"Hank I have to go.. get here as soon as you can." Erin's voice wavered as she hung up the phone.
The doctors and nurses were wheeling Riley's gurney out of the trauma room. The sound of monitors going off and voices shouting filled the hall as they pushed the gurney into the elevator.
"Whats happening?" Erin asked desperately, following them.
"She hemorrhaging internally in multiple locations. We're taking her up to OR." One of the doctors said as the elevators doors began to close. She sounded out of breath.
The elevators doors closed and Erin stood there for a moment, frozen, before collecting herself and taking a seat in the lobby. As she took her seat, she breathed out, not realizing she had been holding her breath.
Hank Voight with Antonio at his hip entered the hospital.
"Hank" Erin called out as soon as she saw him. "Over here.. hey Antonio."
Antonio nodded and Erin went into explaining the last few surreal hours. Just as Erin had finished she saw a man over Voight's shoulder entering the hospital and coming their way. With in moments Erin recognized him..
"You!" Erin shouted.
"Where's my daughter?" Riley's father said.
"You did this! He did this!" Erin went off.
Voight grabbed her shoulder and pulled her back. "Not here.." He said, in a hushed yet still gravelly voice.
"She's in surgery. You're not getting near her." Voight said, standing in his way. Antonio and Erin joined him at his side.
"Surgery?! Oh my God.. What happened? I came home my place was a mess..The door was wide open. There must have been a break in!" He began, but Erin cut him off.
"You expect us to believe that line of bullshit? She told me what you did to her..." Erin hissed.
"Look officer? Chief Albright started.
"Detective. Detective Erin Lindsay." Lindsay spat.
"Detective.. my bad. My daughter has been know to make things up. If they was any truth to what ever it is you claim to know about my family justice would have been served. I know. I'm a cop just like you." Mr. Albright said, a barely detectable certain tone in his voice.
"I'm a different breed of cop from you." Erin said coldly.
"Whatever! It doesn't matter." The man said. "Get out of my way, I want to see my daughter."
Voight took a step forward, putting his hand to the man chest, stopping him in his tracks.
"You're not going anywhere near that girl." Voight said.
"You can't stop me."
"Wanna bet? You know who I am? I'm Hank Voight." Voight said calmly.
For the first time Riley's father seem shaken, but only for a moment. "I'm her father."
"You're scum." Voight said.
Chief Albright looked him, Antonio, and Erin, hard in the eyes.
"I'll be back.." He snarled, and left.
It was the wee hours of the morning of the next day when a doctor came into the waiting room. Voight nudged Erin and Antonio, who were both half asleep.
The doctor looked at all three of them before speaking. "Riley's surgery was a successfully one. She's been moved to the ICU and although she's out of critical condition... I have to say.. she's not even close to being out of the woods yet."
"What are her chances?" Antonio asked.
"Of a full recovery... 65%. I'm sorry." The doctor said.
"Oh my God.." Erin breathed.
"Her injuries were very server.. Her right leg was badly dislocated and out of place, not to mention broken in multiple places... She has three broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a badly fractured wrist, internal bleeding, swelling in the brain..."
Erin had to sit down.. Voight and Antonio were rattled as well.
"She almost lost the rest of her vision in her one eye, but we managed to save it. She's in a medically induced coma... She's breathing on her own, with the aid of a breathing mask, and as I said she's stable. I'm sorry I don't bring better news." The doctor finished.
"Thank you." Voight said.
"Yes, thank you." Antonio agreed.
"Can I see her?" Erin said.
The doctor thought for a moment before nodding and gestured for Erin to follow her.
She turn to Voight and Dawson as she left, who told her to go ahead.
"Antonio, get home to your family." Voight said.
Antonio nodded, "Keep me updated."
Voight nodded in return before going off on a little mission of his own.
Erin enter the room to see Riley, just as the doctor had described. She looked extra small. She was in a pitiful state..
Erin slowly came to stand by her bedside. She gently took Riley's hand as she suppressed her own tears. Riley's hand was cold and motionless.
"I'm so sorry Riley... I'm so sorry.."
Voight turned around after having spoken to the woman at the front desk to see Chief Albright walking in the front door with two of his detectives beside him.
"I'm here to see my daughter, you're not stoping me this time." He said, walking past him.
"No, I think I'm gonna let her have a turn." Voight said.
Just then a lady from child services appeared. "I'm sorry sir but we can't allow you to see your daughter, until we've investigated."
"You've got to be kidding me! You won't find anything, just like last time. I am not abusing my daughter! I was out, she was home alone, she's 15 thats not illegal, someone broke into my house! These two detectives can vouch for me." He finished, gesturing to his men.
"We'll be asking a lot of people a lot of questions sir. Now.. I'm very sorry, but I must ask you to leave."
"This is unbelievable.. My daughter needs me in her finale moments!" Mr. Albright spat.
"She's not dead yet." Voight said.
"And you will never lay another hand or fist upon her again." Erin's voice came as came she came into the room. "You'll have to go through me.."
"And me.." Came a voice. It was Severide. He came into the room and stood by Erin's side.
"And me." Said Shay whom also appeared and took her place also at Erin and Kelly's side.
"And me." Half of firehouse 51 said falling in protective ranks at their friends sides.
"And me." Voight said.
Chief Albright was red in the face with anger. "You haven't seen the last of me." He hissed before shouting a command at his men and leaving the hospital.
Voight turned to the lady from DCFS telling her to make note of the language the man was using and how not once did he say Riley's name, only referring to her as HIS or MY daughter. Possessive language. The way you speak about property.. not a child.
Shay led the group down the hall to stand vigil outside of Riley's room. To pray for her and protect her.
Meanwhile, Erin and Kelly had not moved from their place in the hall.
"He'll never hurt her again.." Erin spoke her promise out loud. Severide nodded and put his arm around her.
