Chapter 9.
The very reason why Serena van der Woodsen came back to New York was for her parents' upcoming wedding. The wedding was set to happen in four months and by now, a lot of the wedding details and preparations were settled - the venue, the color schemes, the flower arrangements, it was already chosen by the bride and groom-to-be.
Serena and her brother, Eric sat on one of the couches at their parents' penthouse, skimming through the sketches of gowns Jenny had brought over a couple of days ago. Lily had chosen Blair to design her wedding gown, much to the young brunette's delight, and Jenny to create the bridesmaids' and maid-of-honor's dresses. And now that both set of designs were done and shown to her, she asked her two children to pick out what stood out the most. Lily would've helped them but she had to go to The New York Times to discuss with the editors the coverage to the wedding they wanted to do. And also their father was in LA to attend a business meeting, so that left the two van der Woodsen children alone that afternoon.
"Hey S?"
Serena looks up from the dresses she's been staring at and shot Eric a questioning look.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." She sends him a quick smile before going back to looking through the designs.
"I meant with Dan and Georgina."
Serena stays still for a minute before sighing. She closes the drawing pad before turning to her brother.
"Yeah. I guess so."
"I don't mean to pry or anything..." Eric started. "...but Jenny told me what happened. Is it true?"
"What?"
"That.. you know... the thing with Dan and -"
"The cheating? With his current girlfriend?" She snorts, hitting Eric with a pencil.
News travel fast between them and it surprised Serena that it took her brother this long to confront her. She knows Jenny told him immediately when she came to see Lily the day she finally told Blair the whole truth, Jenny's sympathetic eyes were a dead giveaway. And she thought that as soon as Jenny left, Eric would bombard her with questions which thankfully he didn't. She just told Blair then and she knows she wouldn't be able to handle it if Eric comforted her that day.
"Yeah. It's true." Serena bit her lip when she felt tears forming. God, why is she crying? There is really nothing worth crying about. She's supposed to get used to and get over the idea of DanandGeorgina together.
"I'm sorry, S. I didn't - -"
Serena hastily wiped her tears before turning her attention back to the designs. Eric sighed but stayed silent. After about ten minutes, Serena groans before looking at Eric.
"Let's eat something." Eric stares at her, a suspicious look on his face that Serena just had to roll her eyes at.
"Serena -"
"Come on, E." Serena closes the pad she's been looking at before leaning over to Eric and closing the sketch pads in front of him as well. "We could go get coffee, croissant, cupcakes, whatever."
"Yeah? Okay. Let me just clean this up then we'll head out."
...
They ended up in Bass Industries eventually. After getting coffee and cupcakes, well croissants for Eric, the younger van der Woodsen suggested that they visit their step-brother and Serena immediately agreed.
So, that was how they ended up in front of Chuck's secretary who was eyeing them quite suspiciously.
"Name, please?"
"Uhh.. Serena and Eric van der Woodsen."
"Do you have an appointment with Mr. Charles Bass?"
Serena, although trying her best not to, giggled at the mention of Chuck's real name. It wasn't even supposed to be funny, just that she's not used to hearing people refer to him as Charles, she's even pretty sure her mom's the only one who calls him that outside the office.
"Well. uhh - -"
"Then I'm sorry but you're not allowed to speak to him this moment as he on the phone with someone right now."
"Who?"
"I'm not allowed to tell you that." The receptionist rolled her eyes at them before faking a smile. "I'm sorry but you really need to leave."
Just then, the doors in Chuck's office door opened and he stepped out, eyes scanning over the room before landing on Serena and Eric. He smiled slightly before walking over to hug them both quickly.
"Oh, I'm sorry Mr. Charles, I thought they were - so, I just - -"
"It's fine, Vidia. Allow them in whenever they want. They're uhh... family."
"I'm Serena, his step-sister and this is Eric, my brother and obviously his step-brother." Serena shakes her hand with hers, a wide grin etched on the blonde's face. "I understand that you don't know me seeing as I came back only a few weeks ago. Eric, however, I really don't quite - -"
She stops rambling when she hears someone clear their throat and when she spins around, she saw that Eric had already gone inside the office and Chuck was standing just outside his office, a few feet away from her, and he was smirking at her. She smiled briefly at Vidia, mumbles a quick apology before scurrying to Chuck's office.
"Okay, I understand her not knowing me but Eric?" Serena asks before plopping herself on one the couches. She grabs a piece of cupcake from the bag and starts munching on it as she looks up at Chuck curiously.
"She's new." Chuck explains, stealing the croissant from Eric's hand before sitting down on his chair, slightly smirking at the blonde.
"Ahh..."
"Is there really any reason for your visit?" Chuck drawls.
Serena simply shook her head, smiling sweetly at Chuck, causing the guy to roll his eyes at his sister. She and Eric stayed there for about an hour before Blair showed up at Chuck's office, a hand on her hip and glaring at her husband.
"Chuck!" Blair screeched, crossing the room within ten seconds to stand directly in front of Chuck. He simply raised an eyebrow in response while the two siblings sat there amused.
"What do you want Blair?"
"You told me to meet you at Victrola at 1. I waited for an hour for you, you Bass-hole!" Blair yelled, unaware of her best friend and her best friend's presence. Well, if she was aware, she sure doesn't show it or she just doesn't care.
"B!" Serena called out, making the brunette spin around to face her. She quickly explained that the reason Chuck didn't show up at Victrola was because of their surprise visit, with Eric occasionally nodding his head in agreement. Blair's anger subdued easily, although she was still a little annoyed at Chuck.
"Still, you should've at least called me up to tell me that Serena was here. You know, I would never pass on the opportunity to hang out with her." She said to Chuck, now opting to sit on her husband's lap.
"Sorry, slipped my mind."
"Well, next time don't, okay?" She whispered, wrapping her arms around Chuck's neck.
"Hmm... Next time." Chuck slid his arms around Blair's waist, pulling their bodies closer together before nuzzling on her neck.
"Okay, I think that's our cue to leave." Serena stood up quickly, not wanting to see anymore of Chuck and Blair kissing. Sure, she thinks they're absolutely adorable together but that doesn't mean that just because Chuck's her step-brother and Blair's her best friend, they can make out in front of her. Not that that stopped them before - they do that all the time in front of her, Nate and/or Eric - but it's really not that fun to watch.
Chuck pulled away for a brief second to raise an eyebrow at her.
"You're not enjoying the show, S? 'Cause I can make it more interesting and... Fun."
"Right, Chuck. Come on, E, we're leaving! Mom should be home by now." She hurriedly gathered her things, leaving the empty cups of coffee and the bags of pastries on the table before blowing Blair a kiss - she won't go near them, not in their position - and dragging Eric out of the office.
...
The elevator door opened, signaling that they're on the right floor. Serena and Eric stumbled out of the elevator, giggling as Eric tells her about his boyfriend, Jonathan. Yeah, they got back together about eight months ago, and apparently, they have a date tonight.
"Eric! Serena, darling, finally!" Lily called out as soon as she spotted the two. She quickly walked over to them and gave them both a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek. She led them to the couch, where they all sat down.
"So, mom, how was the meeting at the New York Times?" Serena quipped, playing with her phone.
"Oh, it was wonderful, darling. I think I got the best writer for the wedding."
"Really? Who is it, mom?" Eric piped up, sitting up straight.
"Oh, he should be here any min -" They heard the elevator open. "Oh, finally, here he is!"
.to be continued.
A/N: I absolutely love Serena and Eric's sibling moments. I wished they had more scenes together on the show, also Serena and Chuck. I love their banters and how they really care for each other as real siblings. I'll try to update faster! :) I hope you enjoyed this one!
