Normality - chapter 27

Seth and Nico were fine with staying in the shadows at Camp. Percy wanted to involve them as they helped save the Camp and he thought that they deserved the recognition. But they were fine without it. Seth decided he was going back to the Underworld for the rest of the year until summer again and said that Nico was old enough to make a decision on his own. They had been offered a place at the head table, and Hermes cabin but refused it. Campers made dozens of shrouds for the dead with Seth and Nico helping. The campers were more accepting of them now but they still felt out of place like they didn't belong there.

A few days after the battle Seth and Nico left for the Underworld and their life went back to what was normal for them. Well, except for hellhound following Seth around everywhere. When it wouldn't leave him alone he started calling it Maverick. Seth started training his new Hellhound to be an excellent fighter, pitting him against the other Hellhounds in the Underworld. Sometimes Maverick would help Cerberus, others he would join Seth on his missions. They were soon inseparable and where one was, the other was there not close behind. Seth had bought the blueprints he took from Daedalus' workshop and given them to the dead Hephaestus children. They had been thrilled and immediately set to work on it.

Nico had been seen running around the Underworld and Seth took as many vacations as he could, saying he was getting tired of all the fighting for his life and that he deserved a raise. When Seth wasn't sleeping or running errands for Hades he trained Maverick and himself. Maverick became a stealthy fighter that relied on speed and agility to win fights.

A few days after Camp ended Nico went missing. The Underworld started trying to search for him and after they couldn't find him for a few hours Hades told Seth. Seth told Maverick and they went to find Nico. Maverick tracked him to Percy's house. Seth left the Hellhound in the street thinking that Sally wouldn't like it very much if there was a Hellhound in the house.

He knocked on the door and waited for someone to open it. He knew it was late in the day so she might not be that happy to see him.

The door opened and Percy's mom stood in the doorway. "Yes? How can I help you?"

"Hey, Mrs. Jackson is Percy in? I'm a friend from Camp, my name is Seth."

"Why is there a Hellhound in the road?" Sally asked.

"Sorry, I hope you don't mind. He's my friend Maverick."

"Alright, come in." Sally said opening the door.

"Where is Percy?"

"He is upstairs in his room."

"Thank you, Mrs. Jackson."

"Please, Seth. Call me Sally."

Seth nodded and made his way upstairs, he could hear talking in a room and opened up the door. Percy and Nico stared at him.

"Seth?" Nico asked. "What are you doing here?"

Seth raised an eyebrow. "Why don't you ask every person in the Underworld who is running around on a wild goose chase to find you?"

"Oops." Nico muttered.

"Why are you here?" Seth asked.

"I was telling Percy about the only way he can be Kronos' equal." Nico replied.

"Ah… is this about the River Styx?"

"How do you…"

"Your conversations were quite loud."

Nico looked a bit upset with Seth.

"Would you like some cake?" Percy offered.

"No. I'm not staying long." Seth shook his head. "Nico, when you're done here please come back as soon as possible."

Nico nodded. "I will, don't worry."

Seth stepped into the shadows and disappeared from the room.

"Did you find him?" Hades asked as Seth shadow travelled into the throne room.

"He's at Perseus' house." Seth said as he walked to Elysium to tell the souls there that Nico was found.

The spirits of Ancient Greece were much more accepting than when Seth first arrived after being used to his presence. Maverick loped by Seth's side and many ghosts came to pet him, knowing that he was tamed. Orion, Theseus and Perseus were waiting for him by the edge of the forest. Seth smiled slightly and went over to them.

"Do you find Nico?" Theseus asked.

"He was eating cake at Percy's house all this time." Seth smiled.

"That sounds like Nico." Orion laughed, Seth nodded and walked into the forest with Maverick at his side. "Where are you going?" Orion asked.

"I need to go kill something." Seth muttered. He felt like he wanted to sleep but had lots of energy, like he was flooding with adrenaline. The three heroes quickly joined him.

"Shall we have a competition?" Perseus asked.

"How about, first to twenty-five wins?" Seth offered.

"You're on, Diávolos." Perseus smiled.

Seth's eyes narrowed. "I thought you said you would stop calling me that, to kefáli tou aéra?"

"When did I say that?"

"Maverick, Epíthesi̱." Seth grinned as Maverick advanced on Perseus who ran off into the forest. "Now heel!" Maverick sat behind Seth with his tongue hanging out of his mouth.

"Three." Orion said.

"Two." Theseus counted.

"One!" Seth laughed and dived into the forest with the heroes close behind him.

"You cheated!" Seth yelled at Perseus and he tried to stab him with a knife. Seth managed to kill twenty-three. Theseus got twenty, Orion got twenty-four and Perseus won with twenty-five.

"You started before us, unfair!" Theseus exclaimed.

"You're just sore losers." Perseus retorted as he danced out of the way of Seth's knife that he had thrown.

Seth growled and shadow-travelled to his room to get away from the three idiots, he collapsed as soon as his head hit the pillow.

Three women sat in three thrones in a place that resembled Olympus. One was a young teenager, another middle aged and the last one was elderly. They took in turns speaking.

"He will rise, with crooked one of blue eyes,

And recover a life hidden in lies.

But despair for a will taken away,

To hope for the courage to have a say.

A single choice shall end the heroes' days,

Not just Olympus to preserve or raze.

The lost son of the Titans' number one,

Shall help fate by betraying The Sky's son."
