Eric's POV
The world seemed to explode as Eric ran into the jungle, Beside him fires were raging and explosions kept on coming down from the sky.
'WHY ARE THEY BOMBING THE PLACE?' Eric thought as he ran over the root infested grounds 'DON'T THEY KNOW I'M HERE?'
In front of Eric a tree fall, blocking his path, Looking around for a alternative route Eric was just about to begin his sprint again when a fiery feeling Burnt his back. Screaming out in pain he leaped away from the exploding bomb and a numbness filled his body. Then, piercing pains came through his left arm, and he looked over to see a T-rex holding his arm it it's jaw, Then with a snap his arm was obliterated.
The jungle slowly faded around him as Eric lay still, his body going numb from blood loss and pain. Then above him loomed the jaws of a massive beast. Reaching down to finish him.
Eric awoke with a start, nearly screaming, Sitting in the tree next to him was a small bird like creature with glowing eyes, in it's mouth sat a small silver canister, it apparently was trying to crack the canister open.
"Wait a second, is that?" Eric lunged for the bird, finding himself restrained by the ropes and it leaped off the tree, fleeing into the night with his 2 million dollar DNA samples. "There goes my pay check…"
Surprisingly Eric wasn't concerned about the DNA anymore, his life became survival the moment the rex attacked. Never in his career and Eric been through this madness, Nor did he think he ever wanted to hunt again.
"That settles it then! if i live through this i'm retiring." Eric confirmed what he had been thinking about for days now. Now all he needed was a way off the island.
His mind was drawn back to his dad, Back when he was twelve his dad was a construction manager for a large corporation. And he always told Eric "If a situation seems to be out for you, Turn it to your advantage" Shortly after his dad died in a car accident, and his mom began to lock herself in her room for days at a time, trying to forget her greif.
A call below him drew Eric's attention towards the ground, and he looked down to see a young raptor staring up at him, With purple eyes, and Eric swore he recognized it. Quickly he untied the ropes and packed his bag. Shoving the sleeping roll in last.
"I'm definitely losing my mind." Eric said as he climbed down the the ground made Eric weary of his predicament "I don't have any food for you!" He said half annoyed "What do you want?"
The raptor with purple eyes made a few chirps and calls. "Look! i don't understand you, so…um bye." Eric shoulders his bag and began walking no where in particular. But the raptor was determined to tell him something, it rushed in front of him and made more chirps and cry's before motioning it's tail in the direction of a abandoned house.
Eric stayed away from most of Ingens buildings mainly because they reeked of death, But it was obvious this thing wanted him to go into one. "If i die in there, my ghost while haunt you Forever." Eric glared at the raptor. Which seemed to shrink down at his stare. But he began trekking towards the building.
Inside the complex was rows upon rows of strange tubes, that came out of the floor, the tubes stretched all the way to the ceiling before ending, Most of the tubes where broken, but a few had some green liquid in them, that almost seemed to glow. the raptor Hopped over a broken desk and continued to trek into the building, seemingly unfazed by the dead body's that sat in chairs or piled in front of doors.
One door caught Eric's attention as he saw a glowing pair of eyes peer from the window, before disappearing into pitch darkness. 'Thats comforting' Eric said to himself.
The raptor lead him into the next room, and Eric was blow away instantly. The ceiling was as tall as a few trees he had slept in, and the floor was covered in a red and blue material, probably a carpet. There was a giant cylinder in the middle of the room, that seemed to go as high as the ceiling, and it bubbled at the base, with a number of various computers and other science equipment. Eric could help but whistle at the sheer size of the room, He wandered up to the nearest computer and found that it was still on. Confused Eric wiggled the mouse, and the computer screen blurred to life, bringing up terminals and websites.
"You'd think this wouldn't work for life in the jungle" Eric said, his voice echoing throughout the room. The raptor plopped up beside him and sniffed his hand, then grabbed the cuff of his shirt lightly and began pulling him around the cylinder. Eric obeyed, feeling that if the raptor decided to hurt him he could easily defend himself.
Eric was brought around to a big red button that lay on the control panel, it's labile had long since worn. This however didn't stop the raptor for butting it with the bottom of it's snout.
"You know! In all the movies the red button is the one you should touch last." Eric said, pulling his hand back as the cylinder began to shudder, then without warning the layer of steel covering cylinder began to move. it slowly sank into the ground, as Eric tracked the progress of the panels with his eyes he noticed a figure laying in the center of the once covered cylinder. Well, it was more of a circle jutting out of the control panel now But that's beside the point
Eric's mind raced at a thousand miles per hour. As he thought of all the possibilities that could be going on at this very instant. The raptor then appeared in front of him again, who apparently had run off to retrieve a book
"Uhh? thanks" Eric grabbed the book out of it's mouth and leafed through the first few pages. Which turned out to be a journal.
:July. 9th, 1992:
Eric began reading the page out loud.
"We've been working around the clock to find a cure for troodon poison. During our work he have discovered something amazing, Troodon's Poison doesn't harm the body like most modern toxins. They instead force the victim to hallucinate at a extreme rate. Often times when a victim is injected it sees double everything, and if enough poison is ejected the subject tends to thrash about violently. While it is known troodon's don't carry poison in the fossil record, due to frog DNA they're size, and abilities have been mutated. Resulting in a high sophisticated brain capacity." Eric stopped to catch his breath, hardly believing a word he just read. He looked down to the raptor, who was nodding for him to keep reading
:July. 10th, 1992:
"Further into the research of Troodon poison, we have found that this poison has no Antibiotics know to grow on the island, making these creatures one of the deadliest in our collection, For that very reason we have keep the entire population on Isla Sorna. As to not risk an encounter with guests on Isla Numbla. but this isn't the only thing interesting we uncovered today. Along with a makeshift cure we have managed to isolate the Toxins they inject and separate them from the rest of the serum. After we strongly believe this sample is key to understanding how the Mutation in these creatures started in the first place, However in order to get our result we must inject the serum into a human test subject first."
Eric had a hard time putting the journal down, Questions raided his mind as he looked up from to the door, As he was reading glowing eyes had appeared at the door, and he could have sword they blinked. This made the raptor uneasy to, so Eric decided it was time to leave. And he would have succeeded in that, if he hadn't noticed the sign that said "Armory" on the nearest door.
"This is gunna suck.." Eric held his breath and pushed the door open.
;Ash's POV;
Ash had spent the entire day sitting in the alphas den, trying to live up to her promise of a counter strike. In all honesty she felt it was best to give up the territory that scars took back when he was alpha, However that was showing weakness, and she knew her pack would hate her for such a act. So she had to figure out the best way to attack the Deinonychus with as little bloodshed as possible. To say the least it would be a task.
Stream came in, bowing his head respectfully then lay down in front of her.
"You know, you don't have to make all the decisions right" He asked as she looked up, noticing him for the first time.
"Thats easy for you to say! You're not a alpha" She replied, flicking her powerful tail in frustration "I made a promise to the pack, and i intend on keeping it. Only problem is, how do i do that with when the deinonychus can't seem to be located!" Ash shook her head and stood up Circling the room as if trying to force her brain to start working.
"If i may suggest something, How about we wait for them to make a move?" Stream said. He looked at her, and she could almost see his brain working out a elaborate battle plan in his mind.
"What do you mean?" She replied, holding his eyes with a look of suspicion and frustration. Not many raptors had tried to help her with this task before.
"Well, if the deinonychus thing they won, let them walk proudly into our camp, and then we'll take their leader by surprise and force them into submission." Stream replied in a Matter-of-Factly tone, then yawned as if this entire thing was beneath him. Ash couldn't say she didn't admire his courage, And over the last days she was really becoming attacked to the raptor that killed her father.
"I guess that could work," she said thinking the plan over in her mind, Then it clicked. "Wait! thats a perfect, why didn't i think of this?" Ash felt like jumping onto of Stream and cuddling him to death, but that would be very un-Alpha like. Though it wasn't uncommon for alphas to have mates. But Ash felt it was her duty to her pack, before herself.
"Well of course it's perfect," Stream said, slightly yawning. "You've been thinking about the cons of every plan too much that you can't see any of them working." Stream got up and began walking out of the den. But paused and turned around "Oh yea, it's almost time to name the new Beta." Then with that he was gone.
"Great! You solve one problem and drop another one on top of me, Thanks for the help steam" She said under her breathe, And a quiet giggle escaped the rocks behind her.
Ash sighed, knowing exactly who it was. (As they have sneaked into the den once before) and simply said "Come out you three".
three little Utahraptor heads popped out of the rocks behind her and they began jumping around her feet.
"How'd you know it was us!" Pip said, his eyes as bright as always
"Because you giggled!" Mare said, glaring at tineye. Tineye acted very surprised and looked over at pip, who was nodding in agreement.
"Well it's not my fault she likes stream!" tineye replayed, this time earning a glare from ash.
"and how would you know if i like stream?" Ash said, half glaring half smiling at little tineye, as he tried to make himself as small as possible.
"W-well, Everyone i-in the pack s-says that you do!" Tineye said, as he tried to melt into the dirt he was standing on.
This made ash sigh, leave it to these thee to crush ones hopes' Ash thought to herself. She had already knew that to earn the respect of the pack she had to pick a warrior for the beta position. But which warrior to choose, the ones that were her first choice are dead. while he second choices shot down her offer. Which left 3 raptors to take the position. Stream (A recent warrior) Merg (A strong female who was in more than one battle with ash) or Silence. (They mostly used him for recon, because as his name suggests, he is very quiet)
"So are you going to make stream beta?" Asked mare, her purple eyes seemed to shine like stars
"I can't," Ash replied. The unfortunate truth rolled off Ash's tongue"That would show weakness, and a Alpha has to be the strongest member of a pack" Mare looked at her with sympathy glowing in her eyes but didn't press her more.
Then footsteps sounded outside and ash turned around to see Silence arrive at the den. He darted his eyes down to Mare pip and tineye, then told her everything she needed to know, just by making a movement with his head
"you three stay here with silence!" Ash commanded the young raptors and darted out of her den, to find a group of deinonychus standing in the middle of the nesting area. They each had a smug look across the snouts, and ash noted all her warriors were no where to be seen. 'Stream must have taken them out of the grounds to tell them the plane' Her mind raced with a thousand different ways this could end, and she didn't like any of the outcomes.
Silence was then beside her, how he crept through the grounds she had no idea, but he whispered to her "Stream is ready when you are, just give him a signal"
Ash nodded and confronted the deinonychus. Who glared at her in fury. She examined each individually, and they all seemed to look the same, besides minor diffracts in eye color.
"I will speak with your alpha now, Alone." ash said, she glared at the nearest raptor. They were surrounding a old looking raptor with a old scar across his flank, and somehow he reminded Ash of streak.
"No! wherever he goes, We go!" One of the older ones spoke up, but only to be silenced by the one in the middle
"It's alright Mortus. Must i remind you that you are to treat every alpha with respect, no matter which species they come from?" Mortus looked at Ash with a burning hatred, but then nodded and the raptors parted to let their alpha through.
"I, Kilo. Leader of the deinonychus pack here by request to speak with the alpha of this pack." Kilo said in a old but fancy tone, he has obviously been a leader for a long time. Ash nodded and motioned for him to follow her into her den, giving the group of deinonychus a hard look.
Then she noticed the one in the back, he was skinny and not very well built, he seemed to have just turned 17 and joined the group for his first mission, The young raptor shivered in the chilly breeze of there nesting grounds and it all made sense now. They where starving, while her pack had more food than they could possibly need.
Ash gave silence a hard stare, telling him to call of the attack, to which he nodded then ash lead the way to her den.
Upon entering it, ash gestured for kilo to lay down, after laying in her usual position
"As you probably saw, we are starving" Kilo started, he began to tell her there side of the story about scars and the war that happened more than 30 years ago. After this war the deinonychus suffered a great loss in chicks, and females. Many died of starvation while others simply didn't have the will to get up. And so a hatred had sparked for the utahraptors, as they easily hunted in the land that was once theirs.
"Let me stop you there." Ash said, she was sure she'd start crying if he told her more. But to stay resound she chose her next words with dignity "Our pack has changed. My father the Alpha before me and Delta didn't like how this pack was run. But he kept to himself for talk of rebellion was strictly forbidden, Until the day he and a few of his dearest friends seized power by killing the Alpha who was currently in power. After that the pack began to reform with a new system. And if one raptor didn't like the way a pack was run. They could challenge the Alpha in a duel. Who ever wins becomes the new alpha. while the other either retains their rank or is killed in the duel."
"So in short, i Ash hereby declare the once owned land by utahraptors neutral hunting grounds, for all those who need food." Kilo looked surprised at her declaration. and ash knowing she had signed a death warrant for her own pack stood up and bowed her head to the aged raptor.
"Never, in my life have i been treated as a equal to a utahraptor, Your kindness will save my pack. Thank you" he dipped his head and left her den shortly followed by her. And then they began to trek home. Stream and a few other warriors come up beside her.
"What happened in there? why didn't you go with the plan?" Stream hissed in her ear. Ash she watched the alpha relay the news to his pack.
"I've saved us both stream." She replayed in a calm manner. Ash spun on her around and stalked back to her den, not wanting to deal with the flak she was about to get.
;Eric's POV;
The door budged easily, and lights began to flicker in the room, on the shelves where rows of weapons, Most of them guns. He proceeded to the first row and pulled a 22 Cal. from the shelf, looking down the aisle Eric found and pocketed a new colt. Then swinging the 22 across his arm via strap he stuffed his pockets and bag with ammo, and moved on to examine the few 'Heavy Equipment' to find the section already raided.
After poking around some more Eric decided it was time to leave, he turned and began walking towards the door, And thats when the worst happened. Standing in the doorway was a raptor like creature, it's claws were black as obsidian and it's scales where a dark grey color. But what made it stand out, was the bubble shaped eyes that glowed in the fading lights.
Assuming the worse Eric pulled out his colt and squeezed the trigger, Yet somehow the raptor dodged and it was closing fast, Eric took aim again and fired. This time scoring the raptor in the leg, making it fall over. Eric ran with as fast as he could of of the room, slamming the door behind him, then he made his way over to the figure sitting in the cylinder. The figure was in a simple T-Shirt and jeans, with a black leather jacket that was slightly too big.
Eric assumed it was a teenager by the size, and the hair flowing down past her shoulders definitely was a hint towards her gender. However Eric found it hard to focus on one thing as more and more eyes glowing in the darkness just out of reach. He holstered his gun and lifted the girl off the ground, slinging her over his shoulder and making for the door as fast he could. The small raptor with purple eyes in close pursuit.
Behind him Eric heard scrambling and chirping. Almost as if someone set off an alarm in a building and everyone wanted to get out. As the tubes and body's glided past Eric he saw the sunlight shining out the hollow door. Just a few more steps before he was home free. The raptor bolted out the door, followed quickly by Eric as he lay the girl on the ground and small the door tight, locking it in place with a sturdy stick he found nearby.
Sigh Eric looked down at the raptor and the girl and decided that maybe he wouldn't leave just yet.
AN: Whooo boy! this one took a while. Hope you enjoy the chapter, but as i said. trying to build onto Eric as he is nearly insane. I guess living upon a island with a bunch of dinosaurs does that to you. Anyway! More to come soon so stay tuned! Chow.
