestimate Palutena do you? I don't need you to give me a body! She can give me back my original form if you give her time!"
Despite the explanation, Palutena exhausted herself forcing Li's soul into his original form. She bided her time for nothing unless Pit and Li made a difference here. Li was quick to slice the vine before attempting to help the white angel up. Seeing Pit wasn't going to get up on his own, Li resorted to punching the angel in the face. Given the trauma that didn't seem like a good idea but…
"Come on you idiot! You don't have time to dwindle about the past when that asshole is in front of us! This is our chance for revenge and you remember what your horrible mother did?!"
The angel could feel the pain causing him to tilt his head toward Li. He still didn't have the shine back in his eyes so he had to keep going.
"Dammit Pit! You've been telling me this entire time that I'm not alone and I need to open up and here you are closing yourself up at a time of importance! Don't let the death of your friends go to waste! You're the god damn captain of the royal bodyguards so start acting like one!"
"Li…"
"Palutena won't be happy if you died like this. You have no dignity now with how Tabuu shredded your clothes. Get on your feet and deal more damage to him than what he did to you. Get him where it hurts!"
The angel remained silent as he allowed his dark counterpart help him up to his feet. He looked pitiful with his sliced tunic and bruises that would take a while to heal. Hitting the same location with fire and then ice would cause the skin to be an awful dark color.
"So let's tag team like when we were kids against the bastard." Li continued with a smirk. "This body may not last, so we need to hurry."
"…Okay…sorry Li."
Tabuu was not pleased that his servant had officially turned on him in favor of the Goddess and his twin. Preparing their weapons, the two charged in opposite directions. Pit forced himself not to feel any pain for the plan they were making up on the spot. Tabuu didn't think Pit was important though given said injuries and focused on Li. He shined a light as bright as the sun on the dark angel causing Li to run farther then intended. He could feel Tabuu charging him though and stepped back to shoot feathers in the direction of the villain. Tabuu fried the feathers to a crisp only to find an arrow to the knee. Turning around earned him a punch to the face by the dark angel.
"That's for all the times you hits me, dick!" The dark angel cursed. Tabuu didn't even have time to react when Li unleashed a barrage of punches powered up by his dark magic. "Pit start now!"
The angel nodded his head as he closed his eyes and relaxed his mind. Alexander was different from the other summons. It was a powerful being that could not be summoned often without repercussion. The first time Pit unleashed him, he was unconscious for weeks. There was nothing holding him back except Tabuu recovering. He grabbed Li and slammed him into the ground in retaliation.
"You insolent worm! How dare you lay a hand on your master!"
"I am not your master anymore!" Li shouted as he used the shadow Tabuu cast to fire dark magic from there. "I am my own angel! I am Dark Pit and I will not allow you to use me to your hearts content! I will never forgive you for harming Pit, Palutena, the royal bodyguards and Isaak! You will pay!"
Tabuu blocked with Li's only magic that he got from Bahamut. Li growled seeing his own beast used against him. Tabuu growled as he created a mallet out of water to attack the dark angel. Li was sent flying near the light angel who was near finished with the summoning.
"Pit?"
"Almost done…"
Tabuu did not want to be killed by one summon. In retaliation, he forced the summons that he had stolen as his shield as Pit completed summoning Alexander. They may not have been able to combine like before, but separately they should have been the ultimate shield.
"HOLY JUDGEMENT!" Pit cried as a huge robotic figure slowly emerged from the darkness below them. The light shined brighter than subspace being replaced by a shiny midnight black from the robotic summon. Li could not believe how massive Alexander was and was only getting bigger to the point where Tabuu and Palutena were little specs. On Pit's orders, Alexander prepared to fire rockets of light and fired toward Tabuu. "Good bye Aeons…you were important to all of us…"
The Aeons didn't want to protect their new master who was filled with hate and rage. Their resistance was weak and the being of Subspace realized this.
"What are you monsters doing?! Protect your master!"
They did but not to the point he wanted. The summon beings exploded into the light when they were pierced. Every time an Aeon was pierced, the light would hit Tabuu next showing he wasn't invisible. He coughed up blood with each blow. You would think he would explode into the light like the Aeons were but he only screamed in pain at the power the angel demonstrated. Was this the end?
Pit frowned seeing the Aeons die without a fight. Petting his summon, he thanked Alexander and dismissed it. This could very well be the last time he summoned it. The twins had a safe landing as Li looked down at Tabuu's bruised body and chuckled.
"That's what you get for messing with us! Now we'll drag your ass back to the heavens and you'll be punished!"
"Li, you might get punished too…"
"…Aren't you going to pardon me?"
"Look, you still need to apologize to everyone…"
Li didn't like how Pit looked like it was still the end of the world and it might as well be with Sonic, Ike, Fox and Marth dead. Unless Palutena could revive them, they would be attending a funeral when they get back.
They wouldn't even be able to go back to heaven though. Tabuu still had one thing up his sleeve. Even if the summons were dead, he was going to take the Goddess with him. Palutena had no time to react when he took to the sky (despite his injuries) to prepare one last sneak attack.
"DIE PALUTENA!"
The twins looked in horror seeing a rain of blue spikes hailing down on their defenseless Goddess. She couldn't move in fear of losing her concentration. Without hesitation the two made haste to shield the Goddess with their bodies.
"LADY PALUTENA!" Pit screamed as he embraced her from the front while Li shielded her from behind. Using the last bit of his magic, he created a small shield above Palutena's head in favor of not protecting himself. Palutena shuddered seeing her beloved angels impaled by her mortal enemy.
"Pit…Li…"
"…Damn angels…" Tabuu growled as he pulled his spikes out of both of the angels. Li was the first one to fall to the ground and disappear into nothingness. Palutena extended her arms out to catch the white angel as he fell into her arms.
"Pit…you…"
"Lady Palutena…thank you…" The angel mumbled as he started coughing up blood. "You were…everything to me…take care…of everyone…"
"Pit, stay alive! You're not finished! Come on Pit!"
The angel closed his eyes feeling himself fade away into nothingness. He didn't want to see the tears threatening to fall down his Goddess' eyes. He just wanted to feel the warmth of her body before he disappeared.
"PIT!"
"Those angels are more trouble than what they are worth." Tabuu continued to complain as he felt his body slowly reverting back to his human form despite being in Subspace. All these Smashers really knocked him down back to his form that wouldn't be able to stand up against the Goddess of Light. With her current state though, perhaps he didn't need to be at his best if she's going to sob over the Captain's death. "Their death is worthless. Once I kill you, then the heavens is mine. So how about you just stand there and let me give you a painless death."
The Goddess was still shaking see her angel disappear before her eyes. She let this happen to her angel children…why did she agree with the plan to sacrifice everyone? So she can keep Tabuu survive to give him a proper punishment this time around? Why couldn't she just be a hypocrite and kill Tabuu instead of bringing him to justice?!
Tabuu was already standing before her with a blade to her neck. She didn't react to the blade causing the Subspace being's expression to darken.
"As much as I would love to kill you at your best, you need to disappear."
"Get that filthy blade away from me."
Tabuu didn't pull away fast enough as Palutena's scepter broke it off by a single touch. Her green eyes flared staring at her enemy who had the audacity to kill her angels.
"You get over death pretty fast…" Tabuu mocked as he took a few steps back. He could feel the power coming from the Goddess that was increasing with each second.
"I have lived longer than you. This is not the first time I have lost people close to me." She shut her eyes thinking she could shut out the memory of the other people in her life that have died because of her. "I am not the God of the Underworld so I can't bring them back, but even that man cannot bring people who do not want to return back from the dead. If I stop you now, there is still hope to save them."
"You can keep telling yourself that Palutena. You won't save any of them when I'm through with you."
Even though Tabuu said that, he was exhausted from fighting the other Smashers. They did all in their power to make him weaker to the Goddess of Light from destroying his wings and killing those summon beings he worked so hard to steal from the other angels.
"Let me remind you Tabuu, I am the heroine from 2000 years ago. I defeated the Great Evil and sealed him away. You are nothing compared to the battles beforehand. I was merciful and banished you to Subspace to repent but what you have done…I cannot forgive."
"Bitch, without me, your precious dark angel wouldn't have had existed!"
"…No…I'm certain he would have in due time…"
"What?"
"For someone who originated from that world, you do not understand a thing. I understand why you were banished by them."
"You-"
"Tabuu, you have no more tricks up your sleeves. We will fight one on one and I will defeat you myself!"
Palutena didn't even give him the time to retort anything witty. The Goddess of Light charged toward him with her scepter in hand twirling it in front of her with her magic. Tabuu jumped back trying to avoid it but she hit him with a powerful light from above. He came down on her with a head butt that sent her back. He turned his hands into blades again charging her. Palutena held her scepter in front of her and counter immediately as he slashed right past her. A strand of hair fell in front of the Goddess' face.
"Auto Reticle!" Palutena called out as she pointed toward Tabuu and fired a lock on magic beam at him. It was rather effective hitting him from the back and given how Tabuu couldn't use any of his moves he used against the Smashers, he was making this too easy for her and she knew it. "Your movement is slow."
"Dammit!" Tabuu cursed as he attempted to turn around and counter her. Palutena blocked with a barrier that forced him back. "You think just because you have a new set of moves that you'll defeat me!'
"You are weak now. Anything that could have defeated me is gone. You don't have much strength left, you lost those wings that could kill anybody if they made one false move and you lost those summon beings…my angels worked so hard to make pacts with them to benefit their growth…and you snatched them away without a second thought!"
"What? Angry that they'll be worthless to you again? How amusing."
Palutena sensed that there was no point exchanging insults anymore when she could focus on the more important matters. She just needed to focus her powers into one more attack if he was this feeble. As she started to focus her magic though, Tabuu wasted no time in sucker punching her. She didn't move from her spot as she continued to chant the spell.
"Heroine from 2000 years ago? Yeah right! You and the other Gods spent so much time bickering at each other and dealing that that huge demon that the universe was almost lost because of you guys! You all deserved to be cursed! You all deserve to be dethroned and have someone more fitting who actually cares for the universe's wellbeing. All you divine beings do is sit there and let things run its course and only interfere when it benefits you. That's why everything goes to hell and why you all need to die!"
How many hits did he get in during his rant? Palutena counted thirteen punches to her for entire battle. He then proceeded to stab her a few times but due to his crazed state, he missed vital organs each time and she could still concentrate. Only when she was finished with her spell did she catch his arm that proceeded to cuff her in the face.
"We deserved to be cursed? I would like a better clarification of that." If she were like her relatives, then she would have broken off Tabuu's hand right there with her strength, but she continued to hold onto it so he could continue hearing her speech. "Typhon was no joke and The Great Evil unleashed him to distract us Gods. You think I would have helped my angel people if not for that ravaging monster? Do you think I would have sat back and watch the corruption spread and my fellow angels executed when things went horribly? Do you think it's my fault I didn't stand up for you that one time and you ended up in Subspace? That's not my issue!"
"You-"
"We fought long and hard and gave up so much during that war! No one will talk about what we have sacrificed and only what we have done wrong. I do not need people like you telling me what I could have done better! If I could go back in time to prevent that, I would have already prevented catastrophe!"
"But you won't go back in time even if you did!" Tabuu shouted. "You love that angel too much to erase everything and ever have a faithful encounter with him. I wouldn't be surprised you would let this happen just for that angel. It doesn't even matter now, he's dea-argghhhhhhhhh!"
She lost her patience and bent his hand before releasing it. Whatever bones were there were shattered beyond prepare. He was better off cutting off his hand that he grasped in agony.
"I think we can agree this conversation is over. I don't expect you to understand my life choices during those dark times. I will punish you for what you have done now to the realms. As the Goddess of Light, it ends now."
"You!"
Tabuu's eyes widened seeing Palutena's weapon change from a scepter to a blade of light. The glow lit up the space surrounding the two as Palutena charged him head on. This was the end.
Me: TBC with 12580 words…Li is dead for now so apparently Li isn't here to nag me about how I killed him and Pit and the Smashers. Notes!
1. Pit's attitude through this story was rather solemn but was capable of having fun. This chapter reflects his Uprising attitude but I also like you to recall that Pit has never interacted with Palutena throughout the story. Only through flashbacks where he tends to think lowly of himself as well as his thoughts on her but he doesn't have any when he sees his wonderful Goddess and acts like a happy dog seeing their master again.
2. Palutena's comment about not eating human flesh comes from the Tantalus myth where Tantalus thought it would be a great idea to murder his son and serve his son's flesh to the Gods. Only Demeter in the myth ended up taking a bite because this was around the same time Hades kidnapped Persephone. The Gods were furious and Tantalus was banished to Tartarus for his horrible crime.
3. I gave Marth the Fire Emblem and used it like in Awakening simply because it didn't do that much in Marth's original game. He used it as a shield against dragons but Tabuu is no dragon.
4. Fox has nothing compared to the other Smashers so a beefed up smash attack was all he could really do to Tabuu. He had to use his brain instead of brute force and as a result did the least amount of damage.
5. Dark Sonic has always been a concept in the Sonic universe most noticeably in Sonic X when Sonic used the power of the fake emeralds by accident seeing Chris almost killed and Cosmo crying for Chris' near dead body. It was Dr. Eggman that calmed Sonic down. Note these were fake emeralds. The real emeralds would have Sonic nearly kill Tabuu and if Yuna didn't interfere, he would have successfully done so. Yuna's decision to kamikaze came from the fact that Dark Sonic is too powerful and in Subspace Emissary powered by the nothingness and negative emotions would have killed Pit and Ike. Now if there was a sequel, Sonic probably won't forgive her for breaking his trust and killing them both for an attack that overall would prove useless if Tabuu could still whip Pit's ass with the elements.
6. Ike is already showing signs of his power from Radiant Dawn here hence his blue flame. At first I thought Tabuu would use a dead Soren to taunt Ike and attempt to kill it despite Soren being dead, but I decided that it would be best if Soren really was alive to warn Ike he was being tricked.
7. It sucks for Pit to have an attack of his past in the middle of the final battle, but it shows how damaging his mother was to him.
8. Alexander is Pit's mechanical summon. Pit is lucky that he didn't technically lose his summon like the others but to be fair, its too powerful for him. This is the closest thing to the Cherubot ironically. This is also the only time the two fight together like in Kid Icarus Uprising. Yes the twins were always going to fight Tabuu but it was never my intention for them to get killed off…but I wanted Palutena to feel despair at the end as she fought.
9. Palutena's attacks are based on the Smash Brothers 4 move set. While I always intended for her to finish off Tabuu, the battle was written so it would be like she was fighting him in Subspace instead of coming up with overpowered moves that could easily defeat him.
10. I think I have Palutena bring up this phase when you look back at my Disgaea Fanfiction and realize something important about timelines. Palutena is the hero described in said Disgaea stories who sealed The Great Evil but The Great Evil would go and curse all the Gods/Goddesses minus a selected few (shown in Pyrrhon's POV in Approval Rating) that would lead to the many tragedies shown in Greek Mythology. Again this would have never been brought up if I finished the story originally, but Kid Icarus and Disgaea take place in the same universe in all my stories. Smash Brothers by extension always focused on Pit's universe the most so I decided to add this backstory to explain why Palutena is willing to sacrifice people she cares about.
