Percy Exploded A Ship - chapter 29

After that heart-warming speech from Hades a few days ago, Seth decided to find as many souls as he could and send them back to the Underworld. A few days later he had completely cleared Los Angeles and New York of souls so he decided to find Nico who would probably be either around the River Styx or training with Theseus and his friends. He summoned Kolasi, deciding that the Pegasus should get some exercise. In less than three minutes he was in Elysium and on his way to the clearing where the ancient heroes fought each other. As Seth had guessed, Nico was relentlessly trying to get past Perseus' guard with the help of some warriors he had summoned. Seth smiled as he watched his brother through the branches. Perseus was just concentrating on defence and Nico on offence. Seth smiled as Nico feinted and Perseus saw right through it.

After nearly ten minutes had passed Seth revealed himself to the fighting duo. Nico paused mid-swing and spun to face his half-brother who looked at him with an unreadable expression.

"Never turn your back on your opponent." Seth said as Perseus slammed him shield into Nico and knocked him over. "And most of all never get distracted."

"That was your fault," Nico pouted.

"That may be so, but in a fight that could happen at any moment, Nico. You have to concentrate." Seth scolded.

"Is there anything you wanted except to see me knocked into the ground?" Nico asked as he picked himself off the floor.

"Yes, actually," Seth said as he crossed his arms. "The summer session at Camp Half-Blood is going to begin soon. I wanted to know if you were going this year, since the battle for Olympus will happen."

"It might not, Seth. Don't forget that Perseus could easily die before his birthday." Perseus said.

"He could," Seth nodded. "But knowing how long he has lived for so far, even with Kronos trying to get rid of him I think that is highly unlikely."

"I need to do something first before I join you." Nico said as he sheathed his sword. "Percy has to bathe in the Styx."

"Be careful, Nico. You know how Hades gets in the presence of other demigods." Seth said worriedly.

"I know, don't worry."

"Good. I'll see you at Camp when you are done." Seth walked into the forest and mounted Kolasi who had been waiting impatiently. He smiled as Kolasi galloped into a tree and felt the familiar feeling of shadow-travelling.

Most of the campers were training in the arena as Seth rode into the valley. He knew Charles Beckendorf was on his way to find Percy so they could blow up Kronos' ship so most of the campers were nervous. All of them knew that Kronos would attack Olympus this year. Seth dismounted Kolasi as he reached the Hermes cabin and the Pegasus ran into a shadow. He took his cloak off and put in on the floor in a space. Seth sighed and sat on the edge of a bed, his life was about to take a turn. Kronos would get him to reveal who his loyalty was to in the battle and all the demigods would hate him for helping the enemy. He quickly shook it off and walked outside. He could see Silena giving Pegasus lessons and smiled slightly. In the arena three or four cabins were practising against each other and within their cabin. Them a flying chariot flew above his head nearly hitting him, Apollo archers shot rubber arrows out the back. The chariot flew into a spot of turbulence and an archer fell out. Seth laughed and made his way towards the Hermes cabin still chuckling.

"Hey, Travis, Connor," Seth nodded. "How are you doing?"

"Seth!" the two siblings chorused. Last year they had struck up a friendship with Seth after the Battle of the Labyrinth.

"What had happened this year?" Seth asked. "The Underworld hasn't really been keeping me posted."

"Kronos is on a cruise ship and Beck along with Percy are on a quest to blow it up." Travis said.

"Travis and Katie are getting closer together." Connor grinned.

"I'm assuming he still likes the strawberry fields then?" Seth smiled.

"He goes there at least once a day." Connor nodded.

"Shut up." Travis muttered as his face turned red.

"You said Percy and Beck are trying to blow Kronos' ship up?" Seth asked taking pity on Travis. "That's suicide!" He scoffed.

"If anyone can do it, Percy and Beck can." Connor disagreed.

"That's for sure." Seth said.

"Are you three going to keep gossiping like the Aphrodite cabin or train?" Annabeth called over. Seth smiled and went over to her.

"How are you doing, Annabeth?"

"Worried but alright, when did you get here, Seth?" She replied.

"About an hour ago, I heard Percy is blowing up Kronos' ship."

"Only if their plan works," Annabeth muttered.

"If an Athena kid made it, I'm sure it will."

"Thanks." Annabeth said.

"No worries. Now, about that training…" Seth trailed off and summoned his swords. "You ready to lose?"

"You wish, Dead Brain."

"You really like insulting people's brains, don't you?" Seth asked in mock hurt.

"Isn't it obvious?"

Seth narrowed his eyes and attacked. Annabeth blocked the attack and slid her dagger down to the hilt of his sword with a flick of her wrist. They fought for almost ten minutes when a horn sounded at the beach. Everyone took off at a run and Seth ran into the wall of the arena to shadow-travel and appear out of Connor's shadow. Percy and Connor jumped as Seth grinned.

"So, how did it go?" He looked around. "Oh… where's Beck?"

"Hades," Percy muttered.

"By the gods, when Silena finds out." Seth felt pissed. Silena had told him and he had told Kronos about the Half-Bloods' plan. The three stopped at the dining pavilion to wait for the campers. Chiron galloped in first with Annabeth close behind him.

"Percy! Thank the gods, but where is Beckendorf?"

"What happened? Luke-" Annabeth grabbed Percy's arm.

"The ship blew up. He wasn't destroyed. All the monsters were."

"Where's Charlie?" Someone Seth recognised as Silena demanded. Percy glanced at Chiron.

"Silena, let's talk about this down at the Big House."

"No. No. No!" Silena cried then fixed her eyes on Seth. "This is all your fault!"

Seth's eyes widened and he scrambled backwards falling off a bench he was sat on. "What are you talking about? How is it my fault?"

"If you hadn't told him Charlie would still be alive!"

"You told me, though." Seth retorted. "It's your fault even more than mine!" He looked Silena in the eye unwaveringly.

"What are you two talking about?" Chiron asked.

"Nothing, Silena just wants to blame someone." Seth said still keeping his eyes on Silena.

"He's right." She muttered.

Clarisse came forward and put her arm around Silena. "Come on, girl," she said gently. "Let's talk about this at the Big House. I'll make you some hot chocolate."

Everyone wandered off except Chiron, Percy and Annabeth. Seth disappeared into a shadow, reappearing in his room and grabbed all of his weapons he switched his old gauntlets for the newer ones the dead Hephaestus kids had made. They were the design he had taken from Daedalus' workshop last year. They were designed for flexibility and were mostly gold with black swirls compared to the rest of his armour which was black with gold swirls. Children of Hecate had put charms on them to increase the wearer's strength and skill. If he jerked his wrist clockwise spikes shot out of the knuckles to provide a painful punch, anti-clockwise made a hatch pop up under the wrist and a Stygian Iron blade would shoot out for Seth to either grasp and use as a dagger or throwing knife, or he could stab an unsuspecting being. Is new gauntlets combined with his knack for being a hunter made Seth a deadly enemy. Three of the few downsides to the gauntlets were that the Hecate kids' couldn't charm the blades to return to them so Seth had to carry around a lot of spares, and he could easily accidently twist his wrist to release the spikes or blades. The gauntlets were also as annoying as Apollo to get on, they had about a dozen straps and slotted into a slit in Seth's original body armour that the Hephaestus kids' had made. Seth sighed and looked around the room, he had a feeling that it was the last time he would ever see it.
