I reappeared in the shadows in front of Zoë. She jumped slightly and knocked an arrow to her bow, aiming it at my forehead. "Boy! You are supposed to be at camp." She snapped. I swayed and leaned against the wall, slowly sliding down it. The wound in my leg was bleeding heavily. I swallowed and formed my dagger, quickly hacking at the fabric of my trouser leg. Blood ran down my leg, covering the open flesh wound and making it seem better than it probably was. A shadow fell over me; I looked up and saw Annabeth. She was holding out a flask I shook my head slightly and lightly pushed it away.
"It's Nectar." She said shoving it back in my face.
"It won't work." I muttered, "I am not a half-blood." Looking around the room my gaze landed on a glass. I flicked my wrist and an orb of water floated over to me. I directed it onto my leg and let it wash away the blood.
The skin around the open hole in my leg was slightly green. The blood was frothing slowly. Using my dagger I cut a bit of my sleeve off and tied it round my leg like a tourniquet to slow the bleeding. I slowly stood up, wincing.
"What happened?" Annabeth asked looking worriedly at my leg. I remembered and turned to Zoë sharply, almost falling over.
"The General, he's here. In the Natural History museum, Luke and Thorn were there to."
"What? Impossible! He can't be here!" Zoë barked her bow shook slightly, "You lie!"
"Luke? He's here?" Thalia and Annabeth said shocked in unison.
"I would not lie about him! He is a T-" I exploded.
"Do not finish that word!" Zoë barked. I dry swallowed, feeling adrenaline coursing through me. My body trembled. I took a deep breath and tried to calm down.
"He sent something, almost definitely a monster to distract the quest." I hesitated slightly, "He raised skeleton warriors from the ground, from the teeth of Sybaris. They were given a Hunter's scarf." Zoë paled.
"What could the monster be?" Thalia asked.
"Not something easy to send to Tartarus."
"We should go now, guys." Grover bleated. I could sense a monster approaching.
"Run!" I yelled and a roar parted the air. The Satyr took off, the others following on his heels. I couldn't run so I turned. A massive lion the size of a pick-up truck was looking down on me. I back-pedaled slowly as the lion advanced. Mortals were screaming and running out the room. The lion pounced, diving through the air to tear me to pieces. I swallowed and summoned a fire to start; my clothes erupted in a white-hot inferno. I ducked and released off two fireballs at the underside of the lion. I felt the drain on my energy and almost fell over. The lion spun round to face me again, I turned and ran. Sliding down a ramp I vaulted over the railing and landed on an aeroplane. The Nemean Lion followed me; jumping after me I dived onto a space capsule and nearly slid off the other side. Grabbing onto to edge of the capsule before I smashed onto the ground floor I swung myself onto another. I flinched as the impact jarred my leg. Climbing the wire attaching the capsule to the ceiling I jumped back onto the original floor I was on, whatever I had landed on was burning, white flames eating up everything in its path. I limped across the floor, trying to reach a door when there was a snarl behind me. I cursed and turned, the lion was stalking towards me, its lips pulled back to bare his teeth. I could briefly see a pink tongue flicker.
There was a yell and a hissing noise, I looked behind me to see Zoë and Thalia beside each other, bows raised and another arrow knocked. Grover was behind them playing his reed pipes.
"What are you doing? I said run!"
"Saving your butt! What else?" Thalia yelled.
"Dive!" Zoë barked. I immediately dived to the side and managed to get a very nice view of the lion's stomach.
"Aim for its mouth!" I shouted to the two girls. Two? Where is Annabeth? I shook my head and turned to face the lion again, he had decided that the girls were the biggest threat. Holding out my hands I summoned my swords, feeling the rapid drain on my energy, far more than I was used to. I could barely stand up but I charged the lion, ducking under its stomach. There was a snap and the head of an arrow fell in front of me. I cut at the back of the lion's leg, it roared and its leg buckled. Dancing from underneath the lion I grinned, using the air around me I rose. The lion tried to swat me. I darted under its paw and beside its head, the hilt of my Katana struck out. I saw a faint shimmer on the lions back, a thin distortion in the surrounding golden coat. There was one way I could think of to get to the things mouth; there was a chance I could die. 'You will die anyway; can you not feel the poison coursing through your veins?' I listened to the voice, I knew who it was. As soon as Tartarus started stirring I heard it. I swallowed and ordered the air to raise, the lion kept its eyes on me, the girls' arrows shattered harmlessly against its pelt. When I was slightly higher than the lion's head I stopped. Releasing the air from my control I fell, as I had hoped the lion looked up. I manoeuvred myself as I fell into the right position and as the lion opened his mouth went into a dive, my swords held out in front of me. I slipped between his teeth and fell down his throat. I could hear yelling outside. I held my swords out horizontal, as I fell they cut into the soft skin of the lion's throat. Gold dust rained down around me and the lion's throat convulsed. Everything around me was golden; the lion was disintegrating around me.
The dust covered ground approached, I let go of my swords and they dispersed into shadows. I closed my eyes and turned stomach up. I slammed into the ground, hearing a loud snap I felt the rest of my energy run out. Everything around me blackened.
