Your presence still lingers
A/N: Yup, here we are with the epilogue, and more sadness. Also, I'm only doing this because I love you guys. Enjoy.
Shadow's POV
"Where's Shadow going?"
"The commander lets him off every December."
Taking in a deep breath, I looked down at the fistful of roses I held. Kneeling, I set them down, whispering, "Happy Anniversary, Sandy."
Running my hand over her name carved in stone, a bitter smile made its way across my lips. "I should've gone with you anyway. I was stupid, you know that?"
"Not really, it ain't yer fault anyway."
I flinched, hearing that southern accent, for a brief moment I wondered if I was just dreaming. Taking my eyes away from the headstone, I stared into those green eyes.
"I know I'm not crazy, but what the hell is up with my brain?" I asked quietly, still staring at my wife.
Stumbling up to a nearby tree as she sat down, I exhaled wondering if Maria would show up next. She laughed, retorting, "Nothin' sugar. I didn't think I'd get this reaction from you; Sonic or someone else maybe, but not you."
Blushing lightly, I glanced away from her and turned back, asking, "Does this mean I can actually touch you or will my hand just fade through like those cliché movies you used to watch?"
"Oh, ha ha, very funny. Take my hand."
Now sitting in front of her, I grabbed her hand, surprisingly feeling it warm underneath mine. Flesh against flesh, how come I never noticed how she warm she was before? Pulling her closer, I purred earning a laugh from her. I actually missed this; hell it seems like she isn't six feet underground. If only it were true.
Finally, letting go, she looked at me, a stern gaze piercing through. "Why didn't you get my clone?"
Scratching my ear, I figured she'd ask. "Well, it's not you and doing that is like replacing you to fill the void." I answered, clearing my throat afterwards.
Smiling, she replied, "That's so sweet; they're beautiful."
Gesturing towards the bundle of roses, I stated, "I got them from Amy, plus I know how much you enjoy the color yellow."
She nodded then hugged me, and sadly started to dissipate. Knowing I couldn't hold her forever, no matter how much I wanted to, I stepped back.
A/N: Ah, don't you guys just love me? Cause I love you guys. So, it's the end; I hope I've satisfied you all. Also, starting in two or three months if I have time, I will be posting another story about Sandy herself if I finish my other fics beforehand. Thanks for sticking by me, and I hope you'll continue to do so. Review please.
