If I gave you the truth
A/N: Not much to say except when I post a new story it'll be a one shot and I'm posting it on my dA account first since I barely post there anymore. Anyway, this chapter will be in one of the children's perspective.
Bryce's POV
Moving my hair out of my face, I remembered I never asked dad to cut it. But on the brightside, neither of my parents mentioned getting a call from the principal about Maria and I, hopefully. I mean the only reason why we keep getting into fights is because those two idiots, Noah and Spencer, continue mocking our family's pride.
"Why are you up so early?" The sudden question startled me, until I relaxed seeing it was only uncle Sonic.
"I couldn't sleep, and I thought we had school today. At least, mom and dad won't find out about the fights, right?" I asked, trying to convince myself they didn't know.
"I hope so, just be lucky you have parents like them." He answered, coming out of the doorway.
I nodded, saying, "I guess. The only consequence if they find out is training everyday with them, well with dad."
Getting in trouble by dad is worse than mom, the only thing she'll do is scold us and ground us. Dad, on the other hand, may be proud or not and force us to train then ground us. He chuckled, replying, "Well, he just doesn't want you guys growing up the way he did."
I raised an eyebrow, asking, "How'd he grow up?"
Noticing a bead of sweat trail down the side of his head, he quickly replied, "Go and ask him, I'm sure he'd be happy to answer your question."
"But…" I stopped watching as he zoomed out of the room. I groaned and got up, going into the living room expecting him to be reading the newspaper by now. Seeing mom there instead, I lowered my energy not wanting to get a hug from her.
I didn't feel like getting the life squeezed out of me today or any other day. Eh, it's like asking her won't hurt. Standing in front of her, I started, "Mom…"
She interrupted me by hugging me; it felt like a python squeezing its next meal. I squirmed, gasping out, "Mom…let go…can't…breathe."
Dropping me, she rubbed the back of her head, replying, "Sorry, what were you gonna ask?"
I smiled, inquiring, "How did dad grow up, and where'd he get all those scars from? There's no way he could've gotten all of them from war."
"Well, uh, he got them from an accident when he was younger, and I, er, have no idea how he grew up."
Narrowing my eyes, I figured she was lying. But why would dad not tell us about him? Glancing at the book she was reading, I asked, "What are you reading?"
She blushed and held it to her chest, replying, "Nothing, ain't you supposed to be looking for your pa?"
I nodded, nearly forgetting the task at hand. Deciding to check outside, I didn't see him in the training room, so my next guess would be the roof. Looking up, I still didn't see him, much to my disappointment.
"Boy, what are you doing out here?"
I jumped and swiveled around, meeting my father's questionable gaze. "Looking for you; I have a question."
"Spit it out." He stated, crossing his arms.
"Well, I don't think you got all your scars from war, so where'd you actually get them from? Also, how'd you grow up?" I asked, finding more interest on the ground than him.
Hearing him sigh, I felt his hand on my head. He answered, "I'll tell you when you're ready, but I grew up as normal as you will, just with a few complications."
Not satisfied with his answer, I persisted, "But you had to get your scars from somewhere. I'm sure you told mom what happened, so why not us?"
"You guys are too young. I just don't want to relive that, especially when I'm trying to protect you as best as I can."
"You can at least tell me if you were actually in an accident."
"I was, but she did it without justification." He replied, starting back to the house.
A sudden thought occurred to me, as I asked, "How come grandma and grandpa don't talk about it?"
He stopped and turned towards me, replying, "Memories no one wants. Now, come inside, it's starting to get dark."
Following him inside, I mulled over what he told me and how it barely answered my question. Going to bed, I planned on asking him tomorrow since it was a Monday.
A/N: I won't lie; I think I'm showing favoritism towards them. I can explore more with Bryce, I might try a chapter with Sammy or Shade later on, since in a few days Maria and Bryce will be 14. Review please.
