Erin walked up the stairs to intelligence and rounded the corner to enter the bullpen. As she did so the police commissioner walked right past her.
"Hey, what's the commissioner doing here?" Erin asked Antonio.
"He's here-" Jay started.
Erin's head snapped around, "was I talking to you?" She snapped.
"No but-" Jay said.
"Okay then," Erin said, turning back to Antonio.
"Come on Erin.. you can't stay mad at me forever." Jay said.
"You wanna bet?" Erin said, starring him down. "If anything happens to that girl its on you."
Jay fell silent. Again Erin turned back to Antonio.
"He was here to tell us to stay out of Riley's case, to leave it to DCFS, and focus on our own cases." Antonio finished.
Erin shook her head, and marched toward Voight's office. He was sitting at his desk, Alevin was standing across from him.
"I know what the commissioner said, but we can't just give up. Riley needs us, and if DCFS sends her back...Voight, you know as well as I do, that son of a bitch could kill her." Erin said, coming in and closing the door.
"Who said anything about giving up?" Voight commented.
Relief flooded Erin's body.
"Al here was just about to take a ride to Riley's hometown to do a little digging and recon." Voight said.
Alevin gave Erin a wink. Erin Smiled, grateful.
"How's our girl doing? She holding up ok?" Voight asked.
"She's ok, safe. She's scared though.." Erin said.
Voight nodded in response. He picked up a case file and handed it to her. "We just caught a fresh case this morning, why don't you and Antonio check it out."
Erin took the file and nodded.
"Hey Kelly" Erin said into her phone.
"Hey how are you?" Kelly's voice answered.
"Oh can't complain, just about ready to clock in."
"Any news on the Riley front?" Severide asked.
"No" Erin replied.
"Well, no news is good news?" Severide said.
"So they say, personally I'd rather have news." Erin said, adjusting her phone as she sat down at her desk, ready to get to work.
"Well I just wanted to check in, and also ask you to lunch? Riley left her guitar here and I was thinking maybe we could swing by and give it to her after?" Kelly said.
"I'll see you at 12:15." Erin said into the phone.
"Great." Kelly said.
A couple hours later Erin was starving and more than ready to meet Kelly. She was also looking forward to seeing Riley. Erin grabbed her car keys and coat and headed out of the bullpen.
"Erin hold up a second!" Voight called out to her as she was just about to descend down the stair case.
Erin turned to face him.
His mouth turned a bit and his face softened just a bit. He gestured for her to come to him.
Erin felt cold all of a sudden as she walked into Voight's office.
"Hank..?" Erin said, closing the office door.
She looked into his eyes and she saw it even before he said anything.
"I just got off the phone with my contact from social work... Their taking Riley back to her father." Voight said gently.
"When?" Erin said, struggling to stay strong.
"They left about ten minutes ago." Voight said.
Erin nodded, trying to hide the tears forming in her eyes.
"Hey.. come here." Voight said, stepping forward and pulling her into his arms and holding her real strong. "This isn't over.. I promise."
