Ch 8-If Only They Knew

Pansy tapped her foot impatiently. She had been sitting at the tea shop for an hour. Apparently Argentinean smugglers were not big on punctuality.

She looked down at her empty cup and debated ordering a fresh one. She looked out on the busy muggle street and decided that yes, she would need a hot cup to get through this meeting.

She walked up to the barista ordered a hot Earl Grey and noticed a magazine on the counter with none other than Samantha Black's ugly face on it. She took the tea and the magazine without so much as a glance to the barista and went back to her table to read the article.

Honestly, how Draco ever got involved with the whore was beyond Pansy's comprehension. Though she imagined it had something to do with Abraxious inability to predict the type of woman the youngest Black would be.

He should have just looked at her father and known she would be just as much of a disappointment.

Pansy had been extremely distraught by the idea of her precious Draco with that harlot, in fact she would burn anything that reminded her of the relationship. It would kill her to read about it in Witch Weekly or any of the other publications that featured long in-depth studies of the relationship.

Now, upon knowing that the whole thing was a sham, Pansy got a sick sense of satisfaction reading about the perfect couple.

If only they knew…

If only Ginny knew what she was in for.

Sam thought as she sat with Blaise in the den going over his "date of the century" plans.

"This is perfect." Sam said standing up and walking over to the liquor cabinet.

"You're sure? It's not too understated, but I also don't want her to think I'm showing off and you know how she is when it comes to me so I want to make sure I don't over do it, but at the same time I want to blow her mind."

"Zabini, take a chill pill. Honestly, whoever called you smooth clearly is not spending enough time with you. You did well, everything will be perfect, have a celebratory drink with me." Sam took the two glasses she just filled and passed one to Blaise.

"Okay, don't ever let Draco know about this."

"Know about what?" speak of the devil and he shall appear. Draco at that moment walked through the door way looking exhausted.

That of course didn't stop Sam from making a smart-ass remark. "Oh nothing sweetie. Just our plans to run away together."

"Oh is that all." He slumped in one of the leather chairs rubbing his face of exhaustion.

"Samantha please tell me there is a drink for me."

"I can make that happen." She crossed to the bar to make Draco a drink while Blaise took in his friends rugged appearance.

"You alright there mate?"

"Let's just say it has been a rough week. First one of our cauldron shipments got held up in customs and it turns out that several of them were defected. Now I have to go in front of a review board at the ministry to explain the snafu pending an investigation. Then there is Peakes who is being a bloody prat on the Comet negotiations, he wants to retain holdings of the brand, and the production essentially just leaving us to foot the bill for the location and distribution…"

Draco paused to take a long sip from his glass Blaise opened his mouth to offer comfort but Draco beat him to it continuing on his tirade.

"And then I am going into a lunch meeting today and run into none other than Pansy Parkinson who insists on telling me all about her life right now and sorry she is to hear about my relationship issues and I have no idea what she was talking about but the bloody woman would not shut up."

Blaise watched as Sam rubbed Draco's shoulders as he talked and how his best mate melted into her touch.

Sam had a sympathetic smile on her face towards the end of Draco's tantrum and waited a beat before speaking up.

"Well first off, can we take a moment to reflect on the fact that Pansy Parkinson is a complete cow. Honestly, I really hate her and her pug-like face and if you ever want me to beat her up I totally would."

Draco laughed at that as well as Blaise who nodded his head in agreement.

"I would sell tickets for that." He added raising his glass to Sam. "We could take bets on how long before Sam knocked her out."

"I give her two minutes, five tops." Draco said taking another sip from the glass and looking more relaxed with a smile on his face.

"Damn straight. Now second, this Peakes guy seems like a douche, you have to talked to Ellerby, he likes and respects you. If Peakes is giving you a hard time, remove him from the equation. You're Draco Malfoy for godric's sake you don't need to put up with that."

Draco nodded thoughtfully, "that's not a bad idea. We may be taking a trip to France in the coming weeks. Assuming I don't get arrested on some trumped up charge regarding these cauldrons."

"Like you're brilliant lawyer would let that happen." Blaise said abashed, "We'll cooperate fully with the investigation and when the hearing comes I'll be there to help. Obviously there was some type of mistake."

"Precisely. This is you Drake, you'll have it all worked out in no time."

Blaise stayed for dinner that night enjoying the company of his friends. Draco had always been family to him but in the last few month Samantha had quickly found a place in Blaise's guarded heart. He could honetly say that the couple before him were the two most important people in his world and he smiled watching how they had grown both as individuals and as a couple.

Ginny may find them to be dysfunctional, but Blaise saw passed the bickering and sexual innuendo to the rare moments like this afternoon. Just the smile that was brought to Draco's face when Sam showed encouragement, or the way she leaned on his shoulder after desert like it was the most natural thing in the world.

They weren't perfect, but they were real. Marriage contract or not Sam and Draco completed each other and Blaise looked forward to the day when that realization hit them.

If only they knew what they're in for.
