Without You
A/N: I'm sure most of you will be upset at me for this, but it needs to happen. I wasn't sure whether to do the chapter after this in first or third person. Anyway, there will be an epilogue. Werewolf99, I don't really have an opinion on him.
Shadow: I don't think that'll be necessary, Werewolf99.
Shadow's POV
"I'm not letting you go alone. I don't exactly trust them." I protested, reaching for her.
She smiled, replying, "I'll be fine, quit worryin' so much."
I wouldn't worry as much if she would've just stayed away from here. Embracing her, I murmured, "Be careful, Frau."
Watching her go through the door, I resisted the urge to go with her. She needed to do this alone, but the consequences. I know I sound weak right about now, but I can't live without her. It's as if we need each other to get through this. Keeping tabs on her energy, I paced biting my knuckle through my glove.
'Calm down, her energy is stable. They're probably just discussing something.' Mephiles reasoned, manifesting himself in front of me.
"I doubt that, if something happens then how am I going to tell the kids? How am I going to live with myself?" I inquired, running my hands through my quills.
'You said it yourself; she can take care of herself in a situation like this.' He replied, seemingly getting fed up with my worrying.
Turning to him, I bit my lip, asking, "But what if she…she dies?"
Not getting a response, I sat down lighting a cigar in the process. Rushing towards the door at feeling her energy plummet, I held my breath fearing the worst. Opening it, I saw a crowd gathering around statues. Where is she? Seeing another door, I burst through it, finding her hunched over.
Setting her in my lap, I looked her in the eyes to find them completely white, but they weren't glowing. Putting my ear to her chest, I heard a faint beat signaling she was still alive. Starting to transfer my energy, her irises came back except they were dull.
"Don't. I'll be fine." She said hoarsely, putting more effort in breathing. Holding her closer, I squeezed my eyes shut hoping for this to only be a nightmare.
"Damn it, you can't. Please, I can't…what about the kids? They still need their mother, right?" I asked, gripping her tighter.
Loosening my grip, I looked down at her. Eyes having lost their luster, and a still heart. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry…" I continued muttering, not feeling the faint breathing of fatigue from her.
Not feeling or hearing anything, I collected myself and left. The woman I adored and taught, limp and lifeless.
A/N: Sorry it's so short. I've never really written a death scene, but this did make me cringe and want to sulk. As stated in the first note, there will be an epilogue. Any questions? Review please.
