They had been running for almost 10 minutes. They ran in silence, circling around, sending scouts ahead, checking behind them, all to make sure that they hadn't left Robin only to get cornered again. It was definitely safe to say they were not being followed. After all that running with an arrow still puncturing her leg Artemis was fuming and broke the silence. "If I ever see that guy again I'm going to personally make sure to stick one of my arrows up his-"
"Artemis, I do not believe that this is the time to be planning revenge." Aqualad interrupted. A loud and audible huff came out of her mouth. "First we must get away from any prying eyes and find shelter."
Connor nodded. "He's right with Zatanna still unconscious and you injured, we're sitting ducks, especially out in the open. However we still need to deal with our clothes. I mean let's face it, I go out and talk to a person fine but you guys, in tights you're just asking for trouble."
"Then its settled. We shall search for shelter and look for civilian clothing as well," said Aqualad. All in agreement they kept moving only this time at a slower pace. It didn't take long before they hit a thrift store. After much debate and scrounging up the little bit of money they could they finally sent Superboy into the store. Being the only one in semi-civilian wear it was the most reasonable option.
He came out successful 15 minutes later with some casual clothes that would help them all remain inconspicuous. After changing they saw that they were in a part of the city that looked as if it had been hit with an earthquake. There were almost no buildings left undamaged. When they finally located one that look as if it would provide decent cover, Aqualad turned to Superboy and gave him a nod.
Seconds later he replied "Only a few rats and some furniture. It's is as safe as we're going to get."
"Then this is where we shall reside for the time being." Aqualad led the team inside and Zatanna was placed on the best couch they could find. "Artemis you shall stay here and tend to your injury as well as Zatanna. Superboy and I shall look for rations and information. Don't worry we shall find the others and we will get Robin back."
Whatever Robin was expecting when he burst through that door, well what ever it was it definitely wasn't a successful club. It would have been perfect if for Bruce as a playboy, but a kid running through a club is going to stand out just as much as a caped superhero. There were footsteps pounding up the stairs behind him and he knew he had to move. However moving through an empty room is a lot easier than trying to weave between sweaty dancing bodies. When Robin finally made it through he bounded out the door into the sweet cool night. With a sprint he ran at the nearest wall and shot his grappling gun at the roof. As soon as it caught hold of something he wasted no time in pressing the retract button and letting it carry him up. Once on the safety of the roof Robin made note of his location so that if he ever needed to infiltrate the place again, he could. He ran for 15 blocks, then stopped to take a breather and another look around to make sure he was in the clear. Alright first things first. I need to get into something that will let me avoid recapture. Once Robin was in the safety of the shadows he slipped his spare pair of civvies over his uniform and swapped his mask for sunglasses. The best part of his choice in clothes was that they were nice and baggy so he could keep his belt on and no one would see it.
Sliding down into the nearest ally he quickly pulled out cell phone to call the manor. It wasn't long before someone picked up the phone and he let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness I'm not alone.
"Bruce?"
"I'm sorry, I don't know how you got this number but Master Bruce hasn't been home for over 2 years." Replied a crisp British voice on the other end of the line.
"What are you talking about Alfred?"
"I beg your pardon, but do I know you?" Robin's heart dropped all his worst fears coming true.
"Alfred it's me Dick." There was no answer. "Richard Grayson, ward of Bruce Wayne."
"I assure you I would have known if the Master decided to adopt. Is this some kind of prank-"?
"Please." He interrupted, voice almost in a panic. "You have to help me. I don't know what's going on, KF and Meg'an are missing. I don't even know where the rest of the team are and I'm still recovering from a recent arrow to the shoulder."
"Oh my, that sounds like quite the situation but the real question I should be asking is why should I believe one word you've said when I don't even know your location." Perfect it was a test. One that I knew I could pass with flying colors.
"You already know where I am." He started.
"Oh and how would I know that?"
"You have been using your mad M16 skills to track this call since you picked up the phone." Robin could hear him smirking over the phone. A+
"I'll be in Starling City in a few hours with some medical supplies. I'll call you then and we can meet face to face." Starling City; the layout is all wrong, But then again so is Bruce being gone. My stomach growled and brought me back to reality.
"Thanks Alfred and um, do you think you could bring some of your famous cookies please."
"We'll see what I can pull together." Yes! He's probably going to bring an entire meal with him.
"Thanks, you're the best," I said. My smile almost exploding off my face.
"Goodbye, Richard."
"It's- never-mind, goodbye Alfred." With a click he hung the phone up and decided to explore the city. There are two explanations if Bruce is still training maybe I went back in time but if its not that then I'm feeling an alternate universe. Well if this is Starling City who knows I may run into someone familiar.
