"Hey."
Sitting in a cabana at the Palm Woods pool Friday, Logan looked up from his stack of notes and text books into the face of Jo. Camille was on the set of her web series leaving Logan to spend the day by himself.
"Mind if I sit down?"
Logan shook his head.
"You probably hate me, don't you?" Jo sat down across from Logan as he cleaned his mess up a bit to give her some room.
"Why would I hate you? You just broke my best friend's heart."
"I'm sorry. I really am. I love Kendall—"
"Not enough to marry him."
"No, enough to marry him. But, come on, don't you think we're too young?"
"But, you really broke his heart."
"I've tried talking to him, but he won't talk to me. I've called him twice. Well, the first time I called three times and texted once with no response and the second time I gave up after the second call."
Logan looked at Jo. She had tears in her eyes. She wasn't crying, yet, but he knew it was coming.
"Do you want to marry him?"
"I don't know. I mean, I know one day, but right now? We're both only nineteen. My dad just moved back to North Carolina, so I'm only now just learning to live on my own. I feel like I've just barely become an adult and to add on a marriage? Even if it is to Kendall…"
"You really need to talk to him."
Jo gave him a look. "I'VE TRIED!"
Logan dialed Kendall's number on his phone and then handed it to Jo.
"Hey, Logan, what's up?" Kendall answered.
"H-hi."
"Jo?"
"Kendall?" She returned with a hopeful expression on her face.
"I've got nothing to say to you."
"Ken-Kendall—" she blubbered. Tears fell as she handed the phone back to Logan. "He hung up."
"What are we going to do?" Logan said that night over dinner with his girlfriend, Camille.
"Make up for lost time." Camille waggled her eyebrows after biting into a dinner roll.
"Not about us. Kendall and Jo."
"Logan," she drew out, "let's let tonight be just about us. I've missed you."
"I missed you, too." Logan sipped his water. "I just can't get this off my mind. If Kendall would just listen to Jo…"
"He can listen to her tomorrow. We've got tonight." She gave him a pleading look.
"OK, OK, I'm sorry. I'll—let's talk about something else. How was work?"
"Boring."
"Boring? But, you love acting."
"Yeah, but all I could think about was you here and me not…here."
"I missed you, too, but it did give me the opportunity to talk with—"
"Don't you say it!"
"Jo," Logan finished.
"If I wasn't sitting on the other side of the… ah, hell." Camille leaned over the table and slapped Logan.
"Camille!" He hissed. "Not in public." He glanced around the restaurant hoping no one watched, but all eyes were glued on them. He gave out a polite smile.
"Logan!" Gustavo yelled into the phone about an hour later. "What is up with this picture on E!'s website? 'Big Time Trouble in Paradise'?"
"What?" Logan didn't remember doing anything that could be remotely considered scandalous.
"I'm sending you the link to your email. By the way, what are you doing in LA?"
"Visiting Camille, my girlfriend."
"You're not propo—"
"No!"
"Good. We don't need any of that right now, although it would counteract this image."
"I'm not in front of my computer right now, what is it a picture of?" Logan had been taking a walk with Camille after dinner, but they stopped when his phone rang. He wasn't going to answer it, but was afraid the wrath of Gustavo would be bigger if he didn't. Yes, he did have access to the internet on his phone, but as he was in the middle of a conversation he couldn't look up his email.
"You and Camille at Chez Fancy, her slapping you."
"Oh, that's nothing. She does that all the time."
"What do I do all the time?" Camille asked.
"Slap me," Logan answered which prompted her to do it right then. "Ow. See, she did it again."
"Weird. How long do you plan on staying in LA?"
"I have class on Tuesday."
"Class?"
"Oh, I didn't tell you I'm taking some classes at Aspen State."
"You're supposed to be on buhreak!"
"I am. I like school."
"Weird. Just don't mess this up. I haven't exactly negotiated a new contract with Griffin, yet. If he sees you here he may think you're ungrateful and…"
"I got it, Gustavo."
"All right, well, no more trouble with your girlfriend, please."
"No problem."
"I see you didn't tell him about your exams." Camille reached for Logan's hand after he placed his phone back in his pocket.
"Why should I? I already know his answer."
"I know you don't want to just skip your tests and fail the classes."
"I talked to my professors and they both told me I had to talk to the dean of the department."
"Is that like the principal?"
"Sort of. Each department, like math, science, history, English, has its own dean, so I have to talk to the Dean of Math and the Dean of Science regarding Calculus and Biology."
"Are you scared?"
"Of what?"
"Talking to the deans."
"Can't be any worse than talking to Gustavo."
We're over the hump and closer to the end with every chapter. Hope you've enjoyed the journey and keep hanging on the ride! Also, I think Logan would be kind of timid talking to Gustavo. Kendall would have no problem asking him anything, but Logan's not as brave as Kendall.
It always bothered me in Big Time School of Rocque that Logan got upset when they found out they had to go to school. I could understand getting upset at having to go to the School of Rocque, but Kelly just said they had to go to school and he got upset with the rest. I don't think he actually admitted on the show that he likes school, but he does like to read, he does the boys' school work in Welcome Back, Big Time as well as mentioning other times when he's helped them with their homework. He wants to be a doctor. He likes learning. He does learning type activities like attending a Phoebe Nachee lecture. It just leads me to believe it's out of character for him to be upset that he has to go to school. I blame it on being the third episode of the series they hadn't established that aspect of his character.
Originally the conversation between Logan and Gustavo was supposed to be a face to face conversation between Gustavo and Kendall. Well, I mean, Gustavo wasn't going to complain about anyone slapping anyone or any misconstrued E! scandal, just that the boys need to be careful because he's still in contract talks with Griffin. I couldn't get a good place for it to fit when Kendall visited and I thought maybe it was just not going to get in the story, but today I found a place for it. (and now that I think about it, how does Gustavo not know Logan's taking college classes? There has to be some paparazzi photos on the internet somewhere).
If you're reading this far down, thanks. March 28 is Something on a Stick Day so come join me (and Carlos Garcia) in celebrating with a corn dog.
