Hiii. This is just kind of a filler. I'm pleased to inform you that I have a Frank and Leo POV lined up, but that's not until the end chapters.
Okay, just so I know, who's POV is more liked? Annabeth, Nico or Percy? Please let me know :3
ANNABETH:
"Are you kidding me?", Annabeth exclaimed angrily, "That is total Minotaur shit"
She paced Piper's cabin furiously as Hazel and Piper regarded her, afraid to say anything. They were sitting cross legged on the wooden floor, trying not to agitate Annabeth anymore than she already was.
"Are all of them idiots? Don't they understand that it was absolutely necessary?", Annabeth said to no one in particular.
Hazel looked at her with her sparkling gold eyes and said in a low voice, "There's always a price."
Yeah, that poor girl knew about that too well.
"Yes, but in times like these, how can they be so thickheaded?", Annabeth snapped.
"It might not be so bad. Reyna is the praetor, not Octavian", Piper suggested soothingly.
Her words did calm Annabeth a bit, or probably the charmspeak did, but she was still uneasy.
"He's a good speaker. Moreover, he pretends to be able to tell the future with his stuff toy murderings", Hazel replied bitterly.
"Rachel will kick his ass if he tries", Piper said with a smile.
Annabeth felt guilty at hearing Rachel's name. She hadn't talked to her for a long while. The last time they had communicated (if you could call it that) was when she sent her message to Reyna through Rachel from Tartarus. She should've Iris-messaged Rachel or something.
"Aren't Romans the ones for 'Do or die'?", Annabeth asked uncertainly. "Lupa trains you and sends you to camp, but it's on you, if you make it or not, right?"
Piper didn't understand what Annabeth was suggesting but Hazel did.
"You're saying that Reyna might be isolated", Hazel said softly, "You think they'll test her abilities to make it on her own"
"But didn't they already?", Piper suggested, "She made it to the Mediterranean alone"
Annabeth chewed on her lower lip, and then sighed. "I don't understand the Romans"
Just a while ago, the three of them had Iris-messaged Reyna to check the status of Camp Halfblood and Jupiter. She had been happy to tell them that the Romans and the Greeks were getting along well enough, though there still was competitiveness while training together. Many of the Greek cabins took their roman brothers and sisters in but some were still wary and chose to stay in the big house. The ones who didn't have a Greek side to their parent or the ones who were grandchildren and great grandchildren of demigods, camped in the amphitheatre.
There were others too, who were even more wary and decided to set camp in the woods, rather than near the Greeks.
Apparently Octavian had brought almost the whole legion upon them.
Now Annabeth could clearly see why Octavian couldn't be made a praetor under any circumstances.
He was an idiot.
An evil idiot, to be precise. Evil and power hungry.
Even though the Greeks and Romans were at peace, (Except for a little discomfort but that was okay. These times weren't for comfort.) Reyna was being charged with half a dozen offenses because she had travelled to the Ancient Lands and broken their ancient laws.
Which was the stupidest thing Annabeth had ever heard. After everything Reyna had done.
That's why she didn't like most Romans.
Also because her mother was Athena and she hated Romans.
Thinking about her mother seemed to bring down the temperature of the cabin.
Before she could stop her mind, Annabeth found herself remembering the dream she had.
She had found herself in a circular, old Victorian library. It had been a three storied structure with a glass dome on top. Warm sunlight filtered through it and, caressing her face.
She knew this was a dream and soon she would reach wherever she was meant to, but till then she decided to go through as many books as she could.
It was hard not to. There were so many books and she could feel them calling out to her, to open their pages and absorb the knowledge they were offering.
But she didn't know if they were in Greek or not. She could tell that some were in Greek and Latin. Some were in other languages like Italian, Arabic, Hindi and Chinese, even.
She walked to one of the bookshelves on the ground floor and slid the glass case. The books inside seemed of no particular time. There were books which were extremely old, with fragile pages and withered covers and some were bright and glossy and almost shimmering.
The problem was, they were in Latin.
Most Greek demigods could probably read Latin to some extent but since her mother was Athena, the most Greek goddess of all time, Annabeth was pardoned this advantage.
Anyway, she picked up one of the oldest books and seated herself on the plush couch that was placed in the centre of the ground floor with a pretty little wooden coffee table.
She opened the book and instantly knew it was a book about war. The pictures were gruesome but very well painted and detailed.
Also, funnily enough, she could read it.
"I wouldn't normally recommend this book but it probably has it's uses, as of right now", said a voice and Annabeth looked up, instinctively reaching for her dagger at her waist, which of course, wasn't there.
Athena stood in front of her in dark blue jeans and a checked button down shirt. Her grey eyes sparkled furiously.
"Mother", Annabeth greeted icily, "Funny seeing you"
Athena looked irritated and for a moment Annabeth thought she would turn her own daughter into an owl.
Instead she just sighed and plopped down beside Annabeth.
"Seriously, though, Annabeth", she said, "I knew you could do it"
"Did you, now?", Annabeth asked coldly.
"Yes", Athena replied sternly, "But I was in no state to help you. You had to do it on your own. You can't possibly blame me for this"
And Athena was right, just like always. Annabeth couldn't. She didn't. She just wanted her mother to be proud of her. To acknowledge what Annabeth had done, maybe provide some comfort after everything she had gone through.
But Athena was an Olympian goddess, not a mortal mother. It wasn't in her job description.
"I am proud of you", Athena said when Annabeth didn't say anything for a long time. "There's a war coming and it will only be won through hardships and sacrifices"
Annabeth pursed her lips and didn't reply to her mother.
"As my daughter", Athena continued, "You will be expected to take all the harsh and risky decisions for the greater good"
Greater good. "You mean, go against Percy", Annabeth stated flatly.
Her mother wanted her to do things for the greater good ignoring all the personal costs.
But loyalty was Percy's core, or as other would say, his fatal flaw. He would always put his friends before any kind of good.
"I want you to whatever is right", Athena replied exasperated, "It is far bigger than your little group of friends. Or your little camp. It is about the lives of everyone in this world and their future, if they are to have one. If young demigods like yourself have been trusted with something so important, don't you think it's your duty to do it?"
"You sound like a Roman", Annabeth said half pouting.
For the second time she thought Athena would incinerate her.
And for a second time she was proved wrong.
"Duty is duty, be it Roman or Greek", Athena said stiffly. She looked ever more like a goddess. "It's a big responsibility. Take it seriously. Prove Gaia wrong that you can beat her. It won't be easy but only you are capable"
Adrenaline pumped through Annabeth like it always did when she realized she had been trusted with something huge.
She nodded curtly and saw a hint of smile playing on her mother's lips. "Do you know why I am a maiden goddess, Annabeth?"
Annabeth knew but she let her mother speak. "Because even though love has its uses, wisdom is power. Because I couldn't bear to put myself second, selfish as that maybe. I do love my children and my father", she sighed, "But I love from a distance. I chose to build on my strengths"
Annabeth smiled, finally. "I love you too, mother"
Even though you're a real pain sometimes, she thought.
Athena smiled knowingly.
"After the war, you may have this", she told Annabeth, gesturing around her, at the library.
Annabeth couldn't stop her lips from parting slightly, standing there stunned. "Really?", she managed to get out. She had always wanted an old Victorian library and this one exceeded all her expectations. She could live here forever, she knew.
"Yes and you will be able to read every language here, as a part of my gift.", Athena added.
"I think I will be able to appreciate this gift quite well", Annabeth replied with a grin.
"Knowledge is power, Annabeth", Athena reminded as the scene faded. As if Annabeth could ever forget.
"Uh, Annabeth?", Piper asked shaking Annabeth by the shoulder, jerking her back to Piper's cabin.
"Yeah, I'm right here. Didn't zone out", Annabeth replied as Piper rolled her eyes. She had been doing it too often lately.
"Can't Chiron help Reyna?", Piper asked.
"As much as Lupa will", Annabeth replied, looking at Hazel.
Hazel nodded sadly, "Lupa won't help and Chiron is Greek, he wouldn't meddle. But Reyna is strong. She'll make it."
"It's a test, just like finding the Athena Parthenos was for me, she has to do it on her own", Annabeth replied firmly. She just wished she could help her, but currently, she had bigger problems.
There was silence as the three sat with their minds racing.
"I just had an idea-", Annabeth began but was interrupted by Leo bursting in.
Dark satin tendrils seemed to be floating around him. He seemed in pain but there were no visible injuries.
"Annabeth", he said breathlessly, "A daughter of Nyx is here to see you"
