Draco Malfoy had grown a lot since his Hogwarts days. He learned from his schooling and through life experiences the fundamental skills associated with being a Slytherin. He was cunning and resourceful, but he was also ambitious. Though time had taught him to be meticulous in his business decisions, Draco had the capacity to set his mind on what he wanted and taking it there.
If questioned on his impulsiveness, he would argue that he was a 'man of action' and Draco Malfoy always got what he wanted. If he had been a less confident, less hard headed, a smarter man; he would have stopped to consider the ramifications of his actions.
If Blaise Zabini was a more aware man, a better man, a 'looking-out-for-your-friends' kind of guy; he would have warned Draco of the consequences of his actions.
And finally, if Samantha had been a typical pure-blood arranged bride, a Pansy Parkinson or Daphne Greengrass type that thought getting a house bought for her was sweet and romantic; Draco Malfoy may not have been completely screwed.
"Sami, I get a room right near yours with a big window and a playroom and huge backyard that could totally fit a Quidditch pitch and tree fort and there's a fence so we could get a puppy!"
"You're going to love it Samantha I can guarantee that it is perfect." Draco told her.
"I would say that it is completely fabulous!" Blaise added in as an inside joke to Draco more than anything else.
Samantha just stood there dumbstruck for a moment.
"Well, say something." Draco said not reading the metaphoric sign flashing in neon letters above her head warning him to 'RUN AWAY'
"You bought a house?" Samantha questioned in a slow eerily calm voice.
Teddy was the first to hear the warning bells. He scurried out of the room as Samantha asked again, "I just want to clarify. You said you bought a house, correct?"
"You bought OUR house, you know the one that we were gonna buy TOGETHER without me?" Her voice rose to the brink of danger level, the impending explosion imminent
"Well really we bought mine and Draco's gay paradise." Blaise tried to lighten the mood, "See the woman who was selling us the house thought that I was Mr.-Mrs.-Malfoy and it really was quite funny…"
"You're the one who wanted to buy a new house." Draco said frustrated by Samantha's reaction and completely ignoring Blaise.
"Yes, but I thought I would be there when the house was bought! How could you just go off and buy a house without me even seeing it? Don't you get the whole point was we were suppose to do this together!"
"You didn't want to look at anymore houses, you hate looking at houses and if you wanted to do it together why did you leave. We said we were going to spend the day together, the plan was to look at the house together, you didn't stick to the plan…"
"Plan's can change."
"Clearly, You know I try to do something nice and all you do is yell at me for it."
"Something nice? What if I don't even like the place, I have to see it. There are so many things that go into what I want out of a house and you don't even know what I was looking for."
"I know what you like. Do you think I don't know you at all?"
"Obviously, otherwise you wouldn't have bought the house without me."
"I'm going to jump in here and make a crazy suggestion." Blaise stepped between the two. At this point he thought he figured out what the fight was actually about, and if it continued Draco was going to have an engagement ring burning a whole in his pocket for a very long time.
"Why don't you take her to see the house Draco. Then you guys can determine what you want to do next before this escalates any further. I'll watch Teddy." He finished turning to Samantha.
"Go on, at least wait to see it before you judge his taste."
Samantha hesitated for a beat before she looked back at Draco, "Fine." She headed out the door not looking back at either of them.
Blaise gave Draco a sympathetic look, before Draco begrugenly followed Sam out the door.
He grabbed her arm once they were outside the property limits and apparated them to the house.
Without a word Sam set to exploring the property started with the downstairs going through the kitchen and entertainment areas silently not giving away any of her opinions.
Draco for his part followed quietly. He thought about saying something several times but in all honesty he was a little peeved about the whole thing. This house and where he saw his future, he was imagining raising children here for godric's sake and then Samantha Black of all the women in all the world found a way to turn this euphoric moment of self discovery into him being a selfish asshole.
What the bloody hell does she want from me? Was all he could ask himself as he followed her up the stairs. She went through every room and office ending in the master bedroom.
She stood there, arms crossed, looking out the window over the backyard. She said nothing. Samantha was not known as a woman of few words, in fact Draco was certain that the only time the witch stopped talking was in sleep and even then he would wake up to her muttering through dreamland.
"Well?" He finally asked leaning in the door way.
She turned looking at him for a second. "I want the downstairs study, and I want to turn one of those smaller rooms downstairs into a home-theatre."
"Alright." Draco said moving fully into the room.
"Obviously we will have to wait to put in the Quidditch pitch and we'll need to set up a space for Libby."
Draco was grinning ear-to-ear now. He had won, finally, she had to admit that he did well.
"We'll have to start moving our stuff in, I'd like to start with the stuff from my Flat considering those already boxed up and then we can figure out what furniture we are going to take from your place and…"
Draco cut her off mid babble with a kiss. "It's perfect." she admitted finally after breaking away.
"There's no creepy statues in the yard." Draco acknowledges not letting go of her quite yet.
She nodded, "and this room is on the west side."
"Two studies so your stuff is not all over my desk."
"I'll fit all my shoes in the closet."
"Doesn't mean you'll actually put them all away there. I'm fully prepared to continue tripping over your shoes."
"As long as you can live with my faults I think we'll be just fine." Sam said with a grin, "but I will not have green and silver be the color scheme."
"We can debate that issue another time." Draco leaned down again to capture her in a breathtaking kiss. She hugged snuggling into his chest, looking out on the yard and setting sun.
"We'll have to build that tree fort you know."
Draco grunted, "We're buying a puppy too."
Sam laughed signing in contentment, this place really was perfect, she couldn't be mad at him. Despite his actions seeming selfish and patriarchic his intensions were good. His heart was in the right place.
Draco Malfoy had a heart, and she was beginning to think that it may belong to her.
