*Chapter 10: God of Voodoo*
Judy is on the sidewalk in the dark night, shivering in cold and fear. But she felt a grip on her shoulder, making her gasp and look up at the nun. Judy recognized this woman from town where Judy is walking to school the other day.
"You shouldn't be here!" The nun said. "He'll find you here!"
"You know about-"
"Come on, child, I know a place where you can safe from Charles." The nun said. "Come with me. God can protect you as long as you pray for protection." Judy didn't say anything afterwards, but she knew she will have to trust this old woman since she is a nun. "The church isn't far from here." She said.
"Why are you helping me? And...who are you?" Judy asked as she is catching up.
"There are some friends who knows the killer, child. And we will help you destroy him with voodoo. I used to be one of the witch doctors, but I gave up magic for peace." The nun said. "Voodoo is dangerous."
"You mean they're real? Curses and everything?" Judy asked.
"Yes." The nun said. "Now, you can call me Sister, or Greta. I know who you are, child. You are Andy Barclay's daughter, Judy."
"How do you know about us?" Judy asked.
"There is a God of Voodoo who knows so much. He will speak to you when we arrive." The nun said. Judy is silent. God of Voodoo. Now that is something. Spirits are real, but Judy never knew that she could actually speak to them. Maybe she can try to speak to her mother.
"Are we almost home, mommy?" Judy asked in a sleepy tone. Kristen is driving as Judy rubbed her eyes after a long sleep. Kristen told her daughter that they are almost home, and then lights appear on the left, and Kristen turned to see a truck driving towards her and Judy. Kristen screamed and have her arm out in front of Judy from getting harmed, and they got in the crash...
Sirens were heard around her, and voices. Judy groaned a little and try to sit up, but she was strapped on the carrier with doctors around her. She can also see a man who was arrested for drinking and driving. He's the one who ran into her and Kristen.
"It's alright, sweetie." A doctor said. "You're going to be alright. We're taking you and your mother to the hospital-"
"Mommy..." Judy whispered as she sees people taking Kristen's body in the different ambulance van. "Mommy!"
"Shh, it's okay." The doctor said. "We have to go. We called your father, and he will be there for you. He's relieved you're okay..."
"What about my mom? Is she okay?" Judy asked. The doctor didn't reply to her as he puts her in the van. They are off to the hospital.
Judy was laying on the bed with bandages on her arm, and on her head. Her face was cleaned up, but the cuts were still noticeable. She kept asking about Kristen, but the doctors told her to wait for her father. Judy rests her head back to the pillow, and saw Andy coming in. She sat up a little as Andy gently hugged her, and planted a kiss on her head.
"Oh, sweetie. Are you okay?" Andy asked. He had tears in his eyes.
"I'm still in pain..." Judy said. Then, Karen and Mike walked in the room, their eyes are red from crying. Are they tears of joy or sadness? Judy looked at Andy in concern. "Is mommy okay?" She asked. Andy sighed a little.
"Judy..."
"What is it? Where is she?" Judy asked. "Is she okay?"
"Judy. Your mom..." Andy started, trying to hold back the tears. "She's...gone." Judy stares at him in silence. Her heart is pounding, and her throat is tightened. Kristen is dead. "Judy, she didn't make it..." Andy said, bringing her back into the hug. Judy sobbed in Andy's shirt. Karen and Mike watched in sorrow. Judy's sobs continue, and Andy still holds her close. He doesn't want to let her go.
Greta and Judy arrived at the church and walked inside. Judy sees the African Americans around, turning to her. But, a teenage girl with long black hair came to her. She touched Judy's forehead with her hand. She pulled away and took Judy by the hand.
"Come with me." She said in a quiet voice. "Our Voodoo God is expecting you."
"Voodoo God?"
"The Almighty Damballa. He's been watching you since Chucky is trying to get to you at your home." The girl said. "He taught voodoo to the ones who needs it, but Charles Lee Ray wasn't around that time. My grandfather, John, was Chucky's teacher in the 80s. But, he was murdered by Chucky. I wasn't born until the mid 90s." Judy felt sorry for her. This girl was taught by someone around her neighborhood voodoo. Could be relatives. "This way." The girl said, taking Judy to the big room where the big cross is hanging above the stained window, and booths are everywhere.
"Wow." Judy said.
"Come on. Our Voodoo God is right here." The girl said as she gestured the table where the voodoo merchandise is, and a red candle in the middle. Judy stood in front as the girl came around her to face her across the table and the candle. "Now, I want you to listen very carefully."
"Okay."
"This candle is special. Once its lit, Damballa will speak with you. But we don't need to light it ourselves. We must call him." The girl said. "I'll go first to let him know you are here." She shuts her eyes and her hands are waving around the sides the candle without touching it. "Mighty Damballa. It is I, Ruby, whom call your name. Judy Barclay needs your help. Come to us." After a few seconds of silence, the candle lit. Judy gasped in shock. Ruby smiled.
"Was that-?" Judy started, but Ruby held up her hand to silence her.
"Damballa, Voodoo God, thank you for coming. Here is the girl you want to see." She said. Judy stares at the candle light in silent. She waited for the voice, but she hears nothing. "Can you hear him?" Ruby asked. Judy shook her head. "Forgive her, Voodoo God. She is new to this. Shall I help her hear you?" Ruby asked the candle. Judy then watched Ruby walk around the table and place her hand over Judy's forehead and shut her eyes. "Don't be afraid, Judy." She said. Judy shuts her eyes too, and then hears a soft wind and a deep voice.
"Judy Barclay, daughter of Andy and Kristen. My people spoke to me that you and your family are in grave danger, because of Charles Lee Ray is after you all. But do not afraid, my child. I am here with you now. When you prayed to God, I was sent to protect you from the doll. When you pray to be safe, I will be there for you to protect you, my child. Charles cannot get through with my power. I am too powerful for his voodoo that cheats death. We use voodoo for good and need, not for evil. Cheating death is not the answer, and Chucky's soul will be removed from the doll once you have the book to reverse the spell. To find it, you must go to Charles' apartment where he keeps his belongings from years ago, and he had some voodoo tools there. You must hurry, my child, there is no time. Remember, pray for I, who will protect you from Chucky. Good luck..."
Judy pulled away with a gasp and look up at Ruby who stares at her. Damballa spoke to her! And he is helping her by protecting her from Chucky with his protection spell once she prays. Now she will have to tell her family and friends about how to stop Chucky once and for all. The candle light disappeared, and Ruby turned back to Judy.
"You sure you are up to this task?" She asked. "If you are, then I am coming with you. I want to have my revenge on that bastard who killed my grandfather."
"Sure. But, I have to get back to my family. They are back at my grandma's house and Chucky could still be there." Judy replied.
"Then we must hurry." Ruby said and took Judy out of the room to leave the church and tell the others that they will be careful and stop the killer doll from hurting more people.
