Royalty - chapter 23
Seth ducked under the lunge of a hellhound and impaled its stomach as he tried to keep an eye on Percy who he was worried would get himself killed, despite being a proficient fighter there were a lot of monsters for him to fight and he had never been in a fight as big as this. Seth had been in the aftermath of World War Two, which not as fierce as the actual fight gave him enough experience to be able to easily fight the monsters.
He shot lightning out of Enhance, electrocuting one monster before the electricity went from monster to monster. He took one of his throwing knives and threw it at the forehead of an Empousa. Piles of monster dust marked where a creature had been killed. Seth laughed; he loved the feeling of fighting for your life, the pure, undiluted adrenaline coursing through his body gave him a boost of energy and he used more and more of his abilities as the fight continued. Seth eventually found Percy and fought to protect his back, working like a team that had fought together for years. Seth lit his blades on fire and stabbed the last monster, a dracaenae, in the stomach then sliced off her head. Percy was beside him, breathing heavily whilst Seth was almost unheard.
Antaeus eyed them warily as he advanced. "That was quicker than I expected."
"It's a gift." Seth shrugged.
"An annoying one at that," Antaeus scowled.
Percy moved in to attack but Antaeus tried to grab him, Percy dived out of the way and tried again whilst Seth watched in amusement. "Are you going to do that until he gets tired? If so, can I have some popcorn? We'll be here for years."
Percy shot him a glare. "If you'd help we won't be."
"I am helping," Seth gestured to the ground and Percy saw there were puddles forming slowly. Seth grinned and clenched his fist; the ground cracked around Antaeus and started lifting into the air. "Son of Gaia, the earth goddess," He said curiously and flipped around a throwing knife that appeared in his hand, he threw it with astonishing speed and it stuck out of Antaeus' forehead like a unicorn's horn. The half-giant grasped the knife and pulled it out. Sand fell from his head, cascading like a waterfall down his face. Percy gaped as the earth rose up like armour and healed him.
"Now you see why I never lose!" Antaeus boasted.
"You never lose because your mommy protects you. I'm surprised, what are you? Ten?" Seth taunted.
"Come up here and I'll show you!" Antaeus bellowed.
Seth rose on an air current up to Antaeus' height and grinned, "I expect better from you. Don't you want to do your mother proud by defeating me?"
Antaeus roared and tried to jump at Seth who dodged and caught his loincloth. "Gods, it stinks! When was the last time you got this changed?" He asked the flailing half-giant.
"Let me down so I can rip you apart!"
"Sorry, I don't like that offer," Seth frowned; Percy was caught by surprise when he rose from the ground. "Would you like to do the honours, Perseus?"
Percy grinned and stabbed Antaeus in the stomach, sand poured out until it seemed like his body was decaying.
"Mother was right. Kronos is playing a dangerous game with fate," Antaeus told Seth, "You were not meant to be made, and it has severely altered The Fates plans. Be careful with where you're life leads, Son of None. And remember, you always have a choice."
Seth was frozen in shock of what he had heard, every being in the arena was. Then something happened that shocked all the half-bloods; the monsters all bowed. Dracaenae, Hellhounds, Harpies, Empousa, Laistrygonians, Cyclops, and Hydras alike all bowed to Seth.
"What is happening?" Percy asked.
"I don't know." Seth replied.
Luke quickly came out of his shock and looked at Seth in awe and slight fear, he cleared his throat and all of the monsters' looked at him waiting for his order. "Kill them. But spare the girl and Seth – our Lord has need for them."
Every single monster drew a weapon or its claws and the Laistrygonian holding Annabeth wrapped its beefy arm around her and lifted her up. Seth immediately threw a knife at it and Annabeth fell to the ground on all fours before slowly standing up. He did the same to Kelli who yelped as a knife buried itself inches from her throat. She quickly slipped away from the chaos. Rachel stood close to Percy as the monsters approached. Percy suddenly had an idea and took a whistle made of Stygian Ice out of his pocket. He blew into it and it melted in his hand. There was silence as everyone stopped to find out what that was. Seth sighed and gave out his best Taxi cab whistle. The shadows formed the shape of a massive three-headed Rottweiler at the same time a wall exploded and debris rained down on everything. Seth raised a shield of condensed air as several monsters were squashed into the floor.
"What is that?" Rachel gasped.
"Cerberus!" Seth cried straining to hold up the barrier, "Attack!" The three-headed dog immediately pounced on several monsters, crushing them beneath him. Another hellhound joined him.
"Heel, Mrs. O'Leary!" Percy yelled and the hellhound crushed a few more monsters before loping over to him.
"This way," Rachel said as she took off towards an exit, "The far exit."
Ethan took his cue and followed her; Seth took up the rear and pulled on his hood, firing arrows at monsters who tried to reach them. Cerberus stayed to fight the army and delay them from following. As Seth plunged into the Labyrinth again he could hear the sounds of an entire army trying to chase them. He didn't know what had happened in that arena, but he did know that he had been played. Kronos knew what would happen and Seth had played straight into his hands, now he had to find out why there were monsters bowing to him.
