Today was the premiere of Jo and Jett's new movie I'd Walk a Mile. It was a TV movie, but because of that Jo was to be busy all day with interviews and things. This meant she had no time to talk to Kendall. It hurt. Not so much that she couldn't talk to him, but so much that he couldn't talk to her. He was learning with every passing second how much he couldn't stand to be away from her. He'd never felt something so intense before.
When they had their little breakup last year it was because they fought while he tried to teach her how to drive stick. What they didn't realize at the time was that everyone fights when learning how to drive. He was going to fight with his baby sister when he helped teach her how to drive in a couple of years. Wow, she was fast approaching fifteen, the learner's permit age, and sixteen, the driving age. But, anyway, fighting was part of the program when it came to teaching one to drive. Sitting in Gustavo's Porsche with Jo had him realize that he'd rather fight with her as boyfriend/girlfriend than have a "smooth sailing" just friends relationship.
Then there was Lucy. What was he thinking there? Oh, he knew what he was thinking. Lucy was there and Jo wasn't. Jo was in New Zealand and Lucy was at the Palmwoods. He'd felt some kind of physical attraction toward Lucy, but that's all it was. Well, that and a musical attraction. She was a good musician and he enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with her. With Jo there was an emotional and spiritual attraction. He felt connected to her in a way he'd never connected with anyone. It was far beyond anything he could comprehend. His heart knew and that's what led him to her door that day. His heart wouldn't have it any other way no matter what his brain tried to tell it.
He was glad he'd given up on Lucy for another reason. He saw how happy James was with her. James loved girls, that was a given, and he'd seen him with plenty of girls over the years, but the way he was with Lucy he'd never seen James that way with another girl. James treasured Lucy and it was a fun thing to watch. Except when he was being a bonehead with Fallon.
Kendall shook his head. He shouldn't be thinking about Lucy when he's reminiscing over Jo. He loved Jo. His heart told him so. He didn't like pining. Pining hurt. Laying in bed thinking about his girlfriend made his heart ache. He wanted to be with her. He wanted to hold her hand, caress her cheek, kiss her lips. He wanted to talk to her. He wanted to just sit with her and do nothing. They didn't have to do anything. Just being in her presence was enough.
He sat up quickly. If this was a cartoon a light bulb would have flashed over his head.
"I know what I have to do!"
"Does it involve helping me?" Logan called out.
In light blue boxers and a dark blue t-shirt Kendall climbed out of bed and made his way to Logan's room. Dressed in blue jeans, black socks, a gray long sleeve, and of course his black sling Logan sat on his bed banging his left hand on the keyboard of his laptop.
"Typing one handed is hard." He looked up at Kendall with pleading eyes.
"I am not going to sit here and type for you all day."
"What else do you have to do?"
"I have to go to the store."
"Carlos and I went to the grocery store yesterday. We're fully stocked."
"Not that store."
"A jewelry store?" Logan questioned as Kendall pulled the SUV into the parking lot of a local Aspen jewelers. Kendall had convinced Logan to join him instead of moaning about his current lack of typing skill, but he didn't tell him where they were going. "Going to get Jo another necklace this time? I promise I won't take it from you."
"Not a necklace."
"A bracelet? Earrings? She doesn't have anything else pierced, does she?"
"A ring, Logan. We're here to pick out a ring."
"What kind of—no!" Logan's eyes widened and he stopped in his tracks. "You're not planning on?"
Kendall nodded and opened the door to the store.
"You do know you're only almost nineteen."
"It doesn't matter. I know what I want. BTR is successful enough and Jo's career is blossoming. We can definitely afford to start a life together."
"But, you're only almost nineteen. Don't you think you're a bit young? You may be financially ready but are you emotionally or mentally?"
"I know Jo's the girl I want to spend the rest of my life with."
Logan patted Kendall on the shoulder.
"OK, if you think this is the right thing to do, I support you. Good luck, man."
"Thanks."
"You're just, you know, putting me in a lot of trouble with Cam."
Kendall gave him a look of confusion.
"When she finds out she'll be pestering me to do the same thing. I love Camille, but I am nowhere near ready to be anyone's husband." Logan looked directly at Kendall. "Are you sure you're ready? You're only…"
"If you say 'almost nineteen' one more time I'm going to call Camille up and tell her you want to marry her."
Yes, the TV movie came out pretty quickly but I think that's how things work in the BTRverse.
I'm in a real battle with my brain over whether I should add more to this chapter. It's so short, especially compared to the last chapter. But, I think it ends well. So… Well… This is it.
