AN: This chapter was added as a bit of narration as to where these to males are at in the story. Why each thinks the way he does and how that has effected them thus far and will continue to effect them. Hopefully you enjoy this chapter. I do not own the rights to the Harry Potter Franchise. I am just using J.K Rowling's amazing world and characters to my own amusement and hopefully your own as well.
Wanting Something More
Chapter Fourteen: Wanting Insight
How in bloody Merlin am I supposed to plan a date properly with him whining like that? Harry groaned mentally to himself. He loved his best friends, truly he did. It was just on occasions, more often than not; that Ron had to stick his foot into his mouth and anger Hermione enough for her to shut herself away in the Library. I mean really she's not mad that you looked, but to actually comment that someone had a really nice ass. That is really not the way to go mate.
"I mean she is totally over reacting. I know for a fact she checked out Blaise the other day when we saw his sister giving him a massage after yet another 'team building' exercise from his teammates." Ron huffed. Clearly not seeing the line he crossed.
"Come on mate. You all know girls think differently than us. She's always be insecure about her looks. She had the worst buck teeth and bushy hair until fourth year." Seamus threw in, also annoyed at Ron's bitching.
"Hey, don't talk about her like that. She's my girl and I love her." Ron defended the woman he loved with all his heart.
"Then you should bloody well tell her that more often. I know you get embarrassed but if you said it more often she wouldn't freak out as much when you happen to stick those clown shoe feet in your mouth." Dean threw back at him. "The poor girl loves you, lord only knows why sometimes, and you need to be careful about verbally admiring another woman's backside."
Harry snorted. "Oh not you too Harry. You have to see this as typical Hermione just getting all girly and dramatic too right? You're my best mate, you are required to be on my side!" Ron demanded as he heard his friends reaction.
"Not in matters involving you two. I promised you both I was not picking sides in any lover's quarrel you two have. Besides I agree with them. If you were more romantic then maybe she would be less of a nag too." Harry supplied with a devilish smirk. "Maybe she'd even snog you a bit more."
Ron blushed and threw his hands in the air. "I get it, fine I'll apologize to her and tell her how much she means to me and all that emotional crap."
"Yes because calling it crap is a great way to start off thinking about a romantic gesture to get back into her good graces. You're off to a wonderful start Ron." Dean taunted.
"Oh and like any of you can lecture me about dating a girl. You're both with guys and I bet that's way easier than dealing with a crazy girl all the time."
"Harry's going to be taking Brittany out on a date during the Hogsmeade trip this weekend." Seamus threw in. "So that sort of counts."
No, no, no. Don't involve me in this anymore than I already am. I take a side and they'll just use it against me the next time they get into a spat. Leave my sort of weird love life out of this. Harry begged mentally. Outwardly he kept his cool. "Not sure if that counts yet. We haven't done anything more than study and hang out with everyone. It's pretty rare we are even alone. I thought she was pretty smart. That girl needs help in Herbology, Transfiguration, and desperately in Charms. I'm surprised she even continued or that Flitwick let her with an Acceptable."
"Her brother said that's because the written portions of her exams were all Outstanding it was her actual ability to cast the required spells. She loves Ancient Runes and History of Magic." Dean added. "She's smart enough to understand its uses and why it works, but perhaps she should just drop at least Charms if she can't cast the spells at all."
Seamus smirked. "Besides if she's going to be the wife of Harry Potter, all she really needs is the ability to ride a broom and throw a good Stupefy or Expelliarmus."
Harry flushed a little. "You know we haven't gone out yet. Besides that's some pretty low standards there Seamus. I thought you said I deserved the best of the bunch and to send her boyfriend your way."
Seamus laughed at Harry's discomfort and obvious deflection. "Too true mate. Hey at least she has a decent rack."
Ron's jaw dropped. "You're gay right, what would you know about a good rack?"
Dean answered for him. "Oh girls all love us bi's and gays. You know we won't get a hard on if they let us lay in their chest and let them play with our hair. I've gotten to second base with more girls than I can count that way. I even bi-passed first entirely." He was smug as he looked at Ron.
"I give up. You three enjoy you're whatever it was. I'm going to go get some flowers or something. Girls like flowers right?" As Seamus was about to answer Ron held up his hand. "Do not answer that. I'm leaving."
With that Ron half stomped out of the room. Dean stretched out on his bed and smiled. "So you were thinking of somewhere romantic or casual?"
"Huh," Harry was confused. "For what?"
"Harry, tell us how long has it been since you and Ginny went out on a date? A real date outside the Castle?" Seamus pressed, already pretty sure it had been a while. Harry was pretty bad with romance, he just got lucky somehow. Not sticking his foot in his mouth did help his case.
"Um, a year or so, why?" Harry answered, a little embarrassed now as well.
"You mean that one date was the only one outside of Hogwarts. How did you manage to actually date her for so long then?" Dean asked, amazed.
"I don't know we didn't really do all that much. I was really busy and so was she. We just kinda were together." Harry supplied.
"Now you know why I asked you to come up here and spend the day with me. Harry needs help, you're boyfriend can live without you for a few hours." Seamus smirked.
"A few hours, Merlin you're optimistic!" Dean was flabbergasted.
"Hey, I'm right here you know." Harry seemed to deflate a bit.
"Oh don't worry Harry we'll give you some tips and ideas. The real point is to do things you'll both enjoy. So tell me, what does Brittany like doing?" Seamus asked kindheartedly hoping to help his obviously floundering friend.
"She told me she liked reading, handing out, rough housing, and other normalish things." Harry replied. See I can remember things. I'm better off than Ron was with Hermione.
"Oh boy. This is going to take a while." Seamus resigned himself to the next few hours to educate Harry Potter on how to impress a girl.
Harry trudged down the stairs of the Boy's Dormitory after a long couple of hours. His brain was so filled with information it felt like it was all falling out of his ears. Scanning the Common Room he saw Ginny and Seth in the middle of a heated debate and smiled to himself. Ginny deserved someone that could truly make her happy.
She was too similar to himself and as they bumbled through their relationship both realized the attraction had changed. Ginny slowly stopped seeking affection, and Harry stopped giving it, aside from the occasional hug. She was a brilliant witch, but she did not appeal to him in a way he needed. She was his best mate's sister, and one of his closest friends. He was attracted to her fifth year, she was fiery and passionate and kind. She also, sadly, lacked a true need for him. Harry had grown up for years without begin needed, just a burden Petunia Dursley had to keep around.
So why was it that when Ginny and he reached a lull in their relationship neither moved to reinvent the spark or add more fuel to their own fire? He often asked himself this very question. He later realized over the summer the answer to this question. The more time the spent together, the more they grew apart as a couple. Ginny had wanted him, but she did not need him. Harry wanted to be needed, and wanted that person to be Ginny. Once the distance in their relationship began, he failed to reignite the flames. It was not because he wanted the relationship to fail. He had simply realized that having someone want you, versus having someone need you made the pair different. Love was a fickle thing and all to rare in Harry's life, but the driving desire to find others he could call friends that loved and needed him were essential. They all needed him in someway, just as he needed them, but none of them truly needed him as Harry himself.
Thus dating was just a horrendous affair most of the time. Rather than waste his time sifting through the female populous of his admirers, he chose to wait. The need in Brittany Zabini to have a protector, a hero, a white knight, the good guy, those fit into his needs well. She could handle her own sometimes. Of course, no one wanted someone so incompetent they could not care for themselves. She had this passionate personality, that was wrapped in a fragile and often times insecure person. She was not whole anymore, and sometimes put on airs to lighten the mood, or ease others suffering.
Harry understood that instinctively. She had trauma in her life, from a very young age. Hers was not the same his, she had parents, and they loved her, or at least they tried to love her. Harry never had that until Sirius came into his life. Blaise was her Sirius, and luckily for her he had not left her yet. He did understand family not understanding or caring for his own wants and desire and happiness. She never lived under a cupboard, but instead the pretty and fine things just helped to hide her own prison.
Dudley took great pains to torture him, but he was able to adapt and avoid him. Now as they were both older they had come to an understanding. Malfoy took great pains to own Brittany completely and she had adapted as well. She was just unable to fight Malfoy, her father, and Malfoy's own family. She was a pawn to be used, not for chores as he had, but for wealth and power an advancement of her father's place.
He reacted to her need so fiercely he wondered himself how that was possible. She was like Ginny in many ways, but she needed him. She may not be sure she wanted him, and he wasn't sure he wanted her either. They got on fine, and she was even improving herself, under his tutelage. Why was it that she smiled brighter when she saw him, or that he smiled a little more when she was in the room.
Harry knew a very deep integral part of himself needed to be needed. To feel so important to someone that if they vanished from his life for whatever reason, they would feel lost and empty. He felt that way about his parents, and Sirius all the time. He was lost without them. He made it though but it still wounded him deeply and the loss was prevalent in his life. The night of Malfoy's assault she clung to him as if he moved away or left he she would lose everything. In that moment he was her lifeline. She had accepted his aid and knew somewhere inside herself that she needed him.
He thought she was average looking before hand, her smile was pretty because it was kind and true. She found joy in simple things, and she was socially awkward and it worked for her. The moment she needed him, before either realized, she became very pretty to him, or rather perhaps important. His lips curved as he fingered the silver barrette in his pocket. She made him feel important as a man, and he really liked that about her.
So why in bloody hell is it so hard to figure out what to do on our date? I took Ginny to the Three Broomsticks and we had a blast. Seamus can stuff it. I am not going to take her out somewhere fancy, and I am not going to plan an agenda of things to do.
"Hey Harry, what's wrong. You look like Ron just asked you to apologize to Hermione for him. You've been staring off into space the last few minutes. You know you don't have to clean up all his messes for him."
"Yeah well, hopefully he doesn't end up like fourth year again, moping and passing messages through me to Hermione."
"That would be pretty awkward, 'Hey Harry can you tell Hermione that I think she looks really great in that top of hers. Her chest is just booming.'"
"Seth! Oh dear lord you are just incorrigible." Ginny dropped her quill and looked away.
"Aw I'm sorry Ginny. I thought it was funny." His arms flailed as he moved to get her quill before it ruined her parchment.
"She's not really mad you know. She's trying really hard not to laugh."
"Really? Well then I'm not sorry I didn't offend you and, well yeah."
Ginny and Seth began laughing. With the odd situation resolved Harry moved to the leave the Common Room. "You know if you are really that worried about it you could always ask her what she wants to do Harry. I think she'd appreciate it. "
"Britt isn't a big fan of surprises either. So if you're stuck just chat with her."
Harry walked out of the room shaking his head. Of course she knew what was really bothering him. Ginny was well and truly a sweetheart. He had seen the looks Seth covertly sent her way. As he reached the portrait he heard a small yelp. Hopefully that works out well for them. She really does deserve it.
Draco could not for the life of him understand why this was so hard. He loved her for Merlin's sake. He loved her and she ran from him at every step he took. She fought him at every gesture, even when he was trying to be nice. Why was it that every time she was around he became so upset at seeing her smile? Because I've never been the one to cause it. He thought spitefully. Watching Greg and Vince argue who could scare the most first years was not an appropriate distraction.
How was he supposed to make her see if she just gave in, everything would be fine. She was his, and that was that. She was his to love, his to tease, his to play with, his to do well anything. He owned her for as long as he could remember. She is mine. Not even Blaise has a claim over her that supersedes my own.
He was just too frustrated with trying to be nice. If she would not listen to reason she would have to be shown the obvious. She just kept fighting him and when she did that he just had to put her back into place all the harder. Having her run to Potter of all things infuriated him. Potter had not said one word to her before this year. I made sure enough of that in the past. She is mine damn it. Why did she have to run to that prat? I can protect her from the world and love her and keep her safe if only she would just get over herself. I am going to be her husband, my word is law and everything she's doing is only making it worse for her and her friends. Those louts will be the first to go.
It was mind boggling that she never once realized just how many women threw themselves at him. She was his, and all those women, well they were just for him to sample and enjoy. He was not married yet, and once he was he would devote himself to her and her alone. All the experience would make their bedroom more interesting anyway. He planned on being faithful, and kind when she was not being an absolute bitch. Why did she think he tried so bloody hard to show her what life with him was going to be.
It was not like he went to her planning to force her when they were younger. He just wanted to show her how much she meant to him She was his woman. If she had just bloody calmed down and let me touch her should would have seen how well I will treat her. I wasn't going to throw her aside and just be done with her. I'm never going to be done with her, I own her, or will soon enough. If I could just make her see she doesn't need to hide with Potty and his friends. I'm only going to hurt her when she makes me angry. If she stops being so bold and independent then I would not need to be so harsh with her.
The fruitless search for her had of course not helped his mood. She had avoided him at almost every turn for the past month. His own Godfather had forbade him from making another scene at breakfast or in public. He begged for the whereabouts of her room. No such luck, apparently being his fiance still entitled her to her own space. His Godfather went to great lengths explaining that causing her pain and pressuring her was going to only anger her further. What about how it's angering me? She pisses me off every time she mocks me or dismisses me.
At least Pansy was able to determine that she is struggling with her classes and anytime she is seen with Potter, someone else is also present. As much as it infuriated him to know they were spending any amount of time together, helping his fiance become a better witch was beneficial. He wanted a powerful witch who submitted to him, she was pretty and cunning, and if she was a good witch she was an even better prize.
She was safe at least from his fan girls attempts to assault her. Williams had dared to harm her, and he publicly informed the girl that her actions were so detestable that he would allow Greg and Vince to forcibly remove her from his presence in the future. No one was to harm her, except for him. Afterwords he would explain why she needed to be punished and hold her close as she apologized for wronging him.
He was already resigned to give her space to focus to her studies. This Christmas she was to explicitly stay with him over the break at Malfoy Manor, without her brother or any of her so called friends. His father expressed concern at his inability to entice the girl. Making sure she was in his presence alone for an extended period of time would help her see just what she was missing. For all her cunning she is oblivious to love. As hard as this is, at least I know she has never had feelings for another. My cousin lusts after the Weaslette, Rivers is fascinated by that abusive menace, and the other Ravenclaw likes her strange friend. She's never had any relationship, and that doesn't help her see why this is a good match.
Pansy was being a surprising aid to his stress passing along information and keeping tabs on his girl. If she ever stopped calling him 'Drakie-Poo' he might even consider sampling her as well. All for the betterment of his expertise in pleasing his own girl. Soon, soon she'll be mine and then I won't have to worry anymore.
He never realized that with less time spent around her, though he was frustrated, his mood was relatively better. The others in his inner circle did notice, but were wise enough not to comment to set him back into his destructive and violent moves. All save Pansy prayed that soon the idiot Zabini sister would just give into her fate. Their lives would be all the better for it. All except hers.
AN: Hopefully this gives a little insight into Harry's interest in Brittany. Also I wanted to really explain Draco's thought process. He does not love Brittany, he doesn't even want her. Just the idea of having her the way he wants her to be. He is obsessed with her, and because of what was explained last chapter, we see he is not evil or horrible. He's just unable to control himself, and maybe if things go well he can actually learn to let go and go after something better for himself. We'll have to see. He's still got a lot of damage to do, and then well see if Draco wants something more as well. XD Love you all.
