Logan woke up the next morning in a grateful mood that it was Monday and he didn't have to go to class. There was no way he was in a state to sit through a biology and a math class. After changing into a set of clean clothes he left his room for downstairs. He thought he heard sniffling coming from Carlos's room. The doors to the guest bedrooms were open and when he checked on the one he thought Alexa had went to bed in he saw it was empty.
He couldn't believe the revelation of yesterday. Carlos was in some major trouble with those new friends of his. The way he just appeared and then disappeared was so unlike him.
Ending up in the kitchen, Logan began a pot of coffee and sat at the counter waiting. He thought maybe he could call Camille but it was only 7AM so she might not be up, yet. He didn't think she had anything on her schedule for the day.
"I told you it was church!" James shouted into his phone not thirty minutes later. With his phone cradled against his ear and his shoulder he poured himself a cup of coffee and joined Logan at the counter. "It's no big deal. Trust me."
Logan watched James have a fight with Lucy over what he suspected was the girl he went to church with yesterday.
"I love you!" James continued shouting.
Logan laid his head on his arms on the counter. He didn't want to hear James shouting, but he was interested in the outcome of the conversation.
"No, Mom," Kendall walked into the kitchen on his phone, obviously talking to his mother. "Yes…no…she's here…I don't know."
"Well, that's pretty selfish of you!"
"That was James, Mom. I think he's fighting with Lucy."
Logan snuck out of the kitchen and headed back upstairs. He wanted to sit there and listen to both conversations, but James's yelling was giving him a headache.
Hearing the sniffling, he decided to check it out. He figured upon opening the door to Carlos's room he would see Alexa and he did. His heart broke at the sight of her crying in her sleep. He knew she couldn't be getting any actual rest but he couldn't bear to wake her.
Not caring whether he woke her up or not Logan went back to his room and called his girlfriend. He had called her last night to update her on Carlos, but he was too worn out to have a proper conversation.
"Hello?" Came a groggy voice on the other end.
"Sorry, did I wake you?"
"Time to get up anyway. Any news on Carlos?"
"No. I did tell you he came home yesterday?"
"Yeah. How are you doing?"
"I don't know. I'm losing my best friend. Alexa's crying in Carlos's bed and James is fighting with Lucy. Camille, I think I'm going to go mad before all this is over."
"I wish there was something I could do."
"Just be here for me."
"Absolutely. Do you mind if I'm here for you while I get some breakfast?"
Logan laid down on his bed and chatted with Camille about everything and nothing. Just hearing her voice calmed him down. He didn't worry about Carlos. He didn't think about anything but just hearing his girlfriend talk and talk she did even while eating a bowl of cereal.
"…received the pilot script Saturday," Camille said when there was a loud crash. "What was that?"
"I don't know." Logan left his room and headed down stairs to see what was the commotion. "Carlos is on the floor of the foyer with the ugly plant on top of him."
"What?"
"I guess he crashed into the plant." Logan turned to Carlos. "Are you okay?"
"Cooool." Carlos jumped up. "Oh, yeah, I came by on the way to the skate park with the guys to tell you I found my phone." He pulled two broken pieces of a smart phone out of his pocket.
"Would you like me to get Alexa? I think she'd really like to talk to you."
"No thanks. I gotta go. The guys are waiting on me." He jutted his thumb toward the door.
"Good thing you found your helmet."
"Yeah."
Logan watched Carlos walk out of the cabin without saying goodbye.
"Friends fight," Camille said over the phone as Logan made his way into the kitchen where James was still arguing with Lucy. "You've all had some big fights before."
"Yes, but none this big."
"Whatever, Luce. I'm sick of arguing about this. I know what I did, but I guess there's just no talking sense into you." James slammed his phone on the counter. "Women. I'm gonna work out. Join me."
It was more a statement than a question so Logan felt he had no choice but to say yes. Logan got off the phone with Camille, changed into some workout gear, and joined James in the basement gym. He noticed Alexa was up and did the polite thing by inviting her to join them, but she declined. If he had run into Kendall he would have invited him too, but he didn't know where that boy was at the moment.
"What's going on with you and Lucy?" Logan asked in between arm curls. He was no beginner at this, but he did use a smaller weight than James.
"She found out I went to church yesterday with Fallon. I wonder who could have done that."
Logan looked away obviously, whistling.
"I didn't tell her exactly. She just happened to be listening to the phone conversation I had with Kendall, well, Kendall's end so it's his fault. What's the big deal about her finding out you went to church anyway?"
"You know that's not why she's mad." James put down his weights and wiped his forehead with a towel. "It's because I spent all day with Fallon."
"Yes, that would be a good reason to get mad." Logan put down his weights and grabbed the water bottle on the floor next to him.
"Doesn't she trust me?"
"What would you think if Lucy spent all day, even if it was at a church, with a guy?"
"OK, I get her point, but doesn't she trust me?"
"Would you trust you?"
"Are you saying you don't trust me?"
Logan sighed. "I'm just saying your reputation, you used to be, you know how you used to be."
"A big flirt. I know. But, I've changed. You said so yourself."
James ran a hand through his sweaty hair.
"Don't beat yourself up. You have to show Lucy you've changed so she can know she can trust you. I think you're doing a good job so far; you've just hit a hitch in the road."
"I've got to show her she can trust me. How do I do that?"
Logan shrugged. "You're the one who's good with ladies."
James nodded. "I'll think of something. Hey, I know, let's get Kendall and Alexa and go out for lunch. We can hang out around town or whatever and get our minds off you know…"
"OK, yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I gotta take a shower first."
"Well, yeah, I wasn't planning on going out looking like this." James motioned to his sweaty body. "I may have changed, but I still don't believe in going out in public looking sweaty and gross."
Fifteen minutes later Logan climbed out of the shower and after wrapping a towel around the lower part of his body, he stepped into his room to search for some clean clothes to wear when Kendall burst into his room unannounced. He stepped back when he saw Logan undressed but still with the towel.
"Th-the hospital. C-Carlos is in the hospital."
I'm watching episode 3.4 Big Time Double Date and it makes me wonder if Kendall had chosen Lucy like Scott Fellows wanted if he'd have actually paired up James and Katie in season 4. Now, I know Katie would have been something like 13 and James would have been around 18, but… When they're singing "Covergirl" all the guys have a girl to sing to and the flashes for James are Katie. I know we shouldn't take it too seriously as Carlos and Red Dress Jennifer don't date again after that episode. But, you put this with all the times Katie denied having a crush on James and him looking out for her on her date with Kyle. Maybe Fellows wanted them to end up together but decided against it when Malese Jow returned for season 4 (and someone knocked some sense into him that an 18/19 year old shouldn't date a 13 year old, especially on Nickelodeon!).
