The weekend went by so quickly and right at 7:00, Professor Dumbledore showed up. He looked at the babies for a few minutes and then him and Ginny left. She was grateful for that man, even though he was quite elderly, he was a saint. Hermione had felt like she was going crazy, being by herself all the time, so it was nice that Dumbledore let Ginny stay with her for a couple days. Hermione had finally heard back from Draco, it took him a long time though.
Dear Hermione,
I'm sorry it took me so long to write back. I didn't know what to say. I love you more than anything in this world and I want you back. I don't care what you think you'd do to cause me pain. I'd rather be with you and go through that pain than live without you. I just wish you would understand how much I love you and how sorry I am that this happened. I haven't stopped thinking about it and I regret it greatly. Please let me come see you. I love you so much.
Love always,
Draco, xoxo
Hermione cried. She wanted him but she didn't think she could handle seeing him. But her children also deserved to know there father. She was torn. She decided to leave it for a while before replying.
A couple days later brought it to the end of September; the babies were put into regular bassinets and were almost ready to be discharged. Hermione couldn't believe she had almost lost hope, but they both survived, she couldn't be happier about that. Harry had found his own place and invited her over for a visit one afternoon. And since the babies were doing fine, she decided to go check it out.
"Wow, its incredible Harry!" Hermione shrieked when she got there.
"I know. I found it and fell in love with it. When Ginny's done school, she's going to move in with me. Come this way, I'll show you around", they started walking down the hall. Hermione couldn't believe how big this place was. "Right here, is your room", Harry smiled. Hermione stopped dead in her tracks.
"What?"
"This will be your room. Once the babies are discharged, I would have nothing less than you to live with me", he told her. She started crying.
"Oh Harry! Thank you so much", she said grabbing him in a huge hug.
"You're welcome. Now through this door is your own private bathroom. And through this other door is the nursery", he said showing Hermione two rooms attached to hers. She thought it was really cool because both rooms had doors into hers. Harry led her through the door into the nursery. It was completely done, two cribs, a change table, everything Hermione needed.
"Harry, you didn't have to. You shouldn't have!" She cried.
"I wanted to. Consider it my gift to you and your little family".
"Thank you so much", she said hugging him again.
"You're welcome", he hugged back.
She stood in there and examined everything Harry had done for her. One crib had all blue bedding and it had the name James on the wall above it. The other crib had pink bedding with the name Jacey on the wall above it. Hermione checked the wardrobe and it was completely stocked with girls and boys clothing.
"Everyone pitched in on all the clothing and supplies. Ron bought the change table. I bought the cribs. Ginny bought the name pieces. Molly and Arthur bought the bedding and the strollers. The strollers came with car seats. There's one with blue on it and the other has pink on it. We've been working on this for over a month and couldn't wait to show you", Harry smiled standing at the door.
"And I love all of you for it", she smiled. She still couldn't believe what everyone had done for her.
'Ginny told me that Dumbledore said you can teach at Hogwarts", Harry said.
"He did. But I haven't decided for sure yet", she told him. He nodded and they walked out of the room. Hermione looked at the time and bid Harry goodbye and went back to St. Mungos.
A week later the babies were able to leave the hospital. They had to go back for check-ups every two weeks though; just to be sure everything was fine. Harry came with the car seats for us to easily transport the babies. They had to take a train, as they didn't want to apparate with two infants. It took them close to an hour to get to Harry's new house. Once they got there, Harry helped Hermione get the babies settled in their cribs. They were fed and changed by the nurses right before they left. They had been bottle fed for a few days, to make sure they could do it before being discharged. Hermione would be happy if she never had to see the inside of St. Mungos ever again. But she knew that was impossible as the babies needed to go to check-ups and everything.
"So happy to be out of there", Hermione sighed sitting down on the couch.
"Yeah, it took a long time, but they made it", Harry said sitting beside her.
"Yeah. You know how happy I am that they did?" Harry nodded.
"We all are", he said. Hermione nodded. A few minutes later she fell asleep. Harry covered her up with a blanket then decided to go make dinner and took the baby monitor with him so if the babies cried, they wouldn't wake Hermione. He would take care of them for now.
Harry was preparing to serve dinner when one of the babies cried. It was too soon to be able to decipher which cry it was. So he went in, it was Jacey who was crying. He figured she was hungry, her diaper wasn't dirty and it had been a couple hours since coming home. He went to the fridge and grabbed a bottle and warmed it. He sat in the rocking chair in the corner of the room, Jacey in his arms, and fed her. It took her 15 minutes to finish the bottle and another 5 or so burping her. James had woken by the time he was done, but he didn't cry. Harry warmed another bottle and fed him anyway, so they could be on the same schedule, to make things easier, especially overnight.
"You were hungry, weren't you?" Harry cooed as he finished burping James and put him in his crib. He didn't know Hermione was outside the door, spying on him. As he was on his way out, he nearly jumped out of his skin. "Jeez Hermione. Don't do that", he said. Hermione laughed.
"You're good with them", she said as they went to the kitchen table to eat.
"I know", he smirked. "How long were you there?"
"Long enough", she said as she tucked into the table and started eating. "This is delicious", she told Harry.
"Thank you. I found the recipe in the book Hagrid gave me at the end of first year. It was tucked into a pocket on the back cover. There were a few family recipes there", he explained. Hermione nodded her understanding. "Did you ever reply to Malfoys last letter?" He asked.
"His name is Draco. And no, I haven't. I don't know what to say to him", Hermione sighed.
"It's been almost a year Hermione. Don't you think you could face it now? Especially since you know the babies are perfectly fine", Harry said.
"They are now. But they weren't. I told everyone, including you and Draco; I don't want to put him through more pain and telling him I was pregnant, with twins no less, will cause a world of hate and pain for him. Especially if he had to go through what I went through when they were born", Hermione told him. Harry could tell, she was about to cry. Hermione got up and went to the nursery after she ate and thanked Harry for dinner.
She stood between the cribs, and stared at her babies. James was an exact replica of Draco, except his eyes were a radiant blue instead of smoky. Hermione remembered reading that most babies are born with blue eyes and they may change as they get older. She looked at Jacey, she looked just like Hermione, except she had the same blue eyes James did. She had light brown hair and Hermione wondered if it would go as puffy as hers was when she was a kid. Harry came in and stood beside her.
"It's crazy how much she looks like you and he looks like Mal- I mean Draco", Harry smiled. Hermione nodded and hid her face as Harry hadn't noticed she had tears streaming down her face and she didn't want him to. "Hermione, look at me", he said. She refused. He had to force her to look at him. He wrapped his arms around her as she broke down. "Hermione, keeping this from Draco is causing you so much more pain than him knowing would cause him", Harry told her. He felt her nod her head.
"I have to tell him, don't I?" She asked weakly.
"I think it would be best Hermione. Look at how much you cry; even though the babies are fine. We know exactly who you're thinking about when those tears come", he tried soothing her.
"I know. It's just so hard. And I don't want to leave your house, I like it here, and I like having you around all the time", she told him.
"I never said you had to leave. Where did you get that idea from?"
"Well if I tell Draco, he's going to want us to move in with him, or he'd probably take the babies", Hermione cringed at the thought of him taking them away from her.
"I'll offer him a place here", Harry said.
"You'd do that for me?" She looked at him shocked.
"I'd do anything for you. Especially if it means getting your little family back together", Harry told her, still hugging her.
"Thank you Harry", she said, calming down a bit. "I don't know how I'd tell him though", she said.
"Write him a letter and ask him to meet you here. I'll take the day off work on whatever day you decide on and I'll be in another room of the house, just in case shit hits the fan", he told her.
"Thank you", Hermione said, hugging him tighter.
