Hiei's POV
I nearly killed the fox. He had his filthy hands on the onna, guiding her onto the ship and over to the railing. There are so many demons here. None of them stand a chance against me. I bet even the weak onna could take them on. The detective fell asleep quickly, certainly not wasting any time.
"Welcome to all! I have some good news to tell you," a pirate announces. It must be time to begin the slaughter. "We won't be long to organize the elimination rounds!" As I thought. The deck of the ship opens, and a large, round battle arena rises from it. The oaf gasps at the arrival and announcement, along with all of the lesser demons. I glance at the onna and I notice that she's gripping the railing tightly and wincing slightly. "The fifteen teams on the island have already been qualified. From this boat must be left only a single team."
"Those bastards. I thought we were invited!" the oaf says in what I assumed was supposed to be a menacing tone.
"It makes sense, Kuwabara. Our team is for entertainment. And they want only the best," the onna explains. Her hands were still gripping the railing. The rumbling of the ship must have scared her.
"Choose the strongest of your team. The surviving team must then participate in the tournament!" The lesser demons wasted no time choosing their combatants and sending them to the arena. However, our team was held up by the baka's loud idiocy.
"A battle royale? Yusuke! You go show them the results of your training!" Finally, the fool realizes that the detective is sleeping. He began shaking the unconscious human, an action that gain him an impressive glare from the onna. She actually looked somewhat intimidating.
"He must have received severe training. He's sleeping to recover his energy," the fox says plainly to the baka.
"Who's going to go, then?"
"It looks like Yusuke's mysterious fifth fighter would like to," the onna muses, pointing to the small man already heading to the arena.
"Hn, the clown? We'll see what kind of stomach he has," I smirk, staring after him.
"And if the idiot loses the match? What do we do then!?" the stupid voice yells again.
"I don't think we have to worry. The energy coming from that person is quite strong," the onna smiles.
"And if he fails, we simply kill everyone else, that way no one can complain afterwards," I say darkly.
"H-hiei!" the onna squeaks. So innocent… I poke at the elaborate barrier she's erected in her mind. After a moment, she allows my mind entry.
"Onna, this is how the tournament is run. This is why you shouldn't have come. There's no room for compassion," I say bluntly. Maybe I can convince the onna to leave. She's too innocent. I don't want anything to happen to her…wait, shit, I don't give a damn if something happens to her. Baka onna. A being as weak and beautiful as her will be every lesser demon's target. Hn, but I don't care.
"I disagree," the onna says back, "Not all demons are cruel. Look at yourself and Kurama."
"Hn. Kurama is half-human now. And you've yet to see me in combat."
"Whatever you say, Hiei. I'll definitely prove you wrong."
"I can't wait to see you try, onna." She nods at me. Her silver eyes were burning with determination. She was so stubborn, but I guess that's why I am so interested in her. The fox glances at me, but I ignore him. I was still going to kill him.
"Start!" I barely pay attention to the battle that was happening. One way or another, we'd be moving on, so the outcome of the shrimp's match didn't matter much to me. Instead, I allow myself my mind disobeys me and begins thinking about the onna. She was hiding her wings as a precaution. A human in a den of demons was one thing; an angel was much different. I noticed she had begun wearing a read kimono with a nearly-white shade of blue sash. I wonder if it had anything to do with how she described my aura. The colors looked good on her. For some reason, I found myself wishing she had her beautiful wings in view, but I savagely murdered that thought.
My attention returned to the battle when the onna spoke. "It looks like they stole your idea, Hiei," she grinned. She looked so excited.
"Hn, good. I was getting bored," I lie with a smirk. The onna reaches into the sleeve of her kimono, still grinning, but I gently shove her behind me. "Stay behind me, onna."
"But…" I don't listen to her complaint. Instead, I slash through a large group of lesser demons. I continue hacking through demons, aware of how awestruck the onna seemed, before I noticed her attention turn towards the detective. The detective stands and knocks away some demons looking for an easy target. I keep slashing the demons in front of me, noting the oaf going after the last of the demons near the detective. A glint of metal catches my eye and I finish off the last demon in front of me and turn towards the detective. A familiar kunai is embedded in the demon's jugular, stopping him from attacking the detective. The kunai is yanked back to its owner by a nearly invisible energy string. The onna? I glance at her and see her tucking the weapon back in her sleeve with a satisfied smirk. That kunai…it was from a set of six that I had found for her. I nearly smiled smirked at the recognition. I still don't know what had possessed me to buy them for her. She was just too weak to hold anything heavier, but her aim was dead on. And the blush I received from the action was perfect whatever.
"Even when he sleeps, he trains. His training must have been rough," the fox says after the detective stops beating the air. "That was a very nice throw, Mitsukai," the soon-to-be dead fox compliments.
"Th-thanks," the onna's face turns a cute shade of pink. "I am Yusuke's big sister, it's my job to protect him." She smiles at the fox, and I feel my blood boiling in my veins. Stupid fox! Making my the onna blush and smile like that! "Besides, it was all thanks to Hiei's training!" She beams. All at once, my anger disappears, replaced with a strange mixture of feelings, embarrassment and…do I have feelings for the onna? No. Stupid.
"Hn. Nice job, onna. The string was a … nice touch," I mumble. My face felt strangely warm, and it was uncomfortable. But the grin that spread across her face was worth it.
"There it is! We've arrived!" the oaf announces. I swiftly grab the onna's arm (gently) before the fox is able to steal her from me again. I lead her to the hotel where a human greets us and leads us through the human infested lobby. The onna squeezes my arm fearfully as we travel through the lobby, and I feel my lips turn up slightly into a foreign smile. Mitsukai, you may just prove me wrong.
