She's broken and I'm far away

A/N: This was going to be in first person but since I thought of a cute, funny little scenario, it's switching to third. Anyway, enjoy.

"You what?" He asked, looking up from the book at his friend.

"I like your mom." David repeated, ignoring Bryce's look of amusement.

He glanced back down at his work, replying, "There are three things wrong with that. One, my mother is missing; two, that's creepy; and three, she's missing."

"That reminds me, how come none of this is on the news?"

He shrugged, answering, "I don't know, you'll have to ask my father about that."

Meanwhile, Shadow exhaled irritably glaring as his co-worker stood beside him, asking, "How's the search going?"

"Not well, haven't found a single damned lead. Why are you here?" He retorted, tapping his fingers against the desk.

"Commander wanted to see you."

"About what?"

"He wouldn't tell me." He answered, stepping back as Shadow made his way to the commander's office.

Closing the door and taking a seat, he said, "You called."

"Knowing of your recent loss, I'll let you take the week off. In return, you stay after to fill out papers." The commander retaliated, much to Shadow's surprise.

Shaking his hand before leaving, he replied, "Deal."

Unlocking the door, he loosened his tie slightly as Shade ran to hug him, calling, "Hey, dad…why are you home early?"

Lightly petting her, he answered, "My boss gave me a week off to look for your mother. Er, where's Sam?"

"Uncle Vector is with him in the lab."

Briskly walking to the lab, opening his mouth to yell at the crocodile only to stop, as Vector blurted, "Hey, Shadow, what's up?"

Regaining his composure, he answered, "Vector, we've had this discussion before; Shade and Sammy are not allowed in the lab under any circumstances."

Brushing off his complaint, he swirled around revealing his son's green eyes spark in enthusiasm. He waved, hopping out of Vector's lap and leaving with his sister in tow.

"Any leads?" Shadow asked, sitting next to the boisterous reptile.

He shook his head, answering, "Naw, nothing. I don't get it, there's no way Sandy would leave or even let her energy drop."

"I might be wrong, but the only person we know that can force someone to lower their energy is the doctor. He isn't that stupid, so…you've got to be fucking kidding me!" He yelled, abruptly standing and leaving to Vector's utter confusion.

A/N: I loved writing the beginning; anyway since school is tomorrow the chapters might be need to be held for a month or so. At least until I can have time to post and everything.

Sonic: How I haven't appeared yet?

Shadow: Because you're not relevant.

Guys, calm down. Sonic, you'll appear, just not now. Anyway, review please.
