Chapter 16.

Dan reluctantly pries his eyes open when he heard his bedroom door open and close to find his sister, Jenny Humphrey, sitting on the edge of his bed, staring at him enthusiastically. He's kind of surprised that Vanessa wasn't there because when he left last night to go to Serena's, he could hear his sister and his best friend gossip about the 'date'.

"What do you want J?" He groans, turning away from the blonde, covering his face with a pillow, which two seconds after, Jenny grabbed and flung away from him as far as possible.

"Jenny, it's..." He pauses, grabbing his phone from the bedside table, checking the time. "...seven in the morning. You know, I could really use some more sleep."

"No more sleeping! Dan!" She shrieks as she flops down his bed, closer to him. And he's kind of wondering how Jenny managed to have this much energy early in the morning. "I want deets! Come on, Dan, you and Serena went out on a date -"

"It's not a date."

"Whatever! You and Serena went out last night and you went home at midnight, something must've happened." Jenny started bouncing on his bed, trying to get him to budge. He tried swatting her away and out of the room, but she simply continues, even nudging him repeatedly.

"Nothing happened, alright Jen?" He mutters, slightly annoyed. "We ate then we took a walk before ending up at Central Park. That's it, that's all you'll hear from me."

"Fine, fine." His sister sighs, giving him one last shove before standing up. However, before she could reach the door, she noticed something that looks like it's been carefully placed on top of his table. Normally, she wouldn't even care because it's just one of Dan's notebook, however, this one was new - something she hasn't seen before - and from how it was placed, this notebook definitely has some more value for his brother that it the others.

"What is this?" He looks up, one eye closed, muttering how it's just some notebook before dropping his head back onto the pillow.

"Yeah, I know it's a notebook, but I've never seen it before and it looks new, when did you buy this?"

"I didn't buy it."

"So, why is it here? Who bought it? Is it even yours?"

"It's mine but I did not buy it. Serena gave it to me last night."

...

"Wait a second, you mean to tell me that you finally gave him the notebook that you bought in LA more than two years ago? The one meant for his birthday?" Eric inquires as he took a seat beside his sister, a cup of coffee in hand.

"Yeah." She replies sleepily as she steals Eric's cup of coffee - Eric tried swatting her hand away but eventually gave it to her, standing up to get another. "And why are you here and up so early? Shouldn't you still be sleeping?"

"I should be." Eric responds, as he finishes pouring himself a cup of coffee. "But here I am."

"God, you're worse than Blair."

"Who doesn't know, and that's the only reason why she's not here today demanding answers from you. And besides, if Blair knew she would never agree to let you and Dan go on a date."

"It's not a date."

"Fine." He rolls her eyes at her. "Blair would never agree to let you and Dan go out last night."

She tells him that of course, she knows that of course and it's kind of one of the reasons why Serena didn't tell Blair about it. She does not need a lecture from Blair Waldorf about how wrong it was, and knowing Blair, she would have had a lot to say.

"Okay, fine." He raises his hands up in mock surrender, sipping a his cup before turning back to her. "But let's go back before the notebook giving you did, what did you guys do before that?"

"Well, we went to grab some dinner then after that we took a walk in Central Park. We eventually we got tired and sat down, then I gave him the notebook."

...

"What happens next?" Jenny asks, slightly bouncing on her brother's bed, kind of like a little kid who's about to get a present on Christmas.

"Seriously? You look like you're about to scream." Dan quipped, earning himself a punch on the shoulder. "Oww!"

"Just tell me the story, alright?"

"Okay, sheesh." Dan rolls his eyes at her. "Well, she gave me the notebook and she explained that she found it while she was looking for her shoes and -"

"So, that notebook..." Jenny starts, gesturing towards the notebook placed on the table. "... Was in her boxes of shoes?"

"Does it matter?" Dan let out a sigh of exasperation.

"Well, not really but out of all the places - -"

"Do you want to hear the story or not?" Dan asks. "Because I could still get some extra hours of sleep."

"No! I mean, yes, I wanna hear your love story." Dan glares at her. "Okay, fine! I'll keep quiet now."

"Well, I examined the notebook, flipped it over and over and over and -"

"Dan!" She screeches, realizing that Dan was dragging his words and is, therefore, prolonging the story - the interesting part, that is. "Get to the interesting part!"

"What makes you think there will be an interesting part?"

"Because!" Jenny hits him on his shoulders a bit harder than necessary. "It's you and Serena! Of course, there's an interesting part."

...

"Well, then I left." Serena sighs, gulping the last contents of her cup.

"You left? What do you mean you left?"

"I stood up and then he offered to take me home but I refused since he's going to Brooklyn and I'm headed the other way and I don't wanna burden him because we are not on a date..." She glances at him pointedly at the mention of the word 'date'. "..so I just walked away from him."

"So, you just left him alone?" Eric muses, amused. "That's not very interesting at all."

"Is it supposed to be interesting?"

"Well, if it were other people, no, not really." Eric answers. "But since it's Serena van der Woodsen and Dan Humphrey, yes, I was expecting something interesting."

"Well, there is an interesting part."

"What? You leaving Dan alone after your "non-date"?"

"No! But I was having trouble hailing a cab and then after a few minutes, I heard him call my name so I looked and I saw him walking or running towards me and the next thing I knew he was kissing me."

"Dan kissed you?" Eric asked incredulously.

...

"Aaaaaaahhhhhh!" Jenny squeals, hitting her brother at least four times. "You kissed Serena?!"

"Could you be any more louder, Jen?" Dan replies, irritably. "I don't think the people in Los Angeles can hear you."

"I knew it! I knew you and Serena were meant to be. I knew it!" Jenny gushed, grabbing her phone to call Vanessa.

"Woah, slow down Jen!" Dan grabs Jenny's hand in mid-air, making her drop the phone. "I totally forgot that you just might be Serena and I's biggest fan."

"Why? Hey, I was about to call Vanessa!"

"And now you're not." Dan looked at his sister, pointedly, as if telling her that whatever it is Jenny was planning to share about the non-date could wait. "We did not get back together last night, if you must know."

"What?!"

"Exactly what you just heard, Serena and I didn't -"

"But you kissed her, right?" Jenny asked, just as a thought suddenly dawned to her. "Wait, please don't tell me you're still with Georgina?"

Dan doesn't answer, instead opts to stand up and walk out of his room and away from Jenny. The youngest Humphrey, however, was following him, demanding answers.

"Look, Jen..." Dan says, his voice higher than early, making Jenny stop in her tracks. "It's not like I could call Georgina in the middle of the night to break up with her!"

"But you will, right?"

"I - - I don't know, okay? I mean maybe I was just overwhelmed last night that she forgave me and..."

"Dan." Jenny cut him off, looking at him seriously. "Do you still love Serena or not?"

...

"I don't know. Do you think I still do?"

"Well, if you ask me -"

"I am asking you."

"As I was saying..." Eric continues, shooting his sister a playful glare. "..based on what I've been seeing these couple of days and what I heard about what happened last night, I think you still love him."

"Oh, god!" Serena buries her face into a pillow, letting out a groan.

"Wait, so does that mean that he'll broke up with Georgina? Do you think that he will?"

"No - I don't know." Serena mumbles into the pillow then lifts her head to look at him. "It was pretty late when we got home so I seriously doubt he could call her in the middle of the night just to break up with her."

"Maybe he's doing it right now? Do you want him to? You do, don't you?"

"No! Don't say stuff like that!" Serena speaks, hitting his shoulder. "And besides, he's probably still sleeping."

"So, you're hoping that he'll realize he still loves you and break up with Georgina when he wakes up?"

"What?! No, of course not!"

"Just so you know, I'm pretty sure Dan's already awake by now." Eric comments, earning himself a confused look from Serena. How the hell does he know that?

"Jenny called me - woke me up, actually - and told me to talk to you." Eric supplies, when Serena continues to look at him curiously. "She told me she's going to squeeze information from Dan and that I should do the same to you."

"So, that's why you're so early!" Serena smiles, teasingly. "Because I'm pretty sure you told me you and Jonathan were hanging out last night."

"Hey!" Eric protested, blushing slightly. "We were hanging out last night."

"Sure."

"Yeah, we did the things that you and Dan did like eat dinner, take a walk - not on Central Park, though - and of course, he's my boyfriend so we might've ki -"

"Okay, Eric." This time, it was her that was blushing. "You can stop now, okay! I get it."

"But you know, with me and Jonathan, it is pretty normal since we are together and -"

"Eric!"

"Alright, alright!" Eric said, chuckling to himself, trying to avoid the hits on the arms Serena's been giving him. "I'll stop! I'll stop!"

...

"Why are you even still here?" Dan asks, annoyed by Jenny's constant teasing. "Don't you have work to do or something?"

"Umm... It's a Saturday." Jenny states, as a matter-of-factly.

"So?"

"So, if you must know Waldorf Designs are closed on weekends, remember?"

"Don't you have to go somewhere? You know, so you could stop nagging me to break up with my girlfriend -"

"That you don't really love." Jenny sing-songed, teasing him again to which Dan just rolls his eyes at. "Because you know, you are still in love with a blonde named Serena van der Woodsen."

"What are you talking about?"

"Just admit it, Dan Humphrey! You are still in love with Serena van der Woodsen! Otherwise, you wouldn't of kissed her."

"I'm done talking about this. I'm going to just go get some more sleep!" Dan shouts, retreating to his bedroom.

"Are you going to be dreaming about Serena?" Jenny teased, hearing Dan groan as his bedroom door slammed shut.

"Well, I'm going out to meet Eric, okay?" The only response she got was another loud groan. "I'll see you later, Dan! Bye!"

...

"Wait, don't you have plans today? You know, besides demanding information from me about Dan." Serena asked, a part of her genuinely curious and another part just wants him to leave so he could stop teasing her.

"Well, I did agree to meet up with Jenny later so that -"

"You two could exchange your thoughts about Dan and I?"

"Yeah, you could say that." Eric smiled at her.

"Ugh!"

"Hey!" Eric states, acting offended. "I'm just trying to help you realize -"

"Realize what exactly?"

"That you are still in love -"

"Don't finish that sentence!" Serena warned, standing up and heading to her bedroom.

"Hey, where are you going?" Eric calls after her.

"I'm gonna take a shower and go to Blair and Chuck's or The Spectator or anywhere just to get away from you!" She screamed back. "And you should probably go meet up with Jenny as well. Go on and gush about what happened!"

Eric laughs at her statement before starting to gather his things.

"I'm going to go now. I'll call you later, Serena! Bye!"

...

"So, what do you think?"

"What do you think?"

"I think they still love each other."

"Well, besides the obvious."

"Well, I think based on what you said that he won't break up with Georgina yet but it won't be long til he does."

"And then he'll be free to tell Serena how much he absolutely loves her and that he wants her back and how he never stopped loving her even after all these years and Serena will say that she still loves him as well and then finally they'll kiss again and they'll get back together and -"

"Woah, okay, slow down there, Jenny!" Eric told the blonde as he tugged on her arm to stop her from walking. She catches her breath as she stared at her best friend.

"What? Aren't you on Team Dan and Serena?"

"Well, I think they're good for each other."

"Good? Good?" Jenny practically shrieks into Eric's ears, causing him to stumble backwards. "Eric, they are not just good for each other, they're perfect for each other!"

"Geez, you really are the biggest Dan and Serena fan!" Eric laughs, as he started to walk again with Jenny falling into step with him.

"Well, don't you think it's meant to be?" Jenny glances at him as she throws him the question. "Because I think they're love is forever."

Eric simply laughs at his best friend.

"Alright, come on Jen!"

.to be continued.
