Okay so here's a sort of request story. This is for EmpressOfFlight who asked for a story to go with 'Letters from Damian', now this doesn't tie onto it perfectly but it runs along the same sort of think. ( I wrote letters from Damian that long ago I couldn't remember the exact back story). It is also for LuVySoNy who wanted Damian to be saved. Hope you both like it.

Damian stood at the very edge of Wayne Tower and looked out over the city. The wind that ruffled his hair was quite chilling at this height, but the boy showed no sign of felling it. He simply stood there and listened to the constant humming sound the city offered as its favorite song. He didn't have anything with him, no uniform, no tools. It was simply Damian Wayne that looked down on the city. He had come to love this city and nothing else in the world felt as good as knowing that its people slept safe because of him. Still his heart felt heavy with great sorrow. For all he had done for this city he never felt it loved him back. After all he had done for his family he never felt they wanted or loved him. Dick said he did, over and over again but the words meant little to Damian, who didn't understand what the words meant. His Father was distant at the best of time, Robin was able to get his approval but Damian never felt like he belonged at his father's side. His standing with Tim was very clear. But for all that he felt out of place with his family in Gotham he could not stomach the idea for going beck to his mother, not after all she had done.

So here he stood looking down, it seemed so simply. What ever lay waiting for him on the other side couldn't be more lonely them where he was now. In his head he felt all the inner workings of his mind flow steady and rationally. He stepped out.

Before he felt him self become weight less in free fall a gloved had clamped itself around his arm and pulled him back and way from the edge. In a state of slight shock all Damian could register was that the hand remained on his arm wile an arm wrapped its self over his chest as he was dragged backwards.

"What the hell are you doing?"

Damian was surprised to hear Jason's voice. He looked up at the rebel child of the family, then back out over the city only to find he was now safely a few meters from the edge.

"Let me go Todd."

"Not until you tell me what the hell going on. Why on earth where you thinking?"

Damian felt Jason's grip tighten.

"I'm simply unwanted here and see no point in staying and coursing more problems. Also mother does not want me."

Jason froze at his 'little brother' was saying.

"What do you mean 'unwanted'? Dickie-bird would have a brake down if he heard that."

"With me out of the way Grayson would simply have more time to help father and fuss over Drake."

Jason was simply silent for a moment, this kid really felt he was making the right choice. He was so unfazed by what he had just tried to do it scared Jason.

"You can't really believe that can you? My word Dick would die if he knew that's how you felt."

"Why would I think any differently?"

"Because he loves you! I mean this is Dick we're talking about, he still loves me after all I have done. You can't really believe he wouldn't be crushed beyond repair if I hadn't stopped you. And putting Dick aside for a moment, what about Bruce?"

Damian looked like he was really thinking about how to answer. Jason hoped his intervention was working.

"Father would hardly find it a problem. Drake would go back to being Robin and Father would no longer have to spend his time worrying about what mother plans to use me for or me ruining everything."

The boy was set. Not a single hiccup in his deduction. This was wrong so very wrong.

"I…you… Oh to the heaven…where exactly did you draw those conclusions from?"

Damian looked up at Jason, though doing so was hard as he was still yet to let go of the smaller boy.

"Was it Dick hugging you or worrying over every scratch or Bruce's nightly check-ins to make sure you're not having a nightmare. Maybe it Both Dick and Bruce redoing the whole manor security to keep the league away from you so your safe."

Damian froze lost somewhere between trying to understand what all the information meant and how Jason knew about it.

"Or if you really want to go into the details of it all how about Tim's hidden message?"

That really caught Damian's attention.

"Message?"

"Yeah the one that was part of the virus the destroyed the leagues computers. Stay clear of Damian or this is only the beginning."

Had Drake really done that? Challenged the whole league in order to keep him safe.

"What part of all this is going over your head?"

Jason was clearly reaching his end. Damian still showed no sign he understood and he didn't know what else to say.

"Love."

"What?"

"I don't understand what this 'Love' is. People keep saying it and acting like it means something."

"It means everything Damian! What about love don't you understand."

"Love is an attraction to a person in a strong and often sexual way."

"No...no…no. That's a kind of love, not what love is."

The boy in his arms looked up at him almost begging for an explanation. How had he ended up here? This was defiantly no his thing, but he couldn't let the little bird kill himself. No he was the only bird allowed to die young and that was only because he was the only one awesome enough to come back.

"Love is… Love is the way Dick always forgives you when you screw up. And how Bruce smiles out of the corner of his mouth. It's the Teddy Dick gave you and the photo of you next to Bruce's bed. Love is why Batman needs Robin and why Bruce has so many kids. It's the part of you that stops you from killing Tim and makes him protective of you. It's the reason I'm standing here with my arms around you rather then smashing up a drug dealer and enjoying a drink, don't tell anyone I said that."

Damian thought through what Jason had told him. They were all things he had noticed but never understood.

"Let's get you home. I think you need a warm night in and some serious down time."

Heading for the fire escape Jason grabbed his grappling hook from his belt. Ready to get this kid home and make sure Bruce knew what had happened.

Damian for his part felt a part of himself light up. Jason didn't let go of him till they had made it to the manor and were safely inside. Turning he looked up at the young man.

"Thank-you Jason." And with that Jason let him head off to his room, a smile on his face. Jason watched as he picked up his teddy and moved a family photo to his bed nightstand. Jason smiled.

"Love you little Bro, don't forget it."
