Chapter 15 - An Immortal Shall Make A Deal
Two massive armies were facing each other on a plain. In one army were thousands of Cyclopes and the three Hekatokheires. In front of them were six figures, each at least 12 feet tall.
The other army was made up out of thousands of monsters: hellhounds, empousa, Scythian dracanae, drakons and Hydras all arrayed in battle formations. In front of this army were 20 figures. Two of them were ahead of the rest. One wielded a scythe. The other held a shield that was shifting and showed the elements, in his right hand was a Trident that was completely black. The butt of the Trident had a black metal point. The figure at the scythe wielding one's right ground the butt of his Trident into the earth and stepped forward.
"I was wandering when I would see thou six again. This is a very nice area, is it not?" He gestured around the plain. "I quite like the Plain of Thessaly. So tell me, gods," He sneered, "What makes thou think thou can defeat us the Titans?"
Two of the gods stepped forward, one wielded a Trident, and the other wore a bronze helm. "Brother, it is not too late for thou to join us," The older one said softly. The Titan's expression softened slightly but he shook his head.
"I am sorry little brother."
"He will not join us, Hades," The youngest of the gods said, "There is no point asking again." The two gods stepped back sadly.
"As touching as this is, I would rather fight." The scythe-wielding Titan said.
"Of course, Lord Kronos," The Titan with the spear said, "Archers!" The first few lines of the Titans' army crouched down as a black cloud of arrows descended onto the gods' army. Whilst the gods' army were recovering he ordered a charge. The eldest son of Kronos faced his father as the army split to pass them and took off his helm, tucking it between his body and arm. The image faded until Seth could only see a single pair of dark, golden eyes staring at him.
"Your deadline is approaching," A voice said from the direction of the golden eyes. "You will have to choose between the gods of Olympus or us, the Titans of Orthys. Who will you choose?"
I woke with a start, still hearing Kronos' voice echo in my head. My clothes were wet with sweat and my hair was stuck to my forehead. With my head spinning I sat up. A sudden surge of dizziness surprised me and I clutched my head, my fingers brushing across the scar stretching over my right eye.
Two Scythian Dracanae were standing outside the open doorway, seemingly guarding the room I was in. The walls were plain and the room was bare. I didn't know where I was, the last thing I remembered was inside Talos' head, then darkness. I tried to stand up but my legs shook slightly as they bore my weight and I fell back to the bed.
I felt weak.
Before I had died, I thought I didn't have to work with others. I pushed them away, thinking I wouldn't die and that I could live my long life away from the eye of the gods. I had failed in that aspect and now I had almost died, again. The gods had caused this! Zeus with his paranoia, Hades had bowed to Zeus' wishes and he wasn't an Olympian, he had no reason to agree with Zeus. Nico, Bianca and I could have lived in the Underworld as I had done.
This was all Zeus' fault.
I felt new energy fill me as my rage at the gods grew. My body was quickly heating up. The gods do nothing but sit on Olympus, lounging on their thrones as their world enters war. I pushed myself up using the energy I had gained from my anger, my right leg throbbed as my weight rolled onto my wounded leg. Gritting my teeth I headed towards the open doorway.
"You could have called for help," A voice said. I looked up from my feet to see a now familiar son of Hermes.
"I did not know where I was, if I was in a hostile environment or not," I narrowed my eyes.
"And are you?" He asked.
"I am still deciding that," I chuckled, "Since you let me use the lovely bed in there for… How long, exactly?"
"Nearly two days. It is sunset."
I gestured to the room I had just left, "And left me alive. I am inclined to think that this is a friendly environment."
"Are you being formal to annoy me?" The son of Hermes asked with one eye twitching.
"If I was trying to annoy you, you would have run away already." I started limping forward again and the demigod watched with sky blue eyes.
"You could ask me to help," He pointed out.
"I could." I nodded, "But that would show a weakness. I would rather not show any weakness here." I continued walking.
"Sometimes, weaknesses are good. The enemy underestimates you. They can be an advantage."
"That may be, Castellan. But it does not disguise the fact that my two guards," I pointed at the two dracanae that were following us. "Would as easily kill me as protect me – or whatever it is they are doing."
"If it was up to me I would have given you many more. You are powerful."
"I am not sure whether to be insulted or complimented. Why do I not have more then?"
"Because, Seth, Kronos' decision will always overrule mine."
"So he thinks I am weak," I stated.
"No. He is convinced you will side with us." Luke glanced at me. I stumbled and he caught my arm before I could fall. "Are you sure you don't want help?"
"Yes, Luke!" I growled and he held his hands up in surrender. "Am I that predictable?" Luke did not answer. "Where are we going?" I had realised I was following Luke and did not know where I was being led.
"Your friends are arriving. They have entered the Garden of the Hesperides and are avoiding Ladon as we speak."
"So, I am in Orthys."
"Yes."
"I have made my choice," I decided and stopped walking. Luke stopped beside me.
"And? Who do you choose?" He asked. "If you choose the gods you will be killed."
I breathed deeply. "I renounce the gods! What have they ever done for me? I will see them destroyed by my own hand. I will serve Kronos."
Luke grinned, his scar stretching. "Well come to the army, Seth." He extended his hand towards me. I shook his hand.
It was not for you, or the Titans. It was for the demigods everywhere. This is the best choice for them. I will see to it that they are treated like pawns no longer. I swear it on the River Styx.
Poll results:
Theron - 3
Aigeus - 3
If the poll is a draw by the end of the Titan's Curse I will name the Titan Aigeus Theron (shield hunter)
